1281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should you avoid anything funded by Alameda Research / FTX ? on: November 13, 2022, 08:35:23 PM
I just sold my 150 Solana out of FUD ( thinking I might buy it back at $5 soon ), and I am now worried many other projects were backed by Alameda Research. Are these projects doomed too, or can some of them ( like Helium ) survive and eventually thrive again ?
Most likely... We already had projects like Serum Network  having their native tokens dumb so badly due to the strong connection with Alameda.

The bear market is still on. I think we are yet to see more and more coins collapse especially if the Alameda money mess caught up with them too. I wouldn't touch any coin connected to Alameda for now.
1282  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2022/23 on: November 13, 2022, 08:19:36 PM
Benzema has proven that he deserves to remain the best in the Spanish league and the Ballon D'or is one proof that he is indeed the best, at this time Benzema performance at Madrid has not reached its peak like last season, while this season Benzema has only played 12 times in all competitions but his contribution is still quite large by scoring 6 goals, the decline in Benzema goal collection can not be separated from the injuries that continue to be experienced by Benzema, but I think if Benzema returns to  fit condition of course he will return to being a madrid predator .
I also feel the endless injuries have affected the momentum of his form but whenever he plays, you get to realize why Real Madrid miss him so much.

We shouldn't also forget that Vini hasn't been himself this season. The partnership between him and big benz worked so well last season.
1283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is this online web wallet safe? on: November 12, 2022, 09:56:07 PM
I want to buy some coins right now and I found out the project has no standalone wallet yet, you can only open a wallet through their online platform and they claimed its fully open source, the name of the project is PoKT Network.

I want to know if it's safe to use a web wallet that's open source for a while? I remember Elcetronuem using the same kinda wallet in 2018 and it works very well if you know how to keep private keys safe.

https://wallet.pokt.network

Yeah, it's open source - https://github.com/pokt-network

Web wallets are mostly not trusted because chances of getting a phishing attack are so easy. But you can actually create the wallet offline. I just checked it out. The link is from the official site, so there is no need to worry.
1284  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: Why was Mane called up? on: November 11, 2022, 09:26:47 PM
I be placing full blames on Senegalese National Team honestly, they should have informed Bayern Munich of how Sadio Mane is vital for em to give him lesser game time at the last few games to avoid unnecessary injuries. Same goes to Bayern Munich, he should have been rested, why over use him ?
He has a contract with them (Bayern Munich), how exactly did you expect Senegal to convince Bayern Munich to rest Sadio Mané, especially during the time they were trying to tighten on the top spot from Stubborn Union Berlin?

It's unfortunate that he got injured during the critical time, but I don't think you can change one's fate?

Look at Marco Reus of Germany. Dude has got to be one of the unluckiest players alive.

All the usernames have been guessed i suppose, looks like this one was slightly easier if one had to use BPIP.org and just look out for the list of profiles with the most posts (https://bpip.org/Report?r=mostposts) and skim through the list Smiley
1286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Borrowing against your coins a bad or good practice? on: November 11, 2022, 08:51:05 PM
The examples of failed companies listed above aren't a proof that lending is impossible or that the business idea is doomed. Those are examples of greedy companies that were playing with the funds they had.

They wanted to make more money so they were engaging in risky games of investing with leverage and like SBF did throwing money at every possible investment option. They threw billions at Alameda but how much did Alameda make for them? Not nearly as much.

I agree that it's more risky than simply holding volatile cryptocurrencies. You'd have to find a regulated transparent company.
It's funny that the main reason most of us here believed in Bitcoin and other legit cryptos was because we wanted full control of our funds and also avoid shitty third party institutions like banks that make money out of our money.

The same exact thing with the so-called borrowing and lending DeFi projects. Very centralized, very corrupt and full of fund mismanagement. You only see it when it was too late. Two weeks ago, did you have any idea the FTX had all this ugly things it did behind the scenes?
1287  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Does the planet really need saving? on: November 11, 2022, 05:23:06 PM
I guess you are messing up with the wrong meaning of this phrase. Saving the earth means saving it for the people and the next generations. Things require proper attention and are looked after so they may not get worse in the future when it would be more difficult and next to impossible to fix them soon; if we keep focusing on saving the earth, it would mean saving the upcoming (as well as current) generations.
1. Does a volcano give a fuck about less pollution?
2. Do tsunamis and Earth quakes care as well?

If I may ask, where do the "pollutants" come from? Not this very mother earth?
If the carbon has been part of the entire age of the earth, then why is it all of a sudden dangerous?

