1041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: April 06, 2016, 07:22:00 PM
By the way, I logged into my Vircurex account and cannot find any notice of delisting DVC or not supporting DVC deposits anywhere. Where is that notice located?

Edit: Never mind. I can find the announcement by clicking on the link that was posted here. However, that's not a page I normally see when I'm using my Vircurex account, so I didn't find it through the normal course of clicking around the site. Maybe I'm just missing something. I notice below that an announcement about Feathercoin and how they extended the deadline for withdrawing coins. Perhaps we can all request that they provide at least some period of time where the wallets are still online so that people can at least withdraw their funds. I mean, I don't think it's fair to immediately cause a wallet to not work. And anyway, what happens to funds that did get sent? Does Vircurex just keep them?

And my Safecex deposit is showing as pending and almost cleared, so all good there Smiley I guess we're all going to be moving our business there now, especially with whatever is going on with Bter.

Yup, the wallet just came back online. I'm waiting to see my deposit. Hopefully that will happen soon.

Safecex It keeps working for me:

https://safecex.com/ works like a charm, tested it the other day. Deposits, exchange and withdrawal worked well, so moving all my money away from Vircurex immediately.

It would have sure been nice if Vircurex had placed their notice on their front page, and given some lead time where the wallet would still work for a few days. I just sent them some DVC not realizing this. Fortunately it was a small amount, but still, annoying.

As for the Safecex DVC wallet, it is currently offline. I made a much larger deposit there, because it had worked very well for me in the past. THEN I saw the notice on the deposit page! I've put in a support ticket and hope those DVC aren't entirely lost, and that they do put their wallet back online--at least long enough for people to withdraw funds if they decide to completely delist the coin.

Chase, that is an outstanding article with some very practical advice.  I am frankly surprised that high school students’ financial literacy is only 18%. Perhaps DNotes can help play a role in the future to help change that. CRISP for Children and CRISP for Students are indeed designed for the purpose. Our next step is to start generation revenue to fund worthy projects and that is partly what the book is about.

Thanks Alan. It is hard to believe that someone can graduate from high school with straight A's and still be financially illiterate.

I think I may have been one of those unfortunate souls. Straight A's (or close). Little to no financial literacy. I've sure learned a lot since then.

Dyna, glad to hear (from another post) that you will be incorporating in the US. Sounds like a wise decision.

I try to stay neutral in my opinion of other coins, but this one has always looked sketchy. They have been on the radar of numerous authorities, but somehow still operating. Do they have to collapse with everyone's money, before something is finally done?

I've never heard of them Is OneCoin a kind of "company" or is it an actual digital coin? I wasn't able to get a sense of exactly what they are luring people into from the article.

Has anyone ever had a DMD withdrawal from BitTrex which took more than a few minutes to hit the wallet after confirming by email? I have a withdraw request which has processed 20 minutes ago but I'm still not seeing it on the Explorer or my wallet. Is this kind of delay normal?

Update: So as soon as I post this, the tx shows up Smiley Never mind...

Thank you, Wiser, for an exceptional post and your kind words. We take it as a privilege that our community has been very supportive of our efforts and will likely be very supportive of major technical  improvement to DNotes in the future. However, we are mindful that to preserve the great value of a totally decentralized system we should not take any thing for granted. Ideally, we want to make one major change with a long wish list, to be equal to or better than anyone else. We are committed to be best in class. Our community may start coming up with a wish list. We expect to kick into high gear in development the second half of this year.

If I could have a wish about one thing to change about DNotes, I would want it to be a minting coin, and I would also want there to be opportunities to mint it online via a trusted third party (something like Coinwallet.co) but also have a very well functioning desktop wallet that can also mint it. The DNotes vault currently functions a bit like a minting wallet in the sense that you can gain "interest" on a deposit, but you have to tie up your funds for a long time in order to do that. I would like to see an option where your coins can work for you but with no other strings attached (such as needing to tie them up). I think in this way, even a very small holder can have a stash that grows. Of all the minting coins I have worked with I have to say that Diamond coin does it the best, so if this idea is ever seriously considered I would recommend studying up on how Diamond does it. I can put anyone in touch with the lead developer.

That is a very interesting question, actually. I know that NEM (which for all practical purposes was a completely premined coin--all the coins got put into circulation at once through the Genesis block--allocated a certain amount of coin to reward node operators. Of course, there's really no mining, so there wouldn't be competition with miners. I don't know what kind of plan is in place for NEM node operators once the original allocated funds run out, but it's possible that isn't for many years, depending on how much was set aside.

I believe in principle it is a good idea to figure out a way to compensate anyone who is involved in securing the network in some way. The problem with Bitcoin is that this wasn't thought about right from the beginning (OK, the mining was, but not the nodes), and because of the current leadership politics, it's very hard to actually make any changes that could add it into the code after the fact. I mean, the Bitcoin people are having a difficult enough time deciding on how to enlarge the block size to handle increasing transactions.

