201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - 4/2/2018 Now Live on: June 07, 2018, 01:02:50 AM
The DNotes market report for Tuesday, June 5, 2018

We now have two active DNotes markets: NLexch and Stocks.exchange. At this time, neither one is recognized by CoinMarkecap, so I will continue posting the information from both markets once a day so we can keep track of DNotes' price.

Those DNotes are getting more expensive. I'm still trying to buy, so have filled a few sell orders on Stocks.exchange that I thought would get snatched up quickly. My limit buy orders tend to get piled on pretty quickly.

NLexch seems to be offline at the moment, so I'll just report on Stocks.exchange today.

On Stocks.exchange the low price is 310 Satoshi and the high price is 693 Satoshi. The last price was 541 Satoshi, or 0.041559 USD. The current high bid is 505 and the low ask is 583. The 24 hour volume is 73,584.28 NOTE.
202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top 5 examples of BTC adoption on: June 06, 2018, 04:06:29 PM
I like your work, and I merited your OP in the artwork thread.

Here are some of the challenges to cryptocurrency mass adoption, and it's definitely true of Bitcoin.

1. Wallets require a certain amount of work to run and to keep secure, which is a turnoff to someone completely new getting involved. Just one example, I recently downloaded and installed the Electrum wallet on my desktop. Within two weeks of me doing that, I learned that there was a major security flaw in that particular version of Electrum and I needed to update the wallet. I don't actually stay in Bitcoin--I'm usually only passing through when I do have Bitcoin so 3rd party services and wallets work best for me--so I still need to update my Electrum wallet. My point is that after doing some work to get a desktop wallet in the first place, within a few weeks I'm back to square one because there's something wrong with the wallet and I can't use it until I update it. Most people do not have time for that. Imagine if you had to take your physical cash wallet into the shop once a month just so you could use it.

2. Online wallets can really help mitigate the above issues, but are they safe, secure, and trustworthy? Maybe they are; maybe they aren't. You have to spend as much time in due diligence on the particular 3rd party service you want to use as you would have to in setting up (and then updating and updating) your desktop wallet. And even after all that research you sill might lose your funds because suddenly your service gets "hacked" and all the coins are gone.

3. Can the cryptocurrency really scale up? That was a huge issue with Bitcoin last year and it may still be an issue. The Lightning Network is supposed to solve that, but it also takes transactions off chain, so there might be issues with that. Other coins seem to have figured out the scaling issue so on that point, it's likely Bitcoin will eventually be replaced by something else.

4. Tie in with current financial structures is not easy. Many of us who do trade back and forth between Bitcoin and fiat have figured out a system that works for us. For example, I use GDAX. But there's a learning curve, you have to link up your bank accounts, and if you're interested in any coins besides LTC, ETH, and BTC, you then have to involve another exchange like BitTrex. Each time you send BTC from one place to another, you lose on transaction fees, and you also take risks on prices fluctuating while waiting for your transaction to confirm.

5. S-L-O-W block confirm times are a real deal breaker. Who's going to wait ten or twenty minutes at the grocery store with their ice cream and meat on a hot day while the cashier is waiting for the customer's BTC deposit to confirm? A minute block confirm time is much better, but that's still not instant, and most people are used to instant when it comes to money transfers (except when it comes to ACH and international wire transfers, on those points BTC does far better than fiat).

6. Volatility is a serious issue for everyday use. Those who originally mined Bitcoin are sitting in profit no matter what the price of BTC does, but anyone who bought in late 2017 is still sitting on a significant loss. I've recently seen the price of BTC rise or fall $300 in one day, and if you're running a business with tight margins that won't work.

7. Having to keep up with everything from latest technology to exchange rates makes it really hard to just use cryptocurrency of any kind as money is used. Imagine if you had to keep up with all that stuff when it came to your national currency. Monetary development is certainly interesting but most of us really just want to use our money and be confident that we can use it again the next day without having to deal with major changes in its value, pathway, and means of storage. There are certainly those changes in our national currencies, but they tend to be slow and you have plenty of time to adjust, and for the most part the old ways still work for many years after a change. Think about how you can still write a check or pay in cash even years after debit cards have been developed, or how you can still slide your non chip credit card even in a chip card reader, etc. But with cryptocurrencies, you might go to your wallet to pay someone and find it won't work until you update it, or worse, the particular coin that you ignored for six months has now become worthless because the development team hit a snag and they all moved on.

