321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: April 28, 2014, 06:59:53 PM
So potcoin will take about another year to mine out at 420,000,000/40/420.

I really believe that had POS been popular when this was launched that it definitely would have gone that route.

To be completely and totally honest with this opinion I'll also state that I don't really hold any significant amount of POT anymore.

That said, dogecoin should be a lesson learned for this potcoin devs. Dogecoin has by far and away the largest community and because of the multipools mine/dump etc the price will never be stable until it is all mined out, which technically is never but with the tiny block reward it is unlikely to be worthwhile.

Blackcoin should also be the same lesson as we'll all learn within a month or two. Going POS without a wide enough distribution may result in scarcity driving price but may also result in a lack of interest and a lack of new miners or investors or most importantly... those who are both.

TLDR the devs should look at the wallet distributions and consider moving to a mixed POS for this coin and greatly lowering the block reward.

You want the value of the coins to be in the wallets of the coin holders, not subject to the whims of the multipools.

Every scrypt coin goes through this. If we change algorithms we will just got through it again when asics hit that algorithm too.

I do like the idea of transitioning to a POS system though, especially as we approach the 420 Million coin limit. I think that could be a major selling point to merchants looking to accept the coin. They don't necessarily want to cash Potcoin out for USD or Bitcoin in a POS system. They could increase their coin's value by holding it until its ready to be spent, much like interest on a Corporate bank account. That could be appealing to a lot of merchants.

PotCoin price is the problem.  Someone or group is dumping hitting the bid hard keeping the price down.  We need several funds or big investors to step in and buy these coins up.  They are so cheap right now.

The multipool(s) are selling their mined coins daily or every few days. That's what you are seeing in the market that looks like somebody trying to keep the price down.

Those multipools don't just auto exchange them for BTC they usually wait for a rise in the price before they sell them all off. Its going to keep the price of Potcoin down for awhile. Don't expect 3k satoshi again any time soon.
323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [WTS] 2.2 Mh/s Scrypt Miner on: April 27, 2014, 11:08:19 PM
Selling my 5 GPU (Gigabyte R9 270s) Scrypt Miner. Mines at 2.2-2.25 mh/s and draws about ~725 watts at the wall, Each card has been undervolted to 1025 mV.

I keep the cores at 1060 Mhz and each card gets 440 kh/s. They can go higher, but to keep temperatures down I left them at 1060.
Temperatures average in the high 60s. One card runs slightly hotter (~75C) than the others because its at the end of the line.

Its "Turn-Key" style running SMOS 1.3 Operating system on a 4 GB flash drive. Just push the power button and walk away.

Included hardware:

5x Gigabtye R9 270 GPUs
1x AsRock H81 Pro BTC Motherboard
1x Thermaltake ToughPower 1050 W Power Supply
1x Aluminum Open Air Frame
1x Stick 2GB GSkill RipJaw Memory
5x PCIe Risers (USB Style)

Also included is the flash drive with the SMOS 1.3 Operating system.

I am asking 2 BTC for the entire miner. Litecoin accepted as well. Offers are welcome, but don't be offended if I ignore a low ball offer.

In order to ship, it will need to be disassembled. For that reason I will ship only to the Domestic US, and at buyer's expense.
It is available for local pickup, and can be driven home in your car without being taken apart.

Escrow is optional and up to the buyer to find a suitable escrow agent. I have some trust ratings from previous sales here, so if you are fine with no escrow it will speed things up.
However I reserve the right to require escrow if you are new to the forum, have negative ratings, etc.

Also for sale, I have 5 more R9 GPUs pulled from another miner. These are MSI brand:

324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [WTS] MSI R9 270 Graphics Cards on: April 27, 2014, 11:07:57 PM
Selling Five (5x) MSI R9 270 Graphics Cards. All are in excellent working condition, and kept very clean.