The Earth can self-heal if need be. A good example is the self-healing that happened after the Chernobyl disaster. What we should focus on is avoiding the senseless dick measuring contests (wars)

All the "save the earth', "save the planet" jibba-jabba is just a money making venture for the organizations involved. It's always about money.
1288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Borrowing against your coins a bad or good practice? on: November 10, 2022, 09:58:52 PM
Hi BTT famz, is it a good idea to borrow against your crypto assets?
Question 1;
Why would you borrow against your crypto assets?

By borrowing against your crypto assets, you are basically handing over your assets to a third-party custodian or a centralized lender as collateral.  You are putting your assets to more danger of getting mismanaged or stolen.

Is there anyone practising this right now? What are the risks involved in doing this? Is Defi borrow and lending the best way to go because I know some are centralised.

You wanna know about the dangers?

Read more about what happened in the:
1. Luna crash saga
2. Three Arrows Capital saga
3. Celsius network saga
4. Voyager Digital saga
5. FTX- Alameda Research saga

To mention but a few, all this happened in 2022,

The answer is basically right under your nose.
1289  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Were we just kids or have times changed? on: November 10, 2022, 09:46:20 PM
Hitherto, $1m has a huge value for people in the USA same with Euro. Though, it depends on the nation. However, to some persons in the US or Europe a million dollar won't make any change in their lives. Monetary value changes as we grow. As a kid a few thousand is meant to look big as it'll solve your problems and purchase all the toys you like. As we grow we tend to like bigger toys like cars, yatch, bike etc which cost alot of money, upto millions. Change in time affects our needs and wants which affects how money is been valued.
Change of expectations as we grow a side, to be honest $1m in the 90s or early 2000s was way more valuable than the current $1m, and It was also way too hard to acquire. I think you will agree with me on that.

What we are seeing in real time is the effect of inflation, where money loses the buying power over time.
1290  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FTX Scam : Unable to withdraw on: November 10, 2022, 09:31:58 PM
If you hear any good news about withdrawals on social media or on their official Twitter account, please do share it here.
There has been some news on Twitter indicating that FTX resumed withdrawals according to on chain data. The withdrawals are on and off, though. Most members are still complaining that they have pending withdrawals from yesterday. I am not sure if they are actually making withdrawals for all customers, or just specific whales or groups of people.

Thanks for the idea Cheesy. Can you kindly give me more info about  Linux OS?
And I don't think that disk was licensed because that disk I bought it only for 0.40$ in 2018. I usually update my os after setup.
Try Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or 22.04 LTS (https://ubuntu.com/#download). It's one of the user-friendly distributions of Linux for someone new to Linux. I personally use it. It's also easier to get help or support from other members in different forums if you happen to get a problem as compared to other distros.

Creating a bootable CD or USB plus installation is very easy if you follow instructions from different YouTube videos.

Best of it. It's free  Wink
1292  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Three Big Lessons from CZ. on: November 09, 2022, 09:57:57 PM
It is similar to collateral for your margin tradings. It should be in stable coins (a strong one that should be old enough. I don't trust new stable coins). If you use Bitcoin especially altcoins as collateral, you will be more easily liquidated.
I don't think one trading inverse contracts gives them a more likelihood of their position getting liquidated as compared to a position of a linear contract. It has more to do with the rise and fall in the value of the underlying crypto asset, which translates to more or less profits in USD quoted from the base currency.

Using people's money as collateral even with stablecoins can still fuck things up if the market goes against the opened positions. Stablecoins do make the positions bulletproof from liquidation. The problem is too much greed by the so-called exchanges.
1293  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] Binance intends to acquire FTX! on: November 09, 2022, 09:34:08 PM
Now with multiple exchanges deciding to provide Proof-of-reserves as reassurance for their customers, it would be interesting to see what the other platforms are up to and whether we're going witness the collapse of some of them.

Crypto exchanges are now scrambling to publicly publish their fund reserves as insolvency fears grapple crypto investors following contagion risks from liquidity issues at FTX.
In the past 24 hours, seven exchanges – Binance, Gate.io, KuCoin, Poloniex, Bitget, Huobi and OKX – have separately issued statements that they would publish their Merkle tree reserve certificates to increase transparency.
According to a tweet by bitmex reseach. Bitmex claims to be the early pioneer and strong advocate of Proof Of Reserves and Proof Of Liabilities

Apparently, their fist snapshot was in the summer of 2021

I am not that technical, and I don't know much about the merkle tree, so definitely I have no idea how this proof of reserves is verified. Maybe it's time to hit YouTube  Cheesy
1294  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recent event: Stay away from centralized exchanges (FTX, Binance, etc), use DEX on: November 09, 2022, 08:53:55 PM
Recent event should make us aware to leave centralized exchange and move to decentralized exchange, FTX aka the top 2 popular centralized exchange right now are halts all crypto withdrawals
Was it a top 2 really?

