Has Dnotes2.0 been released and what are the enhancements you foresee in the next 3.0 release?

Hi mmmmyah, thanks for dropping by.

DNotes 2.0 has not been released yet, we are doing additional C# conversion to the code than we previously thought was needed. We are hoping to release as soon as possible, before the end of this year. There will be numerous modular upgrades in the works as part of our 2.0 upgrade to come in 2018 as part of our platform to allow tokenized assets to be deployed on the DNotes blockchain. We have a roadmap on the first page of this thread here that you can view:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1924858.0

You can review our progress of the 2.0 upgrade at our our Github here:

https://github.com/DNotesCoin/DNotes-2.0

Welcome mmmmyah to the DNotes forum! Our roadmap outlines the general direction we are headed in the 2018 & Beyond section. From the technology standpoint we will continue to develop sensible upgrades that support DNotes as a currency, expand on our blockchain's capabilities and usability, and upgrades that best support the needs of users. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Open question for everyone, which has more value:

A bitcoin comprised of one input, or a bitcoin comprised of one million inputs?

Is it the same?

Although they retain the same face value, in theory the bitcoin comprised of one million inputs would have much less utility value because the fees on a transaction with so many outputs would be much greater than that of a single bitcoin left in tact, where only one output is required to send any given amount.

Yep, transaction fees get complicated in this scenario as far as how much of it can be actually spent. Coming up with a transaction fee structure that is useful for the user while being beneficial to the network is more difficult than it may appear at face value as a result of the blockchains transaction structure.

Absolutely, this will be a game changer for DNotes. There are many upgrades we are working on, but the change regarding the reward structure is certainly one of the the most significant in the near term. There is no additional requirements to receive the CRISP rewards, .1666% monthly and 4% annually, even if your wallet is offline. The 2% staking reward will require a wallet that is actively running to support the network.

So if I'm correct we can earn 8% compounding interest annually? This is great news especially with all these hyip programs popping up in every corner of the internet. This is guaranteed interest and no need to worry about loosing your hard earned money.

For the 2% staking reward. Will it also work if we store our coins in the DNotesVault wallet or will we have to install a wallet on our desktops and keep it running if we want to get this 2% reward. Could you please explain this for me. Regards,

The 2% staking reward requires you to run a full node via desktop wallet.

That is correct, and yep 8% plus compounding. We are planning on having a program where DNotesVault users can have their staking privileges deferred to another wallet. So if you have a DNotesVault account, there will be an option to fill out a form and request that your staking privileges are deferred to a desktop wallet you may be running, or to a wallet running on a cloud server for instance. In this manner you would be able to keep your DNotes safe at the DNotesVault while running a separate wallet specifically for staking, with no actual coins in the wallet you are deferring the staking privileges to.

Hi BTCwise,

The DNotes will not be locked, they can be withdrawn anytime. If you withdraw early, you lose the interest for that month.
The interest is compounding, because it is paid out monthly.
There will be no initial exchange functionality in the wallet, but this is something that is part of our overall ecosystem for the future.

Thanks TeeGee, that sounds great. The exchange will be something great and potentially a game changer for DNotes. People like convenience. Thanks for the reply.

I'm sure the idea of putting away small change into DNotes will get even more attractive once DNotes2.0 enables the investment and staking rewards.

Hi Tim, could you please explain the investment and staking rewards. Thanks in advance Smiley

Hi BTCWise, I'll shoot a short answer here explaining the process.

One of the biggest changes in DNotes 2.0 is the reward structure. Moving from PoW where miners are paid from the blockchain directly for securing the blockchain by utilizing processing power to solve computational problems, to PoS where you utilize your coins to secure the blockchain and paid directly from the blockchain.

Another change to reward structure is the addition of blockchain based CRISP distribution. By simply saving your coins in a wallet, you will receive interest, .1666% monthly (2% annual), as well as 4% annually.

As Tim was suggesting, these two changes will make it more attractive to save your DNotes. First by removing the need for miners that have to invest in hardware and electricity to support the network causing burden on the market, and second by rewarding those who save their DNotes.

Please let us know what you think.

Great designs BTCWise!

Tough choice. I like both styles, but if I have to choose a favorite, Design 1 wins by a slight margin.   Smiley

Good deal, we'll go with that one. It certainly has a bit more brand recognition.

