I just got a text message from UPS about import duties. I am in Texas, USA.

The are charging me 367.87 !!!!

This is the breakdown:

IMPORT CHARGES
NOTE: the total value used for calculation of all Duty-based fees is 0.00.
Government Charges: 356.87
Brokerage Charges: 11.00
Freight Charges: 0.00

356.87 / 1400 (2 Z9 minis at $600 each + shipping fees)  =   about 25%

Looks like US folks are getting hit with the new Trump tariffs on Chinese goods.

Ugh. Is anyone facing the same issue?

Same in NJ.

That's fucked.  Does it say anything on the UPS tracking page?  UPS doesn't have my info to text me about it but the tracking says I should receive mine today.  The batch 1 miner had something like a $60 fee but it mentioned a fee being due on the UPS tracking page, although not the amount.  This one does not mention a fee on the tracking page so I am hoping I dodged it.

Did you order one or multiple? Maybe 1 is below the threshold where the customs fee is applied?

I ordered just one.

43  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain now requiring KYC documentation to buy hardware on: August 23, 2018, 11:30:49 PM
Hmm, I have no idea why do they need it. Ebay and amazon doesn't ask for any type of documents so why the hell does Bitmain need them?

Well, bye bitmain. I was going to try to buy from you, now I'll switch to other companies...
Can you tell me which companies are you going to buy from? I am looking for any company which sells bitmain products but can't trust any of them. The reason of this is Bitmain's bad support and shipping. Another option I can see is Baikal Miner. As far as I know they don't ask for KYC as for now.

I haven't used them but there are resellers like blokforge.
44  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitmain now requiring KYC documentation to buy hardware on: August 23, 2018, 06:54:23 PM
Anyone know the reasoning behind this?  Buying and selling hardware is hardly the same as what an exchange does.  I'm leery about giving them a copy of my passport.
45  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW / Josh Garza discussion Paycoin XPY xpy.io ION ionomy. ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :) on: August 23, 2018, 06:42:25 PM
This shit is too boring. I'm tired of waiting all these years for Garza to go to jail so...

I hereby appoint myself the prosecutor, judge, and executioner in the court of intertubes law

and will sentence Homero Whatshistname Garza for grave crimes of being an epic douche canoe. Anyone having any proof of such please come forward and post it here (let's try to keep it SFW though and no kids etc). Anyone having any proof to the contrary please post as well so that I could laugh at it and ignore it.

Your Honor I have some information I would like to share with the intertubes court of law.  This is a PM I sent rather than received.  A long, long time ago, in a thread not so very far from here I posted a link to an email account on google which was apparently owned by one, Homero Joshua Douchbagolia Garza and had quite idiotically been left completely public.  Someone PM'd me about how I had come by the link to that email account and this was my response to that concerned netizen.

Quote from: not.you
I contemplated talking about it in the thread actually just because it is yet another example of what a goof Josh is but I opted not to.  For now I would appreciate it if you didn't share this with anyone.  Not that it is a big secret but I think I want to keep it from being posted out in the open anyway.

I don't know how well you have been following that GAW thread, it moves pretty fast.  But the back story is that GAWNeedsToBeStopped had posted a number of emails between Josh and this Rishab guy and then internal emails about Rishab that showed that Josh was more or less just interested in getting as much money out of him as he could and didn't really give a shit about him.  Those email had been out for a while when coinbrief wrote a story about it.  So that story had kicked up some talk on hashtalk.  So PCFan posted to hashtalk that he had proof that those first leaked emails were fake.  The proof he eventually posted was a purported email from Rishab to Josh saying that he (Rishab) did not know what the previous emails were about and that he had not purchased any primes and whatever the hell else from Josh and was just a normal customer with a few paycoins.

