Since this is the official AM speculation thread and we are expecting some self-/franchised-mining from AM. What are your predictions or expectations of the amount of hashing power the cat is going to set free? And what are your predictions for the according timeframes?
Seeing as how he is talking about the age of the Exahash and returning to 2013 levels, I would be extremely happy to be seeing 15-20PH from a Gen3 mine and ~100PH from Gen4. I think Gen4 is still some months (6?) or so around the corner. What gets me excited is the fact that he stated that 20PH/s would be possible inside China. That could give us 10% of the network already. And that was his conservative prediction when he still wanted to sell chips. If he now goes nuclear and indeed has found a good place and cheap electricity, we may very well see even more than 20 PH/s.

A few more after this price drop.
So you actually day-traded successfully? That's a rare thing. Most people tend to lose a substantial amount of their savings when they are panicking! Look into the Wall Observer thread! ShroomsKit claims he had 2 BTC just yesterday and traded his way down to 1 BTC now. Protip: you don't need to daytrade to buy more bitcoin. You can just buy (at night if you prefer). Very easy to do successfully, trust me. I've got a protip: never trust the guy that says "trust me" I'm confused right now. Is there anyone I should still trust around here? If so, who?

That is just epic ! Pure comedy level. It's pure Gold Jerry, Gold! I actually feel sorry for Shroomy. Because I know how that feels. I think almost everyone makes such a mistake when they're new to the stock market. You gotta learn from your mistakes. And I don't want him to quit coming to the thread.

I guess there are very good times ahead of us still. If you're just in for the pure price, you have to remember that institutional money will continue to flow. And once the ETF of the Winklevii has started, many traditional investors will have just the right vehicle to invest in Bitcoin.

Aren't secret agencies doing this all the time already? I hear about a story where the NSA? CIA? FBI? (can't quite remember) intercepted network switches and installed malware and spying devices on them! Totally insane thing to even think about!

Ha, wow awesome news! Didn't someone give their boss, this Jimmy guy some BTC? I wonder if that changed his mind. Usually they would reply in a way that discredited Bitcoin when you asked them whether they plan on accepting it.

Wow, interesting stuff right there! Yeah, I guess a lot of people just had a small stash lying around somewhere, maybe didn't even care about it anymore, only to discover that its value has grown enormously in the meantime! It's mesmerizing. Also, I think all those scams and stuff keeps the number of people down that manage to keep their stash. It's like a smoothing that happens on its own!

I've been lurking for a long time and figured I would finally post I have got to say that Bitcoin is totally awesome! I just purchased some bits and hosting all from my Nexus 5! The even more awesomer thing? I didn't have to enter any personal information! (Well, not entirely true: I did at Coinbase so I can buy bits instantly ) Anyway, thanks for creating this wonderful community. Welcome, Welcome! Yeah, Bitcoins are a great and awesome thing! It's amazing that it basically is real electronic cash. And no one transmits it for you, it is you who decides what to do with it.

Yeah, what are the features you like about all the altcoins. I think it's really interesting to see what features new coins have. People try to figure out the right mining (PoW, PoS, etc...) algorithm for their coin, they tinker with the retargeting algorithms and introduce unique features. It sure is a creative business!

Mining on a laptop is just fine if the laptop is connected to some external ASIC's of some sort. For example, I have my laptop currently hashing with a nanofury on an external USB hub. Way too much heat for my poor little laptop to handle when I plugged USB stick directly into USB port. If your talking about some old BFL gear you will be fine hashing on those from your laptop. The mining software in and of itself doesn't burn your laptop out. It's the actual process of using your CPU for hashing (as opposed to running a program that outsources that hashing) to someone else.
Yeah, you may want to buy some USB hubs in case you have USB Mining Sticks (they also draw a metric ton of power) or just an USB-extension-cord for the notebook computer to stay cool. If you don't want your computer to run 24/7 (which also draws a lot of energy) You may want to get a raspberry pi!

you can always sell drugs for BTC Yeah, well, I don't recommend doing that. That's most likely illegal and we've all seen what happened to the Silk Road marketplace. Why is it so hard for a lot of people to actually do some decent work and be content with an honest and just payment?
|
|
|
Yeah i am not planing to start any thing soon. I am trying to sell stuff currently once enough trust is made up and get some respect from community then and only then i will start.
That's a good sentiment right there. I think it's always an awesome thing if new people are interested in how things work in Bitcoin's ecosystem. And if you are a trustworthy person, we had one more good person here in the Bitcoin world to actually do something decent!

... AsicMiner, have had no experience with them. Is there anyone here who can share experience about AsicMiner?
Sure. Ha Awesome. Yeah, that really does sum up the performance and thus experience a lot of people had with that stock over the last year. But everyone keep in mind, that it may go up again, since friedcat (the boss) is going to announce news in 2 days. He will also start the self-mining again and intends to shake the mining world.

Back to self mining. I see, no one is actually fond of joining an already existing pool. If we had to join a pool, and there was no other way: Which pool should we join in your opinion?

the price rises from yesterday (still lower than a couple days ago) and everyone is in moon mode again. This place cracks me up. Volatility gets people excited. It's excitement that draws most people to the whole bitcoin thing. Even people like Jorge can't look away. Many people acutally do increase their stash by day-trading their way through those fluctuations. It's a gamble, but some just have the nerves and actually are successful in doing it. I just hold and am stoked I didn't do any stupid things yesterday.

why can't you write the keys down, or destroy the printer?
write down a private key is a bad idea, you write a 0 rather than an O and you have simply f**ked up your bitcoins, in this case an electrum seed can avoid lot of problems and it also contain unlimited addresses. You can for sure destroy a printer, but who knows if an attacker has already stolen the private keys? (dumping printer cache, man in the middle, etc...) Practically unlimited. Of course it is still limited by the actual entropy of possible bitcoin addresses. But yeah, electrum is a nice way. Although using it on an online machine makes it prone to the same old attacks.

I hate when the rallies pause! I want up.. bubble-style.
Bigger markets than bitcoin are also on the move. Big money is distracted. Give it time. If they can't seem to decide on where to put their money, why not put it in Bitcoin? Guaranteed bubbles every year or so, beautiful pictures of trains, rockets, moons... It's the dream!

The bears that were partying the other day may now be pretty hungover, that's true. But we're not safe yet. We may just as well go back down again. And also visit places even more south!
The overall trend since Christmas has been down, so yeah. Well, at Christmas we were still at bubble-levels, so what do you expect? It's quite well understood and accepted that a bubble has to wane off. I would've been surprised if it went the other way. It's not like this is the first time it happens. Newbies don't seem to get that.

Through $590 like a knife through hot butter! It really seems like we might just have crossed the resistance! Interesting times, indeed.
$590 still cold butter, need microwave Yeah, seemed a lot easier when it touched $590... I guess it's more like... frozen pudding or something. Bounced right off that thing. But even the best rocket needs to stop on its trip to the moon in order to re-fill!
