^ An average i7 should be mining in the region of 200h/s, depending on your actual cpu clock, which precise miner, how many threads you're allowing it, etc.
I don't know if there's a hardware comparison table though. Good luck!

962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCN] Cryptonite | 1st mini-blockchain implementation | M7 PoW on: July 28, 2014, 01:21:23 AM
(crossposting from the pre-ann thread)

Out of curiosity for the mini blockchain implementation, I'm running this on a single i7.
Notes of interest: Blocks go straight to available, did not see any 'pending' (or immature) state time at all. Perhaps this will require a fix/relaunch/jump-off-a-bridge-type, something off, or it's just me?
Minor typo: The dialog that appears at bottom-right corner when you find a block (Win-x64), is titled: Bitcoin - Incoming transaction. Would be lovely to have incoming transactions of ~243 bitcoins to my wallet  Grin

Happy mining!

Just got back, so here's the transaction id for the donation I had pledged earlier:

Code:
<cd29392ee581559bc3473b635e65b649b99276f0e18eab41449cad03c4c881a6>

I bumped my donation to be 2% of my holdings, so that's a whopping 2 moneritos sent.
How's that for generosity?  Wink
(note, the donation bump was not driven by generosity, in reality, I just rather be holding goxcoins!)

Keep it up gents! In the next couple of days I'll try to add some more useful stuff to the community FAQ.

^ Not True! I so totally "lost" 250 Moneritos that I had should have been paid for a pizza! Still not sure what happened, but I'm strongly suspecting that there's a pizza robber in the vicinity. Pizza lovers beware!
(sarcasm alert, please disregard if so inclined)

Someone had questioned earlier on about a Portuguese crypto community: There's at least two of us, haha!  Wink

Nice! Maybe we should take advantage of this BES nigthmare to open some eyes around here, right? Wink

Tell me about it... I've been talking about this precise type of banking bullshit to friends and family. What's interesting, is that all the people I talk to about crypto currencies today, is a lot more receptive than they were a year ago. It's not a damn coincidence, that's for sure.

Unlikely that these are all Bytecoin chills. Note that there are plenty of other shitcoins attempting to deliver privacy features (and failing badly). It's all good that they keep bumping this thread, but I for one, would be happier if they would just move on. Getting hard to keep up with this thread as it is...

967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner & ccMiner CUDA based mining applications [Windows/Linux/MacOSX] on: July 18, 2014, 05:03:42 PM
IIRC I had a similar problem, though I was just using 4 GPUs, and in my case, the problem was that certain PCIe slots share bandwidth, and do not initialize correctly with multiple GPUs installed (as they exceed the total bandwidth available to the shared slots). The solution for me, was to switch certain PCIe slots to work in PCIe 2.0 mode in the motherboard BIOS/EFI. This had no negative impact to mining performance.

Good Luck!

Hi, I have a question. I downloaded the wallet zip file. I started up simplewallet and created a wallet.bin file. If I mine to this address can I later put a transaction of my mined coins to an exchange without synchronizing with the network? I don't have much spare disk space to download the entire blockchain (not to mention it's time consuming).

Currently no. To do this, you need Electrum-like app for Monero, storing blockchain on a remote server, *not owned* by you. As I know, there is no such an app for Monero.

Nevertheless, you can mine to Monero address you've just created without downloading blockchain. But exchanges do not typically allow you to mine directly onto their deposit addresses.

Some pool allow you to withdraw with a payment ID (so you can transfer from pool to exchange). That would do exactly what he wants no?

Brief response as I'm on the run here:
This is answered in the FAQ, but the FAQ actually needs an update: both Minergate and Dwarfpool will allow you to do this (mine straight to an exchange address). Though I can only say good things about Dwarfpool's performance from my own experience, proceed with caution.

PS: An electrum-like app is certainly in people's minds - and though it will likely be a while - it would be really nice to have it linking with 'monujo.com'  Wink

969  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: --* Monero Community Hall of Fame *-- on: July 17, 2014, 07:31:28 PM
I'm in India for another week or so, and while I do have remote access to my wallet, I prefer not to mess with it via hotel internet access... I'll be sending a largely rounded-up 1% of my Monero stash - hold your breath - an astounding 1 XMR!  Grin
In all seriousness, I have been mining and buying for the better part of the last 4 weeks, but the damn little coins are just hard to come by!  Wink

Not all is bad news though, contributions can take many forms, and I'll continue working on the FAQ and will add further materials to help the newcomers as soon as I've returned home. Big cheers to all the donors here, both big & small - this community rocks!

Q: Can I mine directly to my exchange address, or do I need to setup a local wallet?
A: Mining to exchange addresses is not possible at this time, as the pool will not attribute a PaymentID to your mining proceeds, resulting in the exchange not being able to find out who said proceeds belong to. Mining to an exchange address will almost certainly cause your funds to be lost.

Note: There is one exception, as one pool (MinerGate) has advertised that they have implemented PaymentIDs in mining withdrawals. This has not been independently verified yet (to the best of my knowledge), and the pool in question is 'closed source', thus generally not recommended.

[2] featured in the op
Q: What on earth are these 'PaymentIDs' I keep hearing about?
A: The way that Monero works today, causes the exchanges to have a single address to where all customer Moneros get deposited. Given the intrinsic privacy features built into Monero, the exchange is unable to verify the source of any incoming transaction. Enter 'PaymentIDs'. Each exchange user get's a unique PaymentID assigned, so that by tracking PaymentIDs on incoming transactions, the exchanges can identify the user account that is to be credited.

