A good way to do this would be to allow a user to link their bitcoin talk account with their #bitcoin-otc rating and have their score displayed in place of the adjectives
For limited values of "good". Isn't pirateat40 still one of the highest-rated users on #bitcoin-otc?

I don't see why Matthew should have to leave or exit or whatever. His reputation is now well established, rightfully labeled, and he will be treated accordingly on this forum. So if he stays, time will pass, people will calm down, forget, or forgive, and he'll just have to rebuild his rep from scratch.
He's already done that once after being labelled a scammer previously. Anyone who believes him the third time, well...

This post was scarily accurate.

The thing that Wright miscalculated was the unintended cruelty of the tack he took. He inadvertently acted like a Nigerian scammer who swoops in after the initial con for the double dip. Some of the same, obviously misguided suckers, who "invested/deposited" with Pirate, looked to this bet as their chance to recoup some or all of their losses (even though anyone who collected 7 percent for a couple of months isn't a net loser). So by teaching his lesson, Matthew extended false hope to some foolish people. It's as if they fell for it all over again. There was nothing inadvertent or unintended about it. He knew that his bet was being used by BS&T "investors" in order to hedge their likely losses and not only continued to accept their bets but actually advertised it to them for that specific purpose.

I have no problem with the Scammer - even though I don't really believe his failure to pay on a bet meets the definition of a "scam" - tag being applied to Matthew because he agreed to that in advance. I have a huge problem with the fact that Matthew was given the tag within hours while the Bitcoinica guys still don't have scammer tags after many months.
Historically, I think the fastest way of getting a scammer tag was to admit that you were scamming someone. Matthew N Wright managed to do that in theatrical style with the attention of a large chunk of the forum upon him, and theymos himself was amongst those scammed. If anything it's surprising that it took that long.

I dunno, Matthew's been spending a lot of time trying to hunt down Atlas alts and get them banned. There'd be a certain irony in him being on the other end of that for much the same reason as Atlas.
Did Atlas ever try to scam people out of 10k's of Bitcoin? I don't follow his posts, so really don't know. I don't think anyone trusted Atlas enough to let him into a position where he'd have been able to pull that off, thankfully. The smarmy cleverness and the dubious attempts to weasel his way out of deals, on the other hand...

Matthew shouldn't be banned. We all know he'd just make new accounts. The scammer tag looks good on him. No reason to not let him show it off to the 14 people that don't have him on ignore.

reneg OK, I've been trying not to go all spelling nazi, but this seems to be breeding - it's spelled renege. Possibly that was part of Matthew's oh-so-clever plan too.

6: If you've got some brilliant idea that no-one else around you seems to be smart enough to grasp despite ample opportunities, such as trying to weasel out of a bet with some clever wording, there's a good chance the reason no-one else has done it is because it's a fucking stupid idea for reasons you're too dim to realise.

AAhhaahaha....SCAM. Please show where money switched hands, please. Two words: detrimental reliance.

Also, I believe some people with money in BS&T were using Matthew's bet as a way of hedging their losses and have lost money as a result, and Matthew not only knew this but encouraged it.

I can't easily remove that without modifying his post count.
Ah, OK. Oh well.

Speaking of which, Matthew still appears to be showing up as Hero Member as well as a Scammer. theymos, is it possible to fix that or is it baked into the forum software somehow?

Matthew committed fraud, plain and simple. While I'm personally only disappointed that I'm not getting 400 BTC, others used this bet as their main method of hedging against Pirate or made other investment decisions based on this bet because they trusted Matthew. Matthew has demonstrated that he is unworthy of anyone's trust. I guess I was right the first time. I have no confidence in [Matthew]'s sense of morality, and I will never trade with him.
Quoted for truth. What's more, Matthew not only knowingly accepted bets from people he knew were relying on them to hedge their BS&T investment, but was even specifically advertising that they could be used for that purpose.

There is no outs in his "interpretation".
Yep, no outs. IANAL but he knowingly made multiple fraudulent statements, upon which investors in BS&T relied to their financial detriment, having specifically advertised his fraudulent scheme to them with that explicit purpose. What's more, his antics right now are pretty good proof of intent to defraud. I'm not terribly surprised he hasn't paid out; that's why I never bothered hedging my bet. What I am surprised by is him thinking that this gives him some kind of out.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this bet. It was a great social experiment for me to find out who my true friends were, and also to entertain the community (which is my true purpose on these forums and always will be). Unfortunately, it looks like I lost the bet. This means I'll need to pay out exactly as described in my original thread OP. Many of the people betting were very careful to point out that others were ignorant and foolish to invest their money into Pirate without doing due diligence beforehand, so far as to call them shills, suckers, etc. This leads me to believe that the individuals betting in my bet are very wise with their money and would only bet if they carefully read and understood the rules of the bet. For this reason, I am confident that the very wise individuals betting in this thread will be satisfied with the very literal interpretation of my thread. I will begin paying for my losses as outlined in the following rule: If I lose the bet, you get 20BTC sent to that address (13dSK4663Ts7j2PwHS1eUVjycKLBwx7PJM). If you lose, you'll need to send 20BTC to my address.
I'll begin processing the payouts for each of the 112 betters in this spreadsheet immediately: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ajtx05YrHtIydFVHcGxLOExTbnhqajJLZmlSZUNtM3c&pli=1#gid=0Please make sure to following along for your own record keeping purposes. I will update this thread with each payment as well. Thanks again! And Matthew is indeed paying to http://blockchain.info/address/13dSK4663Ts7j2PwHS1eUVjycKLBwx7PJMFor the record, the reason we don't generally see this kind of trickery with contracts is that the courts take an exceedingly dim view of it. They do not interpret them in the way that Matthew is trying to do. Ever. He will still lose 2240 BTC if he honors his silly interpretation but that's irrelevant. Scammer is a scammer.
Nope: 16:53 < _matthew_> Says something about "Sending to self" 16:53 < _matthew_> I don't know what that means

Speaking of USB problems, think I just saw my first one. cm1 fell off the USB bus and had to be physically unplugged and reconnected. Even then it only came back up at USB 1.1 speeds. Nope it is over, indeed well and truly over, and it has been for while now, it was over even before it was over Nobody will get any money. It is just denial and all the other stages of grief left. It wasn't over until we found out just how many of the other investments that claimed to have nothing to do with Pirate had actually put large proportions of their money in BS&T. (Spoiler: quite a lot of them!) Huh. Apparently no such thing as nanoBitcoin or picoBitcoin. Ten nanoBTC is the smallest unit we have.
Yeah, you can't send Bitcoins in units smaller than 10^-8 BTC.

Good question. I use an old 230W ATX psu which provides 102W on 12V and 115W on 5V and 3.3V combined. Could the 5V and 3.3V lines be combined to 8.3V and used as a power source to tap into the unused 115W?
No, and you'll almost certainly blow up your power supply and/or start a fire if you try.
