521  Economy / Economics / Re: Could take 5-8 years to shrink Fed portfolio: Yellen on: July 05, 2014, 03:48:17 AM
the fed has done a pretty good job of minimizing inflation with interest rates over the past several decades.

Do you really believe the graph and what you just said?
I would argue that 4% inflation (the ~rate after the 70's) is a good target to try for in reference to inflation.

During the 70's and the oil crisis the Fed did a very poor job handling inflation.
4% inflation is just above what the Fed would like it to be at as of now, and is much higher then it is now.
Exactly! 4% is a happy medium between everyone's life savings is rapidly declining in value and that inflation is so low that there is serious risk of wide spread, long term deflation and economic contraction

4% inflation is very high. Losing 40% of your saving every 10 years compounded to financial elite on top of taxes mean no ordinary citizen will be able to have any saving.

Only if your income doesn't keep up.   If you sell goods or services those prices rise w inflation

Salary lag inflation by months if not years while good are service are very sensitive to market and monetary policy.

Fix wages income, where most people belong to this category, can not keep up with inflation.

522  Economy / Economics / Re: New Idea to invest my $41,000 dollars - Litecoins to convert in Bitcoins on: July 05, 2014, 03:44:54 AM
Is Litecoin going to survive in the long term? This is the lowest price in the last 12 months I think.

I would doubt it. It is accepted for payment at very few if any merchants, and can really only be traded for bitcoin (some exchanges may exchange it for fiat). Owning LTC is basically speculation that anyone will start to accept it for payment sometime in the future.
Litecoin is likely a very bad investment for the above reasons.

IMO if you are going to speculate with large amounts of money on cryptos I would recommend bitcoin.

Litecoin still keep going down in value almost daily. I have not seen any big rally since January.

As for bitcoin, it may well be too late for late comers to gain any meaningful profit in the long term.

524  Economy / Economics / Re: What happens when *WE* are the wealthy elite? on: July 05, 2014, 03:31:33 AM
"The new elites" will not need to shed their humanity, respect for all beings, their non-violent attitude. This is among the advantages of the new economy we envision.

If being elite means someone which is different, with the special privilege to extract wealth from others using force: We are not going to be elites, the topic is wrong.

Being an idealist is good. If history is any guide, revolution doesn't happen without violent. And the new group of elite will not be any different than the current group of elite as time passes on.
525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone got any of the bitcoin ATM cards already? on: July 05, 2014, 03:19:53 AM
Xapo is suppose to be sending out cards this month according to an email I received from them. I will be testing one as soon as I receive it.

Got an email from Xapo last week also. I will test it out when I receive the card.

527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does any of the bitcoin friendly banks allow opening of accounts remotely? on: July 04, 2014, 05:23:58 PM
By friendly I mean that they won't terminate your account because you are involved in bitcoin

All banks in all countries need to follow kyc and aml.

In this regard, there is no friendly bank that won't blacklist you if your fiat transaction exceed certain threshold.
528  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is the Future of Bitcoin ? on: July 04, 2014, 04:48:20 PM
Bitcoin future is looking brighter with California ruling.

Any companies that is headquartered in California will now be able to accept bitcoin for payment.
529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EU Banks Must Shun Bitcoin Until Rules in Place, EBA Says on: July 04, 2014, 04:46:26 PM
Anyone still able to deposit and withdraw fiat from bitstamp and btc-e with this ruling?
530  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An Explanation Of Bitcoin And Its Implications For Consumer Protection on: July 04, 2014, 04:44:09 PM
Business, for their own interest, will provide competitive price and quality service.

531  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the West gearing up to invade Russia once again? on: July 04, 2014, 03:52:14 PM
US will probably do something stupid and provoke Russia into invading another country that sided with US.

Global war is unlikely to happen. But that doesn't mean Russia's neighbors and Europe won't suffer.

It has never been closer to WW3 since 1942, and you say that global was is unlikely to happen? Cmon everyone can feel the tensions going around the world. China, Russia, India and North Korea are just waiting for the clap to start war.

I think that sport is reserved for the Cuban crisis.

