241  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies should focus more on the knowledge of the crypto space on: December 15, 2018, 03:11:54 PM
Very true. Newbies to this forum and cryptocurrency should have well defined priorities when joining. And also s long term goal.
Everyone wants to profit, but there are correct ways to go about it, and this can only be gotten to acquired knowledge. This way you would be better off, and also improve the quality of content on the forum.
242  Other / Meta / Re: Help Me,Please on: December 15, 2018, 03:06:21 PM
This one is really funny because the OP quoted Danglen and then "responded" with the exact same words. Maybe the OP was trying to be a parrot.

And really sad as well that obvious rule breakers would start threads appealing their bans, when they never bothered to check the rules, ir deliberately ignored the forum guidelines.
And make other users run another search on their posts looking for the reason.
It just hits another mark in the pliagarism bingo.
243  Other / Meta / Re: The forum now has more than 2 500 000 users! Congratulations! on: December 13, 2018, 06:21:02 PM
Which concluded that out of the 2.3 million accounts at the time, 1.6 million had never posted. That's quite insane.

When you consider accounts with evil IP, whose users refused to pay the fee to lift the posting limitation. Then the numbers might begin to add up.
Also does it include nuked accounts where all posts are deleted and the newbie is returned to 'brand new'?

As regards the OP, quality not quantity should be celebrated. Most bot and spam accounts just increase the workload on the moderators.
244  Other / Meta / Re: Any possibility to Unban account please? on: December 13, 2018, 03:10:58 PM
dont you think I am not a chronic spammer who should receive such treatment(directly permanent ban)?
With Temporary ban also I get a final warning that I should be careful enough to avoid such posting. If at all I get chance I will surely go back through my back dated post and delete everything which is of low quality.

The forum rules are actually very lenient and not as stringent as it maybe should be, considering the influx of spammers and bots. But the issue of pliagarism is a perculiar case, and there is no second chance, or reprieve, especially when the violation was made in a bid to get a reward. Theymos already discussed this issue;

...Plagiarism is what gets people permabanned, not just copying. Plagiarism is copying with the intent of passing the work off as your own. In essentially all cases, plagiarism deserves a permaban because it usually proves definitively that the person is here for the wrong reasons: to fill up space in order to get paid, not to actually discuss or contribute. If someone was able to convince us that they were plagiarizing just to eg. impress people rather than to fill up space, then a lesser ban of a few months might instead be warranted. But this has never happened AFAICR. (Arguments based on plausible deniability aren't going to work; we don't need to prove that you had the motive we see in your actions.)

If you treat posting as a job, a chore, then you must live in fear, since the forum is not made for you. In this case, you need to blend in as someone who actually cares, but plagiarism will immediately out you, and producing a mountain of useless posts will also eventually be noticed, if more slowly. If you do actually care, then this will be obvious in your posts (and probably your merit score), and you will have nothing to fear from moderators; even allegations of plagiarism will be doubted when seen in the context of your other posts...

There is no hope of getting your account back.
And new accounts created by you and posting outside this thread would be tagged for Ban evasion and banned as well.
You can still read and learn from the forum
245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who wants to use Bitcoin? on: December 12, 2018, 12:01:01 PM
Bitcoin was created to be used as a peer to peer network, where transactions can be effected without the need for a trusted third party. The blockchain repalced the banks and financial institutions.
But to use it, it has to be an available form of pauments.
Bitcoin usage has been steadily growing in the past decade, and with more adoption it would be more accepted.
246  Other / Meta / Re: Decentralized Forum? on: December 12, 2018, 06:41:47 AM
You can only fix what is broken.

Let the users decide.

The forum is governed by set rules and guidelines which are available for all to see, letting the users decide or putting decisions down to majority vote in sensitive topics would be difficult to manage, and it would be down to the majority account holders.
Or the forum staffs draws up an algorithm which moderates the system and keeps it in check.
247  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if bitcoin crashes to $1 overnight? on: December 12, 2018, 06:33:21 AM
You have successfully suggested why Bitcoin can not drop to $1 overnight. You should have chosen a different topic to effectively convey the message you are passing.

Bitcoin is a virtual currency, and decentralized. But it has intrinsic value which is determined by the 'cost of production', which is the model most commodities use to determine the value of their products.
This cost incurred when mining bitcoins creates a support which would prevent the value dropping below a certain threshold.
248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what does your digital currency portfolio look like? on: December 11, 2018, 10:25:51 PM
I am currently full in a couple of altcoins which make up a large portion of my portfolio.
And also monitoring a couple of altcoins and new projects yet to get launched on exchanges.

I plan to sell my bitcoin once it reaches 85$ profit so who knows how long that will take.

No one knows how long that would take. We would need an idea of exactly how much you invested to know what percentage is a profit of $85
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UK Parliament Member Wants You to Pay Your Taxes with Bitcoin on: December 11, 2018, 01:51:01 PM
This development would go a long way in publicizing Bitcoin and increasing adoption of bitcoin in the UK and maybe other countries to follow.

With more adoption and increased price stability', there would probably be no need for payment processors in the future when accepting bitcoin.
250  Economy / Speculation / Re: Investors are not to panic - game is on? on: December 11, 2018, 01:41:15 PM
If you are going to panic sell then you'd be in a better position if you do that early before the panic spreads among the community and the price tanks.

