Thanks odi. i will look into it.

Question to to any kind soul out there, dimension of the hole blowing OUT air from the avalon Mini? i can only reach them after stores are closed.. :/ The aluminium hose has 8cm, 10cm or 12cm where i can get them.. i think its 10 or 12cm.

82  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTB] bit coin lottery domain name. .com only. on: November 08, 2013, 07:52:36 AM
  • lottery must be part of the name (no incorrect spelling)

Is that a dealbreaker?

I registered bitcoinmegabucks.com a couple of years ago and never got around to developing it. I'd be willing to let it go for 0.25 BTC.

Not really, but in your case, the first point is a dealbreaker, one or two words, no exceptions. Three word combos are plenty readily available for $10, just like yours.

found module dead and unplug it and you can run again with only one module

my 4 mini work fine at 400 and little more 403mhz. only one at 398 because at 400 alot of hw.

very very cool enviroment? you are not on --avalon-auto?
i'd say its stretching it unless its very cool..

in an uninsulated attic with wide open for 2 mini  and 2 -4 modules -- all 4 in wifi

and same setup in another an uninsulated attic with wide open -- all 4 with ethernet cable

all front window in the airstream

the temperature depends attics outdoor temperature

i can do a picture if you want and check temperature.

the better mini i have i set at 404mhz with 1.5% hw and rarely restard alone or by me. 2 other at 403mhz with 1.5% hw and one at 398mhz and 1.5hw

i prefer my mini 2 modules instead 4 modules for sure. better performance for sure and more stable. rarely restart alone.

i not use --avalon auto

what does the temp say?

about 60 blocks were found since this pool last block.
according to bitcoinwatch.com the pool is  at least of 10% the total network hash.
the probability of NOT finding the next block  is 9/10 =90 %.
the probability of NOT finding 60 blocks in a row is (9/10)^60=0.001 which is 0.1% or 1 in a 1000 chance!
So I am 99.9% sure that there is a technical  problem with the pool.

Edit: 9/20^60= 0.017 and 9/10^65=0.001.we already got to 65 block in a row.

This round is at about 9xD. Unusual, and unlucky - only about 0.0001 of rounds (0.01%) can be expected to go longer. But the pool has solved thousands of rounds, so one round this long is quite possible. Lots of rounds at 9xD are a problem. Recently, Eligius has been more lucky than unlucky.

Anyone know how many rounds Eligius has solved so far?

2910 rows..

don't know if all have been published from start. but i guess so!

this was the days huh: 2012-01-15 10:04:27   00:24:52   135,382 389.72 Gh

Thanks I just did that rite before you answered and it seems to have picked up a little speed and stabilized some. Ill run it all night like this and see what happens. I think I may be pulling to much power off this breaker and that may be causing errors. I keep seeing the lights dim  Shocked Im going to move to another room.

while it's not very safe, it should not matter too much as most switched power supplies will adjust for a big swing in input voltage
After moving to another breaker and running for a few hours today Im still seeing crazy HW errors. I opened up the case and checked all my connections everything is nice and snug.

Avalon mini batch 2

Firmware 20130821
--avalon-auto
1h 20m 6s
60-53GH/s
2617 accepted    85 rejects  HW 850
Frequency 375 Fan1 4080     temps 27 49 47

32% HW errors is crazy high. Any suggestions?

Don't use --avalon-auto on your mini.

I run the same CK firmware version
--quiet
1d 6h 42m 38s
63GH/s
47954 accepted 116 rejects HW 13643
Frequency 400 Fan1 2400 / temps 20 49 42
HW% 0.8251

Stick the mini in a cool place, in your basement or a cold room (if you have one), or if you are like me and you live in Canada or Alaska put near a open window or door with the fan facing forward so it can pull the cool air through it.

why not --avalon-auto? works good for me. i want freq to drop if it overheats or hw increase..
88  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 07, 2013, 12:12:20 PM
yes, and stick to --avalon-auto, that will keep it focusing on NOT overheating..
I lowered mine to 360 yesterday as room was way to hot and chips running hot aswell.
Cool ambient and dont stress your chips.
400mhz worked for those with extreme watercooling.
Remeber ,these chips are stock 280.. so even 375 is stretching them, the old avalons cannot run easily on 375, the new blades in the mini, can overclock "more stable" based on added/bettered covering heatsink.

it's like this,
we all got rewarded with our shares every time we (pool) solve one block.
usually it takes form 5-10 minutes to 2-2.5 hours for pool to solve block.
well we are solving this one for almost 9 hours.

