The question you asked is a good one. I personally take a rest from crypto regularly, for example in each 2 months I take a rest of around 2 weeks, putting my money to Waves, Nav, ETC, BTC and some other big market cap coins. After that, it becomes a fresh start.

If you will not trade and hold, or hodl, you can consider NAV, WAVES and ETC for the long term investment. I suggest you to have a small portion of your money on some good small market-cap coins as well.

Consider XRB and PHR for 2018. XRB has a good project, I put a big portion of my investment to it.

I suggest my friends to start with very small amount of money and considering it as if it is 10x value of it. For example, put 100$, consider that you have invested 1000$ and make operations, to learn trading and exchanges. Waves, in my opinion, has a good potential. I am investing a big portion of my money to waves right now, and some waves tokens as well (wct, mrt, oceanlab)

I want to note that if you are selling tokens via etherdelta, using your private key, it is a good choice to open a new wallet and send valuable tokens to that wallet. Mew works quite well.

High BTC value scares me, I think the price may return to 6k USD again. So I think this is a good time to buy some altcoins.