Nice to see some screens and results of the work
But I think that some things not very good:
- background images it bad (i agreee with above posts)
- label "Welcome to Dnotes wall" on blue backround with frame - it bad (look like 2px width but other frame 1px) and color not good also
- may be make fullscreen wallet?
- where import/export statistics possibilities? for example export to excel some infromation
- pages need more informative (for example quick help in right part of windows)
I think  you need develop android wallet too

Thanks sl-avik!

All great suggestions. It is pretty crude at the moment, as we build in more of the functionality. Import / Export will be a great add on as well that wasn't on my radar. Tim will be working with a designer to make a mock graphic as well.

Tim, if you would keep a list of the suggestions for the graphical end as well.

Question, is DnotesPool PROP or PPLNS?  Tried to ask on the site but the "Contact" form has a permissions issue and blows up.

Hey RJF, it's Prop. I tested the contact form again, seems to go through for me, but I'll see if we can find a problem. Otherwise you can email the pool owner directly at info@dnotespool.com

The new wallet looks interesting. Have you thought about directly integrating it with the Vault? You could have a "Vault" tab with a sub menu for Vault balance and functions to easily move funds back and forth. On the surface you might not think there would be much use but, consider it like recharging a debit card or taking money out of your savings account and moving it to your checking account. All kinds of cool things you could add to the wallet if you tied it to a vault account.

Lets take it a step further, automatic payments. Include the ability to add addresses to which the user would set auto payouts at preset times. Go a step further and allow the user to make these payouts at will, or on a schedule, and get a report on demand or an email when a payment is made. Maybe in the future it could incorporate different currencies. Just a thought, look at the wallet as a money control system, a place multiple currencies and functions can be added in modular form.

I think this kind of functionality will be important as crypto is adopted mainstream as payments and online transactions with brick and mortar businesses becomes common place. Dnotes could truly be a pioneer while others add technical features most casual users will never understand, Dnotes truly becomes the "Peoples Coin" with easy to use everyday solutions to managing digital money.

Now, as this upgrade progresses, would be the perfect time to at least build in the basic code to accomplish these functions even if you are not ready to take this kind of stuff live. That way you would be ready and could add modules easily. Just some thoughts on the future...

Thanks RJF! Great suggestions! We are definitely on the same page, we would like to make the UI of the wallet and the vault eventually mimic each other to get the same user feel and functionality as well as look into integration. DNotesVault integration as well as all of our other services integrated right into the wallet, as of this update we would like to at least have a DCE and DNotes news feed.

I think wallet design could be better , it doesnt looks like wow. Maybe pictures are not good enough(not professional) or maybe wallet doesnt  need it at all . Just look at stratis breeze wallet it is cool .

I think the intention of these screenshots was to give everyone an idea of what features will be included and the basic layout. If you have any suggestions for the final design, I'm sure the team behind the scenes would be very appreciative to hear them.

Thanks erv and amalgal! Yep that is correct, these are not professionally designed as of yet, more of just an update on the progress. We do plan to skin the wallet once we are done with the front end. We welcome any suggestions.

Atomic Swap Between Bitcoin and Ethereum (on a test net)

So it looks like the Altcoin Exchange team have successfully swapped BTC for ETH in an atomic swap. From my understanding of the process, this is a direct swap enabled and enforced by code without any requirement for a third party.

https://news.bitcoin.com/altcoin-exchange-performs-first-atomic-swap-between-bitcoin-and-ethereum/

If this holds up to scrutiny, survives the testing process, and is brought mainstream, it is a game changer in the cryptocurrency industry.
"The Altcoin Exchange team transferred 0.12345 ETH for 0.12345 BTC using an on-chain open source process. Altcoin Exchange plans to launch the project’s Github repository this Tuesday, the company’s CEO Andrew Gazdecki told news.Bitcoin.com"

When China told their exchanges to shut down, they also demanded that their files be sent in to the government on compact discs. I'm romantic enough to be disappointed that the cryptocurrency files weren't demanded on punch cards. But even so, exchangeless swaps mean that personal details stored by the exchange when you login, aren't linked to your swap.

It also has the ability to hamper or completely obstruct other attempts to regulate aspects of the cryptocurrency industry. If you can swap bitcoin for ethereum without an exchange, then you can invest in ICOs from a country that is trying to block them by closing exchanges.

Exchanges will still be required for match making purposes. But because that is all they might be doing, setting up and running an exchange would be much cheaper, and not require users to trust them, or even have an account with them. It would be more like a search engine for open offers.

