1041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Coinchoose doesn't work for calculating WDC or DGC Profitability on: May 25, 2013, 11:49:21 PM
Bump. The WDC community has concluded that it is common for you to receive 60% of what your pools "reward calculator" is displaying.

So if coinchoose is showing 180% profitability to BTC, it is in fact 60% of the 180%, which is 108% actual profitability to BTC.

This is common for all coins with a faster block time. This information will be added to the WDC forum, under a stickied FAQ thread within a day or so.

That is all.

Thank you for the information!

Can you please also be so kind and tell me where is the "WDC forum"?
1042  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why would anybody use CAVIRTEX? on: May 25, 2013, 11:19:19 PM
My favourite thing about CAVIRTEX is that you can buy shares in the company with your bitcoins very easily.  You don't need to become a stock broker to play with stocks thanx to bitcoin. Smiley

Is that something available only on Cavirtex?

1043  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: May 25, 2013, 05:43:24 PM
The only point to do this if you intend to commit fraud against amazon. I actually got about 154 kh per card. if you also mine with the cpu.. It's a total of 360 kh/s per instance. That's 2 dollars a day in LTC cost of 7 dollars a day in Amazon charges. you also would get downtime if you limitted your spot instance to .30 an hour cost.

Fraud = not paying the bill? (No, I have no such intentions, I am just curious about your experience.)
1044  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why would anybody use CAVIRTEX? on: May 25, 2013, 05:42:10 PM
I use cavirtex with no problems. It is even better than gox.

Gox has better exchange rates than Cavirtex, but it is virtually impossible to withdraw CAD from there (i.e., without a substantial loss).

I noticed that the exchange rates on Cavirtex are deflated compared to other exchanges, and the reason may be their 3% fee, which somehow ends up being factored into the price people are willing to pay for bitcoin on that exchange.
1045  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why would anybody use CAVIRTEX? on: May 25, 2013, 01:06:42 AM
Cavirtex is reliable, stable and has good customer service. They haven't had problems with banks like some exchanges have. The fee is high, but I feel comfortable putting my money there.

Just for the record, LibertyBit was very responsive! They traced down the issue in a very short time, and even compensated me for the change in the exchange rate that I missed out as a result of the delay in depositing the funds.

Bottom line: I think LibertyBit provides a great service, and Cavirtex should substantially lower its fees if it wants to stay in business.

As far as Canadian exchanges go, I've been using LibertyBit to purchase coins (I've since moved the coins over to Gox and have been trading there). Their trading fees are competitive withe other major exchanges (0.5%) but most importantly imo they accept e-transfers for only $2. Not only is it super convenient not having to go to the bank, but its significantly cheaper than wiring money to Gox or bitstamp.

One of the big downsides at the moment is that their volume is very low. This could pose some issues to people who want to trade large amounts of coins or those who want to catch fast changes in price. Given then fees and convenience factor for Canadians, I'm surprised at the low volume. Imo it might have to do with the site design (in particular the home page) as I feel it looks pretty amateurish compared to the other exchanges. I don't think I'd feel comfortable trusting them to hold a large sum of my fiat.

I agree. LibertyBit has much lower fees, and charging $2 for e-transfers is far more reasonable than the $6 that CAVIRTEX charges.

I do wonder if this discussion has anything to do, though, with the fact that LibertyBit seems to have had a security breach today, as this message shows:

*EMT Withdrawals Temporarily Limited* Due to an investigation of a fraudulent EMT transaction, our primary EMT Withdrawal account is unable to send funds. Daily EMT withdrawals will be limited until the issue is resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience during this time. No other methods are affected.

Furthermore, a recent deposit that I made there does not seem to be showing up.

I do wonder who is behind the whole thing.

As per their policy the guy from cablesaurus offer to send me replacements as it is believe the risers was damaged during shipment, he has offer to throw in an extra but from my recent bad experience of such high failure rate from riser cable I'm hoping he could do extra of 2 instead of 1 especially when they are sending me 3 for replacement (from my previous order I received 3 out of 4 bad risers).

That is very nice of them!

On the amazon instance,

cudaminer gives 150 kh/s per M2050 (compute capability 2.0)   versus 95 kh/s for cgminer.

Can you elaborate on the setup, the type of instance, etc.  -- and perhaps even be so kind to provide a screenshot?
1050  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: PCI-E x16 - x16 riser trouble on Gigabyte motherboard on: May 23, 2013, 02:45:12 PM
Thank you so much!!!! You just lifted the weight off me, almost a week of late nights just trying to figure out the problem. You are right that the riser cables is bad. I tried it on my ASUS motherboard with ASUS graphics card and out of 4 riser cables only 1 is working without problem the other 3 is bad.