There are some altcoins that are working to address these and other adoption issues, or at least claiming to in their ICO whitepapers. I would recommend reading up on how various legitimate groups are seeking to address these issues, because cryptocurrencies will not be widely used until these challenges get resolved for the potential casual user.

Those are some really neat paintings. Keep it up.

I'm wondering if some of the people developing alt-coins might be interested in commissioning a painting commemorating their projects.

I'm going to bookmark this thread and keep you in mind if a need like that comes up in any of the projects I'm involved with.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - 4/2/2018 Now Live on: June 06, 2018, 02:43:30 PM
Thanks wiser. This should definitely help to know on which block to expect payout. I will bookmark but I will also make one for myself just in case you decide not to keep up with it. I will following your patter and the information provided by DNotes in the previous comment. Appreciate the work you've put into the spreadsheet Wink

It took all of five minutes. You just need to enter the first (really, second) cutoff and payout blocks) and then you just add 43,200 to each one to get the next blocks.
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - 4/2/2018 Now Live on: June 06, 2018, 02:24:45 PM
Here's another URL to bookmark: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-2YSW6TYGaonbuFbIN7N61J9muuaPBV0Xuevz-1URqU/edit?usp=sharing

This is a spreadsheet I worked up which shows the cutoff and payout blocks for the next 200 periods or so. I've highlighted the first cutoff block in blue because we've reached it and the idea is I'll highlight the ones we've reached, but I'm making no guarantees that I'll actually keep up with it. But at any time you can look up the block we're on, and see how how many blocks we are away from the next cutoff or payout.

206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - 4/2/2018 Now Live on: June 06, 2018, 02:10:08 PM
Thanks wiser. This is very helpful. Do you perhaps have a link where we can check the blocks in real time? Also, when payout is reached will the blocks reset to zero or will they continue? Appreciate the feedback Smiley

Here is where you can check the blocks in real time: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/note/

As an aside, if you wanted to check your address balance without opening up your wallet, simply enter your address in the search bar.

No, they will not reset once payout is reached. They'll just keep counting up into infinity. The only situation I know about where blocks get reset to zero is in a major upgrade such as when DNotes upgraded to version 2.0.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinTracking - Profit/Loss Portfolio and Tax Reporting for Digital Currencies on: June 06, 2018, 02:05:37 PM
I have a feature request (or I need instructions on how to use it if already part of the program): I need to be able to manually enter some historical prices for a particular coin I have (and override the default historical prices). The reason is that a coin I'm invested in recently upgraded to its 2.0 version, and that process required delisting on exchanges of the old version followed by relisting of the new version. The one exchange we had that was being tracked on CoinMarketcap (or whatever you are using as the price tracker) dropped us in that process, and the exchanges the coin is now listed on aren't currently being tracked, and the price that is showing on my dashboard is completely wrong. So I've been keeping track of the daily price, and I'd like to be able to enter that price so I can see what my portfolio is really worth. Is there a way to do that? If not, can it please be added? It will make my tax reporting so much easier if I could handle this within the program itself.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - 4/2/2018 Now Live on: June 06, 2018, 01:54:35 PM
This is the post I was referring to about the CRISP payouts. We are currently on block 90,625, which means the cutoff has been reached but the payout block hasn't yet. So hang in there, everyone!

Hi Amadeus, block 86400 will be the cutoff and block 96480 will be payout. We are currently at block, 79081, so getting close, but the estimate is less than 2 weeks. The CRISP payments will show up in your DNotesVault account immediately after the payout is complete. The payout, as of now, should complete within 1 block, but in the future it could take multiple blocks to complete. Will update the estimates in the FAQ's.
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 06, 2018, 01:43:39 PM
It's interesting reading about the perception that NEM is kind of aimlessly drifting along, despite the numerous headlines posted to the Telegram news channel and the many videos that come out about NEM's various features almost weekly, some of which are official marketing channels. I wonder if what's lacking is something that ties it all together? Possibly redundant messaging?

I definitely see both sides. The marketing is definitely there... and yet, the feeling that it's not there is very real too. And the price seems to be stuck at 25 cents now no matter what Bitcoin does, which is also interesting.