See it like looking for a needle in a haystack, where we most of the time find the needle very fast, as difficulty increases, theres more hay, in a bigger space for each increase. we can still be lucky, but luck always evens out.. And this is what we see now, streak of luck in recent past, and now we get to eat it up..
90  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 07, 2013, 09:23:27 AM
I mean seriously, more than two units of avalon mini's is impossible in one room. They are like hot stones!
These chips cannot be over 375mhz for sure..

I was thinking of leading the hot air from the units with one of these aluminium "tubes" anyone have experience doing this? I have a window slightly open, but the room is still heating up, and the units default at 350mhz running on 50dgrs.. (i dont really care about the heat, its more the noise and the power draw i care about, and by releasing hot air, keeping them cool, should increase speed and lower heat..).

something like this maybe?
http://www.directindustry.com/prod/yang-chiuan-industrial-co-ltd/aluminum-coated-galvanised-steel-fabric-hoses-88137-894785.html

Aluminium coated galvanised steel fabric hose. 130dgr+ ok.
91  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 07, 2013, 08:23:13 AM
Is there a way to set the fans to a minimum and keep it there regardless of the temperature?

I set fan at 40% but when the temp raises the fan starts to spin faster.

My goal is to turn avalon into a silent heater.

Hehe, no matter what you do, it will try and keep heat at 50dgr (or 70 on chip). if it goes above, it will risk your chips frying..

whoah, 7 hrs and still going, record size shares.. i guess we will be seeing a lot more of these.. :/
93  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 06, 2013, 09:52:05 PM
System
Scheduled Tasks
Add these two:
0  */3 *   *   *     /etc/init.d/cgminer restart
0  20  *   *   *     /sbin/reboot

first one, will restart cgminer every three hours.
second will restart entire miner every 20 hours..
This way i have realised to keep some of my miners online better (those on wifi tend to lock and go m.i.a after a while).
94  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon auctioning their 55nm chips on: November 06, 2013, 12:59:00 PM
"Avalon ASIC Mining Chip: A3255 Auction
500 chips, 1.5-1.6 GH/s (standard), 0.9V, 2.0W
Thank you for your interest in this auction; the auction has now closed. The Clearing Price for this product was 2.21 Bitcoin. Bidders will be contacted within 24 hours, from the close, to be notified of their status. Products will be shipped within 72 hours of the close of the auction."

Wow, some amateurs! reused the winning bid on the mini auction and put it on the chip when auction closed without winners..

I don't get it.  What bidders?

exactly, they had zero bidders.. but the amateur part is that they just showed the standard response which was from an previous auction, that cleared for 2.21 btc.. min bid for this one was 24 so its all wrong.
95  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: YIFU IS AUCTIONNING? on: November 06, 2013, 12:57:00 PM
Well, that works a lot better. I'll have to play with it some more, 400 seems to be no issue but 425 is a no-go.

Has anyone use their Avalon to act as a WiFi to Wired bridge, and if so how did that work for running the rest of your mining hardware on it?

I have used my Avalon as a bridge.  I connected my laptop via cable to the Avalon while in the basement, the Avalon via WiFi to the router upstairs.  It worked fine, but I had to review netmasks and gateways a bit.  I was able to Google for questions that bothered me so while setting up the lab.

I have not tried to run a second Avalon through the 1st.
Thanks, I'll look into it. I'm thinking about running a couple rPis off the Avalon running some BFL gear.

I got the cheapest atheros chip tplink wifi n router for €28. set it up as on dd-wrt (new firmware).
then you connect this as a client bridge connecting to your main router.
That way you can connect 5 avalons using tp-cable to the wifi-router, who in turn connects over wifi..
Sadly the wifi's on the avalons are not very stable when enabled.

hi guys, how do i track miners separately as i see some addresses on the top list doing it? i have tried googling and your docs, with no info!
Would be great to be able to track each worker separately..

You can make workers by using a user name of <bitcoin address>_<worker_name> for each worker instead of just <bitcoin_address> for all of them.

Thanks! Works great. Maybe something for the wiki?
97  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Open Source Avalon Gen2 55nm Board on: November 06, 2013, 06:50:58 AM
make same size as gen1 unit so we can reuse the heatsinks and contact ckolivas for firmware support.
98  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Open Source Avalon Gen2 55nm Board on: November 06, 2013, 06:21:08 AM
i do think its the first thing avalon will sell when they sold all g1 chips..
500 g2 chips are 12btc now.
99  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Open Source Avalon Gen2 55nm Board on: November 05, 2013, 10:15:39 PM
design boards that fit in standard avalon casing! so we can scrap the old cards and get 4x80x1.5GH per unit.
