101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 25, 2013, 08:19:58 PM
I was making a hasted decision when ordering and paying before.

Please cancel order #548
Please accept orders #728, #729, #730, #731, #732 as replacements.

I have already paid order #548 to the amount of €2,132.48
I have this time around entered my VAT number (I run Bitcoincommodities.com, VAT number is DE279330777).
However, at checkout I still had VAT included. I placed the orders anyways.
Please send me new invoices for the new orders without VAT.

If you want to refund the total amount for order #548 and want me to make new payments, I would agree.
I would also agree to only refuding the left-over after the recalculation for the total of all orders regarding VAT.

I am terribly, terribly sorry for messing this up.
I was eagerly awaiting the opening of your store, which didn't work out as planned, and when I next had the opportunity to place my orders it was after a full day of brewing (and, of course, tasting!) very, very smooth beer at a local brewery.

It's all my fault.
I hope you can still manage to help me out, here.

Use contact form from burnin's web site, he is rather fast to reply and fix things up.

I think you misunderstood him.

Looks like he did

The BitBurners are USB 2.0 High Speed (12Mbit) devices.
I just hope RPi burnin is selling in his webshop is compatible.
That RPi is just the Standard model-B, does not include any software at all.
But i had my prototype working with one, but i'd need to look up what distro i had on there, not shure atm.

It would be rather strange anyone using/producing and applying old/ancient USB standard with newly made IT type of device. Smiley
I thought that was not only USB1.1 port compatibility issue, but I am no expert.

Worse is that you can't access your money, and time is crucial for BTC projects.
If I can offer piece of advice to burnin; I would remove PayPal payment option, refund those who paid with it already and advise them to use BTC or bank wire transfer as payment method.

You guys don't think like a business manager and it is crazy to see how flustered everyone gets. By doing this I would imagine he would lose at least 25% of his sales volume. I know I wouldn't have been able to order my miners if this was the case. Not everyone is in the EU to do a bank wire and buying bitcoin in volume is still not easy and sometimes means a loss of 5% or more. Also anyone that wanted to buy would a credit card would not have been able to order from him. I think he is smart and has diversified his incoming funds. Adding more options would be even better, like setting up a cc merchant account. He can always withdraw the funds from paypal as they come in to reduce any risk of his funds being on hold due to an audit. Even in the small chance that did happen, it is easy to keep the account balance low and he would minimize his risk.

I am not in EU and can use bank wire. Do you have banks in your country?
Various payment options exists so you could chose, and if you want it you will find a way.
I don't think anyone doubted in burnin's intelligence.
Looks like you don't know when merchant can and when can't withdraw money. He can't touch it next 45 days when they arrive in his PP account, and if frozen next who-knows-how-many-days-or-months (someone correct me if I am wrong).

We support the hardware coz we have the hardware ...

Edit: oh and in case anyone was thinking of using an RPi (like I have and do use) make sure you use Arch not Raspbian
http://www.kano-kun.net/?p=87
Raspbian fails badly with USB1.1 devices.
Thanks for the clear tutorial for RPi - would have saved me a lot of time if I knew about it before!  I will check out Arch but I've actually been using stock Raspian with my CM1s and have no problems at all.

Unfortunately though due to this "unless you give us free hardware" policy I can no longer use cgminer with my CM1s so have had to switch camps to the BFGminer which remains open and cooperative with any hardware manufacturer.  I understand that you want to test hardware directly but many people have offered to debug, provide you whatever info you need, and even provide remote access to systems with miners - yet it seems you actually just want free hardware Sad  If that's your commercial model, then I get it - just wish I knew upfront before buying into cgminer.

CGMiner used to work like a dream, then they rewrote the USB stack and broke it (but is much more efficient for those it works for) - and now won't fix it because nobody gave kano a free CM1.  Cautionary tale  - other miners are available  ;-)

It makes me sick seeing someone want something for free and not giving anything in return, over and over again.
Wanting something in return for your work and support on other hand is fine by me knowing that probably 1% or even less of those using cgminer ever sent even satoshi as tip for those guys work.