For both China and India , a ww3 is the worst thing that could happen , they are far more interested in economical growth and trade than war

WW3 is good if it happen on someone else soil and the export country can sell their trinkets at premium price with less competition.
532  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you really believe that Bitcoin will hit 1,000,000 on: July 04, 2014, 03:45:01 PM
Technology innovation also happen fast. If bitcoin do hit 1,000,000, it may not stay there for long as incentive is strong for someone to come up with something better.

533  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price dropping , bitstamp low @ US$619 on: July 04, 2014, 03:40:06 PM
619 is non-event. Less than 5% fluctuation.

There are a lot of good news regarding bitcoin lately. More merchants in the US are accepting it as payment. And it looks like Master Card is joining the bandwagon.
534  Economy / Speculation / Re: Winklevoss ETF will list on NASDAQ as "COIN" on: July 04, 2014, 03:36:17 PM
Only 1 million shares.   Small float = easy manipulation

Pump and dump time

Having access to wall street money, who really know how high bitcoin will go.

Yeah they'll pump it then dump it.   Leaving all retail bagholders in tears.   Seen it all the time in pennystocks

ETF's do not work like that -if more than one million shares are purchased the ETF issues new ones, and buys the bitcoin to hold against them. So if 3 million shares get bought they will issue another 2 million, the fund then buys extra bitcoin with the proceeds of the new share issuance so as be balanced. That way the value of the ETF share stays in line with the value of bitcoin and is not influenced by the supply and demand of the ETF share itself.

When shares are sold back to the ETF they retire them and sell bitcoin so as to stay balanced

So if the ETF gets huge swings in inflows and outflows then it will have a huge impact on bitcoin - unless insitutional market makers get involved in the real bitcoin market so as to smooth flows and volatility.

There are one million shares initially because the ETF  will only own 200,000 bitcoin, and each share is worth 0.2BTC. If more than one million shares get bought the ETF will have to buy bitcoin at market. If less then they may well have to sell bitcoin.

EDIT:

Lets not forget though that to be fully funded at inception or close to inception, ie all one million shares bought, this ETF needs to sell the equivalent  200,000 coins to interested parties , thats USD 130,000,000 at current prices, - and we just had a little panic about 30,000 coins going at auction.

thank you for explaining the term fund for them lol i think some people think stocks= all financial instruments.

May not be a good long term thing for bitcoin as wall street type hoard the coin rather than use it.
535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any safe haven in altcoins? on: July 04, 2014, 03:34:21 PM
People should realized by now most of the alt coin are pump and dump.

With the exception of anon coin/feature, if any developer manage to get this to work, then may be there is an untapped market for it.
536  Economy / Economics / Re: What happens when *WE* are the wealthy elite? on: July 04, 2014, 03:28:54 PM
To become the true elite, someone probably need to raise an army using their newly found wealthy to fight the existing power.

537  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Miners (Scrypt ASIC seller) independent feedback thread on: July 04, 2014, 05:21:37 AM
It would be nice if there is anyone actually answering the support ticket.

This is just for public information for anyone considering their hosting service.

I filed a support ticket on June 30th and they have not been able to resolve the issue and have not respond to me for 3-4 days.

My latest ticket included the support team, Amber, their technical lead and CEO. Will update here tomorrow if they even bother to respond after 5 days.

538  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Miners (Scrypt ASIC seller) independent feedback thread on: July 03, 2014, 05:42:21 AM
I sent a ticket into support on 6/29 about my A2 miner being down. It shows up in the UI but I can not restart it and most importantly no hashing is being reported pool side. My ticket number is 19120. I also replied to this ticket on 6/30 just to get a update or when my miner might be back up but I have gotten no response at all. I have been with GAW since before they even had a UI available but it seems there ticket turn around time is increasing.

Please PM me on Hastrader.com or email me at amber@gawminers.com

 Smiley

I will be happy to look into your order.

Please look into support ticket 19239.

Miners went down on June 30th and issues have not been resolved.

540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bulgarian Bank run could mean a big rally for Bitcoin? on: June 30, 2014, 10:08:49 AM
so it will be a push for btc?

Not necessary.

In time of crisis, it makes more sense to store daily necessity.
