721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TERRACOIN ATTACK OVER 1.2TH ATTACK CONFIRMD on: July 31, 2013, 09:21:37 PM

The only plus side is he seems to be only burst mining and not outright destroying the network like he had been.

Maybe the attacker didn't want the coin dead. He wouldn't have stopped even after the fix if he wanted it to die. The burst mining is just to accumulate more coins at this point

If I were a guessing type of person I would guess, that maybe the attacker was simply testing out a newly modified Time Warp attack on the best SHA256 coin to test on since the exploit hasn't been used in over two years and before it's modded any further to work on scrypt based coins. Just guessing but I think TRC had the perfect testing environment, a high but not too high hash rate, a dev team that would counter and user base that wouldn't just fold.

All of this just theory of course but you're probably correct, the attacker didn't want to kill TRC.

~BCX~

The idea is interesting but if the purpose of the attack was to test it on a strong sha256 coin, why bother continuing to mine even after the fix was put in place? The only purpose for doing that is to generate more coins for themselves while network hash power and difficulty are low...but for what purpose would they need the coins if they wanted it dead?

Pm'd you if your still selling
724  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is unocs a scam? on: July 31, 2013, 02:18:03 AM
All of the coins supported by UNOCS have either been premined, instamined or both.

I'll leave the decision up to you whether it is a good investment.

Premined does not necessarily mean death to the coin any more. Many coins are stronger than ever right now and they were premined (i.e. Novacoin). Especially when there are sometimes legitimate reasons for a premine. For example Phenixcoin (UNOCS member) premined and is using the coins to promote its poker site in the form of free roll tournaments.
725  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS: Various GPU's & mining components... on: July 30, 2013, 05:54:29 PM
I don't mind needing to restart things I check on my miners frequently so thats ok. And 700 Mh/s is what I wanted to hear Smiley  However I am currently looking for old, high end gpus for LTC mining. That is much more memory intensive than bitcoin mining so bad ram on the card could be an issue...

When you say bad ram do you mean dead ram chips that aren't even recognized or that its just flaky and fails sometimes?
726  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is unocs a scam? on: July 30, 2013, 03:34:41 PM
I don't think they're scam. However, investing time and money in those altcoins is a waste in my opinion

Possibly, But you have to admit the prospect of investing in one coin that is directly supported by 2 different coins is interesting. It would be like Canada/Mexico/US all accepting each others currencies freely, albeit at different rates.
727  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is unocs a scam? on: July 30, 2013, 03:24:22 PM
I highly doubt its a scam. I think the three developers have been fairly transparent about UNOCS and the goals of three coins working together. Their bridge is supposed to launch soon and depending on how that goes I think will determine how UNOCS fares.

What kind of hash rates do the 5970s get? I don't care about booting and displaying, just hashing
729  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Broken Graphics cards... or working on: July 30, 2013, 02:35:25 PM
I have a Sapphire 5830 that I can't get to display. It is recognized as a generic vga device in windows but I havn't gone any farther in trying to fix it. Also I have a working Diamond 6970 if you are looking for working cards. PM if your still interested in buying and I'll send you pics.
730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thinking about selling my ~1,900 KH/S miner on: July 30, 2013, 01:54:24 PM
I'm looking for upwards of $1,200 or so. I'm trying to let the market decide the price.

Do you have pictures of the setup? $1200 seems high. People are dumping gpu based systems left and right so its not hard to find a 2000 kh/s rig. I just built one for about $1100 and that was with only 3 cards (dual 5970s and a 7950)
731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TERRACOIN ATTACK OVER 1.2TH ATTACK CONFIRMD on: July 30, 2013, 01:36:56 PM
Oops, I just woke up. Block 175092 was the 2nd peak, at 99K diff. It's on the way back down now.

Well in that case I'll help the network stabilize. Not much just ~3.5 gh/s but its something lol. I just didn't want to start mining and then find out its taking a day or more for a block and everybody is abandoning lol. Personally I hope TRC survives this because I think it has some very important improvements over bitcoin...and somebody else obviously feels the same otherwise why bother to attack it?
732  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TERRACOIN ATTACK OVER 1.2TH ATTACK CONFIRMD on: July 30, 2013, 12:43:42 PM
How's TRC status these days?

Yeah I'm wondering the same. Low hash power and profitability on multipool is scaring me away from running my block eruptors on trc again...
733  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So, Anyone else getting burnt out on Bitcoin? on: July 30, 2013, 12:30:28 PM
I know it's a odd question to post on a BITCOIN forum, but I was wondering if it was just me. A few months ago I discovered bitcoin and jumped right into it. Was mining with a pretty crappy GPU (5770), but I was making about $1 a day, which I was happy with. It was money the wife didn't know anything about and couldn't take from me.

Through a bunch of trades, mining, and other crap, I managed to scrape up about 1.7 bitcoins in total. Had a great time spending them. I just thought it was the neatest thing being able to spent this "fake money" and actually get physical electronic goods shipped to my house. So slowly little by little, I managed to spend all of my bitcoins on electronics and pirated e-books. (Happier about some of the books then even the electronics.)

So after spending all of the coins, and trying to mine more, things kinda dried up for me. Couldn't make any worthwhile trades, can't mine bitcoins anymore... (Mining about 0.25 cents a day), tried Litecoin for a while, but didn't really find it to be worth mining on my current hardware either.