So the pastebin version of that email from Rishab to Josh which PCFan linked (and apparently later removed) had a weird little detail buried in there among all of the headers and whatnot.  There was a thing near the bottom that said something like "to unsubscribe from this list send an email to josh+unsubscribe@geniusesatwork.com".  So for the hell of it I tried sending an email to josh+subscribe@geniusesatwork.com and lo and behold it sent me an auto-response with a link to join the group, which of course I did.  But I discovered very quickly that I didn't actually have to join at all, it was already set to public.  When I first started browsing it I didn't realize it was Josh's emails.  I really thought it was some kind of google group for special customers or something.  I hadn't even looked at it very much before I posted the link to the thread here.  I wish now I had actually kept it a secret and archived all of it.

However, GAWNeedsToBeStopped very quickly offered up 4 more google group links with better info so it is clear to me that whoever that is already knew about this group and the others.  In fact that may be where he got the original Rishab emails he had leaked.  The original one I posted was https://groups.google.com/a/geniusesatwork.com/d/forum/josh which was apparently deleted while everyone was browsing it a few hours later but has since been recreated as it exists now but is restricted as to who has access.

Your Honor I would like this submitted as further evidence of the extreme stupidity of the defendant and why he should be kept away from sharp objects, electrical outlets, and other people's money since he clearly has no idea how to adult like a person with an IQ above 47.

47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Baikal Giant-B on: July 24, 2018, 02:55:29 PM
Is Pascal a good coin for mining now ? Huh
I found a nice link for all Baikal Giant B User - best comparsion for now i guess:
https://www.asicminervalue.com/miners/baikal/bk-b

How accurate would you say those estimates are on that site?  This miner doesn't seem very profitable based on that.
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Baikal Giant X10 on: July 23, 2018, 01:41:13 AM
Yeah I have 10 of them. You can try reinstalling the sd card image and if that doesn't work you need to buy a new controller.

I broke down and bought a $10 3-speed fan from Walmart. I unplugged and removed the black fan from the Baikal X10, I put the Walmart fan in front of it.

do it efficient reduce the temperature compare with previously?

No, it doesn't reduce the temperature more efficiently. The miner is at my office, and I need a way to reduce the noise. If I could control the fan speed with the built-in fan, I would keep it, for sure. I am also mining Skein, which uses the least amount of watts, so as to produce the least amount of heat.

you can control the fan speed with this setting at sgminer options: baikal-fan (sgminer options) and 40 (value). theh it will be running at 40%. it is working for me since some months without problems.

That's problem. It's not accepting any values. If there is a way to control the fan speed from the terminal, then I could do that, I just don't know the command. Does anybody know the exact command to type in the terminal?

So are you saying you tried this and it didn't work?
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Win update .... on: July 20, 2018, 06:19:54 PM
...Or you could just set your windows update service to disabled but I don't know why you would want to do either of those things.  There are ways to simply prevent the reboots from the auto-updates.  That seems a better solution. Sometimes you actually want to update.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Baikal Giant B cannot be accessed to web UI on: July 20, 2018, 05:00:56 PM
Hi. Can some one please help. I have been using my Baikal  X10 for 4 month, some how the web turn White and the Baikal  X10 are not mining. SO i Flash the SSD using Img from the web. after replug i can no longer find my Baikal  X10 on network ant more. i did restart my router many time.  at the Back of the Baikal  X10 seems to be working ( blue LED is ON)

Pon

So I decided to update my Giant X10 to get the new algos added. The miner was working perfect, except missing the additional 2 new algos. When I fired it back up, both ethernet lights stay solid yellow and green, and there is one blue light flashing on one blade, and one green flashing on another. I am unable to find an ip address for it. I used PI Zero GX10 V1.2. I have powered it on and off several times, and checked all the pins to the pi controller are seated perfectly. When I used windisk imager , it said successful. Any ideas? Please help, this really sucks Sad

Vegas

Those image files are so huge, you might try downloading it again in case it was corrupted. I downloaded it from googledrive myself but I have never tried to use it.  You could also try downloading it from the baidu link in case the googledrive image itself is what's messed up.  And if it all still won't work you can always try the v1.1 image and see if you can at least get it back up and running on the old algos.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: July 19, 2018, 11:02:54 PM
If someone has information or a unit from the OP I don't know why they wouldn't be willing to help run down the details.  Unless of course everyone came at them like a mob which put them on the defensive.  Some politeness and courtesy goes a long way.  Think about how you would feel if you happened to be this lone witness with a unit and everyone has their pitch forks and torches....

