21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Introducing PiCoin - early mining! on: January 04, 2023, 11:31:18 AM
It seems this is the only topic on PiCoin, is anybody actively mining this?
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it reasonable to start a new GPU mining farm right when eth 2.0 is so close? on: September 01, 2021, 04:58:45 AM
Oh wow, that's a big bunch Smiley

Thanks for the article.
23  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Has crypto cloud mining got market? on: August 31, 2021, 01:32:01 PM
Since the bitcoin prices are again close to its ATH, how is the cloud mining not profitable now? If they can't make profits now, they will never make profits. Sorry I think you are bullshitting.

They're (in general) limited by a few things. One is electric price, but assuming have sorted that at a low enough point, they need to buy miners. Now Bitmain (the biggest) has mostly only pre-orders and will cater to specific larger customers, but it's not as easy as walking into a store and getting hardware. So they're limited by the capacity they can sell.
Then on top, difficulty isn't the same. So a miner that is less efficient (because best one on the market wasn't available) will be making a loss sooner. Besides hashnest I haven't seen anybody sharing what machine you're buying into.

Then there's the surrounding costs, management, uptime, facilities etc. It's not impossible but more probable someone would run them themselves and not share, at least that has been the idea of many with most cloud mining companies so far.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it reasonable to start a new GPU mining farm right when eth 2.0 is so close? on: August 31, 2021, 01:03:25 PM
Anyone catch the news about 485000 RX 470 8GB gpu's being returned to a mining company after being confiscated in China when their bans went into effect?

All those gpu's for just one company affiliate in China to mine Ethereum coming back online when they setup a new location.

That's a 5-10% increase in hashing power from what the current one is.

Got a link to an article about it?
25  Other / Archival / Re: Binance introduces KYC for all users on: August 30, 2021, 09:28:28 AM
Nothing new or special for the regular binance users. If you are using binance for a long time, you must have participated in IEO's and P2P dealing. For all this , we need to have KYC and most of the people accounts may already have been KYC approved. I don't think it will create much panic expect for the few who will never want KYC ever.

Binance's attemps to avoid strict regulation says it's not only a few, like moving from one country to another, branching out strict places like US and most recently, trying the .06BTC band-aid solution.

In my opinion, it's not just avoiding stricter regulation on Binance. They are connected with the "real world" of finance and they are regulated.
So in this case the regulations for banks regarding KYC and AML seep into Binance. We've seen this with UK banks blocking payments to Binance, but as long as they're not "trusted" enough for banks, it'll keep happening until they have accepted a similar level.
As long as you will be able to transfer fiat to Binance, they'll be communicating vessels with the banks, also on KYC requirements.
26  Economy / Exchanges / Re: According to the SEC, Binance is under investigation by the US federal governmen on: August 30, 2021, 08:49:46 AM
The document presented in the tweet doesn't say anything at all along the lines of your accusation, so your title is misleading and even malicious. "According to the SEC" is definitely putting words to their mouth. That's not just unfair; that's illegal.

The letter is only saying (1) they're withholding the records you are requesting, (2) they're not disclosing the existence or non-existence of an investigation, (3) they're not asserting that Binance is involved in any legal violations.

The main point of the letter is that your request is not granted.

Yeah, was going to say, every FOIA law has exemptions regarding making information public, so this letter says zero about Binance.

Out of curiosity, would you still recommend the L3+? As I've got my 3 out of retirement to run a bit more and expect to re-retire them by November when the L7+'s will hit the market (or October when Bitmain is "testing" them). But that's with 15-20 cents EUR electric pricing, for most of the year. If the difficulty will triple (which is the lowest of my expectations) unless LTC goes 3 times up, I don't see them running much longer.
To be honest, I doubt that the cost of Litecoin will triple, otherwise the capitalization of the entire market should be 5 or 6 trilons, which seems to me a colossal figure. So I suppose L3 + will become obsolete by this time ... especially considering the very high cost of electricity. By the way, when you talked about Bitman, what did you mean? It's just that I have heard more than once from different people the myth that before the delivery of equipment, Bitman uses new equipment for some time, in fact, sending the used goods.

Well, LTC has been double today's price before, but yeah, triple would be a stretch.

Regarding Bitmain, I've seen from several people that they got machines that had dust on the fans when taken out of the box. Haven't had this myself, but I'm not a hardware buyer. Plus there have been reports on spikes in difficulty up to a month before shipping was scheduled for the first batch. No hard evidence, at least not of recent date.

From a QC perspective, you'd want each machine to run at least a day to verify nothing is the matter, the question is how long they "take" this "day" for testing. I could argue 7 days is a reasonable testing period too for quality control with mining machines like these.

Then, from a business perspective, it would be insane not to have machines you promised to deliver 3 weeks from that day run as part of the "quality control" when they're basically printing money at a 4 times higher rate than any other machine on the market.

So summarizing, I'd be surprised if they didn't do any runs before shipment.

<snip>

Yeah. I would suggest a mixed farm

A few L3+ rigs to mine LTC and Doge.

A few gpu rigs and maybe a few BTC rigs.