So I can't figure out is it's the fact that I'm bitcoin broke that's keeping me away, or if it's that I no longer want to mine on my current hardware, and therefore don't have the feeling of accomplishment anymore? At my current position, would it be worth it to get a Erupter block? I can't see spending $250 on a Jalapeno. Hell, spending $60 on an Erupter block doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, though it's almost double my current 5770 hash rate.

I was just wondering if the bitcoin train is still picking up steam, or if it's pretty much coasting right now for other people.

The bitcoin train is absolutely picking up steam. Bitcoin is becoming more widespread and accepted as a viable currency. However mining profitability is going down as more coins hit the market. So I think what you really mean to ask is, how much longer will mining be profitable? and the answer to that is not very long if you don't have a powerful asic working for you.
734  Economy / Lending / Re: Medical Marijuana and Bitcoin on: July 30, 2013, 11:36:49 AM
Drugs are bad. Using the term "medical" is not an excuse.

Thats funny. What about the countless pills you have undoubtedly taken during your lifetime? Were none of them drugs? And what were you taking them for if not for medical purposes? You just don't like marijuana. Thats fine. But don't bash people who use it responsibly for medical purposes. Some people abuse it sure, but there are plenty of people getting high off nyquil and buying prescription oxycodone off the street. Does that mean we should ban them too? What about alcohol? The drug of choice for most people and its arguably more dangerous than marijauana...they tried to ban that once remember? Didn't work so well.
735  Economy / Economics / Re: Now that BTC is illegal in Thailand, which country will ban BTC next? on: July 29, 2013, 11:36:02 PM
Good luck enforcing this one Wink
736  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED] Block Erupter USB - kosmo says "Buy from btcguild.com at cost"!! on: July 29, 2013, 10:06:08 PM
Hello everyone - I was bombarded with PMs this weekend asking for block erupters at 0.1 BTC. I stopped selling these a while ago. I don't have any of these in-stock and have not seen any official public announcements yet about how to acquire the discounted units.

I've only seen rumors that state some users may be entitled to get discounted units (quantity equal to 1/3 of what you've ordered so far). Those same rumors seem to state that specific details won't be made available until August 5th ('The exact method of coupon distribution will be announced when coupon units arrive, which should be around August 5th.')

Hopefully you all trust that I'll continue to take care of you in every way that's in my power - my time is very limited at the moment and I can't afford to be shipping out hundreds of these miners for no profit. When the official announcement is made, I'll evaluate the price that is being offered, determine what I would need to earn in order to resume re-selling these products, and then make a public announcement myself if I decide to proceed. In addition, if there is any way to pass this coupon onto you in order to have you redeem for yourself, I'll be more than happy to do that. That would be ideal as I really am not keen on group buys and have little interest in resuming sales in that manner.

Please be patient for another week or so while more details roll out. Thanks.

Thanks a lot kosmo. Looking out for us as always. I don't think it would be fair for asicminer or friedcat to expect you to be a middle man for no gain. A simple confirmation from you on how many units each of us ordered so they know how many discounted units we are entitled. It shouldn't be that difficult to implement.

I just hope they make it easy and take care of us because these price drops are very suspicious...
737  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Who knows Trendon Shavers? on: July 24, 2013, 05:44:39 PM
With the SEC charging Trendon Shavers I've been doing a bit of reading on Pirate. There seems to be quite a bit of misinformation out there and a lot of it is just old speculation before details about Pirate's scheme came out. But there were a number of people who seemed surprised that Trendon Shavers was in fact Pirate, and that he was even charged by the SEC.

So the question I have is, has anybody on these forums actually met Trendon T. Shavers in person? There are a couple of pictures floating around that are supposedly him but it would be nice to have somebody confirm 100% that they have met him and believe he is in fact pirateat40.

Also feel free to speculate on the outcome of the court proceedings. My personal feeling is that Shavers will be convicted in some manner but no restitution will ever be paid.

Have ppl met him in person?

Yes, pls search for "Vegas, "Pirate", "picture", "meetup" or "Meeting" and some of his pass through operators and you will find him. It was around the last DEFCON taking place in 2012.

Yes that info is easily available and not hard to find. Maybe I should be more clear. I want to know if somebody on this forum met Shavers at DEFCON in 2012 or someplace else in the past year and can confirm he is who we all think he is. The reason I am interested in this is because in my readings I came across bits of information that suggests links to other possible bitcoin entities/scams that Pirate may be involved with (Some people even think he is involved with BFL currently...)
738  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: USB Block Eruptors & cgminer 3.3.1 - low hash rate???? on: July 24, 2013, 05:32:39 PM
One more thought, you are providing them enough power correct? .5 amps per stick. If your hub is struggling to provide power it could result in hash rates being lower.

IMPORTANT UPDATE II

Team BFL is one of the top rated Minecraft teams in the world and will be attending the next competition next month. We are seeking donations to pay for our trip. Please email or PM us to get our private Bitcoin address.

We already gave them our money so they could mine with our hardware and not ship it (assuming it actually exists), so why not give them more money so they play minecraft too?
740  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: USB Block Eruptors & cgminer 3.3.1 - low hash rate???? on: July 24, 2013, 05:07:51 PM
Supposedly cgminer 3.3.1 is designed to work well with these USB miners. But I had issues getting them to run correctly and I actually reverted to cgminer 3.2.1 and have been happily mining with them ever since. Might be worth a try for you.
