Sidechain depends on Bitcoin's transaction fees, security and confirmation latency.

Also, sidechain has its own transaction fees, security and confirmation latency.

It means that sidechain has more room to fail, less secure, cost more and aggregated confirmation latency.

It can be a nice feature. But it can not solve Bitcoin's root issues.

What is "mini-chain"? I saw it under "Recently Completed".

the upcoming release of zerocash is good news to all anonymous coins because it will spark a debate about the fungibility of bitcoin. i believe there are many people who have heard about zerocoin early on who will investigate and start thinking about this issue.

I think that XMR needs media attention before zerocash releases its first version. Journalists who care about financial privacy and zerocash should be kept informed about XMR as an (better and more practical) alternative to "experimental" zerocash.

Should it be a new task?

Have anyone tested Monero 0.9 to see if it is system crash safe?

Bitcoin Core wallet is a nightmare because its database is quite fragile. If I closes the wallet suddenly, OS stops unexpectedly, I need to spend 3-4 days to reindex the database and re-sync block chain from the beginning

jesus really?

i've beaten the hell outta 0.9. For instance, the development branch (which goes above and beyond 0.9, but uses 0.9 as its base) for a while couldn't be exited because the 0mq wasn't all wired up properly. So how do you stop the program?

Indeed, that issue happened 5-6 times with Bitcoin Core wallet v0.11: Windows crashed, installed new program that required Windows restart that closed the wallet forcefully, blockchain stored in an external hard disk that was dismounted in an unexpected way (USB issue), MacOS restart, Mac OS closed forcefully because of draining laptop battery ...

After that I was notified that Bitcoin blockchain was corrupted and required me to wait for it to be re-indexed. It was quite a time consuming task that could take several days. Sometimes I lost my patient and re-synced blockchain from the beginning. It is faster.

I have no such issues with Monero 0.9 yet.

Pardon the ignorance, what exactly is the .9 version release as compared to the others?

3 biggest changes:

1. You don't need 6 GB RAM and more to run bitmonerod
2. You don't need to wait for 5-6 minutes to run bitmonerod or see it exit
3. Monero's database is portable. Feel free to copy it from Linux to Windows or vice versa

Monero's usability and robustness in 0.9 release has vastly improved. I believe that end user will like this release

XMR has no volume now  Cheesy

Investor may think XMR is not really cheap. 0.011 - 0.012 can be right price.

Another update:

What's gone in since then ?

New git updates since last time:

- blockchain_export can now create files compatible with NoodleDoodle's fast sync code
- speedup for the one-time database rescan to initialize hard fork into
- database dump utility, intended to detect differences between the several blockchain formats
- a new status command in the daemon, giving more user oriented information
- and random other fixes for DB potential issues, some RPC commands not working properly

Any update from core software development is good news. Thanks

I am not worried about inflation rate at the moment. I am concerning about user adoption rate over time. Artificial high exchange rate for bitcoin + low user base is the easiest way to kill a cryptocurrency
150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 29, 2015, 09:11:16 PM
What's the current inflation rate of Monero? When does it drop below 4%?

(8.2 * 60 * 24 * 365/18400000) * 100 = 23.4 % (per year) and declining

It seems that people cry for a user friendly GUI wallet. Let 0.9 version be out first. Then I may spend time creating a new one which is based on NodeJS or Python

You could monitor some Monero weighted average price stats here: http://vnno2t46wi42jgm7jdyf75obc2zbm3jizel6gvawaaj4mzmkgvoa.b32.i2p.xyz/. It should be also available at moneroprice.i2p.xyz soon. All time weighted average price of Monero is 0.00256603 BTC.

Care to publish your data and formula?

Shen is a student if I read Monero's FAQ correctly. So I think that he can spend more time to implement RingCT faster. I hope that we can fund his development when he is ready. I expect that it would be 4-6 months timeframe

Monero 0.9beta Windows 7, RAM 6 GB, free disk: 3 GB/90GB, free CPU:70%, free memory: 1.5GB

> Prepare blocks took: 5342ms

What really happened at "Prepare blocks"? Any idea why it was so slow
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 24, 2015, 02:54:19 AM
I am tired of price speculation now. It is too early to expect a stable rise as a result of a wider user adoption. We miss a lot of things to make Monero a usable currency.

+ A well-funded development team although I like decentralized teams more
+ An usable layman-friendly desktop wallet
+ A BitPay-like payment processor
+ Set of libraries that could help expand Monero ecosystem like CoPay in Bitcoin world.

I support the ideas of platform-first. 0.9 release can be a big milestone. Then please think about which features should be included into 1.0 release and how we can fund developers to have those features implemented. Short iteration is a good thing.

New update on RingCT

Compact CT is the way to go. I think that Compact CT will significantly improve Monero's image and push up investor adoption. Zerocash (if implemented) has no advantage after that

Merchant shouldn't know how rich I am. What she should know is if I have enough fund to transact with her.
