ok i also bought some and i am also mining in the pool. Just i couldnt understand so far about altcoins is "how mining difficulty can go low?". i was expecting difficulty always goes up, innit?

The concept of the difficulty is to be a means to stabilize the coin as such. Since new coins are issued by mining as a reward for the miners doing the computational work to confirm transactions, it adapts to the hashing-power after a certain time. So if more and more miners mine, because the price of a coin is rising, the difficulty is following with a delay to not let only some miners mine all available coins, but let the mining-power solve roughly all the time the same amount of blocks in a given timeframe. The same (only vice versa) happens, when the hashrate is dropping, maybe because the price of the coin is falling, or some miners think, another coin could be more profitable to mine, hence leaving the coin's P2P-network. Then the difficulty is dropping slowly after that, in order to always keep the average time, that was concepted to solve a block (which means transactions are confirmed), on the targeted level.

If you get less and less people mining a coin the difficulty goes down. Sometimes a big pool starts mining a coin, pushes the difficulty up to very high levels, then leaves and waits until the difficulty drops down again because only a few people are left mining it.

If the price doesn't drop also, it is a good time to mine then - because the profit rises. So mining MOON is nice with a difficulty below 3 and the price staying at 5 Litoshi.  Smiley

Hi, thanks a lot for the big tip  Smiley means that i can connect to, for example, this node 148.251.13.168:9664 (is on the pool site) with the rig? i use p2pool for Bitquark and if it is the same i prefer as the other ones

Yes, just check it out.
The Mooncoin-P2Pool-nodes are working well. I've tested them.
Choose one and set two or three as a backup so your miner switches over to the next (in case of) and your done.
1048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! KGW exploit FIXED 4/3/2014 on: June 18, 2014, 05:38:21 PM
Ok, now definitely mooncoinpool is a SCAM!!! i try with other rig and also the same, looks like is working but there is not coins credited to my account. Be aware of this people!!! sadly is the only pool working as far as i know  Sad

Check out the P2Pool-nodes: http://5.45.105.66

They work stable for some time now. And the big advantage is, that you don't have to rely on a pool operator, since P2Pool pays out directly into your wallet when a block is found. You don't even have to log in, just use your MOON-address as username und anything as password, and you're done:

Example-config to point cgminer to one of the nodes:
Code:
cgminer --scrypt -Q 0 -o stratum+tcp://pool.address:9664 -u walletaddress -p x --RestOfCgminerOptions

--> -Q 0 tells your miner not to cache large amounts of work, since for P2Pool low latency and speed is crucial. If you pass old shares late, they may already be invalid, so the queue of work should be as short as possible --> - Q 0

Example-config to point minerd to one of the nodes:
Code:
minerd -a scrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.address:9664 -u walletaddress

If you don't know how to start mining on P2Pool and what it's all about, I'd recommend these articles:
http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/news/p2pool-mining/2014/03/25
http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/news/try-p2pool-mining-profitability/2014/03/25

Keep in mind that all nodes form ONE pool together, so if you switch from one to the other, none of your shares/coins are lost, since the P2Pool-network shares the same date (sharechain).
Also keep in mind, that - since it is a PPLNS-based system - it needs some time to pay out the full amount of your hashrate. So just be patient.

Edit:
Just saw, that bemining.net now has a NOMP-pool, that covers MOON, too: http://bemining.net
So you could try that, too.

Anyone on the P2P pool? I came back to check it out again, but I notice the top paid address (ATKnyLjBJz8kZii9tKNivsH8rw4SxcXP3N) isn't listed in the graphs section. Why?

Maybe mining on another P2Pool. See the nodes: http://5.45.105.66:8080

Yes, this is an ongoing saga.

Anyone have any tricks to keep this on the proper chain? I'll soon have to take CGA off my pools. It's the most time consuming and disruptive coin on them...

You should add MOON instead again. It's been running flawlessly for the last couple of weeks.  Smiley

oh yeah? They updated their wallet not too long ago didn't they?

The last wallet-update was for the KGW-exploit-fix, which was 4/3/2014. After some hiccups shortly thereafter, because some did not update their wallets and some pool-owners did not update their daemons, so some were on the wrong fork, it is now running perfectly ever since then.

