981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Serious Concern: The Rise of "Other" bitcoin miners? on: June 10, 2011, 11:15:15 PM
http://www.bitcoinwatch.com/

Anyone concerned that the "Other" portion of mining operation has skyrocketed in the past 24 hours?  This is an order of magnitude increase.

Is it possible that a private or governmental agency could be doing this to 'fork the block' and destroy BTC?

So what you're saying is that because someone other than you is mining bitcoins it must be a government conspiracy? Thats fucking insane, man.

How do you propose that the government or other interested party is going to shut this down?  Go over to BTC Bank politely knock on their door and ask for them to cease and desist?

Again the fact you automatically assume that because something isn't exactly what you expect you assume the government is somehow out to get you just shows how deluded you are, jesus christ. It's people like you that make everyone think that bitcoin is just for anti-establishment anarchists.

Its stated very clearly in paypals acceptable use policy that you must not use paypal for currency exchanges.

https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/AcceptableUse_full&locale.x=en_US

That means if you've used paypal in any way connected to currency exchanges (even virtual currency, as confirmed by paypal accounts getting locked for purchasing WoW gold) it's likely to get you in trouble somewhere down the line.
983  Other / Archival / Re: Silk Road: anonymous marketplace. Feedback requested :) on: June 10, 2011, 11:00:47 PM
Silkroad is going to be the downfall of bitcoin. It attracts too much attention to it.
984  Economy / Economics / Re: I want you to have a look at this graph on: June 10, 2011, 10:51:38 PM
My god people!

You don't need to know economics (I don't) to know why this has to be a log graph!

OMG 1USD buys 80Yen! The Yen is so weak against the dollar!

Well... no. The numbers are just our arbitrary representation of "value". What really matters is if the Dollar is worth 50% more Yen than it was before.

Therefore it's the percentages.

So going 1, 10, 100 etc (a logarithmic scale) is exactly the data that matters, rather than some nominal number with nothing backing it for comparison.

Using a log graph doesn't prove anything, it merely displays the data in a different way. Regardless of how the data is displayed the point is the same, the bitcoin rose in value by close to 3000% in an *extremely* short timescale, which is incredibly fucking bad in a currency.

989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is what happens when someone dumps a lot of BTC quickly on: June 10, 2011, 08:00:44 PM

Luckily the additional sales from bitcoins being cheaper should easily counter out all the sellers right?

Looks like some left wing liberal socialist has crashed the market with his terrible understanding of how real free market economics work and crashed the market, god fucking damnit.