They will hash at ~450 kh/s but some say they can go higher. Undervolting the bios will save you considerable power/heat.
I had all 5 together on a system and drawing about ~725 Watt, and it dropped the card's temperature 10-15 C. For the purposes
of sale I have flashed back to the original Bios, powered on and tested each one. They all work.

Asking 1.25 BTC for the lot. Willing to sell them one at a time too, make an offer.

I ship to the Domestic US, at my expense. If you are international, shipping will be extra, PM me.

Escrow is optional and up to the buyer to find a suitable escrow agent. I have some trust ratings from previous sales here, so if
you are fine with no escrow it will speed things up.

This is for the graphics cards only. I do not have the boxes, manuals, etc.
If you are trying to build a miner with these GPUs, I have an AsRock H81 Pro BTC motherboard, G1820 Intel Celeron 1150 CPU, and Powerd Risers that work well with these. PM me if you're interested.

Also for sale, I have a complete Mining Rig with 5x Gigabyte R9 270 GPUs. About the same specs as the MSI card, but this is a complete "turn key" miner:

If we could get pot <-> fiat conversion easily, you would see a lot more adoption by everyday users.

This +1.

Too many people are obsessing over where the thread falls on bitcointalk. If you want to see it higher...then hey about you post more?

The Devs are worried about more important things. This is a bitcoin forum remember? Not a Potcoin forum. We have a reddit page which is more visually appealing anyways:

www.reddit.com/r/potcoin

you know how people see this section everyday? lets say 90% don't matter. the other 10% are people with money looking for things to invest in.

there are many things you need to do to make a coin work. having a thread being very active at the lagest crypto coin forum is one of them

We don't need investors we need adoption. Most alt coins follow the path of promoting the coin by looking for people to buy into the coin. Most do that right here on this forum. And most of those coins fail. Instead we should be focusing on improving ways to actually use the coin. We don't need investors. We don't need the price to shoot up so you can make a bunch of money off of other people. We need to create usage for the coin. Investors will come when that happens.

So far I have not seen one reason why a vendor should accept this coin over Bitcoin. None. Getting more people to buy into this coin just so they hold them is not going to do anything. We will all be left standing with huge piles of worthless coin.

You should be trying to spend your potcoin not hoarde it. When we can actually spend it on something and not just convert it back to something else we will have made progress.

;P This is why I dont like normal Scrypt algo, the multi-pools can jump in at any moment and fork the network. . . very insecure, in a few months when all the big ASICS kick in, multipools will jump from coin to coin causing problems. . . Imagine when one person has 2 GH? jump from coin to coin to coin.  . . dump dump dump the majority of the "stable hash" that doesn't move around in scrypt is locked up in Doge and LTC, thats why scrypt works for them, N-Factor = Best, freaking resist Multi-Pools and dumpers due to setup time, only coins that wont be getting dumped on are asic resistant ones.

You really don't get it. There are still a lot more GPUs mining than asics. And as more asics hit the market they are just replacing the GPU miners. Nobody is going out and buying GPUs to mine anymore. It happened a year ago with Bitcoin...or were you not paying attention?

ASICs did wonders for the bitcoin network. It silenced everybody who thought ASICs were bad. The only people still screaming about them are the fools who think they are somehow entitled to make a bunch of money because they have a few GPUs running in their basement.

ASICs are coming. Get over it.
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: April 24, 2014, 03:37:01 AM
Why on earth would you halve the rewards? Belay that and focus on security. Someone with either epic hashrate (more than all alt's combined) is toying with the coin, or it's someone attacking the network itself.

I agree...halving the rewards could cripple the coin.

The miners who stuck around all of a sudden get half the reward they are used to while the potential attacker walks away with a nice big sum of coins. And nothing to stop him from doing it again.
334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: April 24, 2014, 01:37:18 AM
This may be nothing more than old fashioned 51% attack... I am having blocks disappearing from my wallet... blocks with many confirmations... mined hours ago.

If there is a private conglomerate with enough hash-power to take the network difficulty from the 30's into the 100's... 500 plus... that is more than enough hash-rate to launch a 51% attack.

