101  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining that profitable? on: December 28, 2014, 08:03:47 PM
I will expect the customs and related fees will kill you off.

I would've advised you to buy Bitcoins instead, but the same problem remains - getting your money out and into the exchanges. I guess you can try localbitcoins if such a thing indeed exists in Iran.
102  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: which bitcoin trading platform is reliable and not in US on: December 28, 2014, 05:22:45 PM
btc-e

Run by a shady bunch, with banking, servers and registration in different countries, and almost always up. During the gox days when DDoS was a preferred method of crashing the prices, Btc-e stayed up always (well, almost always - it went down once).

Avoid the chat using the link btc-e.com/disableChat
103  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What Hardware to purchase or not? on: December 28, 2014, 02:18:26 PM
The S5's look quite good and fun!

How exactly is it 'fun'? How can a specific miner be more fun than another?

if you're gonna buy a mining rig , dont expect you'll earn money from it , just have it as a fun thing and maybe , maybe you'll earn some sweet btc

It is possible to ROI with cheap electricity and a little luck.

Unless the OP is moving out of UK, say goodbye to cheap electricity.
104  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Zen Hashlet PayCoin unofficial uncensored discussion. ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :-) on: December 27, 2014, 11:24:19 PM
Well, I think that people are smarter now. Sure, in a rally there are huge buys, but I bet most are aware of the risks and are only buying to sell it higher, and not because they are sold on the grand vision of Josh and co.

Partly true , it all comes down to how he will manage his propaganda campaign going forward and the fact that he can extend this charade out longer because many have locked their coins into a 3 to 6 month contract where they can't sell them. This is the difference between paycoin2 and other PoS pump and dumps.

It could all explode in the next 2 weeks or be extended over 6 months depending upon how many hashstakers were bought and the propaganda.

Well, here's to hoping it crumbles within the next 2 weeks, then.

553 - ouch! I thought it was going to be THE coin for our lives Roll Eyes

So I guess this is done? Or is this Josh still trying for his $20 dream?

Unfortunately, this is not over by a longshot. While Josh and GAw have proven to be technically incompetent they are quite experienced bullshit artists and marketers. They will continue this charade for as long as possible squeezing every last drop out of their clients while they dump their coins in exchange for BTC.

Well, I think that people are smarter now. Sure, in a rally there are huge buys, but I bet most are aware of the risks and are only buying to sell it higher, and not because they are sold on the grand vision of Josh and co.
106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I doubt we'll ever go mainstream on: December 27, 2014, 11:05:34 PM
Bitcoin itself may not go mainstream, but the blockchain idea definitely will. This is going to be a revolution, and 10 years from now you will be remembering these early days and realize you never expected to work out this way.

I imagine all those using Netscape had no idea what it would be like when Android phones would arrive.
107  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next Halving in 2016 Mining consequences ? on: December 27, 2014, 11:02:43 PM
There will be no noticeable difference immediately after, as it will already have been priced in.

It will ease up the sell pressure so that might help the prices. But 2016 is a long time off and much bigger factors in play would have acted to change the price in an unpredictable manner by then.
108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin as wire transfer alternative from CNY to EUR on: December 27, 2014, 08:51:17 PM
I am not sure how much profitable it will be with fees on both ends. In addition, you have to be careful that you are not breaking and foreign exchange rules.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Give me your best sales pitch why I should buy your PoS coin. on: December 27, 2014, 08:41:57 PM
Not really a pitch, but I will say take a look at Bitshares.

Why? Bitshares also has a block reward, but unlike a PoW coin, this block reward doesn't go to miners. A small portion goes to the delegates who produce blocks, and the rest is utilised to fund development of Bitshares itself. At current prices, thats almost $3m a year funding for development.

In short, with an inflation rate less than a PoW, it raises funds for itself to improve and innovate.
110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blocknet, Etherium or Maidsafe - which is the best? on: December 27, 2014, 08:36:46 PM
Blocknet - no idea.

Ethereum - smart contracts are promising, but they are still confused whether to go mining or some form of PoS.

Maidsafe - doing good work, thouh IMO the economics for the holder may not be the best.

Maidsafe and Ethereum are unrelated and are not competitors. While you're at it, check out Bitshares, which has brought Market Pegged Assets (thus solving the volatility problem in cryptos) among others.
111  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Zen Hashlet PayCoin unofficial uncensored discussion. ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :-) on: December 27, 2014, 08:28:23 PM
Wow, the innovation is impressive. Look who's sitting pretty at #553 just below KarpelesCoin and right above CLAMS.

I will take an Aston Martin DB9, thank you very much Cheesy
113  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you had a time machine... on: December 27, 2014, 08:20:48 PM
I would go back to 2008 and start putting any CPU I could get on mining Bitcoin.