This is new to me. Maybe top 4 or 5

Don't use centralized exchange anymore, learn to use decentralized exchange e.g. BISQ.
I think most people use centralized exchanges because of their simplicity and high liquidity. For example, one can not use bisq on their mobile phone (they don't have mobile support) or a computer with very low resource or else it will freeze. I have experience with the latter back then.

You also can't use bisq to trade futures

I think the most important message is, never use centralized exchanges as wallets once one is done trading.
1295  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance buying FTX on: November 08, 2022, 09:19:11 PM
Interesting development and a big move by CZ?
I am overly surprised.

It's about time  Grin

With the acquisitions they made in the past, I don't think I would be surprised at all. This is really very bad for the crypto industry as whole. CZ knew it that FTX was going to suffer due to panic from traders.

"Decentralized Global economy" my ass. And he had the audacity to say that. More like try to kneel down and suck Cz's dick, especially after saying that a competitor was going after them with false rumors just some hours ago
1296  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your take on Bitcoin adoption trust issues on: November 06, 2022, 09:25:28 PM
Those who are flexible and sharp enough will come through after sometime. The rigid ones will take a lot of convincing before changing their beliefs but don't waste a lot of time trying to convince those who don't want to change.

Most people believe by seeing, perhaps you try to demonstrate them how Bitcoin works through a live transaction showing them how Bitcoin's transactions are boarderless with little transaction fees used.
Also present to the Bitcoin's market data so that they have an idea how far Bitcoin has come.
1297  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are they set a broker in my pc and stealing my data ? on: November 06, 2022, 08:54:22 PM
I think you are probably being paranoid due to the previous experience, which is OK. Runtime broker is a legit Microsoft Windows process is responsible for managing the permissions for the apps you download from Microsoft Store.

More info: What Is Runtime Broker (runtimebroker.exe) Process Doing On My Windows 10 PC?

Also, seeing multiple runtime broker processes in the task manager is something normal.

Use a better OS for managing your funds and wallets other than windows, as advised.
1298  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The new helpful idea for traders on: November 06, 2022, 02:52:23 PM
What you are looking at is basically the work of a bot, and there are so many bots that can do the work of monitoring the markets 24 plus sending timely alerts or even executing trades automatically in certain market conditions.

Why do you think people would abandon a trustworthy bot service for a group of people over the internet that have no single reputation?

Why my idea can be better then all others?
First we don't use bots to watch markets we Will have real people who's doing the market watching off course i will teach them what indicators to check.
I do belive that human analysis about market are better then bot's doing this becouse the market works very basic ways we just have to wait when btc or alt coins are at buying zone or selling zone.
Bots are emotionless, humans are full of emotions. Do you have any idea how much trade emotions affect a trader's way of trading?

1299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Issue in Binance P2P (disabled) on: November 05, 2022, 09:50:52 PM
So, you mean to say that OP has marked the orders as completed without actually transferring the money and therefore his P2P binance account is disabled?
Usually if one party tries to cheat, binance will take the proof from other party and resolve the dispute. For example, if he has not released the money, the bitcoin or USDT in escrow would not have released so there is no point cheating in binance P2P.
There are 2 options
1. Reporting the account to the customer support
2. Opening a dispute

Reporting the account to the customer support does not automatically lead to opening of a dispute, and they even warn before one makes a report, that, if they maliciously do it, they could face the consequences. I don't think the warning is a result of someone or group of people reporting the OP's account, though.
1300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The future of Solana is looking weak on: November 05, 2022, 09:34:43 PM
Yes, this is what enter into my mind when I see Solana in the title.

They have been hack too many times already that investors don't trust them anymore. And most of the team this kind of breach will take a toll on the project itself, the reputation of the dev behind is being question.

And the thing is, it's hard to recover from this news to be honest, not sure what the project will do so that the investors will bring back their money and confidence to Solana because in the beginning, they've even been touted as as ETH killer.
is it the same blockchain that has had a number of outages too?

Solana may not go any higher long term. Its story is going to be similar to the past coins that were touted as Ethereum killers like EOS, NEO, TRX etc. It's even worse now that ETH has gone POS. Their major selling point was the high ETH transaction fees.