The POT dev team better get to bottom of this real quick as this will completely unravel any credibility that POT may have as a usable currency.

Yeah that's what I was talking about earlier today...we need to start worrying when confirmed blocks go missing.
335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: April 24, 2014, 12:36:28 AM
It also doesn't make sense because pot hasnt been the most profitable for awhile, so why would an ass ton of miners on a multi just switch?

9hcJyBQshLZsxAuC7z2QEhdGdvaXLbXmHC
This appears to be the Potcoin address the coins were mined to. I assume the one the dev means to look in to.
Unfortunately the block explorer won't open the list of transactions  Undecided

Starting with this block (the odd block) you can step through and see after a few blocks to different addresses, every single one gets mined to this address

Someone is privately mining the proper chain, and/or something is simply broken in the network, as far as my limited understanding can discern. Few of the pools are on the right height, most are way off, but no orphans are showing up. Nethash according to my daemons is showing around 1.75 constant. Even the largest pools (1gh, multi-hundred-mh) were off.

Something is certainly amiss.

I'm wondering if a private pool unknowingly forked the coin at block 197673 and the rest of the pools are on separate chains trying to confirm it.

Scryptominers recently went down and they held a lot of hash power for the Potcoin network...people needed a new place to turn their miners.
337  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: April 24, 2014, 12:10:39 AM
Yeah, I've officially notified my private pool people to move to one of our other servers. I've moved my farm off of pot. There's clearly network manipulation going on, and/or something is broken in the network.

Unofficial warning: As of this second, if you're hashing pot, you're burning electricity for nothing. The Devs need to look into this and act fast.

has your pools updated their potcoin.d for KGW ??  if not your on the wrong chain

I will confirm that the PotCoin network is stalled and there are several forks... I am running that latest wallet... 'v0.8.6.3-beta'... I cannot get past block #197672 for the past few hours... I am running the newest Windows compile that can be downloaded from the PotCoin web-site.

Cgminer is reporting a the difficulty of the current block at 15,800... there have been dozens of blocks solved at 5 second intervals as far back I can see in the log leading up to block #197672... there have been huge diffculty swings in the past 24 hours.

The blockchain has been compromised.

Would this imply that the now correct chain is being mined by a private person/pool? And is far ahead of us? I find it hard to believe that everybody all of a sudden stopped finding blocks.
338  Economy / Economics / Re: Seized coins sale on: April 23, 2014, 08:21:38 PM
I imagine the auction winners will be known publicly.  This might be the largest amount of coins with a known owner, besides Satoshi.

The purchase will almost certainly be made by an investor/company who has plans for the coins. Which means ultimately they will be brought into circulation again. A very good thing.

I doubt anybody is going to buy that many coins to sit on them for years.
339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: April 23, 2014, 08:16:36 PM
Yup, totally agree. Quite an oddity. Nice to see things still running smoothly. Potcoin has done well even with multi's bouncing on it.

Multipools are a good sign we are doing something right  Wink
340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: April 23, 2014, 04:46:36 PM
I saw that overnight.. seemed like something more than just fast blocks occured. My pool has solved back to back to back to back blocks, some within 1 second of eachother (most about 20 seconds apart) over the past few days and difficulty never did this. It jumped, but not like that. Could be wrong, but it sure seemed odd.

Not to mention the odds of finding that many blocks all within 180 seconds. I've been watching the nethashrate bobble the last couple of days, and it would take more than a multipool to do that.

Well, things seem back on track.

Average Block time is 40 seconds. 1 second block times are certainly possible, albeit unlikely that several would occur in a row. But certainly possible.

The fact that they were confirmed should be enough to chalk it up to odd coincidence. If somebody was messing with the chain and attempting to cause harm we wouldn't know about it until the chain was actually forked. We would all just continue on the wrong chain unknowingly. Since the blocks did confirm and have not been orphaned after they were confirmed (sure sign of something amiss...) then I think its safe to assume things are running fine.
