121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] [SXC] Official Store Opens Today! on: September 24, 2013, 11:52:12 PM
damn.
I shouldn't have shorted my sexcoins for android tokens.
I mean this is great. Now you can buy porn without it showing up on the credit card bill.
Btw I know I'll sound like a faggot for asking this but is there any chance you add... ehm... hentai Lips sealed
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Physical Cryptogenic Bullion Bars (1 troy ounce) - Gauging interest on: September 24, 2013, 11:34:34 PM
I'd be potentially interested, still trying to find a good source of info on the specific advantages of CGB. Can anyone point me at a link?
Its the first coin that will be completely mined perse.
123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Official AnonCoin thread - Client Update!! (Native I2P, TOR nodes) on: September 24, 2013, 11:20:02 PM
I am now convinced that the difficulty setting was a bad idea.
I have never seen a coin swing so wildly.
Do you guys even mine your own coin to keep the difficulty level at a reasonable level?
Oh well I'm keeping them, but I hope it becomes more stable in the future.

We keep mining it ourselves, but even when the pools had a stable hashrate of 100+ mh/s it was not enough to battle the "raiders".

To sum it up;
We have tried applying as much stable hashing power as possible to stabilize this. A huge thanks go out to all miners participating in keeping it as stable as possible.
We have asked pool operators to be as fair as possible when it comes to awarding PPLNS to avoid "hit 'n run" pools.
We have viewed the behavior of the blocks as the diff change, and noticed that this is no longer caused by the pools.

In conclusion it is mainly caused by someone solo mining with probably twice the hashrate of the pools combined, and run off with 80% the easy blocks. This probably requires 300 mh/s or more. We simply cannot battle this amount of power to stabilize it permanently. In addition to this, the hashrate that was already growing well at the pools went back down as miners left when the coin devalued on cryptsy. This pretty much gives away the blocks on low diff with only a few seconds between them to the huge solo farm, swinging the diff very high for the faithful miners to work on until they come back for another run.

Unless we get a lot more stable hashrate on the pools, this behavior is likely to continue. I believe most users agree when I say this is becoming unbearable, and might trigger another hard fork update in a not too distant future to hopefully fix this issue, and stop the exploration once and for all.
Thanks for the update.
Other than that you guys have been doing a good job.

Man if Ron Paul had been elected we would probably have had the choice to pay our taxes with bitcoins.
What a shame.

Oh yes, Paul QE Krugman.
I've read an article about him too.  Roll Eyes

127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin & Terrorism on: September 24, 2013, 02:42:36 PM
I was thinking about how easily everything could get out of hand with bitcoin so easily being passed around. I mean if the wrong people know about it, they could quite easily use bitcoin to fund weapons and all sorts..what are your thoughts?

Gold, silver, land, resources and cash have been the currency of the worse human crimes in world history.

Bitcoin, not so much.

Every dollar in your pocket has drugs, guns, and political crimes attached to it, but something tells me you already know all this and are simply here to be a Concern Troll, to plant seeds of FUD in Bitcoiners and those researching the technology.
It also has the sweat and bacteria of the millions of people's hands that have held them.
Bitcoins. They're cleaner.
128  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / do we need the blockchain? on: September 24, 2013, 01:49:51 PM
I've noticed a few flaws with the blockchain model.
Among those are.

1.You need to create new blocks in order to make transactions, making it impossible for the crypto currency to ever be completely finite.
2.You need to download the blockchain every time you fire up the wallet which becomes increasingly heavier with time
3.You need miners to protect the blockchain
4.All your transactions are saved on the blockchain
5.Transaction time is dependant on the creation of new blocks

Even the argument that it makes things more decentralized doesn't hold up since we all know mining becomes more centralized with time anyways.

Now I'm not saying this will affect bitcoins in any major way, but I think if someone were to come up with another cryptocurrency in the future they should do away with the concept of blockchain altogether.

Said currency should
1.start off centralised
2.given away to make it more decentralised.
3.make the transactions work through another method like IRC

This would make transactions instant, anonymous and there wouldn't be a need for miners.

Sort of like ripple I guess.

Am I right or am I wrong?

129  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin Town: Let's Make the Future Come to us on: September 24, 2013, 01:15:10 PM
You guys can start your town in detroit.

that actually might be the cheapest method

okay where is the place with lowest property taxes?
If you guys are doing it in detroit you can just squat.
I don't think those properties will be claimed for a while.
Just don't forget your guns, you're going to need them.
Also record it and broadcast it on the internet for profit/hilarity.
130  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much ,as you think ,is 1 bitcoin in 2025? on: September 24, 2013, 02:07:32 AM

Why because of the MtGox fuss?
The markets are just adjusting to bitstamp and coinbase.
When business fail they don't get a hand out. That's how the free market looks like friendo.
131  Economy / Marketplace / distros for coins on: September 23, 2013, 07:00:57 PM
Hey I went to distro watch and noticed that they sell live dvds with linux distros.
I have jewel cases and dvds, so I figured I could do that.
Anyone interested in buying live linux live dvds/cds for bitcoins (or some alt perhaps)?
132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Future is here! NEW COIN Androids Tokens. ADT. on: September 23, 2013, 02:03:28 PM
okay ill try again.
60(seconds)*60 (minutes)=3600 seconds per hour*24 hours=86400 blocks per day/30 seconds=2880 blocks per day
100,000 (blocks)/2880 (blocks per day)= 34.72 (days)
so the block reward gets cut in half every 35 days roughly...
133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Future is here! NEW COIN Androids Tokens. ADT. on: September 23, 2013, 05:04:54 AM
Boy I think this wins the award for weirdest coin. Shocked
Hopefully the block reward getting cut in half will have some kind of effect on the price.
edit: welp it was fuzzy.

