It is said that the sMerit is charged once. The whole next Merit is handed out by secret agents? Yes, some people received some sMerit based on their rank and that is being given away right now. There are also ~45 Merit Sources which get a certain amount of merit each month which they can give away, which then can be given away to others (since every received Merit will grant you 0.5 sMerit).
huh ... negative rating ? someone start trading smerit (Chinese board) I've post it yesterday and include thread link , I thought it's already deleted by mod , but thread still there Must have missed it, this thread is huge. Anyway, given them a negative trust rating and reported to theymos and Cyrus.

Have you heard of negative SEO? What if person A leaves 50 merits or so on a short post of person B using account of person C to get some negative trust for him. Person C will get punished without any fault.
I'm talking about clear cases of buying/selling merit. This sounds more like abusing the merit system with alternative accounts, which is a whole other issue.

I think this system will lead to a new type of spam. Merit begging and scammers will find a way to monetize by searching for the beggars... IMHO
I'll ignore beggars (and maybe leave a neutral trust rating) and I'll give a negative trust rating to anyone that is buying or selling merit (since they are not trustworthy IMO). I'm not sure what other members will do, but this will be my approach.

The problem is you dont have the ability to influence the level of your Merit. Users will transfer their Merits to their "friends" only. I've just checked your post history and all I can see are some short posts, Twitter bounty applications and posts in a trashed Russian thread (all Russian sections are on my ignore list). Not much there for me to give merit to (and I've been giving merit to a lot of random people: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=113670). I do agree with you that a lot of merit will be given to friends, which could be a problem in the future, we aren't sure yet, the system is brand new. With each new transfer the amount of Merit is reduced by half, In a few days, it simply will not remain. How to grow account with the new rules? Merit sources currently generate 9025 sMerit every 30 days, so there will always be a supply of merit.

I thought I have read clearly that only quality posts should be given merits, why am I seeing 1-2 liner post that have been merited. Doesn't mean you agree to their reply its already of quality? If that's the case this new system is getting really amusing. We'll see how this goes, good luck to us all.
I currently merit posts that are either of good quality or in some way contributing to the discussion, forum, etc. So it doesn't necessarily have to be an amazing post, if someone makes a well timed joke, I might just merit them.

This will be fun for sure. If I had to come up with a suggestion, I'd say consider not rounding sMerit down in the personal merit page; seeing .5 at the end shouldn't be a problem for this forum and it would reinforce that sending 1 Merit does not waste any sMerit.
I have suggested this to theymos like ten minutes ago, haha. I really think that it would clear up some of confusion about this new system.

Okay thanks! And you're right this will take some time to learn. A learning cure for me that's for sure.
And thank you for the sMerit. I looked and it says "You have 0 sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people." So if I get one more sMerit then I can send one sMerit to someone else - correct? But what I'm really wondering, if I get one more sMerit will those other 4 sMerits come back? Surely I didn't have 4 sMerits decay (disappear) in less than 48 hours. I started out with 10 Merits so I should have 5 sMerits right?
As of right now sMerit does not decay, so you don't need to worry about that. You can find your total available amount here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit

I somewhat fear, that this will result in buying/selling merit points....
Merit sources are explicitly disallowed to sell merit. If they do they will most likely be removed as a source by theymos. If anyone else sells or buys merit, I'll make sure to give them a negative trust rating. I do not trust people that feel the need to cheat the system. Buying or selling merit is just as bad as buying and selling trust ratings. Yeah I'm in the same boat as you. I would send you a sMerit if I could but guess I used the only one I had. Have you sent anyone an sMerit yet? If so, was you able to send more then one?
Yes. I've been sending alot of merit around. Feel free to check my merit page by going to my profile and clicking on the merit link. I'll keep handing out merit to people that make good posts or contribute in any other way to the forum.

Yes, read that carefully after clicking +merit on other members. I believe you get 1 smerit per post and can spend that then. Thanks.
You clearly have not read the OP, since you get 0.5 sMerit for every merit you receive. You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.

It seems like I will ATN (All Time Newbie) And It doesn't matter, except the time between posts, that 360 seconds makes me angry) You already have enough merit to become Jr. member. Now you just need the activity