Oh man, if that happened to me I'd post a shit ton of photos showing the box, the address label, details, hell I'd even DNA swab the box.

If I found out I was used as a bait for a scam, I'd be very interested in finding the person who did it.
Exactly. Any normal person would want to help, unless they are in on the scam.

Exactly.  Plus if you go back and look, nobody really said anything at all offensive or really even very accusatory until after he showed up all hostile.  Look at page 49 and then his first post to the thread on page 50 was this:

some poeple should be really carefull what they are saying in here, lawyers will have fun to protect my rights.

you can ask me in a normal way, without this shitty garbage.

i told on our discord cleary don‘t buy it, because they dont work, also this guy exodussian, in a dm conversation, i told him don‘t buy it! against all what i told him, he thinked he is clever and can reboot the device every 20min, i am not responsible for your decision, i have not put the gun on your head to buy it, and i have not did anykind of advertisent for it,  for no one of you! you decided by your self, like i did and we are all scammed, what a surpise in this crypto world, scam from ico, tg groups and and and.

and when you copy paste images, then copy paste also the sections where i am saying dont buy it because they dont work.

and what kind of stupid idiot you must be? this scammer put so much effort to be hidden on all, and to think that  i have something todo with this in public.. why should be somebody so stupid!!

Not the attitude you would expect if he had simply purchased one and received it and then everyone else got scammed.  As I posted before, I was inclined to think he had just lied about receiving it for whatever stupid reason and his lie blew up in his face when the whole thing turned out to be a scam.  And while I understand that people have a hard time owning up to their dishonesty, his reactions make me start to question if just a stupid lie is really all there is to it.  Maybe he is the scammer.  Maybe the scammer is his buddy.  As I also posted before, based on his reactions, the very best case scenario in regards to him is that he's only a stupid liar.  Every other possibility is worse.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: July 19, 2018, 03:25:09 PM
you guiys you guys mauybe the miner is real lollololo0lo

I used to believe in the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, Unicorns, pots of gold at the end of rainbows.  But all I smell here since day one was fish.  When the Paypal option was removed then I new it was rotten fish.  So that is why I am hoping someone hunts this guy down.  Then it would get really fun.
There's only two things that smell like fish, and one of them is fish.

what is other thing?
Well, if you don't know, you're probably too young!  Grin

Save your sexist bullshit for your highschool buddies.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: July 15, 2018, 08:32:10 PM
it told you very clear already on page 50 when i got informed that there is a thread here, i am not in dept by you in any case, i don't need to proof anything, you wan't something from me, then behave normal ask me normal and i will help you!

you didn't and you continued with your shit show, i told you also the consequences when you continue like that, do you really think you can extort and force me.

since you continued i am not going in anycase to help you, i told you can talk with my lawyers so easy it is! why your are denying it? you are welcome who ever wan't something, i am available here with my lawyers office@ra-hoefler.at waiting for you.

you have something to say, then don't hide your self behind a avatar and take also responsibility for the extortion and assumption that you are doing.

you are behaving like a kid, he can't get his lollypop, ohhh so lets start a shit show, shame on you!

futher more, marking my avater to give it less trust because you climbed the "legend level" because you have nothing else todo then shitposting the whole day, again i can just move my head and tel you, shame on you!

comon don't hide your self, show us who you are and stop this game in the dark.

why you are denying the legal process?

