Go step by step:
First, connect only one card using the riser, and see what happens. (No other cards or risers.)
If i works fine, try the other riser cable, again, with a single card setup.
If either of these steps fail, try to plug the riser at different slots, and see if that makes any difference.
If that works too, then try one card plugged into the mother board, and one card with a riser. See what happens.
Then try only two cards into the motherboard, and no risers, and see again what happens.
Then try two cards into the motherboard, and one card with a riser.
Basically, you should try to isolate the cause of the problem.

Would you please be so kind to explain what 01ff and 02ff mean, and what is the difference between the voltage settings in positions 000b020-000b0a0 and around 000bb50?
The stuff you're looking at around b020-b0a0 are the powerplay tables. Normally the fields you're pointing out (01ff and 02ff) contain the numeric values for the voltage used for that powerplay state. In the case of the 7000 series cards, these fields aren't actually used to control the voltage... The voltage numbers you're seeing around bb50 are the labels used for each voltage depending on the quality of the ASIC. Modifying the labels doesn't actually modify the voltage, however. What swordfish did just forced the cards to use the lowest possible voltage state. You could put 0.001 volts in those label fields and the cards would still run (which is obviously impossible). This is very interesting! Is there a good article or post on this entire topic that you would recommend for further reading?

I have 4 Sapphire 7970 Dual X, get about 750 per card, no problems at all, temperature 68-72. Great card, highly recommended.
Would you please be so kind to post your core/mem settings, and voltage?

What you actually changed on this modification is a field called "ulMaxVoltageLevel" inside the boost state tables.
Can you elaborate on the various fields in the state tables? My understanding is that some of the interesting settings are found at positions 000b020-000b0a0, 000b020: 0148 e801 02ff 6b03 0200 0000 0000 50c3 000b030: 0080 3801 2003 5c03 0100 0000 0000 3075 000b040: 0080 3801 2003 5c03 0100 0000 0000 409c 000b050: 0080 3801 2003 5c03 0000 0000 0000 3075 000b060: 0098 3a00 b603 6b03 0000 0000 0000 b4c3 000b070: 0048 e801 b603 6b03 0100 0000 0000 084c 000b080: 0148 e801 01ff 6b03 0200 0000 0000 3075 000b090: 0098 3a00 2003 6b03 0000 0000 0000 0418 000b0a0: 0800 0000 7800 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 while the voltage change was made around 000bb50: 000bb50: 0110 2a00 0005 0000 a404 0000 a404 8d00 Would you please be so kind to explain what 01ff and 02ff mean, and what is the difference between the voltage settings in positions 000b020-000b0a0 and around 000bb50?

Only one occurrence for voltage unless you are very unlucky it should have 00's either side (eg 00 XX XX 00), any other occurrence is a different number or different data.
That is a bit surprising. Would you be so kind to share your modded bios? (I would like to study it for the voltage issue.)
|
|
|
I have hex edited the bios in a 7950 got the voltage down from 1.188 to 0.950 wasn't on a locked card just wanted to do under linux and amdoverdrivectrl did nothing to lower the voltage on the max profile. more infoThis is very interesting. Can you elaborate on the hex editting? When I look at the BIOS of cards, I find usually the same voltage appearing at four different places. Is this also your experience? Did you change all four occurrences, or...?
|
|
|
I noticed that the voltage on a number 7950/7970 cards can be changed by modding the BIOS, which shows that the voltage is not set in stone (in the hardware).
Can someone explain the discussion about the ability to change voltages?

Sheesh how hard do I have to try and convince you? It wedges in there WHEN IT CRASHES.
Oh, now I see what you mean. Did you ever look into trying to find a cure for this (short of getting AMD to fix the problem)?

Direct Quote: " The DHS issued a "seizure warrant" for the funds associated with Mt. Gox's Dwolla account.
The Department of Homeland Security appears to have shut down the ability to use Dwolla, a mobile payment service, to withdraw and deposit money into Mt. Gox, a Bitcoin trading platform. A Dwolla representative confirmed the move to Betabeat. Chris Coyne, cofounder of OKCupid, posted a screenshot(url: https://twitter.com/malgorithms/status/334395559366520832) of an email he received from Dwolla, stating that due to recent orders from the Department of Homeland Security, Dwolla cannot complete the bank transfer to Mt. Gox." I would love to see the original order and the reasons for it too. In general, court documents are public, so anyone should be able to review the documents that have been filed with the court, unless parts of it are sealed. But if so, the press could and should challenge the sealing order.

The Sales of Goods Act applies to the United Kingdom. As for the Consumer Protection Act: Whenever you buy merchandise, it comes with a warranty. This is a guarantee that it will serve the purpose it was purchased for - in other words, it will work. The two basic types of warranty are express and implied. An express warranty is a promise from the seller, either written, oral or in an ad, promising that the item will perform its function for a specified period. Whether the item purchased is new or used, an express warranty is a guarantee that the item will work. However, not all items come with an express warranty.
The law automatically provides the second type of warranty, the implied warranty. Implied warranties are a part of all retail sales of new and used consumer goods. Basically, the retailer of an item implies that the item will work properly and be of average grade and quality, as long as it is used for the purpose it was sold. For example, a refrigerator will keep stuff cool as long as you are not trying to cool the entire room, and a blender will blend as long as you are not blending rocks. The Consumer Protection Act can last UP TO four years in perfect circumstances, but would be far less in the case of high-performance computing devices, which don't last nearly that long. It is an implied warranty that takes reasonable considerations into account. The products I sell are made from high quality parts, and will work well in areas with proper ventilation and cooling. My products do come with warranty; the manufacturer's warranty for every component is forwarded onto the buyer. As stated before, if the buyer wishes to pay for shipping, I'll gladly fix the product, however it is much faster and more cost effective for the buyer to go directly to the manufacturer. You seem to forget that there is a certain country north of the US that seems to follow common law to a great extent, and has codified any of the UK precedents in its statutes. I suggest that you look up Sales of Goods Act and Consumer Protection Act of various Canadian provinces. Just for starters: You, as the seller, will very likely have to pay for all shipping costs if something goes wrong.

The driver is absolutely wedged into the operating system kernel and unremovable. Getting the picture yet?
I do understand what you say, but I was able to unload it when it is not attached to cgminer, and then load it again. So, it becomes unremovable only when one of the cards gets sick and/or dies.

Warranty: We don't provide any warranty ourselves on the machines we sell, however many of the components come with manufacturer warranties. You will need to open the box to send items back. We will guarantee that when the product leaves us, it works great.
I strongly recommend that you look up the notion of "statutory warranty," because as a seller, you cannot disclaim every warranty in most jurisdictions. A statutory warranty, as I understand it, is used in real estate (mostly) and certifies that the seller has the title on the property being sold. I am afraid you are wrong on that. You may wish to look up the Sales of Goods Act and the Consumer Protection Act of various provinces.

I would like to compile a guide/database for 7970 cards, which includes optimal settings for each manufacturer and model.

As the title says are they the same security wise? Is scrypt based off of sha256?
Thanks
No, they are different hash algorithms.