Apparently the problem was from the riser cable not from the Gigabyte motherboard or graphics card. The guy from cablesaurus offer to refund me if i send the bad cables back (not sure what use getting the bad cables back).

You are very welcome. I am glad I was able to help.

I would insist that the seller pay for the return shipping of the defective item. In most states, you are probably entitled to it also under the law.

OMG its $500 overpriced

I agree.
1052  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: PCI-E x16 - x16 riser trouble on Gigabyte motherboard on: May 23, 2013, 03:35:39 AM
So this is what i've done for testing, I isolate the test to only use the 1st PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard while trying on different different riser. From my observation, one of the cable seem to work better for the motherboard to detect the graphics card. The way I carried out the test was by having my boot-able HDD removed (so that I don't mess it up from constant powering on and off without proper shutdown), have a monitor connected to the graphics card and riser cable is used to connect PCIe x16 slot 1 on the motherboard to the graphics card (just 1 graphics card on the motherboard). I then power on the computer to see if it can display the boot-up screen on the monitor, with some of the riser the graphic card manage to display the bios boot up screen on the monitor while other just doesn't.

Here is the puzzling part, those risers that used to display the bios boot up screen on first try might stop showing the boot up screen after switching from other riser cable I test on or if I disconnect and reconnecting it (I'm certain everything is plugged in correctly between the motherboard and the graphics card and power supply cables are connected to the graphics card as well). There are times power cycling the motherboard could get it to show the boot up screen on the monitor while other times it just refuse to show anything on the monitor (the monitor is not showing black screen but rather it goes to standby mode thinking that the computer is turned off). Is it possible that the signal between the motherboard and graphics card is corrupted or the signal that the motherboard / graphics card is sending out is too weak for either components to pick up correctly?

To clear out the suspicion if the graphic card is not getting enough power from PSU, I'm using a CoolerMaster Silent Master 1500W so that is well enough for all 4 graphics card plugged in.

Did you try this experiment with all four graphical cards and all possible combinations of graphical card and riser?

In general, it sounds like something is wrong with the risers, perhaps the contact is not perfect. I would try then the same experiment with a different motherboard (single card + riser), to see if the instability is related to the motherboard or the riser.

Is anyone else having the same problem with 50BTC.com?

Let me summarize again:

I am a registered member of the pool, I withdrew some bitcoins, it shows a transaction ID, but no payment is shown on block explorer, and the transaction seems to have never been broadcast.

This happened more than 12 hours ago, and several blocks were found by 50BTC.com since then, but still no trace of the payment.
1055  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: 50BTC.com: Payments are not processed? on: May 21, 2013, 11:54:48 PM
50BTC doesn't include appropriate fees on payouts to their miners.  As a result, they generally are only included in blocks mined by 50BTC because other nodes won't even relay them.  This is why it doesn't show up on blockchain.info - normal nodes will simply not relay the payout because it is considered spam due to lack of fees for the size/inputs.  As far as I'm aware, 50BTC's nodes do put payouts to miners as a priority so once 50BTC does find a block it should be confirmed.

There were several blocks found by 50BTC since the payment, but it is still not showing up.

Yes, several solved blocks, actually.
Are you registered or anon? If registered, I would send them a PM, or hope they see it here. If anon, I believe it will only pay once a week.

I am registered, and I already sent them a PM, but got no response so far.

I sent a payment from 50BTC.com, and it shows up as if it had been executed, transaction ID:

ec38a796a1113c3c2065ea3f624f57c98b6290d1da4729fb33b552120ed8af63

But this transaction is nowehere to be found, and needless to say, the bitcoins did not reach the recipient.

Are you having similar problems?

Do you see a Solved Block after your send time? (Under Dashboard on the right side) I have noticed that my payments don't show up until after a block has been solved by the pool. I've read this is normal.

Yes, several solved blocks, actually.

That transaction doesn't show up in Blockcain.info so it is safe to say it hasn't been sent.

You probably don't want to use 50BTC as an E-Wallet for sending payments to others.  When you request a withdrawal from an E-Wallet, you are simply submitting  a request for withdrawal and that request has to be processed by the E-Wallet operator.

If you had used a wallet that you control (e.g., Bitcoin-Qt/bitcoind, Bitcoin Wallet mobile app, etc.) then the transaction gets broadcast immediately.

It was a withdrawal -- sending coins to myself.
