301  Economy / Lending / Re: [Open] 6.4 BTC loan, collateral/escrow, monthly interest, ~5 months. on: January 19, 2015, 07:03:05 AM
I think I am going to pass on the loan. The OP is offering to give a value of his collateral the monthly average of 8 sats, while the current trading price is between 6 and 7 sats on the major exchanges and wants to get a loan for the entire value of the collateral based on 8 sats.

In other words he wants to get a loan while using collateral valued at between 75% and 87.5% of the principle of the loan.

Of course, we go by the monthly avg - that's a bit more than usual leeway since last time I loaned out with 2 week avg and it was almost 50% higher than monthly avg Smiley
Was the lender specifically made aware of the differences in price? I was not told until I specifically asked (after doing my research on the current price).

303  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for blockchain expert analysis on: January 19, 2015, 05:16:44 AM
Are you able/willing to publicly disclose the relevant transactions? Doing so may enable people in the future to be able to research and track down the theft in the event that such block chain analysis does not exist now
304  Economy / Lending / Re: [Open] 6.4 BTC loan, collateral/escrow, monthly interest, ~5 months. on: January 19, 2015, 05:11:43 AM
I can provide a collateral in a different coin to cover most of the loan at the current avg monthly market price, if that would ease your concerns due to this request being a relatively large amount. Escrow will be the one we both agree on that can be trusted to hold the collateral. I would prefer to ask this public escrow to hold the collateral:

https://twitter.com/NobleCoin

Not some faceless anonymous escrow on btc talk, so I would trust him personally. We can discuss it further.

I am confused. Is this offer still open or is it a confirmed scam? This really does look like a scam to me. Why would anyone want to buy 6+BTC of your NobleCoin? Why are you suggesting to use some random escrow that has zero trade history on the forum? Whose twitter is this?

The offer is still open. The collaterals are not up for 'sale'. They are collaterals, and this one individual rum152 is more or less outright lying just because he can't get a last word in.

That escrow has recently opened, and is a preference. Of course, it does not have to be him - I am up for using maidak or any other escrow both parties can agree on. The twitter belongs to the suggested escrow, nothing more.

I have no idea if you agree with the terms on the OP, but I would ask that you be careful with such accusations - nothing is a 'scam' because you do not find the terms to your advantage. If you want to find scams, there are plenty of threads out there in the btc talk right now Smiley

All terms are a bit more generous and stringent and open then other successful loans I have completed in the past, in the amount greater than one I am offering right now. They are listed in the OP.

Feel free to offer additional questions.
I may be interested. I just have a few more questions. I do not agree using any new escrow service, that would honestly be dumb. Is the collateral NobleCoin? It appears that the escrow is heavily involved in NobleCoin; can you confirm your level of involvement in NobleCoin? Can you disclose your twitter account?

307  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Help - I was hacked - 63.73 BTC - Blockchain.info secured by 2FA on: December 05, 2014, 04:39:02 AM
Wow... I should take my money off of online wallets. I really like using the blockchain.info app on my phone, but it's not worth the security risk.
I definetly don't want to run a full blown bitcoin client like bitcoin-qt...

I wouldn't think of using anything but Bitcoin-QT.  It is intensive but once the blockchain is downloaded there is minimal effect on my computer experience if I leave it open.  I'm not even terribly confident that it is secure and I have a pass code that takes minutes to input (random phrases from Ulysses).

I finally broke down and installed a phone wallet but only for the novelty.  There is never more than fifty bucks in it.

These stories kind of scare me.  I don't have nearly the amount that OP had but I don't want to lose anything that I have.  2FA on an email account might seem like an inconvenience but is necessary in my opinion.

I feel for you, OP.  I hope that there is a way to bet your BTC back...

Edit - I have no idea if it works or not but I type in my password and then hit five random keys (anywhere in the middle) followed by hitting the backspace five times).  Even if it is placebo, I have always thought that was a way I could defeat any potential keyloggers.  Note - I am not the most tech savvy individual in the world.
This would not foil any potential keylogging attempts of stealing your password to your wallet. A keylogger can see all the keys that you press so if they attempt to decrypt your wallet with your password, they can simply delete the last 5 letters and then would have access to your wallet. A keylogger would not even know that you entered them in the middle of your password so it would not affect it.

Also blockchain.info allows the 2nd password that is optional and will allow you to send funds can be entered via a "screen" keyboard which prevents most keyloggers from capturing your password
308  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: arbitrage from btc-e to bitstamp - is it worth it? on: December 05, 2014, 04:30:38 AM
Thanks for the pointer. But it seems they don't have an API there yet, that could be used for automated trading?