What I have to say (and have said already) does not require me to know your name, not does it require you to know my name. You made claims that appear to be lies, you need to prove they're not, or you can keep lying if you prefer to look like a scammer. It's up to you. I asked you to post the pictures, you're threatening with lawyers, surely that's not normal, is it?

And really - if you actually had talked to a lawyer the first advice would have been to shut up and stop digging your hole. So take an aspirin, cool down, and post those pictures, or go actually talk to your lawyers and have them send me a letter that I could frame and put up on the wall.

Your self-importance is unbecoming. I need to prove I'm innocent to you because why, you say so? Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? And no, the pictures won't do any favors, you would just turn around the story to claim that i am the scammer,  because I'm clearly the only sucker who bought the damn thing and the scammer jumped on the opportunity to frame me.

If you're so clever you'd realize you're the useful idiot here. What you're doing is slanderous, based on nothing but assumptions on top of assumptions. Why? You know this hurts my reputation and now after all what you did, you expect from me to help you, there is no reason anymore, and since I don't owe you a damn thing my only recourse is legal action. Is that so hard to understand for your mind?

No it's your behavior and attitude that makes you look like a scammer.  I had thought you were just a stupid guy who lied about having the thing but now I am starting to think maybe you are more involved with this scam than I thought.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Equihash miners/Z9 owners. What are you folks mining and why? on: July 15, 2018, 07:26:14 PM
Well honestly I look at ZCL as a shit coin too just because it basically carbon copied the original.  I mean if you want an innovative cryptocurrency, make an original and innovative coin.   Copying another coin but changing one tiny thing isn't exactly a recipe for success in my book.  Zcash has some good features, without the tax I think it would be pretty solid.  But a copy coin isn't really my thing either.  I basically looked at it as an attempt to cash in on someone else's success, even though the success they were cashing in on wasn't really deserved.

I am not against mining ZCL either though.  I'll mine whatever.  I trade and hold only a handful of cryptos though with monero being probably my favorite for a number of reasons.
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Looks like the Antminer Z9 is finally out. (3319 USD) on: July 15, 2018, 05:46:00 PM
You must have missed it but this was announced quite a while back.

This thread was posted five days ago https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4636199.msg41900640#msg41900640
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Equihash miners/Z9 owners. What are you folks mining and why? on: July 15, 2018, 05:37:31 PM
I'm mining ZEC personally.  I too think the 20% dev tax is beyond the pale and for that reason I will never hold or use ZEC.  I consider it a shit coin as long as it has that tax which presumably will be forever.  But that doesn't mean I can't mine it.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: July 15, 2018, 02:06:44 AM
...and cannot imagine the frustration of being put in the situation he is being put in here.

Oh bullshit.  Now he's the victim?  His statements contributed to the scam.  People bought the card based on his claim that it existed.  Whether or not it really existed was, and remains, an open question but he seemed to put that concern to rest by claiming to have one.  I don't think he was really involved in the scam.  I suspect he lied when he said he had it because he wanted people to think he was cool or for whatever reason people say bullshit like that.  I don't think the device even exists.  But regardless of why he said it, his claim aided the scammer to scam people.  He's not a victim here, at best he's a liar who helped a thief.  I could characterize it more generously and I would actually if he had been more forthcoming but he decided not to be.
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: July 14, 2018, 06:47:03 PM

i am not in dept by you in any case, i told you, you can talk in a normal way or i will not continue, i am not a kid to play your games in here, you want something then act like a man, i am not that kind of guy to play such games.

for any further communication you can get in touch with office@ra-hoefler.at

Sounds like we should probably alert the bit.tube community that they have a known scammer in their midst.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: July 14, 2018, 06:05:45 PM

first of all, you are not reading.

second i stop this now here i don‘t need to answer anything, i activate now my lawyer‘s for fud in here about me without any proof, just garbage talking.

any further communication goes through my lawyer‘s and i am going to report this now, what you are doing is against the laws and you know that.

You sound like you are in on it to me.