But ultimately, I believe the most significant effect will be increased public trust in cryptocurrencies. Many people who are concerned about investing in cryptocurrency worry about news of bitcoin being stolen. But stealing a cryptocurrency is much harder than stealing cash or property. The news of stolen bitcoins comes from exchanges, and many believe they are inside jobs. If exchanges give way to atomic swaps made simple by building the functionality into wallets, we won't be hearing any more news about hacked exchanges. Trust in cryptocurrencies will rise dramatically.

I was certain I'd never leave my money in an exchange because of all the negative press. But when I read that DNotes Vault held an equivalent duplicate balance in cold storage, and I looked up that address and found the DNotes sitting there, I decided to trust them. And while I understand that a DNotes Global Inc run exchange is on the road map, if atomic swaps remove the need for this, I don't see it harming their long-term vision of making DNotes a cryptocurrency for daily use. It would just mean someone solved a problem along that journey.

I'd be interested to know if provisions to enable atomic swaps have been designed into DNotes2.0

Thanks for sharing the link with great comments. This is another technology advancement that will make it impossible for the government to shut down decentralized digital currency. However, I don’t think that it will put the likes of Coinbase and Poloniex Exchange out of business anytime soon.

We have been studying both decentralized and full-services exchanges closely. At this point, I am inclined to believe that there is a need for both - integrated with various other exchanges to include the exchange of fiat currencies as well. DNotes’ model is to use the best technology that is most beneficial to our users and stakeholders. Our current ecosystem coupled with decentralized/centralized exchange, bank, partner banks, and multi-currencies card will differentiate us from our competition. Central to its success is the trusted brand of DNotes. After trust is; convenience and ease of use. Those factors will remain as our focus.

How do you guys think regulators might react to decentralized exchange models?

There will likely be push back as there is no central authority there is no one to report back on the users, but ultimately I don't believe they will try to block it. At some point the currency has to reach an off ramp into the real world, whether that be a bank, a fiat exchange, or a store. Live exchanges between users will only go so far before those coins reach an off ramp. The data is all there, on the blockchain, and eventually reaching some form of third party. At least for now. The rules and regulations may have to adapt to new technologies, and that has been true since the beginning of organized society, and will continue for as long as organized society exists. There is no reason, other than fear of the unknown or misunderstanding, to attempt to block new technologies because it's difficult to put rules and regulations in place. Rules and regulations are there to serve people and what they want, not to hinder them.

If there is going to be swap....on what exchange then

Hi Hardniola, and welcome to the DNotes forum. DNotes held at the Vault will automatically be swapped for the new 2.0 without the holder having to do anything. This streamlined conversion is a necessity as a good portion of our stakeholders don't have the tech skills required for the typical cryptocurrency swap. There will be a process announced for swapping any DNotes not held at the Vault, but as far as I know nothing has been finalized yet.

If you are worried about missing the swap details and deadline, you can sign up to receive the DNotes Newsletter:

http://dnotescoin.com/newsletter-signup/   Smiley

I do have a question once the swap take place in the DNotes Vault and that is once the coins are swapped for the new DNotes coin will they still earn the interest like the current DNotes do now in the vault? I currently have all my DNotes in the vault because of the interest that is paid on storing them so I hope this continues with the new DNotes. Thanks.

Hey Vella85

The swap will include changes to the way interest is paid out through DNotes Vault.

DNotes 2.0 will have two avenues to earn interest. The first is through the change to Proof Of Stake algorithm, where you can earn ~2% annualized interest. The second is by storing your coins at the DNotes Vault -- there will be a 0.166% monthly interest paid out for every 30 days you store your coins there (which works out at ~2% per year), and an additional 4% paid out every time your coins reach 365 days in the vault. If you take advantage of all of these, you can earn up to 8% per year. DNotes Vault funds can be remotely staked (cold staking) by a node running on a remote computer so make this possible.

We're looking very forward to the release of DNotes 2.0, and are very pleased with the incentive structure it will provide to savers. DNotes recognizes that savings and investment are cornerstones of healthy economies and personal financial health.

Thanks TeeGee, So I can just leave my DNotes in the vault and not have to doing anything as the swap will be done by the dev team right? I'm happy with leaving them in the vault and earning that monthly interest and I'll even earn the bonus for the 365 days as I plan to hold my DNotes for a very long time. Hopefully it will be part of my retirement.

Absolutely! Everything at the DNotesVault will be 100% handled and swapped for account holders. Thank you for your support Vekka85

A bit delayed on the screen shots, should be ready Monday/Tuesday.
