I have 2 of the same mobo.
Not sure the problem with yours...I installed 5 cards all at once, installed drivers and ran it.

Maybe your PSU?  What OS? What driver version? Do you have ALL the MSI drivers installed?

Also i burned out my coffe grinder making thermite any chance we'll see those in there?

Hah, not just a crypto-anarchist, but a regular ol' anarchist abiding by the cookbook we have here.

I'm sure there are legitimate uses for thermite. Wink  It is something even non-anarchists can enjoy.
Supposubly living in areas with high amounts of snow is a legitimate reason for owning thermite.
Which is understandable in my view but to the law diff story proububly.

It's just aluminum powder and rust right?  I guess they only become potentially illegal when you combine them? (I really don't know anything about the laws, I am sincerely asking).

Considering that for about a week a hate thread was recently floating at the top of this forum does anyone really care?

Kinda my thoughts also...it might help Bitcoin as a whole if people looking to get involved don't notice the troll infestation under this bridge.
64  Economy / Services / Re: [FREE] How to Hack your Wii to play games from SD/USB on: September 20, 2011, 02:50:50 PM
Why do people STILL use CIOSes when we have HW_AHBPROT flag that doesn't require hacking around with Custom IOSes that could brick your Wii?
(Waninkoko aka. Wanky is infamous for this, doesn't come as a surprise one of his custom PS3 firmwares caused a bunch of bricked consoles)

That, and you are a dick and giving Wii homebrew community a bad image if you are using this for piracy, remember, you can dump the ISO image yourself from your own Wii disc if you want to use the backup loaders.

You're truly naive if you think most people use this for homebrew applications. Developers are really scrambling to harness the "power" of the Wii  Tongue

I did it so that I could use my Wii as an Xvid/DVD player...I have barely ever used it for gaming anyways (except World of Goo, sidenote: you can use 2 controllers at the same time on World of Goo for the Wii, not so for PC)

I cannot speak for everyone else but for me my break even point is somewhere around $2-3/BTC...but that has to be the monthly weighted average before I will consider shutting down.  To me it matters very little what happens on a daily/weekly scale.

Also, I am not selling any BTC til prices are back in the range I deem "acceptable".  I would rather go all or nothing on my BTC holdings.

8/1 on the left, today on the right.  $4 at the bottom, $14 at the top.

Nice, thanks.  BTW, your chart is a very pleasant change from what normally pops up around here, just needs to be going up instead of down.
68  Economy / Speculation / Re: serious discussion on the strategy of the manipulator. Please no flame posts on: September 20, 2011, 09:09:53 AM

I'll bet you haven't seen a lot of charts like that.  Smiley  Resolution is 1hr/px X, $0.01/px Y.  Stare at it long enough and you'll start seeing when the major players move in and out of the market.

Edit:  Also, the funny pixelation you see around the trade line isn't JPEGing.  This is a PNG, pixel-perfect.  That's all real data.

Just curious (and too lazy to do the pixel math) how far does this go back...it's interesting and very informative.  I am glad to see someone is on their toes about the data tracking...btccharts is about as far as I go, which is also why I don't trade much.
69  Economy / Speculation / Re: 9/20/11 Speculation Thread on: September 20, 2011, 09:01:02 AM
I forsee 6.25$ USD/BTC by the end of the day.

No particular reason for the enthusiasm.

According to Bitcoincharts the Mt.Gox high was $6.26 at some point.

Merchants...hurry up!! Now is the time to start accepting BTC while the weighted price is low.  You will be very happy if you can make a few sales before the price increases.

Also, we need more merchants with raw materials for exchange...spread the word...we can all benefit if the people selling things can easily trade BTC for more materials to make things.  We need the Alpaca yarn not just the socks (just an example, I really don't want either personally).  Paying for groceries and rent with BTC may be a bit far off (for the majority) still but there is no reason to not be able to buy things like raw materials.  If you are currently working with purchasing anything online from any companies (electronic components for example) try to explain that x% of your sales are in BTC and you would really like to be able to exchange directly but be sure to point out why you prefer to accept BTC (no chargebacks and small fees is a good place to start).  In the long run this will make significantly more money for everyone.
71  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally incoming! on: September 20, 2011, 08:37:56 AM
A "drug currency" would be the US dollar.  That stupid Gawker article did nothing but damage Bitcoin in my opinion.  As far as "pyramid scam" I will just assume you have no idea what you are talking about.

