361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the end is near.... on: June 09, 2011, 06:21:16 PM
So uh, how do they plan to shut down Bitcoin?
362  Economy / Economics / Re: I want you to have a look at this graph on: June 09, 2011, 05:16:29 PM

Sigh, look at the x axis. My graph started on July 2010, yours started at the beginning of 2011.
Herp derp, setting different graph parameteres on bitcoincharts...

My argument still stands.

And not to mention that the scale of your graph is completely off.

The distance between $20 and $50 is the same as between $0.2 and $0.5.

Nice try.
363  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Did a Linux live CD ever happen? I'd buy that for a Bitcoin. on: June 09, 2011, 05:12:14 PM
Just download any distro, most of them have a run from CD option.

I had clearly given him the answer, why did you bump a old topic...

Lol, like you didn't bump an old thread either.

365  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Pool] SIMPLECOIN.US (0% fee, Cheat-proof, Inst/Auto Pay, LP, JSON, Opensource) on: June 09, 2011, 01:47:00 PM
So throughput according to my simplecoin account is drastically either:

A. Underaccounted by the pool itself

or

B. Underreported by the accounting software.

POCLBM console never dips below 375 Mhps.

Simplecoin.us first update showed 315 Mhps. Second update showed 301 Mhps.

Aggregate Ghps for pool also seems to fluctuate wildly, although in a small pool, that seems not unreasonable..

SC, what's the deal here?
Hash rate is not direct from your miner, rather it accounts for the number of valid shares, over a given amount of time. Some shares take longer to hash out. So this is reflected in your MH/s!

But the number of hashes my GPU computes per second is a fixed (essentially) number, regardless of how long the share takes to hash. 1 second or one century, my 5870 outputs ~380 Mhps...

What am I missing here?

Your hash rate is estimated.

If you are accepting shares faster in a given period of time, it will assume your hash rate is higher. Likewise if you are accepting shares slower it will assume it is lower.
366  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [POOL] [BETA] SimplyBTC.com Mining Pool [2% fee, JSON-API, LP, USA-Dedi] on: June 09, 2011, 05:09:06 AM
I'm contributing 1 GH/s to the pool right now, but I'm currently mining for another pool. So I'll stop for 1-2 days...once that pool finds another block I will switch over to this one.

I'll be back on Thursday.

Is the cookie tied to my external or internal IP?

external (I think!)

Interesting, both my phone and PC are connected to the same network (same external IP) yet I can only have one logged in at a time.
368  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Pool] SIMPLECOIN.US (0% fee, Cheat-proof, Inst/Auto Pay, LP, JSON, Opensource) on: June 09, 2011, 04:54:10 AM
SC, can you enable having the same user logged in from multiple computers? I like to be able to see stats on my phone when I'm away and also at my rig when I'm using it.

unfortunately no. the security in place ties your cookie to your ip to prevent someone spoofing your account.

However, you can monitor your account using the json api. that won't affect your login.

Ok, thanks. The one thing about the JSON API is that it doesn't show the est. earnings and round shares (the two things that I look at)

Is the cookie tied to my external or internal IP?

What reward system does the pool use?

Hey guys slightly off topic but I have to voice it somewhere.

Whats with the haters???

Anyone here a regular on OCN (Overclock.net), my god they won't even let you talk about bitcoin on there forums. I just pissed a moderator off big time just asking why?Huh

I don't get it!! It's not like this is illegal or even shady in any way at all!!

Anyways that's my rant thanks!!

This!!!
My goodness, the OCN mods are so anal.
372  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 3 gpu psu? on: June 08, 2011, 10:14:54 PM
You can't crossfire cards from two different generations. Furthermore...they are two completely different architectures.
373  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Pool] SIMPLECOIN.US (0% fee, Cheat-proof, Instant Pay, LP, JSON, Opensource!) on: June 08, 2011, 10:13:35 PM
My processing speed keeps pretty constant between 62,000-66,000 khash/s, but on my account page the hashrate is showing as between 40-50 MH/s. Is there a problem with the calculation or is there something else i'm not taking into account?

The hash rate is estimated based on the number of valid shares you submit relative to others.
374  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 3x5850 PSU on: June 08, 2011, 10:11:51 PM
Yes a 650w would suffice, though personally I would go with at least 700w just because I'm OCD.
375  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: If you own a single 6970 and you are using the GUI Miner please do me a favor on: June 08, 2011, 10:09:24 PM
If you're wondering if your device should be labelled as Cypress, no, it should not. 69xx series are part of the Northern Islands architecture, I believe 6970s are caymans.

If you're wondering about device #, that varies by computer, device 0 happens often, sometimes device 1 happens.

You don't really need to ask in such a cryptic way.

So it should be something along the lines of:

Device:
  • Cayman

Your chart is obviously wrong, use the correct version next time...

377  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin down to 25 on: June 08, 2011, 09:12:18 PM
Not really, I mean less than 24 hours ago is was $23. I would presume that it would get back up to $30 within a few days. Or it might be $1 again, who knows. It could be the beginning of a crash.
378  Economy / Economics / Re: I want you to have a look at this graph on: June 08, 2011, 08:18:59 PM
Oil has never crashed before?

There's a "little bit" missing on that graph... 2004-2011. Get the data and prepare to be scared/amazed!

Also on the BTC picture there are 2 weeks missing - it would extend now up to ~30 USD. Wink

That would just make it look even more dangerous.
379  Economy / Economics / Re: I want you to have a look at this graph on: June 08, 2011, 08:05:37 PM
but you havnt made a point, other commodities havnt crashed? yes it might lower and level out, but i doubt itll ever see single dollar figures again, if not for a while at least. just because theres a sharp increase doesnt mean a sharp decrease. Remember the relative number of users isnt that high compared to global population, as it picks up more and more you'll see that the price will just keep going up, yes some big players will sell off but i doubt itll crash

Are you agreeing with me or disagreeing? That's exactly what I'm saying. Other commodities have crashed in similar patterns.
380  Economy / Economics / Re: I want you to have a look at this graph on: June 08, 2011, 07:51:12 PM
Exactly, that's the point I'm trying to make. It's going to crash.