DNotes wouldn't have this issue, because there is a "the buck stops here" actual leadership team. I'm pretty sure that if Alan in six months were to decide to turn DNotes into an X11 minting coin which kicked off both mining rewards and minting rewards, and had a special increased minting reward for node operators, and he was able to convince the DNotes core team that this is a good development, and then keep those of us who follow this thread duly informed and seek out our feedback, then I'm sure it would happen with little or no fuss. This is not a suggestion, by the way, just a random example off the top of my head Smiley

For an example of a coin which changed its algorithm midway, Diamond is a good example. I believe it began as a Scrypt coin, then switched to Groestl. I'm not sure of the reasons. It's also a dual mining/minting coin, and the core team recently held an auction for ten special addresses which will mint at an increased rate. The coin Neucoin recently made a decision to destroy half of its current coin supply (the part held by board members and initial investors, not coins in general use), and reduce its timeline for general distribution by a number of years. The reasons for this decision had to do with how the core team saw the coin being adopted as well as feedback from the community.

So I know all of this is technically possible.

My point is that from a technical point of view, Bitcoin could alter its code in order to continue to fairly compensate miners and also reward node operators. It could decide to increase its total supply (not cap it at 21 million). It could even code in a way where "lost" Bitcoins get recovered in some way (you know, those Bitcoins lost because someone wiped their hard drive and didn't retain private keys to the wallets). Those recovered Bitcoins could be used to provide rewards to node operators, or even add to the mining rewards. I mean, the sky is the limit as to what could be accomplished. But since Bitcoin is so widespread and basically developed as a leaderless currency, it's going to be very difficult to make even minute changes to the protocol because there will rarely if ever be sufficient consensus to allow any changes to get implemented.

On the other hand, with a currency such as DNotes, which has a leadership team which is willing and able to make unilateral decisions, it's not going to be technical difficulty that limits what can be accomplished. It's really a matter of the leadership clearly communicating the vision, seeking feedback from the community when needed, sticking to its vision, and not making hasty decisions about drastic changes, and then when changes are necessary, clearly communicating the reasons and the path forward so that all can easily adjust and get on board.

I thought this article was interesting and a good topic of discussion.  Proposal To Give 45% of Block Reward To Bitcoin Node Operators Is Silly

At this point, there are over 6,000 Bitcoin nodes in existence, and none of these operators are getting paid for doing so. No one is complaining about that either, even though some people might prefer to have some monetary incentive attached to being a Bitcoin node operator.

For some unknown reason, people in the Bitcoin community assume these people should get paid for supporting the network. While there may be a certain logic behind that idea, it is not feasible in the Bitcoin world by any means. Bitcoin nodes help broadcast transactions to miners, but they are not producing any proof-of-work to make this happen.

That does not mean running a Bitcoin node is free of charge, though, as the computer used will need electricity, and there will be a slight strain on computer resources such as the CPU and hard disk speed. Should users be compensated for voluntarily dedicating a part of their resources to securing the Bitcoin network? Probably not.

One user on Reddit posted how it would be an interesting idea to change the Bitcoin protocol and reward node owners with 45% of the current block reward. That would mean that miners, who spend a lot of money to generate blocks on the network, would close to half of their earnings in favor of people who voluntarily run a bitcoin wallet on a device. While such a solution can easily be opened up to the general public, there will be a significant backlash from Bitcoin miners to this idea.

It’d be good if there were a way to incentivize people running a Bitcoin Node, but such a situation would only bring more centralization to the ecosystem. Nothing would stop a collective of individuals to deploy thousands of Bitcoin nodes and take the lion share of the reward for themselves, rendering the entire point of incentivizing node owners completely moot.

What do you think? This article focuses on one side of the story, and I think there is much more to it. As the article keeps mentioning, incentivizing the nodes will lead to centralization, but is it also possible not incentivizing the nodes could lead to centralization as well? Node operators are undoubtedly performing a critical task for the network, while it's also true miners are doing the work of solving hashes, without those nodes the miners would have much more problems such as latency and potentially working on blocks that are already solved. As the blockchain continues to grow, it will become more burdensome and less attractive to run a node.

Hey, is this thread still alive? Is Aricoin still alive?

I attempted to make a deposit of Aricoin to my Aricoin Pay wallet, and it has not shown up. Did I make a mistake? Is the wallet no longer synced with the block chain?

