741  Economy / Service Discussion / Who knows Trendon Shavers? on: July 24, 2013, 05:03:45 PM
With the SEC charging Trendon Shavers I've been doing a bit of reading on Pirate. There seems to be quite a bit of misinformation out there and a lot of it is just old speculation before details about Pirate's scheme came out. But there were a number of people who seemed surprised that Trendon Shavers was in fact Pirate, and that he was even charged by the SEC.

So the question I have is, has anybody on these forums actually met Trendon T. Shavers in person? There are a couple of pictures floating around that are supposedly him but it would be nice to have somebody confirm 100% that they have met him and believe he is in fact pirateat40.

Also feel free to speculate on the outcome of the court proceedings. My personal feeling is that Shavers will be convicted in some manner but no restitution will ever be paid.

744  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: July 19, 2013, 10:48:47 PM

Still, even if it's 300 orders a day, that is a snails pace compared to their queue and the fact that they are still accepting orders is tantamount to fraud.

I can't believe people are still placing orders. By the time they receive them the difficulty will be too high for the 5 gh/s bfl to be profitable. There are plenty of other asics on the market right now. You may have to spend a little more up front but you get it now and you get to mine during the time the bfl'ers are waiting months for their delivery

Do you have any pics? Are these rev. 2 or 3?

747  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should MultiPool Mine Extremely low diff/hashrate Coins? LKY, ARG, PXC? on: July 17, 2013, 03:39:33 PM
I think users should have a profile of "which coins they wish to mine", per user.

If the pool is moving to another coin, one that you don't want to participate in... it simply moves you to the coin you do want, from your list, which has the highest value. (Port forwarding by user.)

Thats a good solution but who knows how difficult to implement. It would be nice though because I'm tired of coming back to find a pile of LKY or ARG that I don't know what to do with.
748  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should MultiPool Mine Extremely low diff/hashrate Coins? LKY, ARG, PXC? on: July 17, 2013, 04:22:03 AM
I don't think the multiport should mine coins with low network hash. Its risky and nobody wants to be stuck holding worthless coins when they could have been mining something else. We should be more selective about what is available on the multiport to ensure the coins we are mining have a higher chance of increasing in value.

751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Market Value on: July 02, 2013, 01:38:34 PM
hm, I'd guess closer to .1-.15 tbh

.1 just seems like a good number for the time being

makes everything easier, 10 litecoins = 1 bitcoin

Yeah your right it sounds nice but I don't know if the support for litecoin is there yet. There are already significantly more litecoins in circulation than bitcoin. The price of bitcoin will rise, despite todays fall, as mining becomes more difficult and bitcoins become more scarce. Litecoin on the other hand is still pretty easy to mine and easier to obtain which will keep the price from exploding too much.

Bitcoin won't become more scarce; the same number of Bitcoins will still be produced in the same amount of time.

Sorry but thats just flat wrong.  Bitcoin just had its block size halved several months ago. Roughly half of all bitcoins have been produced since it was created in 2008. The remaining half of all coins are scheduled to be produced over a much longer period (10+ years) with more block halvings to come. Obviously that means they are not being produced at the same rate anymore.

753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Evidence Paypal (eBay) hates Bitcoin on: July 02, 2013, 04:47:02 AM
Maybe they are afraid of being linked to money laundering

Bingo. They see sites like Dwolla and even MtGox being pressured by governments. Paypal does not want to be associated with that. Just don't mention anything about it on your listing. Used is used.
754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Market Value on: July 02, 2013, 03:13:40 AM
depends on how much Mt Gox fucks up the process

Very true. They seem to have a knack for going down when you really don't want them to.

The price will of course go up when it first happens. And then there will probably be some market adjustments to settle somewhere between .04 -.07 btc.
755  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Preferred BTC -> USD in the US? on: June 28, 2013, 04:47:09 AM
BTC-e.com offers a number of virtual wallet services for withdrawing USD after you exchange your BTC. Occasionally they will allow Paypal withdrawals.

Coinbase may be fast for converting to USD but they are slow with bank transfers in my experience.

I was wondering about this. Does the Paypal option just randomly appear and disappear? I just started on the site and saw paypal as an option a few days ago. The following day and since then it has been gone though.

Yeah it seems to. I think its about once a month it gets offered but you can contact support or ask in the troll box if you dare haha. I have successfully withdrawn a number of times to Paypal without a problem. You just have to have good timing

Your really going to offer btc-e.com as a virtual wallet/banking services after they went down for most of today?

MtGox has been having major issues for months. BTC-e went down today because of database issues or so they say. MtGox's reliability isn't any better.