Well lets get really specific: we'll assume you are using "tinyfugue" MUD client so your scripts will be tinyfugue (tf) scripts; and we'll assume you went with the race known as Duergar and the profession known as artisan, because seeing in the dark lets you not have to do all the worrying about torches or lamp-oil that races without darkvision have to deal with if they want to work in caves or outdoors-at-night:

The command to start it up is "tf -ftf/auto/aduergar".

If the version of coffeemud being run at the MUD isn't the latest one that broke some stuff by trying to add weird nonstandard ansi codes to support some client that is a real problem-client nowhere near as important as tinyfugue in the coffeemud developer's scheme of things, this automatically logs in and does stuff that earns experience and keeps the character fed and bathed and watered, provided you gave the character at least one "buffalo hide waterskin" up front it can fill at the lake and drink from when thirsty.

The fact that the actual auto-logging-in currently is broken is actually in a way a feature not a bug, because an individual can easily just log in when they fire it up, whereas a botnet operator with thousands of zombies trying to do this now has thousands of zombies to log in to manually or has to hack up a patch to apply on each zombie with some kind of workaround for the login. Presumably being careful that it will still work as soon as the coffeemud developer reverts the crazy attempt to accomodate the neverending-source-of-trouble client he didn't really want to support anyway so that tinyfugue will work fine again as normal.

This is a really simplistic pair of scripts, for a race and character-class that is so far seemingly the simplest to deal with. Doubtless scripts will get way more sophisticated over time, but this one is simplistic enough people likely wouldn't be too concerned about just giving it away to anyone because doubtless their own customised version would outperform it.

Also it actually contains tons of pieces of script that it does not need, as examples, because it was made by being given a script by an elf who had a clanhouse to move around in with ovens and stoves and so on thus could make preserves and fun stuff like that. Those examples will come in handy for some duergar sometime who sculpts a stove, smiths some pots and pans and so on, and finds sources of fruit and so on.

It could be stripped down a LOT by chopping out all the stuff the current generation of Duergar at the Duergar starting-spot don't actually use yet.

The clanhouse is of a floorplan that one can buy ready-made, so actually if the Duergar manage to rack up enough capital they could in principle order such a clanhouse, or maybe even build one, put the oven etc in the same room of the kitchen area etc, and basically make a lot of those scripts work unaltered in a clanhouse of their own.

Most likely a newbie would in effect "get a job", whereby they create a race and profession of character the "employer" wants to "hire", and run scripts provided by the "employer" that include taking stuff to the employer's merchant/shop to sell and maybe even buying food and water there too, so they can focus directly on just their "job".

This particular group of Duergar that this individual Duergar is living with though are starting pretty much from scratch hoping to work their own way up to eventaully becoming ready to start "hiring".

This whole approach to "CPU mining" is still in the startup / early-adopter stage; by the time it gets really sophisticated these early characters will be level 91 artisans, stinking rich, living in a large complex of caves of their own instead of at the racial starting-spot, and maybe "hiring" all the newbie Duergar at a nice profit to themselves.

135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How long are you planning to hold on: September 22, 2013, 09:38:56 PM
I was wondering if anyone here had a more long term view of their alts and was planning on holding on to them for longer periods of time.
Personally I'm holding on to anoncoins and megacoins for multiple months. More than that and I'd just get impatient.
Just in case I get lucky.
136  Economy / Service Discussion / will bitcoins recover from mtgox? on: September 22, 2013, 08:15:44 PM
It seems like Mt.Gox has made a mess of things and still hasn't sorted things out.
Needless to say that other exchanges like coinbase and bitstamp will take its place.
The question is wherever Mt.Gox has made more people wary.
Sites like foodler still tie their prices to Mt.Gox...

That's what I call them, lol.

Good idea but farmers are usually conservative people. I think they will not jump immediately into the bitcoin business.
Conservatives hate the fed, like capitalism and like saving money.
I wouldn't be surprised if they made up a large portion of the bitcoin economy, in the US atleast.

Honestly all of the snide woman-bashing in this thread makes me not want to listen to anti-feminists. At all. I wonder how many women dumped you all before you got all bitter. :/  Now let's watch you all whine and cry about feminist hypocrisy while you spend the better part of this thread making fun of and ganging up on any woman who cares about women's issues by calling them man-hating hairy-legged ivory-tower hormone-raging feminist psychos who are completely disconnected from reality. Cheesy

I will give you all this much, though: threads like this are a good way to know who to stay the hell away from. :/

So you're saying they're not man-hating hairy-legged ivory-tower hormone-ranging feminist psychos?

If weed is going to be like cigarattes and big corporations going to make big bucks while it will be still legal to make money out of weed and corporates will charge insane profits from us , no! But if the current weed circulation going to be legal , thats great.
right, so who ate you going to buy it from, the jamaican guy who sells it at 10 a gram or the evil corporation that sells at 10 an ounce?  Roll Eyes