I don't think you need an API to use automated trading (although I believe both bistamp and btc-e allow api access). All you need is to give your bot your account credentials and if your bot is created correctly it can access your account and execute trades, even via their website
309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People can now buy Bitcoin using credit cards on: December 05, 2014, 04:28:41 AM
I've tried to use Purse twice, and both orders were cancelled by Amazon because the buyer used a fraudulent credit card.  Purse was good in both instances, though, recognizing the order cancellation immediately, and getting my back my bitcoins from escrow within a day or two.
This is probably an important feature. I don't think the orders were necessarily canceled because of a stolen credit card, as it is possible that the buyer was trying to scam you/purse out of bitcoin by placing the order then canceling it at the last minute to trick it into releasing the bitcoin to him without you receiving the order
310  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: There are only 5 exchanges which 24h trading volume over 1,000 on: December 05, 2014, 03:55:12 AM
all of the main futures exchanges have >1000 btc/day volume. if you want to trade rather than buy bitcoin to spend futures with leverage is where it's at  Cool
The problem with futures exchanges is that they employ huge amounts of leverage which would can potentially lead to large divergences from other exchanges (caused by margin calls) which potentially means that any trade you enter into will not profit based on the direction of bitcoin but rather has a much higher factor of luck
311  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading futures with 20x leverage... what a rush. on: December 05, 2014, 03:45:15 AM
The best way to trade theses things on those platforms is to make a new account as soon as you close a winning position.
that way you don't have any sozialization losses.
I would think that any trading platform/exchange would be able to monitor individuals via IP address/cookies.

Plus if an exchange that allows leverage is truly neutral to every trade then they would not need to socialize anything as the exchange would not end up loosing anything for any trade (assuming they can manage their risk appropriately and are able to close out positions before negative equity is reached)
312  Economy / Services / Re: I propose my services: check my skills list. 1BTC payment minimum. on: November 30, 2014, 09:43:05 PM
Hello,

I am proposing to get a job done for you. Only requirement is that you are willing to pay minimum 1BTC for that job. I may refuse the offer nonetheless.

Here are my skills:

- English (fluent)
- Spanish (fluent)
- French (Native)
- German (basic)
- Chinese (very basic)

5 Languages!! That's impressive!. If I knew that many languages I'd apply for a job of translator at the embassy. Good luck with your job hunt here.

Thx, but my german and chinese are not good enough for that Smiley

If your German and Chinese isn't good enough for that,

Then how is it good enough for a politician's speech?

It seemed obvious to me that if I wrote BASIC next to my language skill, no one would think I was proposing a speech in that language. But I was wrong, apparently. I wrote German and Chinese so a potential employer would know I could do some basic translation for simple texts in those languages. That's all Wink
I would say that you might as well remove them. There are a number of free translation services (google translate for example) that can preform, probably more then basic translations (although the grammar will not be 100% perfect, but anyone reading in either language can figure out what is being said).
313  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What if a large number of miners were suddenly forced to shut down? on: November 30, 2014, 09:40:31 PM
Yah, I think undersea cables would be least of worries for sunspot zap. Firstly the large majority are fibreoptic now, and secondly even a few feet of water is a fairly effective screen, so even copper would be protected from picking up stray RF.
Plus the water is able to effectively block solar waves. If you get deep enough in the ocean, it will be pitch black (assuming no light sources with you).

I don't think many of the undersea internet cables are made of copper anymore, they are most likely mostly made of fiber-optics.
314  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Kraken Taking Over MtGox !!! Aproved by the courts on: November 30, 2014, 09:38:11 PM
They are using their expertise to attempt to track down the missing bitcoin. Their participation in the gox case should not affect their normal operations
The hard drives from the Mt. Gox servers that will be delivered to Kraken, as part of this deal, will first be erased/reformatted. That is covered in court papers. I'm curious to know how Kraken plans to apply their expertise without ever being given unfettered access to the original data on those servers.  Are we merely supposed to take on faith that Kobayashi will tell Kraken everything they need to know; that is, should the results of the investigation essentially be a fait accompli--all you have to do is ask this lawyer what happened--then, why even bother having an investigation?
That makes no sense. What is the point of Gox even giving up their servers if they are going to erase everything before they are handed over?

