Its all good...I dont want to be more of a dick than I already have. Fuck the maths of it all and just go outside and look around...really look. Things are changing...things have changed just in my lifetime. I have seen it with mine own eye. How many species have gone extinct the last 100 years...how many tons of toxic waste has been dumped into land fills and our oceans? How many extreme weather events happened over the last 20 years? How many glaciers have melted affecting water supply..how much have the polar caps melted affecting the jet streams? Putting a stick in a pot and stirring things around and expecting no noticeable effects is ludicrous in my opinion. My whole point was that I think we can do better. Plain and simple.

just put all that aside and absorb the cinematography then if you dont believe humanity is impacting our environment         either you believe in science and the theory of closed systems or you do not

What is the closed system in your scenario?

... presumably the one that ignores the giant nuclear fusion reactor bathing one hemisphere in fluctuating levels of irradiance ... and the ~2.3K of cold space sucking heat off the other hemisphere

Nice graph...thank you marcus...please tell the class which of those graphs represent open systems and which are closed systems.

I am not sure I can teach you the whole concept of thermodynamics in a reasonable amount of time in this thread. Also not knowing your education level I am not sure how technical you would want a explanation to be. Suffice to say that earth as a whole is the closed system. It receives energy from a couple of sources..radial velocity(the curve of space) and the Sun. It radiates that energy as heat and light thus maintaining a basic state where the inputs and outputs are in balance. ie We dont fly off into space or crash into the Sun. As I said before it is not exactly true...atoms are stripped off the upper exosphere due to solar winds and cosmic rays and matter is injected in the form of meteors. But for our purposes in such negligible amounts as to be basically zero.
Inside the earths atmosphere there are a multitude of systems where matter and energy are exchanged...which is the definition of a open system. ie  Rain...clouds...water or flux if you will...life and and our biosphere transfer these linked properties constantly due to feedback. Plenty of good material out there if your interested....it might blow your mind...it did me.

I have always liked David Attenborough's narrations but this might be his finest..its on all the major outlets I believe...must see tv imo.

trailer on YT
A Perfect Planet

In the first part they start off showing lesser flamingos in Africa...I had no idea...blew me away..the cinematography is breathtaking.

hes got the most amazing voice and the production level of his stuff is usually some of the best out there to. I wish he did more stuff that he does.

If he would just stop with shoving anthropogenic global warming down our throats...

just put all that aside and absorb the cinematography then if you dont believe humanity is impacting our environment         either you believe in science and the theory of closed systems or you do not

i particularly enjoyed the 'behind the scenes' part regardless

If the earth was a closed system, the theory would potentially have relevance...  Since science proves that it is NOT, it is a moot point.

One could mute the videos and just watch, but damn, DA does have The Voice to go with the camera work.

I suppose technically you are correct...Earth is not a completely closed system. It is however closed enough thermodynamically that the impact from anthropogenic excitement can and has been quantified...imo.

Lets shelve this for 20 or so years if you have the time and then you can get back to me...I will be curious if your opinion has changed by then...if I am still even sucking air at that point.   Smiley

ps  Totally agree...does not matter what he is saying...his voice is like warm butter for the soul.

Good morning Jimbo

Dont hear that word much anymore...and its a great one

Quote
Why is a hat maker called a milliner?
The term milliner, originally from “Milener”, originally meant someone from Milan, in northern Italy, in the early 16th century. ... Although the term originally applied to men, milliner came to mean a woman who makes and sells bonnets and other headgear for women since 1713

Went back and looked at PlanB's original 2019 stock-to-flow paper.  Here is the chart I generated when I tried to replicate his math.  You should ignore the curve before the first halving, it's kind of arbitrary, depends on what you set as a starting date.  I used pizza day, but it doesn't really matter because the choice of starting day has no effect on anything after the first halving on November 28, 2012; that stuff is set in stone once you settle on your parameters.  I used PlanB's original equation,
ln(marketcap) = 3.31954 * ln(stock/flow) + 14.6227
Anyway, if there's anything to this s2f stuff, the next year or two should cheer us up.