With a clear understanding of the market and latest updates you can forsee a major drop before it happens, and if you are not comfortable hodling through the winter, then you can sell of and buy back in at the bottom, this way you gain by shorting the market.
251  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where is the best place to sell a high amount of bitcoin? $150M on: December 11, 2018, 01:36:45 PM
Converting that amount of bitcoin to fiat would require proper identity verification from exchanges which has enough volume and liquidity to handle such transaction.

You can also sell Over The Counter, if you want your identity protected. Although selling directly does not exposed your identity to the public but such currency movements would spook the price massively.
252  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Learn how to diversify your crypto portfolio and manage risk. on: December 10, 2018, 01:00:17 PM
Management is also a key factor when diversifying your cryptocurrency holdings. Only hold as much coins or tokens as you can conveniently manage amd track.

There are lots of benefits to having alternative holdings. You could cover up a loss in one with gains in another.
Also be very shrewd when selecting your investments.
253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to bitcoin on: December 10, 2018, 12:54:28 PM
As a potential investors or trader, look out for basic videos online and informative articles on bitcoin, and nsume as much knowledge as possible, and from different sources as well, to avoid sharing the sentiments of some other person.

In this forum, look out for sticky threads.
Det acquainted with the rules and guidelines.
The beginners' and help board is a good place to start.
254  Other / Meta / Re: Images aren't displaying in posts on: December 10, 2018, 08:40:30 AM
Also bear in mind that after achieving the one merit requirement and the required activity count to post images, or after purchasing copper membership, you would still have to switch to BBcode when posting images on bitcointalk, that way the image appears directly, without linking back to imgur.

I'm guessing you went in and viewed my profile because I'm a female and you're probably so lonely living in your parents basement.

There is nothing to look for on your profile, this is not a social platform for personal interactions. Apart from your username which could be easily made up,.there is nothing else which suggests your identity.
Try and keep it civil.
255  Other / Meta / Re: BAN AND FORBIDDEN REASON on: December 09, 2018, 09:41:16 AM
I received an email saying that I had to pay 0.6ETH to recover my account. Is that possible?

Most likely a new strategy to scam users, but a simple read though the forum rules would save you the trouble from being exposed to such situations.
All response addresses, bitcoin for donations, evil ip payment and email for appeal mails are generated by the forum. And would never message you first.

You can drop the email which sent the message, so admins can track it and deal punishments.
256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What percentage of bitcoin buyers at the higher prices are still holding? on: December 09, 2018, 09:35:02 AM
a lot of people are investing in bitcoin instead of day trading it.

Trading requires a lot of skills; ability to read charts and make analysis from your research and attempt to predict the future price from a couple of hours to weeks. And it most times forces you to also engage in altcoins when looking for more options.

Investing just requires you understand the foundamentals, invest as much as you can afford to lose and hodl.
257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Millennials are ‘delusional’ about how rich they’re going to be on: December 08, 2018, 08:41:13 AM
People mortgaging a house , (that was already paid for)
Using Credit Card Debt to Buy as much Crypto as Possible,

This is something that is generally discouraged, people are advised to only invest amounts they can afford to lose, and should never invest money they do not own.

All thinking it was going to make them Ultra Rich, and the exact opposite has occurred,
Prices are Crashing with little incentive for anyone to buy them , as everyone knows the price is going lower.

Well, Bitcoin has been responsible for making people ultra rich, for everyone buying at the top, there's another who bought lower and is selling for a profit. A lot of people's let have benefited from bitcoin, but just like trading in any sector, everyone can not win, everytime
258  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help sorting forums posts on: December 08, 2018, 08:35:09 AM
A good read here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3158138.0

Come back here if you have any questions as the topic is now quiet inactive.

That was a very useful thread for users willing to customize their viewing experience in the forum.
It could also be beneficial to others if the OP does comment there, to bump the thread and allow others view it easily, as the OP of that post has been inactive for a while
259  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will be the possible outcome if bitcoin still continue to depreciate? on: December 07, 2018, 03:56:23 PM
That will be a question if what will happen if bitcoin continue its fall of price? What will be the impact to the investors and traders?

It's largely dependent on the factors causing the price drop.
This current crash is down to mining issues with hashrates down to the second greatest low, and a number of miners exiting. It's very possible we find the bottom soon and hold that position.
Investors would naturally panic during a dip, but would be wise to hodl. Traders would need to invent new ways to profit
260  Other / Meta / Re: Could we get top reporters from these boards? on: December 07, 2018, 03:52:55 PM
I think I recall seeing an election for  the Politics & Society board and I think it would be beneficial to do that again for these boards. Unless there is some reason why we are not adding moderators? AFAIK the budget is there.

It's down to the management to determine that, if there is room for more moderators on the payroll. It is definitely necessary as the battle to combat spam intensifies.
Also the member selected would have to be willing to take up the task, which is not an easy one.

(maybe theymos should implement the reporter badges with a few perks to encourage more reporting).

That would be really helpful, and it can target the lower ranked members who constitutes a bulk of the members of the forum, if you can have them actively fighting spam, for signature space or posting permission, the state of the forum would be that much better.
For higher ranked members I can't think of any befitting rewards for now. And my ideas?