I would also have taken different courses, and would have studied computer science and economics. We are on the brink of a crisis and I believe that cryptos can provide the solution, and I feel severely lacking in the skills to contribute. Its also the reason why I got sold on Daniel Larimer's vision and got involved in Bitshares.
114  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What Hardware to purchase or not? on: December 27, 2014, 08:16:53 PM
Hello,

I have a little money that was given to me through inheritance (About £7500, $11,700)  and I am thinking of investing it in Bitcoin, I am wondering whether to buy bitcoin direct or buy some hardware and mine it myself, I used to mine with GPU back in the day and then moved to altcoins and I loved it, The whole feeling of just seeing your hardware working.

But I am wondering what is best. Especially with electricy costs in the UK and such.

I would appreciate any advice?

Thanks

JohnLight95

Buying Bitcoins is the way to go. TA charters are saying that prices may go down even more so its a great opportunity now.
If I were you I would also look around and look at the 2.0 cryptos too.
115  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will the difficulty go down again ? on: December 27, 2014, 08:13:29 PM
According to https://alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator...

Next difficulty retarget occurs at block 334655.0 (eta 3.2 days): 39547782382.4 / -1.1% [est.]

What is your opinion ?

The hashrate will continue to decline leading to a drop in difficulty.

Unless the community wakes up and starts to give at least 50% of its effort in integrating Bitcoin into payroll systems, we're going to see Bitcoin slowly fade away into the night. The only way to equalize the downward price pressure caused by the growth of BTC accepting merchants, is to pay people in Bitcoin.

No way. Even if the price continues to drop, newer hardware with higher efficiency is going to come on the market and increase the difficulty. I think Q1 2015 was slated to be the time for the release of the next gen ASICs.
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitShares News + dicussion [Short and sweet regular updates] on: December 27, 2014, 08:10:01 PM

It was an informative blog, and I was quite excited about Bitshares having a better structure in place fro smart contracts as compared to Ethereum. The discussion is continued at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=905616.0
117  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Smart Contracts and Transaction Malleability on: December 27, 2014, 08:07:57 PM
There is no reason to implement them itself in Bitcoin. Its better to build something on top and use it, like Counterparty which absorbs any risks and potential protocol breaking bugs.
118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitShares News + dicussion [Short and sweet regular updates] on: December 26, 2014, 10:14:12 PM
Bytemaster makes a case for funding development through dilution/delegate fee instead of pre-sales in his latest blog post.

Bitshares initially raised funding through donations through a company and had to tackle a lot of topics ranging from legal to tax issues. The funding method now which have been implemented, delegate pay, is an elegant way to do it.
119  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis never ends on: December 26, 2014, 06:53:40 PM
where is the master

Frantically getting rid of his Rubles.

So majority feels its gonna go south?
120  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Introducing Bitshares Object Graph on: December 26, 2014, 06:27:47 PM
BitShares Graph Database

We are going to take the basic idea of a graph database and apply some relatively simple constraints. Every node (vertex/object) in the graph is managed by two multi-sig permissions, one for updating and one for transferring. Every edge in the graph is owned by its source node.

Edges are objects themselves. This means that you can construct an edge from a node to an edge or from an edge to an edge. On every object users can store arbitrary data as a JSON object.

What this means is that the BitShares network becomes a general purpose graph database where the validation rules are simple. Interpretation of the database is entirely dependent upon client side applications. This provides great flexibility and allows the block chain to be kept simple. Some examples of things that we can implement with the Object Graph:

  • Forum of linked Posts
  • Web of Trust
  • Facebook
  • Identity Management
  • Organization Membership
  • Voting
  • Domain Names

While all of those things are interesting, they are only scratching the surface of what people will come up with. In future posts I will explore some specific applications of the Object Graph. Here is a visual example from a traditional application:

Accounts, Assets, Markets are First Class Objects

Every single item in the BitShares database will have a valid object ID and can be accessed via the graph API. This means that your user accounts and assets can become nodes in the wider graph and thus be the foundation of a web of trust.

Foundation for Scripting

The Object Graph will become the foundation for the future BitShares scripting environment. Every scripting language has a data model and this data model has a dramatic impact on the efficiency of scripting.

Ethereum has adopted a very simplistic database, a key-value store. A key-value store is a fundamental building block of all databases and is turing complete. By adopting a higher level data representation we can greatly accelerate many operations that would be expensive using a key-value store. It is like the difference between programing in assembly vs a higher level language like Java Script. We can optimize the graph database that the scripting environment runs on in ways that you would be unable to optimize a key-value store directly. In other words, Ethereum will force developers to build a graph database within their scripting environment on top of their key-value primitve. This will mean the graph database will be interpreted rather than fully optimized and compiled.

By building scripting environment on top of an object graph we can use better optimized data structures for performing lookups and reduce the number of operations that must be performed by the scripting environment itself. It becomes easier for developers to think about data and its relations rather than having to think about low-level primitives.

Status

The bitshares library already supports most of the operations necessary to create objects and link edges between them. We will be testing these features as part of DevShares in the weeks ahead before merging them into the BitShares network. If you have interesting ideas or applications for the BitShares Object Graph, please share them on our forum.