I have a small suggestion for the new wallet: Can it include a total balance (which would add confirmed, unconfirmed, and minted balance in real time)? Right now when it mints, I have to wait 200 confirmations to know what the new total is. It would be nice to know what the total is right at the beginning. There could also be an available balance.

to be honest i use chainz for such stuff and not the wallet
but we hear ur feedback and add it to possible changes list
just priority if not many more have a demand for this will be low

That's OK. The wallet works very well without that change. It would add a minor bit of convenience. If it's an easy one to do, then please do it; if too complicated, then I understand it's going to be low on priority list. Thanks for the consideration Smiley

I'm looking forward to hearing more about the recent decision to in some way use the NEM ecosystem for DMD and understanding what that will mean. I will say one thing: I do find the NEM community client to be less user friendly than the DMD client, so I do hope we get to keep the DMD client. From what I've heard, though, the NEM backbone is a technological marvel (which I don't well understand). I am an investor in NEM but I have to admit I sold a few recently (taking advantage of the recent price spike) and bought some DMD with it--I got to buy most of them at BitTrex' 24 hour low Smiley Let's hope this development adds considerable value to both NEM and DMD Smiley

IndiaMikeZulu here. Just popping in to say 'Hi.' Was checkin' some Youtube stuff -- Coinmarketcap in December 2013. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6vd5cap9Jk

How interesting: DMD at Nos 44, with a market cap a little less than today. Nice.

IMZ, welcome to this thread. DMD is another really awesome coin Smiley

Devtome is broken again Sad

User profiles are blocked, for example:

http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=wiki:user:fheenix

This breaks invoicing! Look at http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/ fetch round 56, only 91 shares sent and round 57 just started! Devtome shares are 0, pretty odd.

Is there anything you need help with to fix this issue, please let us know.

I just noticed this too. I went on DVCcountdown to check my final count for round 56 as I'd contributed some content, and found that all my content shares are gone.

I was hoping to post some more content on the Devtome tomorrow, so it would be nice to be able to invoice for that content as well... and have it show up on the DVCcountdown.

What are the chances of this being repaired before round 56 begins paying out, which is in around 16 days?

its about time this coin gets listed on bittrex or poloniex

I would LOVE that Smiley

Poloniex has a new coin request form, which the developers should definitely fill out. Anyone can, actually, but Polo should get at least one request from development team.

Not sure on BitTrex' process but they probably have one.

Just an update on my situation: I did get a couple emails from Ronny Boesing, CEO of CCEDK. He said that he will work on trouble shooting the issue with Fimk transactions on Monday. I'm guessing based on what's said here that it's a matter of updating the CCEDK wallets, and that once that happens all deposits made to CCEDK wallets should show up. I'm not sure about withdrawals, though, if they were done on a fork, what happens to those. Hopefully by Tuesday everything there will be running smoothly.

And now, my 1,970,039 FIM are lost???

If you have send your FIM to an account which belongs to CCEDK then they can access it which I don't believe counts as lost.

I agree with quasimodo. It is the responsibility of the developers to keep exchanges informed about updates!

AFAIK FIMK is the only crypto currency that actively prevents exchanges and merchants from ever landing on a fork because of a missed update.

See

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=633304.msg13640010#msg13640010

and

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=633304.msg13707939#msg13707939

That's great, but I still can't see my recent deposit in my CCEDK account. I did send them a message referring them to Eliphaz Fimk's message about the recent update, but I honestly believe they will pay more attention if an actual developer contacts them. Can someone from the development team please do so? I'd sure appreciate it.
1059  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] New Piggycoin [PIGGY] | 3% interest | Web PiggyBank | Android PiggyBank on: February 12, 2016, 07:16:03 PM
A very nice staking online wallet/bank and Twitter tipbot from coinwallet.co!  https://www.coinwallet.co/en/currency/PIGGY

They also have a function where you can pay to e-mail addresses!

(As coinwallet.co themselves tell users, please don't keep all your PIGGY there if you have a lot. — Store the majority of your coins in your own Paper or Desktop PiggyBank, where you have direct control over the private keys.)

Since my QT wallet doesn't work anymore, I'd love to transfer my coins there and at least get something out of them. Does anyone know how I would go about extracting private keys from the wallet.dat file?

Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that part if your PiggyBank crashes on startup.  I'll wait for neurocis to respond.

Based on Neurocis' email suggestion, I'm currently resyncing the block chain and the wallet seems to be working alright for that. I'm just worried it will blow up when I get to the point in the chain where it blew up before. But maybe it won't Smiley If I do manage to get it synced and working, I may just send over my coins to CoinWallet. Sometimes online wallets end up being less trouble... but you do have to make the decision to trust 'em.
1060  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FIMKrypto: NXT spinoff 30s blocks, POW-like rewards, national income *FIMK on: February 12, 2016, 06:25:52 PM
I think it is your responsibility to inform the exchange about mandatory updates.  Huh
0.6.4 is not mandatory as such, meaning if a node has up to date blockchain then existing 0.6.3 and 0.6.2 should still work fine. I don't have direct channel to Ronny,  someone already in contact for support case could mention the available update for faster resolution of CCEDK's trouble.

I agree with quasimodo. It is the responsibility of the developers to keep exchanges informed about updates!