I think you missed the quotation marks. But indeed the average online merchant will have no idea what you are talking about when you bring up bitcoin, and if he has, he might well associate bitcoin with drugs, scams, and malware,  that is a big part of the problem.

The reason its associated with those things is that people have made Bitcoin appear as though it is nothing but a "drug currency" or "scam".  The Gawker article was one of the biggest news pieces to come out about Bitcoin in the last few months.  Also, It might help a bit if the "official unofficial" forum wasn't full of FUD all the time.  A lot of people (or should I say user names) on this forum spend a disproportionate amount of time trying to discredit Bitcoin (typically new members with very few posts or people with 30+ posts a day).  Not to mention that "Allinvain" BS, talk about supertrolling, that did as much damage by being the number 1 Google trended topic related to Bitcoin than the Mt.Gox hack ever did (it really didn't help the 2 were so close together in time right when it was getting popular.  Coincidence?).

Bitpay is not the only option for payment on sites...there are many plugins for various types of CMS which allow you to accept BTC for near 0% fees.  Then your only fees are Mt.Gox fees and the cost of getting it from Mt.Gox to your bank (Dwolla $.25, even a bank transfer is cheap by the percentage if you transfer enough at a time).  If more people talked about those things there would be significantly more people using it to accept payments...not to mention sending money around the world.

People are scared of everything new...I remember 10 years ago my parents (and others) saying they would never do something as stupid as giving a credit card number to a website, now it is commonplace.

More important than the transaction fees is the fact that you cannot do a chargeback...that alone should bring in more merchants (if only it was pointed out more often).  Bitcoin to me is as safe (maybe safer) than cash due to the fact that you can encrypt your wallet.dat (and you can easily have multiple wallets offline).

If you think Bitcoin is great (like I do) spend time telling people about it.  Use it on your site if you can.  Most of all tell people about the good points or your good experiences and don't be a scammer.  Let people know that if you use it properly it's as safe as any other form of payment (maybe safer in some ways), if you continually bring up the FUD about malware, scams, and pyramid schemes that's all people will know.

As has been said before, Bitcoin needs to be used for more than just day trading.  It needs to be a means of exchange of goods/services also.  We are all involved in something very interesting and experimental that could possibly change the way people conduct business online.  Fear and greed are the only things that can bring it down.
72  Economy / Speculation / Re: serious discussion on the strategy of the manipulator. Please no flame posts on: September 20, 2011, 02:52:32 AM

...if the price was higher you would need higher swings (or significantly more money invested) to create the same profit.

No you don't! A $.50 rise x 1000BTC is $500 whether it's $1/BTC or $100/BTC! The volume is where you make money!

Correct...but the initial investment is more (1000BTC @$5 makes only a $5k risk, whereas 1000BTC @ $20 is a $20k risk).  Also, percentage wise you would need to not only invest more but also make a greater swing to make the same percentage of initial investment.  It's easier to manipulate a $.50 swing @ $5 than it is to make a $2 swing @ $20.  In my opinion it's not about the profit made but the profit vs. initial investment.

Obviously, I am not a market genius...just using my logic and seeing what I would do if I had the ability/money to "game" the market.
73  Economy / Speculation / Re: serious discussion on the strategy of the manipulator. Please no flame posts on: September 20, 2011, 12:41:56 AM
Profit by leverage.  If you have enough leverage a $.50 swing can make you quite a bit...especially if you can do it over and over.  A $.50 swing when the price is $5 is 10%, if the price was higher you would need higher swings (or significantly more money invested) to create the same profit.  It benefits those with leverage to have the price at a certain "mid-ground" in order to keep the investment total and possible profit just where they need it.

74  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally incoming! on: September 20, 2011, 12:03:23 AM
I would say that bit-pay allows a merchant not to lose money by accepting Bitcoin, which is not a bad deal right now.

Its a start I guess, but at those rates, not much of an incentive for more established online merchants, particularly when you consider how small the target audience still is. For niche products like.. , say, alpaca socks, it might be good as the free publicity that they get would make it worth it, but the 0.x% lower fees (if that, Im not even convinced) isnt going to entice many to invest a lot of time and research in accepting a "drug currency" or online "pyramid scam".

Then again I imagine if Amazon or newegg where to give them a call, those 2.99% would be negotiable. Smiley

A "drug currency" would be the US dollar.  That stupid Gawker article did nothing but damage Bitcoin in my opinion.  As far as "pyramid scam" I will just assume you have no idea what you are talking about.

