1301  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: US based exchanges on: April 21, 2014, 06:03:48 PM
By exchange I meant a place I can buy and sell BTC.

If you aren't looking for "an exchange", and are just trying to find out where you can buy bitcoins or sell bitcoins, there are thousands of individuals in the US all buying and/or selling bitcoins.

localbitcoins.com would be a good place to find many of them. You also might take a look at meetup.com to see if there are any bitcoin related meetups that you'd like to attend.

No, im looking for a company (fairly popular).

Ah.  Well, in that case, you'll want to take a look at https://bitsimple.com

Ill check it out. Thanks. Any other ones just in case BitSimple doesnt work out for me?

Sorry, doesnt work. It excludes California residents. Anything else?

BitSimple excludes states that have chosen to interpret their local laws as having either highly restrictive regulations or extremely ambiguous regulations on the exchange of bitcoins.  As such, you are going to find it rather difficult to find a U.S. registered company that chooses to take the risk of knowingly exchanging bitcoins with a California resident.  Any that do are likely to run into legal issues if they grow to a size that could be considered "popular".

Coinbase is based in california and allows trading.

Hi.

Are there any other us based exchanges besides coinbase and buttercoin?

Does CampBX still exist?

Note, that Coinbase is not "an exchange".  They are more of a retail seller, and purchaser.

An exchange connects buyers with sellers, and receives a commission for the service.

Coinbase is the buyer (and the seller).

By exchange I meant a place I can buy and sell BTC. I don't care if they are just a middleman.

Is campbx registered and headquartered in the us?

As far as I know, Kraken is an exchanged based in San Francisco, USA.

Do they call Bitcoins "XBT"?

1308  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: cryptothrift.com discussion on: April 21, 2014, 05:22:53 PM
Just made my first listing. Was pretty simple and quick. Lets see if I can close a deal.

Didn't cryptothrift used to offer FTC as a payment option?
Hi there,

As of April 15th we stopped accepting all alt coins with the exception of litecoin, simply because there was nobody using them.  In the end we decided to better use our resources improving the site performance and adding features rather than adding coins that were not being used.  Full details can be found on our blog here https://cryptothrift.com/alts-important-announcement/

Thanks
Paul

Ah, well that's a shame. I'm sure people will use alts more with time. Your site is still growing too. The option to accept and pay in alts is always a plus and I think more people tend to part with them easier than Bitcoin, but I can understand if you think it wasn't worth keeping them.

I never used alts on the site at all. It was a good choice removing it. The resources need to be allocated elsewhere.

1319  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: April 20, 2014, 07:45:32 PM
Of course it's because we're using the signatures ourselves. But we are doing that for a reason, probably ( in my case at least ) because I don't see why it should bother anyone. Smiley

One word. Spam.
1320  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: April 20, 2014, 07:42:44 PM
I stopped putting ads in my signature when I realized it makes me look similar to those who just spam for money. Many people would complain that they can't spam for their $50/month that they get from signature ads, but in the long run it'd be much better for bitcointalk.

BTW I get more around $100-200.

The amount isn't the point nor the topic of this thread, it's the spam that it creates.

Why not only allow Full Members + to have a signature in the first place?

Why should Members and below be blocked from having a signature because people are spamming due to signature ads?

Or maybe not allowed to have a link.

Truthfully there is no medium. Its either get half of the forum pissed, or get the other half.
Who is pissed now then? If the mods hadn't noticed a significant decrease in spam when they changed the signature rules, they would've changed it back straight away, no?

There is a slight difference but not big enough. Right now the people in this thread who are anti-ads are pretty pissed.
No offense, but that seems to be a them-problem. They actually made a change based on just 1 persons proposal, made it happen very quickly too. They don't have the right to be pissed imho.

Not one persons. A lot of mods and even theymos wanted the change.

We both know the only reason that we are against this is because we are getting paid. If I wasnt I would def be against it.
