921  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dangerous position on: October 28, 2015, 02:03:26 PM
Does not scale seems to be the trolls new phrase of the month.

What does stating facts and serious issues have to do with trolling? You want to deny that a system providing 7tps to a global economy is not a serious problem to the core idea?

Denial seems to be extremely persistent with some people here.

I'm telling people to be careful. TROLL ALERT!!
Right, who's the scammer/troll now?

Bitcoin is meant to be HODL so the blockchain's transaction throughput is not an issue  Wink

When you feel like spending your monies just cash out to fiat.
922  Economy / Speculation / Re: We are in green 6 weeks in a row first time in 2 years on: October 28, 2015, 01:20:27 PM
I put myself in the group of "slow and steady growth".  The reason I say that is because volatility is great for traders, but the average Joe wondering where to park his money needs confidence in some kind of stability on annual returns, and they are also the majority of the population.  $2-3 gains per day would be fantastic imho.

The average joe is much more likely to put money into Bitcoin if there are prospects of 100%-500% returns.

Greed is the biggest driver of Bitcoin adoption. You don't generate much of it with "slow and steady growth"
923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin problems? on: October 28, 2015, 01:17:43 PM
"There were about 370,000 nodes in past, but now it's only about 5000 nodes because blockchain is big
In future, i think there'll less nodes, but all of them are very powerful"

Is not a problem that the verify of transaction go in the hands of a "few" of person?

theres more then 5000 nodes.
that bitnodes site that meant to list the 5000, misses out sooooo many nodes.. i know of 10 people that have full nodes running and none of their IP's show up.

even if 1 out of 10 people i know was actually listed.. then thats roughly a 10% visability. meaning there would be potentially 50,000 nodes.
but because none of the 10 show up. i think the odds of visability are much lower.. so lets say it was 1%.. it would make the potential nodes 500,000.

short story
dont beleive all statistics, some key data may be missing

That's absolutely ridiculous. There probably isn't more than 1000 quality full nodes out there.

I'm not talking about the stuff that's run from VPS & other hosting solutions which probably accounts for a majority of the nodes you see on bitnodes.

@brg444: Not just South Africa, desperate poor everywhere. Bitcoin is the fastest, safest way to rob people anywhere in the world! Smiley

Why is the buying pressure not 24/7 then?

I really don't want to entertain the MMM discussion but I find it funny how we're supposed to believe these people from South Africa are all active & buying on Chinese exchanges during chinese day time    Roll Eyes

Average blocksize is roughly about half a MB already. Do the math. am I being hyperbolic?

Half a megabyte which is full of dust / spam transactions.

The blockchain is extremely valuable to be used in this way.

Some of those dust xactions are colored coins and timestamps carrying far more than their nominal value.

That "value" isn't worth anything to Bitcoin.
927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dorian Nakamoto fundraiser, for an original artwork by cryptograffiti on: October 27, 2015, 11:56:41 PM
The guy never did nothing for bitcoin. I actually don't understand why the hell would somebody do a fundraiser for him. There are much more important things the community could be supporting... so why the hell this?

Apparently "we" ruined his life, or so says the guy above.

apparently "media" ruined his life, or so says many compassionate people that actually care about privacy.

the simple thing is, if your not compassionate.. ok, no promlem keep your hands in your pockets and get on with your life. concentrate on something that makes you happy. but if you want to know why people are compassionate.. well it takes more then a few posts to teach that moral lesson.

no one is asking you to put your funds anywhere. so i dont see why you negative posters are getting pissy about donations.. if you dont understand the cause, or dont want to learn a few things.. then skip this topic and find another topic

get a grip.

What did this guy do to deserve fundraisers for him again?
I think that he wants to sue the journalists that made him the "creator" of bitcoin, and when you sue someone you usually need money for it so... he is fundraising money for his expenses.

essentially he's a law suit troll?

gotcha

he's not a lawsuit troll..
ok.. i think we should dox you, and then report to the media that you are... a drug dealing paedophile, who shoots up schools. then let media knock on your door and hassle you for months. then have all the forums talk about you and want to question every inch of your life.
like speaking to your former employers. research what schools you went to and contact your teachers.

contact your family and ask them personal questions about you.

let me guess, your going to pretend that its ok to make a wild accusation that is false and which would cause millions of people to look at you in a different light. and them millions of people recognizing you

 Cheesy

get your head checked. "wild accusation". "Bitcoin creator"  Cheesy give me a break.

“What we’re building is the largest early-stage investment portfolio in the digital currency and blockchain ecosystem,” Silbert explains. “We’re also going to start high-growth businesses of our own, and develop a global platform and network to support our companies.”

DGC is structured as a company rather than as an investment vehicle, in part because Silbert hopes to someday take it public. To that end, he has raised what he refers to as a “very large” new round of funding.

Among the new investors is MasterCard, which seems to be making its first formal foray into the bitcoin space. The others are: Bain Capital Ventures, CIBC, CME Ventures, FirstMark Capital, New York Life, Novel TMT, Oak HC/FT, RRE Ventures, Solon Mack Capital and Transamerica Ventures.

I'm looking at Nov. 2013 late rise and still can't shake out how quickly the price rose.

The idea of this repeating simply has me in awe. Especially if you consider the amount of money standing on the sideline at this point are straight out frightening

935  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is about to be $5K-$8K ++ on: October 27, 2015, 09:28:35 PM
Could I ask where, specifically, tens of extra billions of capital are going to come from though. Tbh I don't think such sums are ever chump change.

May I propose...

936  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is about to be $5K-$8K ++ on: October 27, 2015, 09:06:46 PM

With an available supply of 14,771,150 BTC it takes $4,351,964,840 to yield a price of $ 294.63. To move the price to $8k where are all of these extra billions coming from. Tens of extra billions. You know something we don't?

Bitcoin is over-pumped as it is.

 Cheesy

You don't actually believe this is how it works do you?

More ad hominem from the usual suspects.

wanna cry?

There's no way Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto is 6 foot.
On a serious note, I still do not understand how big blockers still don't seem to get it. We already have centralized mining, im still waiting for a convincing explanation of how centralizing the nodes would be a good idea (and this is what would happen once the blocks become too big and they will). Having to rely on offchain transactions isn't ideal, but the world isn't ideal, and it's certainly better than a group of 4 or 5 private companies owning most of the nodes.

Don't you worry! Their corporatists friends will gladly support Bitcoin from the comfort of their dedicated gigabyte connected decentralized datacenters  Wink

so did they end up buying bitcoins?

What did this guy do to deserve fundraisers for him again?
he was hounded and harrassed by media.
stalked and publicised.

all because a media outlet decided he was the creator of bitcoin. this has been disproved but media has affected his life. and as a bitcoin community we found that because the media shitstorm was about the supposed creator of bitcoin. we thought we should do something positive to help this guy out.

no one is forcing anyone to donate, so relax you dont have to do anything if you dont want to. but many people who enjoy their privacy do not like to see another persons privacy being invaded due to wrongful allegations, and thus people feel sorry for the poor guy

 Roll Eyes

oh please.

that lasted what? half a day?

"media has affected his life"

gimme a break.