Imagine burnin left us choice to pay or take bitburner's xx for free. How many would pay? I guess not many and even less if they could stay anonymous. Try walking in other people shoes from time to time.

I just hope RPi burnin is selling in his webshop is compatible.

Since Burnin is not selling the boards on ebay, i don't know, if this will affect him, but i definitely don't hope so.

TerraHash (another DIY project) had real problems with PayPal, so I would avoid it even it is most convenient for me to use it.
Either way being seller or buyer I would avoid it or this might happen.

June 19th - TerraHash's PayPal account is on hold due to large influx of funds yesterday.

Now when they investigate it will be bye bye PayPal.

This risk seems very legit. Yesterday i have read of someone whos paypal account was blocked because he sold "bitcoin mining machines" on ebay. Its specifically named now that its not allowed in paypal's rules. An account that is closed forever means that the money inside can only taken out after 6 months because paypal wants to ensure that nobody claims refunds.
So pp turned into an even higher risk now.

Worse is that you can't access your money, and time is crucial for BTC projects.

@zefir,
and how it ended up with declaring chips? Was there an Invoice of some sort? What about customs?

There is a pro-forma invoice included with a very low price tag. If accepted, there will be no VAT but only custom handling fees to pay.

I'll know for sure when I get the invoice from DHL within a week or so.

Thanks for reply Smiley
108  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: July 24, 2013, 09:10:25 AM
How will shipping be handled when we finalized the shipping address and chips arrived?
I mean paying for shipping etc.?

Since I have no information on how the chips are declared and therefore do not know what additional costs (VAT, customs, handling, etc.) to expect, I'll ship first and ask for payment later.

For reference, prices for sending parcels through SwissPost are listed here (rate: 1CHF ~ 1.07USD). I'll try to lower those costs by sending from EU, otherwise the prices listed there for Urgent parcels (handled through TNT global) are the worst case shipping costs to expect.

I am very interested to see how this will turn out regarding additional costs.

Chips.

Got them delivered in the afternoon, too late for immediate re-shipment.

Package contains 4 smaller packages with 3x sealed ESD bag with 2600 chips each + 1x opened ESD bag with 2200 chips.

I was hoping to get them in reels and be able to cut them easily in smaller portions. With the 26x10 QFN48 trays they are delivered in, distribution becomes difficult. I tried hard to get empty reels to split them in smaller chunks, but could not find a distributor for low volumes. Now I'll have to ship them in small ESD bags - like I did with the samples.

It will be a long night for me to re-pack everything for distribution, hopefully ready in the morning to drive to Germany for shipping.

Cheers

109  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 24, 2013, 09:00:37 AM
So it's adding VAT to US orders as well?

its what looks like a bug on the first page, once you select shipping and location and go to the final page u see the vat is removed, but your still paying anywhere from 50 to 100 euro to get something shipped to the US, which seems quite expensive to me..

Can't be bug if you didn't select your country. Once selected it works, right?
€100 for US delivery isn't expensive when same price and even more is for European deliveries (reff: 15 boards delivery).

I am in doubt of using PayPal with this one.  Somewhere I seen and I think it is Terahash thread, major problems with PayPal.
My best guess is that safest way for making payment to burnin is wire transfer. Your thoughts?

I avoid paypal where i can. Mostly because these ... killed my account. Smiley I only use it when there is no other way.
You are fine with wire transfer. It doesnt matter when the money comes in but when you ordered at the shop. Burnin decided this way to promote wire.

Wire transfer is probably better for burnin also, because of PayPal charge backs. I would probably make my order now and paid later when chips arrive in that case when order no. has privilege over payment but still wouldn't do that until web-shop is proven as bug-free.

Was there Raspberry-Pi yesterday? I came late to browse web site and while at it, it went offline, so didn't had the chance to explore all options available.

I see no reason for any rush frenzy when chips have not been delivered even for batch one.
There is also no problem with speed of making assembled boards as burnin said and demonstrated, so we should keep it cool and do our steps just in time.
Web site is not working right now, but will be in one or few days. It doesn't matter is it going to be tomorrow or week after tomorrow when there is no chips in stock.