There is a lot to be gained by a method of trade which bypasses international exchange rates, credit card processing fees and chargebacks all at the same time...not to mention the difficulty in counterfeiting and the ability to carry millions of dollars on a flash drive if you so choose.  If you cannot see the potential then don't invest, I currently have nothing in stocks for that reason...the stock market does nothing but hurt the economy (in my opinion) and next time they mess up I doubt the US will be able to bail them out.  That is the best thing about Bitcoin in my opinion...the option to fail.  Everything should be allowed to fail if needed otherwise how can we ever improve.
75  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why now? on: September 19, 2011, 11:36:38 PM
Obviously it's not.  I've just observed it behaves that way.

There is a simple solution - if you find your instinct trades are constantly screwing you over, stop trading on emotion. When you really think "all is lost I should (buy/sell/kill myself)", just stop and don't do anything. Take a cold shower, look at TA graphs, think with a clear head, then act Smiley Trust me it'll save you more than in one situation in life.

I agree...anytime anything starts to look bad I go work on something else.  At least then if everything fails there is a backup, if not then all is good, if it stays the same nothing is lost.  Panic gets you nowhere, listening to the doomsayers gets you broke (even if some of them are right sometimes the majority are not).  The market price got close to my break even point on mining (it would take a monthly weighted average of $3 or less to make me consider shutting down my rigs) but I stayed in, didn't sell and found other ways to make up for the "loss".  I expect it to pay off, if not I really have learned a lot through all of this (I had never attempted a multi-gpu rig before this let alone one with 5 gpu's or wiring 2 psu's to a computer) and the amount of loss I would be taking if BTC were to go to $0 today is minimal...actually I would probably still turn a profit.

LED lamps:

too expensive, price will come down.
many are poorly designed and lack of customization options, that is why DIY is still popular.
pretty darn butt ugly hanging above a tank in many cases compared to ATI T5 for example.
buying now means you are stuck with a model that may very well be improved in many ways in the next 1-3 years.
resale value will be poor as price comes down leaving you with undesirable older model.

but that is just my opinion. i still prefer ATI kits and bulbs. proven track record and stylish.
eventually i will go LED in the future.

Yep...too expensive...a few years ago I looked into commercially building some using Cree 1W LED's (blue and red).  The main problem is that the LED's are like $3+/bulb and you need about 100 to make a 400W equivalent.

Basically, the main benefit of the LED's is that you are only creating the spectrum that the plants use...they appear green because they reflect the green light, so the solution is to not produce the green spectrum at all.  A properly tuned LED system should make the plants appear close to black (right?).  Also, you can put them a lot closer to your plants than HID/HPS.

The directional nature of LED lighting and low power usage per lumen is another huge benefit...I would only use them if power consumption, space, bulb life or heat was a major concern.

If I were to do anything in the indoor horticulture field I would probably use a combination of the increased blue/red spectrum HID's to get a gain in the "useful" spectrum.

I have heard good things about the T5's.

78  Economy / Goods / Re: selling lots of computer parts for cheap! on: September 09, 2011, 12:03:32 AM
It looks like the Sempron and all others will not fit into a normal AM3 motherboard.  I think some pretty uncommon boards are AM2/AM2+/AM3 and only take DDR2 but a regular, straight up AM3 board wouldn't take it.  They added like 3 pins but changed more than that so the board has to be adapted to take both and when some hardware modding place decided to remove the extra pins so it'd fit, it didn't work Tongue  You might want to check the QVL but something like this ungodly ugly board:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157202

would take any of the AM2 chips and since it's ancient technology, they're practically giving them away.

And apparently BTC -> USD kinda sucks right now but on the anticipation that that isn't permanent, I could do the 320GB drive for

EDIT I totally quoted a yet to be listed 320GB desktop hard drive in case you already saw this so the new answer for the laptop hard drive is: 4.25 BTC.  That's a lot lower than the typical ebay prices but considering what I'd owe to them and Paypal, it's about right.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157204

I have one of these...supports both types of processors and also will use DDR2 or DDR3.

At the top under "total BTC".

Ideally, 7200BTC/day mined.  6 blocks/hr, 50BTC/block.

I need a few recommended power supplies to power 4x 5770s and the system of course. It is running on a evga 680i with Pentium D processor with a sata hd.

My recommendation.
