321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if you bought some of those stolen Mt Gox Bitcoins? on: March 01, 2014, 09:59:58 PM
Sorry if this was discussed, but in USA if you buy stolen property and you are caught with it you have to return it to the original owner at your loss.

Now, lets say someone did steal the Mt Gox. Bitcoins, and then you bought some of them unknowingly.

If they could trace back through the blockchain that those bitcoins were indeed stolen Mt. Gox. coins, wouldn't they be able to take them back from you?

I doubt that this would happen.  The Bitcoins would not have the same address.  They are not the same Bitcoins.

Maybe Bitcoins obtained straight from a stolen source are one thing, but Bitcoins that have transferred MANY times with differing amounts over a year?  What basis would that be?  They do not do that with cash or currency.

sure they do,

the OP is correct if you are able to track, trace, or connect the dots then you are obligated to return the money.

Jewish organizations are collecting gold, money, and many other valuable things that they were able to convince a judge, and or jury that was stolen from their people during their stay at auschwitz concentration camps.

the blockchain provides a perfect vehicle for that connecting of the dots.

Now let's look at it in a bit of a different way, if I sold my car to you and you gave me counterfeit money which I took to the bank, who subsequently confiscated said fakes funds.  Do you think you are off the hook for my money?  Of course not, regardless of the law, but in this case the law is on my side.   You would also need to do some 'spaning to the coppers.

The very definition of money laundering is taking ill gotten gains and introducing it into legal commerce.  So if you purchased a btc for $40 when the going rate was $80 or $800 there is likely a good reason for it.    The block chain might not be able to tell us the market rate for the coin at that time but you can put together perfect valuations for what the coin was worth at the time of the transfer simply be average all of the coins sold in that block or perhaps the chain of blocks for that hour surrounding that transaction.

being uncooperative only serves to distance yourself from the good of the community, as the community matures it will tend to remember the bad guy with perfect recall

Armis, in your example here, unfortunately how it really works is that YOU would be in JAIL, even though you TRULY would be the innocent party.....trust me on this one, I deal with this everyday of my life and know for a fact that you would be dealing with it first, long before the bad guy would have to.
322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if you bought some of those stolen Mt Gox Bitcoins? on: March 01, 2014, 09:53:46 PM
so far I would have to say it's a yes and no answer. In theory yes you have tainted goods, whether its currency or not does not matter, but  no most of us would not have to give it back or have it confiscated because as time goes by and users move their btc around it will become harder and harder to track.

But if you have a wallet full of stolen/missing btc, and it is traced to you, then that would not be good......

the point.....use your btc more and more.......i know i felt stupid when Apple removed btc wallets from the APP store and I didn't have a wallet on my iphone when I could have had one....but alas there is a remedy for that and so now I have BTC (small amount in case of loss)
on my phone so I can eat.....now to find a restaurant that takes my BTC

don't mean to be a party pooper, just want everyone to keep their eyes peeled, but last posts from the likes of Canaryinthemine and Silentsonicboom in regards to these hubs was that these were end of life from Asicminer.....now maybe they are making more, all I am saying is be careful, and escrow/Paypal where you can. Good luck.

326  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Introduction to DualMiner USB (could mine both BTC and LTC) on: February 25, 2014, 05:38:06 AM
@mineryyyyy

Find a right //./COMxx name for LTC only is a pain, so that is why we developed a GUI for that. GUI uses a script to detect miners and ports, than use the right port automatically.

Quick question. I just purchased and set up 13 miners (which all seem to play together nicely). I am running the software downloaded from your site. Everything seems to work fine and then all of a sudden the CGminer will reset. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but it doesn't always close out the old instance.

What is causing this and what do I need to do to correct the problem?