In my opinion ordering stuff without having an account leads to more problems in comparison when you have your own account.
As many said before, all orders should be reset and dealt with possible payment returns since there is no way to determine which payments are good and which are not.
On the side note it is kind of funny to see such a willingness of people to pay for other people orders, and not to stop with such an action even if problem of processing orders was so evident.
115  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 22, 2013, 11:37:11 AM

Looks like separate batch orders, ordered closely to each other, will not be in same shipment if they were about to be delivered to same address. Bummer  Embarrassed
116  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Chips (SebastianJu) Batch 6 ordered (Closed) on: July 18, 2013, 01:28:02 PM
Its not matching an amount of chips. Its exactly 1BTC, which would make 11 chips at 0.946btc. A donation maybe? Or an error?

There is still an order unclaimed. That means i dont know who ordered it.
It is:

Batch 2 Order 5 1H5E2doMHfaENuWMwy44yaEbGrForXEpsX

The owner should claim the chips and verify the sending address.

If this order goes unclaimed and it is refunded, I would be happy to buy the 11 chips!  Grin

I guess it could be someone erraneously sent bitcoins from an exchange. Refunding would be a donation to the exchange. I think if the chips are sold then only after a decent waiting time. Not that i have to provide chips i dont have anymore because someone comes and can verify.

Look at the amount paid. If it is natural number (odd or even) of chips paid then it is intentional and still unclaimed payment.

I guess it is mistake than.

The PSU i am offering with the boards is the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 1000.[/b]
But i'll see if i can find an equally good 1.5kw model.

@burnin,
If any chance please include various extension/conversion cables on your website for those who already have PSU.
I switched to Cooler Master V1000 PSU and probably will be needing some of the variants listed below.
http://www.coolermaster.com/product/Detail/powersupply/v-series-psu/v1000.html

SATA to PCI-E 6P (need three of these)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-pin-PCIe-PCI-E-Grafikkarte-SATA-Stromkabel-Adapter-/220732874310?pt=EN_Computing_Festplattenkabel_Adapter&hash=item3364b45e46

MOLEX 4-pin to PCI-E 6P (now I have these but someone else might need them)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-Pin-Power-Adapter-Cable-for-PCI-Express-Video-Card-/190517701999?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item2c5bbd6d6f

PCI-E 6P extension cable (probably need 8 of these since I am not sure what will be final distance between two bitburner xx)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-Pin-Male-to-Female-PCI-Express-Power-Extension-Cable-20cm-/200722859585?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item2ebc03c641

Please excuse my ignorance but I am still unsure about other type of connectors we will be able to use beside PCI-E 6P when using PSU  Huh

Power and money make you "friends" you don't want, and turns those real ones the ones you want to go away.
If news about split are true, I will be sad in their behalf for a while.

I can't be excited thinking about new chips (even if that news is good), still waiting the original ones to arrive.
120  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 10, 2013, 11:15:39 AM
hey burnin, about the coming website and payment orders:

in order to get my units assembled asap, should I use btc to pay almost instantly or can I use bank wire and save the same spot on the waiting list as I would get with btc payments?

please answe asap, as it takes time to prepare Smiley

Thanks a lot! You did a great job so far  Cool

Paypal should be just as fast.

EMC-Lab confirmed the appointment.

And i have some more overclocking figures for you guys.
Note: I expect that future versions will be more stable due to a few changes.
341 Mhz 1.2V 57.5W - passed long term tests with 0.2% hw-errors.
409 Mhz 1.2V 68.04W - hw-errors increase to 3%
448 Mhz 1.2V 74.4W - not stable
448 Mhz 1.25V 81.6W - unstable 50% hw-errors
448 Mhz 1.28V 84.016W - unstable 50% hw-errors

That's amazing numbers. So if we're lucky and everything goes well, we can use ~409MHz and get 45% performance increase comparing to original 282 MHz Smiley

Not really. It's about 33.7% only, because you have to calculate the higher power consumption.
But that's fine too Grin

This is for one chip:

Quote

compared to

See on the right for profit after power expenses.
And there are not calculated in the errors yet  Wink

Uhm, one chip is not using 57 watts.  That would be quite insane.

Those figures in W are per board of 20 cips
