betting on random numbers is also easy to realize in a fair and transparent way. since the house still wins 2% per bet, its also still profitable. you only have to limit the bet size and keep the bank stocked to compensate for variance. usually its more profitable to do it that way, because long-term people only play where winning is at least possible, though not likely.

I suppose this is not valid anymore?

i am still looking to buy bitcoins.

black-scholes, futures, options, seriously?

both your contracts and just buying bitcoins immediately dont involve any options. you pay, you get something. with your contracts you mostly get it later, but its still not an option.
in my opinion, professional mining isnt viable because so many people just use their normal pcs. no extra investments, no extra maintenance, no extra profit margin. nobody can really compete with that, especially since both the professional and the amateur approach rely on the same hardware, common gpus.
for big investors, it might be different. its easier to buy one of your contracts than buying small scraps of bitcoins on the open market or setting up a big mining operation without much professional knowledge about it. but for the average guy its cheapier to just equip his pc with an expensive graphics card and let it run 24/7.

I have several hundred BTC that, assuming we can agree on a price, I am willing to sell for Euros, and my wife has a Euro account to which the money could be sent.

Given this, how should this be done? I do not know that I can trust you to send the money - you do not know that you can trust me to send the BTC.

Any suggestions?

i can offer you 0.68€. i will pay up front, so they is absolutely no risk for you, though i would like to do several smaller transactions to minimize my risk, if thats ok for you.
987  Economy / Marketplace / buying up to 1000btc via bank transfer (EUR prefered) [CLOSED] on: February 23, 2011, 01:00:00 PM
hello,

i want to buy up to 1000btc. i planned to do this on mtgox.com, but right now this doesnt seem to be a very safe choice and the fees add up, too. so i choose to do this directly.

you can make offers here, pm me or ask for my jabber account.
since i will use bank transfer from an EUR account to pay, offers in EUR are prefered.
also, as long as dont have to pay fees for currency conversion, we can split the deal into smaller chunks.
the whole 1000btc or similar amounts up front in just one transaction is possible only if i deem you to be very trustworthy.

i am in no hurry, so i will wait at least a day or two for offers to come in and evaluate them.

very easy way to solve your problem with the modulo is to use it from both sides. you take
hash value mod participants
when hash value/participants  is even and
participants - hash value mod participants
when hash value/participants is not even

btw the advantage of having a lower number should be be very small anyway. just use it as an incentive for people to register early  Grin
make your fee 5% and let partipants vote the charity and i am in.

You have your trust issues backwad methinks.

Why would a bitcoin seller trust you and your reversible MoneyBookers?

hm, maybe because that hypothetical bitcoin seller didnt think of that before you mentioned it  Angry Wink

anyway, since i wont risk my mb account, i have to look for an alternative anyway. probably bank transfer to mtgox.

Just a little warning, moneybookers TOS doesn't allow exchanges. Many lost their account this way, and it's usually a lifetime ban... So if the moneybooker account is important to you, or unless you exchange with a really good friend, I advice against it.

thanks, i didnt know that.