Thanks.
hey, not sure if this will help, but trying running them from the ltc batch file provided in the dualminer bundle software, and of course modify the file accordingly.

hey @el,

hope you don't mind, but I pumped scryptguild on some other threads, hope it helps.
328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ScryptGuild (BTC Guild) Alpha looking for additional miners on: February 25, 2014, 03:39:19 AM
I'm a Scrypt noob, so be nice!  And this post probably belongs in the CGMiner thread.  But I'm afraid I'll be shredded for my ignorance over there.   Undecided

I've been mining BTC for over a year, first with GPUs and more seriously with ASICs over the past 9 months.  So I have a handful of AMD 79xx's lying around collecting dust and thought I would try a bit of Scrypt mining as a lark.

My problem... I'm a BFGMiner user (with my ASICs that require additional software to run).  And for some reason when I try to mine Scrypt with BFG, the stats on the miner show around 600KHs for a 7970, which sounds ok.  But the stats at the pool show something like 60KHs and less.  I've tried a couple of other pools for comparison with similar results.

So I guess my problem is with BFGMiner then, right.  So why don't I use CG/SGMiner?  Now here's the embarrassing part... when I unpack the compressed CGMiner file, there's no cgminer.exe in the folder!  I've tried different versions, checked my AV quarantine, etc.  I get no alerts that cgminer.exe is malicious when I download or unpack. But still no cgminer.exe to be found anywhere.  Oddly, when I unzip BFGMiner, my AV software puts bfgminer.exe in quarantine but I just have to restore it and it works fine.

What the hell am I doing wrong?!  Where's my cgminer.exe?

Edit... Windows 8.  And no, I don't do Linux.
hey there, if anything start with GUIMINER then work your way into cgminer.....much easier

hey all.....new pool to mine on....mines dogecoin when its profitable, and others when they are more profitable too....
plus the server admin. knows what he is doing, btcguild.com is proof of that.

332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ScryptGuild (BTC Guild) Alpha looking for additional miners on: February 25, 2014, 01:11:21 AM
can I also use a USB Block Erupters?
or only GPU / CPU.

Scrypt only.  That rules out USB block erupters.

M
BUT not Dualminer USBs....they can do both sha256 and scrypt mining...
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ScryptGuild (BTC Guild) Alpha looking for additional miners on: February 24, 2014, 03:45:43 PM
hey eleuthria. As always amazing work.

I have not moved my miners yet to scryptguild.....but I have been keeping an eye on scryptguild. I am getting ready to move to this pool real soon.

couple things....

I use coinwarz.com to check on profitabiltiy and so far have noticed them to be fairly accurate on the amounts estimated vs. real life output...for SHA256 it has been spot on but I only mine BTC.....and on scrypt, I have only mined LTC and DOGECOIN, tried casinocoin for a day but that was a disaster but it too was fairly accurate. My point is that the site might be a good indicator of coins to watch for mining/profit.

thanks for the great pool.....

Scryptguild just added to my mining pools database.
Good luck, guys.

337  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 open for sale again] The last round before the Chinese New Year on: February 20, 2014, 07:59:40 PM
We all know the feeling how it sucks to have your farm earning less than 1 BTC per month when it used to earn dozens.  Roll Eyes
hey threader, don't mean to be a party pooper,.....but.....uhhh......no. I still shoot for a dozen or so........
338  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Introduction to DualMiner USB (could mine both BTC and LTC) on: February 20, 2014, 02:50:10 AM
Is there any news on the new version of the mining software?
The current version seems to like to stop mining every day or two.
Other than that the miner works great.  I am very happy with it.

Use the custom version of cgminer with cgwatcher.  Haven't had any issues in days since I stopped using the GUI.
can you help out with link to cgminer with cgwatcher.... Thx
339  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: February 18, 2014, 07:04:10 AM
My ant says I have avg 195GHs, but BTCguild only shows 150GHs. They were about the same before I overclock. What is the problem? Any body has any idea?   Huh

kano, recently eleuthria mentioned something about changes to guild server, might affect some miners and their displayed hash rate....check out his thread and recent posts....

ps. hope this helps