Hi DNotes. I just wanted to find out what's happening with the staking rewards for this month. According to last months notice we were suppose to receive staking rewards on the 4 June already. Please let us know if everything is still smooth sailing on your end with regards to staking rewards. Please help with some + merit if you found my comment useful Wink

The rewards are tied to specific block numbers, which haven't been reached yet. May 27th was an estimate only. To find out which specific blocks, please go back a few pages where it was posted, or maybe Joe will post it again to make it easier.
211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Walking the plank - the hunt for posts to award with merits. on: June 06, 2018, 02:26:41 AM
I think your reports would be useful, actually. I'm not nearly as busy on this forum as you are, but somehow I seem to have run into all the same repetitive posts you have, including the Newbies sadness thread, which is pretty ridiculous.

The part I found most interesting in your report was that you consider technical support posts to be merit-worthy, both for the person seeking support and the person granting support.

I'd be interested in seeing what other merit-worthy posts you encounter. Personally I tend to figure that if the post contributes something useful, even if it's putting old information into a different format, then it's merit-worthy. But statistically, there aren't that many posts like that. A lot more people begging for merit and such, which I find tiresome.

I should also mention... that if people openly share a story about how they were scammed and what they learned from the experience, I will often award some merit to that, at least to counter all the know-it-alls who insist on piling on about what an idiot they were to fall for it in the first place. Soft spot, pet peeve. So yeah, if I ever were to become a merit source, that would be one way to get merit out of me LOL.

ctya, congratulations on the 2nd exchange. Here is another one to check out: https://stocks.exchange/

I would especially love to have DVC listed there because two of my other coins are also listed.

The DNotes market report for Tuesday, June 5, 2018

We now have two active DNotes markets: NLexch and Stocks.exchange. At this time, neither one is recognized by CoinMarkecap, so I will continue posting the information from both markets once a day so we can keep track of DNotes' price.

The additional market has done good things for DNotes' price. Full disclosure: after taking a look at the Stocks.exchange DNotes market I bought up everything on NLexch up to 700 Satoshi until I ran out of BTC. And now 700 Satoshi looks like the cheap price.

On NLexch, the low price was 375 Satoshi and the high price was 750 Satoshi. The last price was 750, or 0.057136 USD. The current high bid is 400 and low ask is 798. The 24 hour volume is 75,202.44 NOTE.

On Stocks.exchange the low price is 300 Satoshi and the high price is 13,750 Satoshi (chalk that high up to this being a brand new market). The last price was 729 Satoshi, or 0.055536 USD. The current high bid is 671 and the low ask is 932. The 24 hour volume is 30,278.37 NOTE.

It can't hurt to open a support ticket with Coinomi. That seems simple enough.

With Ledger it sounds like we'd have to build some of that integration ourselves, so it's a matter of someone knowing how to do it.

I'd say go for it.
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you mean when you say Bitcoin is number 1 on: June 04, 2018, 11:32:16 PM
We are entering an era of multiple digital currencies, and many of them will survive. Bitcoin is certain to be one of them, but it can't be number one for every factor. Where do you think Bitcoin will stay as number 1

  • Store of value
  • Services in addition to simple money transfer
  • Convenience
  • Security
  • Investment/speculation
  • Safe transfer speed
  • Privacy
  • Freedom from globalist control
  • Other

Bitcoin is currently number one in terms of marketcap, and that will probably be the case for another couple years. I don't think it even makes the top ten in any of the categories you mention.

Store of value: no way, not with all the volatility in the market. Early adopters are OK, and I suppose anyone who buys now and holds for five years will probably be OK, but anyone who bought at the end of 2017 is probably not doing so great today.

Services: Thanks to Coinbase/GDAX, I can trade back and forth between BTC and Fiat. But I can now do that with other coins too. Once I can do that with a coin that is actually positioned for mainstream adoption, that won't be such an advantage for BTC anymore.

Convenience: Well, if you call having to wait an hour for a deposit to clear "convenient," then I guess we're good. It's better than waiting on an ACH to clear your bank, but there are other coins that provide minute-long or even seconds long confirm times.

Investment speculation: Bitcoin loses even on that. In 2017 any early adopters of NEM who sold all at the end of the year would have realized a ROI of over 14,000 percent. DMD Diamond enjoyed better gains in 2017 than BTC did, and those are just two coins.