So is it a matter of electric pricing for now?
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Scrypt miner? on: August 26, 2021, 01:33:37 PM
Well, at the moment I've taken my L3+'s out of retirement. They're averaging 0.05 LTC per day on litecoinpool each.
Tuned them down to use less electricity, so they're at 600-660 Watt. Then with electricity at 0.15 usd it's still worth it, especially if you pay in half a year and LTC appreciates in the mean time.

You could maybe pick some second hand ones up? The next batch of Scrypt miners is going to be sent out by October and November, which will be 3425 Watt for 9500 Mh/s, so a third of the W for your Mh.

Is your electricity cheap? Then the L3+ will still be of some interest if you can buy them cheap secondhand.

Oh, and keep in mind that if you heat with electric you could spend a bit on silencing them, so you can heat with them too and spend "less" on the mining.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What old coins are you still holding? on: January 29, 2021, 02:23:01 PM
Really want to talk old coins??... I guess I still have LTC. Even though they are really being left behind by other new names in the industry, I still think they show some pretty insane moves to comeback up. Volumes will be there for sure.

Ha, same here, I sold a bunch back in the days at 2 USD, and had kept a few in another wallet, pleasantly surprised about the value now Smiley
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is there nobody talking about DOGE? on: January 29, 2021, 02:21:13 PM
The whales behind doge are really doing a great job pumping that shitcoin to be in 12 rank in cmc, who would have thought dogecoin will have such attention, i remember back in 2015/16 i use to have millions of dogecoin and i exchange for something else Cry  if i had known the whales will eventually push it up i would have kept my dogecoin in lock and key  Grin

I've been doing the same thing, clearing out old hdd's recently to get all old wallets in one place. Now the wallet is syncing and it's at 1.2 mio right now. None of the addresses that have that have anything in them anymore, so can't buy a house with DOGE Smiley
32  Economy / Services / Re: Crack my bitcoin wallet address and get 0.155 btc + 0.5BTC on: January 09, 2021, 12:24:40 PM
I think no one here has even come close to finding the private key yet. I don't understand why the publisher doesn't share it

With every day passing it gets more interesting to try and crack it Wink
33  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: December 12, 2017, 02:28:00 PM
You've already asked the question once, in the right place. I don't think you provided enough coherent information to get much of an answer, so maybe you should go back over there and elaborate on your problem instead of posting here and way the heck off topic.

It's simple I want examples of local mining that works

this product only funtoin with a pool ?

"local mining that works". Whut?

I've just moved my last big amount in the Miningfield pools, I was wondering if I could move my wallet to an RPi, as my wallet isn't on all the time on my laptop.
Found this one: https://bit.diamonds/community/index.php?topic=85.0

But is there a more recent version of a manual to set it up? This way I can add a node to the network and keep the Miningfield payouts staking without having to leave my laptop on.

https://github.com/DMDcoin/Diamond/blob/master/doc/raspi_headless_compile

Thanks, I'll be setting it up next weekend, another fire and forget thing off my list Wink

Thanks, but my question is how long will it take til I can receive my staking rewards? How many hours/ days does it take?

deepens on the coin ammount u have and the coin pile size

rule of the thumb:

200 DMD stake once a week
100 DMD once every 2 weeks
50 DMD once a month

but to reach that results u still need ur wallet in staking mode online 24/7
because u can only reach such average values if u constant try to find a POS block

Has anyone used a raspberry cluster for mining?

I thank you!

For mining with machines that are controlled by the RPi? Or mining with the RPi itself?
37  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ebit e9 miner with 6.8Th/s from Ebang company a new rival for existing producers on: October 26, 2017, 06:21:25 PM
Does anybody have had this problem and able to solve it with the Ebit E9 Plus 9Th/s miner?

Fans are not spinning at all.

0 rpm.

These are brand new  Ebits.

I'm wondering if this is a hardware or a software issue.
These are hosted, so I'm not able to inspect them directly.

Nothing happening at all? Or is it showing no number for the fan speed?
38  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: sound proofing for avalon 741 ,or 721 or 6 on: October 26, 2017, 10:46:01 AM
<SNIP>

I didn't see this material before, can you guesstimate what the effect is for the sound? Level of sound so to say.

It lsolates the psu from the miners.  Good for shorts. And will not burn.

It does not lower the sound much but I would guess 1db.
I liked the short protection it gives more then the better sound. This is the red rubber pad.  Between the miner and the psu

Ah, that makes sense. I've been experimenting with growing peppers inside in a well regulated basically wooden box. I had both the ventilation to refresh the air as ventilation through the box to "force the plants" to grow stronger as I was simulating wind that I wanted to muffle. 1db is still nice though, but I do see, for the mining, the added benefit of preventing shorts Smiley

Cant really blame them though trying to cash in. When Japan hit the scene next year this lot will be obsolete.

You cannot calculate the real % of efficiency by comparing the nm-shrink-percentage.
It is possible that the difference is not as dramatic as people speculate.
That' a fair point. I don't know why people expect bitmain not to mass produce a good product and moan about difficulty levels, I'm not worried. Everyone's really in it for the money aren't they?

You'll be hardpressed to find someone who's buying the machines for their excellent aesthetics or their golden voice Wink

just got invoice off Fedex , 232.50 VAT

Ah, not unexpected. Just disappointing Wink

They're quick to be honest.