Q: Do I have to run a full node to keep a personal/offline wallet?
A: Yes. Note that at the present state of development, running a full node & using the wallet is not a particularly friendly venture, so it is wise to really go through the setup instructions available and seek help if feeling overwhelmed by the process. Experienced/Advanced users will have no trouble setting up a node & wallet in a few minutes (+ the download time for a recent blockchain).

[4] featured in the op
Q: Can I have multiple Monero addresses in my local node?
A: Short version - yes. Long version - Each wallet currently holds a single address. To have multiple addresses, you'll be creating and executing multiple wallets (one per address). Note: Multiple wallets cannot be running concurrently on a given system. Non-experienced users are strongly advised to not attempt running multiple wallets.

Q: Monero blockchain is filling up my hard drive / What's up with all the bloat?
A: The privacy features in Monero do come at a certain cost of an increased blockchain size. That said, the codebase is very much alpha stage at the moment, and currently, there is absolutely no compression of the blockchain data. This is one of the main priorities for the dev team - to implement a robust & scalable database platform. The team is very active on this, but it is pointless to ask/spam 'are we there yet?' on the forums or IRC, since the task is massive and will take whatever is the necessary amount of time to be done right(tm). When this is complete, bells and whistles will be heard on the Interwebs.

Q: Why is Monero not user friendly like most other cryptocurrencies? Why is there no official GUI wallet?
A: Monero is not a Bitcoin clone, and so it's code is entirely new (originally derived from Cryptonote). Similarly to the early Bitcoin days, a lot of pieces have just not been built yet - the puzzle is largely incomplete. There's good and bad that comes with this fact, amongst other things: there is certainly some additional risk as the code is a lot more experimental than that of Bitcoin, while on the other hand, there is also a lot of potential, as Monero is just in it's infancy. A GUI Wallet is certainly an important part of this puzzle, and a bounty is in progress for someone to build one to be adopted soon (possibly more than one).
The GUI bounty thread is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589561.0

(I'll keep editing this post as I gather more stuff, and will be cleaning up if the OP consolidates any information I've posted)
I'm on a work trip and will have little availability over the next couple of weeks, so it might be a while before I can add further contributions.

^ Usability & Hype?
There's plenty that needs to improve with the Monero infrastructure before it can be considered accessible to the masses. I'm not saying DRK offers a meaningful privacy platform, but just why "the crowds" have not migrated to Monero in large numbers yet. Let's really fix 'usability', and then start looking for opportunities for 'utility'. Everything else falls into place from there!
Cheers,

hi all. sorry for my english Grin
I am mining on moneropool.com. During the day, pool has sent me in the wallet 1 XMR, but the purse they still did not come.

Check that your bitmonerod is fully sync'ed, and hit 'refresh' on the wallet. If the transaction has gone through, it should come up after a wallet refresh (which is currently a manual process if you tend to keep the wallet open).

Cheers,

Apologies for the slight off-topic:
If anyone has plans to develop an online wallet for Monero sometime in the future, please PM me if you'd like to have the very meaningful 'monujo.com' domain. I will carry on with plans of my own if there are no takers, but knowing what little time I have available, I'd be happy to let it go towards deserving hands. This is not a straight up market offer - if the Monero team expresses that they want the domain for an 'official' platform, it's theirs for the prize of a pizza.

(Pizza is currently valued at exactly 250 XMR. Oh yeah fluffy, the pizza man is back to haunt you!)
Cheers,

You need to look at this other thread instead:

I'm hopeful that the senior members here would kindly deliver one of their interesting analysis, addressing the potential threat from XC. I'm not knowledgeable enough on the privacy implementations to discern an advantage here or there. The major downside with XC, for me, is that a) I don't hold any, and b) it's already turned PoS only.

Guys it was a simple question of where the fuck can u get a gpu miner
(...)
if somebody can link a good ver etc that would be nice....lolz

Plenty of links in the OP. What qualifies as a 'good version' is largely subjective, so I'd advise you to use your best judgement.
The OP is usually a good starting point for all things relating to a currency that you're not yet familiar with... The OP also has links to the missives that the team has posted so far, and I'd say that those are an absolute "must read" for anyone getting started with Monero.

Anyone know how to solomine monero? I can't seem to set username/password for the wallet.

With ccminer, you'll need to setup a private pool for solo mining monero.
Unless you have some pretty massive hashrate, you're really much better off just joining one of the small'ish pools.
One that I have found to have good performance and generally reliable is http://monero.crypto-pool.fr/

EDIT: This reminder is never enough I suppose: Do not mine monero to an exchange address, or you might as well say bye bye to your mining proceeds!
Cheers,

If you're just looking to exchange for BTC right away, I suppose JPC might be worthwhile, and certainly there will be others (I'm not really following all the profit opportunities). It's one of those times where it might make more sense to just try your chances at mining something that is not profitable right now, but that you believe that will go up in value after some time holding.

(Unless you are a certain Christian, but then again, you're probably still too busy counting coins!!!)
@Christian: A while back, you were making too much profit, so could not share your optimized cryptonight code. Then recently, you were struggling to make a profit as diff has gone up and the price on exchanges has not increased to match. How's your sharing mood now?  Grin

Have a great weekend all!

<MoneroBot> With 260 H/s you should get 0.34 XMR per Day
Maybe 20% more, as the BOT is pessimistic and accounts for 20% orphans, which is not accurate with the recent pool performance.

@tsiv: Me owes you a pizza! Let's exchange PMs on this.

Cheers,