We may top $100k and settle down somewhere between $70k and $80k this cycle.

it has come to my attention that there is a significant portion of people in this thread who seem only capable of piling on others with negativity and yet rarely post original thoughts that are constructive

i suggest instead of always trying to beat people down they instead try lifting them up...its surprising how good it can make one feel

just my two sats

This is a weird statement.

I wonder about what is your reference, both in regards to "coming to your attention" and also in terms of "actual examples of "beating people down."?

Sure, I do understand that sometimes arguments might devolve into ad hominem attacks, but sometimes there still might be substance that is mixed in there...

If you cannot resist, #label me as confused

yea...i guess it is

i have been frustrated at many levels lately due to my own personal life and a few of the people in it...and i suppose some...or perhaps a lot of that...is leaking outwards

what i do see after some thought about your comment is it is most likely this incessant need i seem to have to try and impose my own personal set of morals onto others...not really a healthy place to be

as for a example..here are a couple that set me off    we argue..we banter...we pitch each other shit in these here parts to borrow some of your vernacular...and it is mostly done in a friendly...if raw at times...sort of way

i am fine with that...what bothers me is when it is intentionally cruel and/or persistent  ie  mindrust     all is fair in love and war but i do not think this falls under that definition     kicking someone when they are down and beaten raises the hackles on that set of personal morals i spoke of

another was the flippant attitude with which you personally responded to a newish forum member...stating in no uncertain terms that you were offering investment advice      even tho i am pretty sure everyone understood your sarcasm Jay...what if they had not?     what if they took that as something serious from a well known and respected forum member and sold their stash at a loss...i know i would feel devastated     i have a hard enough time with the charts i post for that very same reason

anyway..for the most part...it has little to due with the people in this thread, the price action or the wall movements of bitcoin...it is my own personal demons...so my apologies for that

Wow, is that Colonel Steve Zodiac, from Fireball XL-5?

It's from Thunderbirds. It's been so long since I watched any that I don't remember most of the names. Think I'm going to dig some up and watch some with my lad though.

That's the Thunderbird 4 (submarine )dude  Alan, I do believe

Absolutely all time favorite epic show as a kid. (Fireball XL-5 was awesome too...and don't forget Stingray)
This is all from memory...no googling..... (because anyone can do that)
Scott piloted Thunderbird 1
Virgil...  Thunderbird 2
Alan and /or John... Thunderbird 3
Alan... Thunderbird 4
And John was stuck (bored to tears no doubt) on the satellite Thunderbird 5

And Parker was the coolest chauffer..    Loved his accent..."yes m'lady"

Skeptic
1.
a person inclined to question or doubt accepted opinions.
2.
Philosophy
an ancient or modern philosopher who denies the possibility of knowledge, or even rational belief, in some sphere.

opinions are like...meh..think this has been covered before...anyway...the guy seems more than skeptical...sounds like actual hate to me    strawman arguments and character assassination seem to be the theme for this guy

trying to compare legacy automobile manufactures(part 2)to the paradigm shifting rollout of electric vehicles is beyond absurd imo

its like trying to compare bitcoin to legacy financial markets...people will keep doing it despite the obviously broken current fiat system

lets not even start on 'stock' dividends and/or corporate banditry..

just a quick couple of comments

Jack is a beast...great look going on in the tie dye

Elon looks tired or bored..dealers choice

60k viewing on that channel..clearly remember when maybe 6k peeps even knew about bitcoin    your still early

number go up

Jack is one of the most difficult personalities in the "scene" for me because he is such a tie-dye statist totalitarian cypherpunk etc.  LOTS of conflicting views IMHO, but that makes him interesting.  His company's compliance in the mass censorship (yes i realize this is a complex topic) of certain political views, and certain speech is very disturbing to me.  But he gets BTC *WAY* better than Musk for example.

+1 WOsMerit

I think your spot on...it is a deeply textured and complex situation    I do prefer people who are not middle of the road type of personalities...life is too short

I also do not think Musk gives a damn about money..its just a means to an end for him   He is one of the most obsessive goal orientated people I have observed...not a bad thing imo when you are trying to do things that havent been done before