Probably so they can say they gave over the servers, the wiping is for "customer protection" or some crap.  Not like our data hasnt been leaked already.
But that is not really handing over the servers. It is only handing over assets of gox (the physical machines). I am sure that Kraken would have executed a NDA that would prevent them from leaking any customer information
315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People can now buy Bitcoin using credit cards on: November 30, 2014, 09:36:16 PM
How do you get verified in purse? They have changed the layout and they do not have any faq or anything.

I did a purchase in amazon uk with a gift card 2 months ago and got the btcs in one day, but know they told me I need to verify my account.
I don't think you need to get verified with purse. AFAIK all you have to do is confirm your email and then provide the order # after you accept a deal/trade. Purse's automated system will monitor amazon's order tracking system to make sure the order is not canceled prior to delivery.

This is accurate as of ~3 weeks ago (it may have changed very recently)
316  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading futures with 20x leverage... what a rush. on: November 30, 2014, 09:23:06 PM
That is very risky. A 2% change in the market price against you will wipe out your entire equity. I would imagine that it would not be a good idea to stay in those kinds of positions for very long.

This is also a Chinese exchange, which in itself is risky as there are rumors regarding the solvency of chinese exchanges
317  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: arbitrage from btc-e to bitstamp - is it worth it? on: November 30, 2014, 09:18:32 PM
I wrote me a bot to check for this kinda arb, but never actually tried it, since I don't have the bank accounts to return the money.

This is the problem with trying to execute arbitrage. In order to do so that results in any kind of meaningful profits, you will need to transfer significant amounts of money through your bank account and this will likely result in your bank looking at your with suspicion and closing your account.
318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People can now buy Bitcoin using credit cards on: November 30, 2014, 08:48:25 PM
I don't get how any company can accept credit cards for bitcoin purchases because bitcoin transactions are irreversable and credit cards can be reversed. Can someone explain how this actually is a workable thing?
It's treated as a same as cash transaction and isn't easily reversible.
It doesn't matter if it is a cash advance or a traditional "credit" transaction, you have the same rights to dispute the transaction after the same timeframe.

I am not sure why so many people for some reason think that just because something is classified as a cash advance that the transaction is not reversible.
319  Economy / Reputation / Re: Vod Identity Found...If he has hurt you, join in. Do a service to all. on: November 30, 2014, 08:36:00 PM
Making threats online is a crime, one way or another. Before this threat post, has the op actually tried to negotiate with vod to get negative removed?

I don't think the threats are specific enough. KOS just says things like "you will be sorry" or "you will regret it" but never actually says that he will do physical harm.

KoS didn't even have any trust left for him by Vod.

he absolutely does imply physical harm:

Quote
that something bad will happen to you. Want to try me? I'm not going to prove to you that I know the name of the hotel because I'm going to let you think I don't know it. Two people you've left trust for me messaged me. I gave them that info. One of them actually lives in Mexico as well as the moneypak supplier you pissed off. See I'll be honest, when it comes to revenge and vindictiveness, I can't be beat. I'll easy pay someone double what I'm scammed for them to end up in the hospital by someone nearby them. Does that make sense? No, but I love revenge.

I will enjoy hearing the pain you endure on your trip, if you even make it back .

if I was Vod I would have already filed a criminal report.
Hmmm, maybe I read that post wrong. I think this is an example as to why it is bad to link your RL identity to your forum profile, especially when you make a habbit of calling out scams of others.
320  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for Private Lenders(Hard Money Loan) on: November 30, 2014, 08:29:15 PM
Wow I kinda laid to rest bitcoin interest in such deals,

Not a scam at all, your money is protected. I will explain, if you have questions please ask I love to talk real estate Smiley.

That is correct the lender will get the money back + interest. If that is how the deal is structured.
The second choice is whats called equity partners, this is when the lender and the flipper splits the profit 50/50 this is usually how it works for the first time. It is a way you prove to your money you can do the deal and make them money.
Now in response to the foreclosure, the simplest and easiest way to make a 0 cost foreclosure is to purchase the property under a LLC. The private money lender holds 51% of LLC so if the borrower defaults he can sell the property at any time. This cost 0 dollars and can be done in a matter of days.

BTW on the property listed above the person who purchased it made 26k off it after all costs.
Your LLC idea increases the risk to the lender. It would prevent the lender from going after the borrower personally, and this ability gives the borrower an incentive to repaying even if the project fails.

Also it appears that the lender is taking on the vast majority (90%+) of the risk but only sharing in 50% of the profit Huh this does not seem fair to me