Privacy: That's a joke. It's even easier to track Bitcoin flow from addresses of interest because it's all on the blockchain. Detectives who know what to look for are getting quite good at this.

Freedom from Globalist control: That's a good one. But if even half of what is exposed in this article is true, then the up and coming elites, those who might replace the current crop of Globalist Elites, are an even worse bunch of sorry human beings with little to no conscience. No thanks, I'll keep the central banks for now, thank you. At least the current crop of elites is restrained somewhat by having to maintain the appearance of propriety. The up and coming Bitcoin elites, not so much.

Other: Bitcoin as a gateway into the entire cryptocurrency industry provided people with additional financial options and financial hope. Bitcoin currently is the main gateway into that world and as long as it holds this position it has done a good job. If Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general can remain as opportunities for more people to engage with and profit from the world of finance, especially people who cannot benefit so much from the fiat world of finance, then it will have accomplished much good. I hope the doors that I have been able to walk through in the cryptocurrency space remain open to lots of people just like me for years to come.
216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto ICO's are killing Bitcoin. on: June 04, 2018, 11:06:16 PM
I don't think ICOs can directly kill Bitcoin. However, since many ICOs have turned out to be scams or bad investments in projects which ultimately couldn't deliver, the reputation of the entire cryptocurrency industry gets tainted and many people who might have otherwise gotten involved choose not to because of that reputation. Jaded investors who have been fleeced in ICOs may also leave the space entirely. I don't know if anyone has ever quantified that, but I imagine those losses are not insignificant.

It's very likely, however, that Bitcoin will eventually be replaced by one or more altcoins that deliver some features that users and potential users want and need but which Bitcoin Core will not deliver (for whatever reason--think back to the big block size debate of last year where ultimately nothing was done). Here are just some features Bitcoin lacks that are necessary for mainstream adoption: ability to put lots of transactions into a single block, fast confirm time (ten minutes per block is too long for most people), seamless integration with traditional financial structure, less waste of electricity just to maintain the network, debit cards that actually work like debit cards, ability to participate in a fully legally compliant way, and the list goes on and on. There are a number of altcoins working on various aspects of this and at least one altcoin that is addressing all of this. It's not a matter of if Bitcoin will be replaced as the digital currency of choice for the majority, but when.

Thanks to all for the great feedback to my post concerning Steemit. The sensible solution then is to follow develCuy's suggestions (as well as a non-confrontational approach suggested by UTB) and move our @devcoin witness up in the fish tank of steem. Once with a better presence and following we might reconsider pushing some of the code changes to help the community grow into a more fairly distributed reward system. Expect more involvement on my part, develCuy.

Just have to mention a small bragging point; Roger Ver ( @rogerkver ) upvoted one of my steemit comments.  Grin

- Nova

[Edit : Forgot that some may get upset with the mention of that name around here? My apologies in advance. Smiley ]

That sounds like a sensible approach. I'd be willing to involve myself at some point in the sense that I can follow the trail and use the tag. Once you have the details worked out, please post the procedure for getting connected up again, and I'll bookmark it for when I'm ready.

Congratz on getting an upvote from Roger Ver. Whatever you think of him, he's famous in our industry, so getting an upvote from him is cool. Kind of like getting to meet the President of the US would be a cool experience even if you voted for the other guy.

The DNotes market report for Monday, June 4, 2018

Since CoinMarketcap does not recognize any active DNotes markets, and our only market right now is NLexch (not recognized by CMC), I am reporting what's going on with that market once a day so that we can all be apprised of the current market price for DNotes.

I'm also participating as a buyer trying to accumulate more DNotes with minimal impact on the market. My strategy is to place limit buy orders and only buy the sell side when I see an order that is significantly lower than the next ask price until the gap between bid and ask closes. However...

After posting yesterday's market report, wiser went shopping--I bought up everything up to 290 Satoshi and have been doing that as I get the chance. I consider any DNotes under 300 Satoshi to be too good a deal to pass up.

Today the low price was 220 Satoshi and the high price was 291 Satoshi with the last price being 290 Satoshi, or 0.021969  USD.

The 24 hour volume is 37,008.52 NOTE. The current highest bid is 227 and lowest ask is 375.