For me it seems like someone wants to get bad code (virus, trojan etc.) onto someone else's computer via bitcointalk-PM ...
Just a warning.

what do you think, would it be possible to implement some kind of paper-wallet-generator into the Mooncoin-wallet? Maybe a more than useful feature.

I was just reading about that before, same bitcoin wiki page:

Quote
Tips for making paper wallets
  • 1. Disconnecting from the Internet guarantees that that the paper wallet generator is truly self-contained and isn't transmitting your keys online.
  • 2. Verifying the integrity of the code (and the trustworthiness of the author) is important to make sure a hacker hasn't modified the HTML so that it generates predictable addresses instead of truly random keys.
  • 3. Using a very basic printer is advisable since high-end office printers may have WiFi or internal storage that keeps a cache of printed documents.

Practicalities restrict us to simply recommending that Mooncoin holders follow 1. and 3. there isn't much more we can do.

However, it's possible that we could improve the Ux by actually tackling 2 instead of making totally unrealistic demands of users. Apart from the woeful laxity of undefined terms such as "predictable" and "truly random", it blithely ignores the fact that users are not generally in a position to verify the integrity of program code (nor are currency exchange operators, apparently).

But anyway, the codebase has moved on and there are now strong imprecations against creating paper wallets, e.g. this one from Pieter Wuille:

Quote
“As of the 0.8.x series, the reference client does not support paper wallets. You can export individual keys, and print them to paper, but you are very likely to shoot yourself in the foot unless you're familiar with the implementation details.

In particular, change (the difference in value between coins used to create your transaction, and the amount being sent) is sent to a fresh address in order to increase privacy of the system. When you're using a paper wallet, you will likely miss these, as well as key pool entries.

There is support planned for deterministic wallets (BIP32), which means a single backup of a wallet seed will be enough to create the wallet. This may or may not end up in 0.9, though.

The reason why no "Export wallet to PDF" exists, is exactly because in the current model, this would result in many misconceptions and lost coins. Without deterministic key generation, no immutable dump of the wallet can survive (a series of) spends.”

Mooncoin could follow Dogecoin's example and plot a course to migrate to the Bitcoin Core 0.9.x codebase. Then, if/when BIP32 is implemented in the 0.9 series, Mooncoin would be in an excellent position to adopt the tech.

Cheers,

Graham

P.S. Some altcoin devs are offering extended "user-facing" wallet functionality by including additional tabs. For example, Silkcoin has a block explorer built in to the wallet, as does AllAgescoin, although with 8 tabs, I think Mike may have got a bit carried away. I hear he's planning to include a TV guide Smiley.

We could take a sober look at what's available to adapt.

Bellacoin has an expanded set of wallet tabs. Most of them are quite simple, using Qt's webhandler to render http-retrieved content a la browser. However, this is also verging on creeping centralism; control of the remote domain means control over the rendered content of the wallet tab - so it's only really suitable for a trusted, actively-defended remote source such as a well-run Foundation or a currently- favoured exchange.

P.P.S. Bellacoin's website is an excellent example of high-quality altcoin user support, many props.

I agree to all of that. Did read the caveats about creating paper-wallets on the bitcoin-page, too. So the best thing at the moment would simply be to backup wallet.dat to different locations, which are not connected to each other and/or the internet and possibly secure them via encryption, I suppose.
Did not know about the problem with the change not going to the paper-wallet-address and BIP32 being an approach to solve that. So again got a little bit smarter.  Smiley

Regarding adding features in general, I also take the view, that we should not do anything that is not necessary. A TV-guide in a wallet? ...  Huh Cry Shocked
Regarding tabs with content loaded from somewhere in the internet: this really opens the door for trojans, viruses and - not as bad, but as undesirable - advertisements or the likes.

And for sure i'll backup the wallet.dat

I strongly recommend reading the Bitcoin wiki entry on Securing your wallet, there's a potential “gotcha” that you should be aware of.

Cheers

Graham

I think now im the high and long time shareholder from Mooncoin

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

5.45 billions of mooncoins

Just don't keep them all in Cryptsy. Transfer them to a wallet of your own. You know what can happen to exchanges, since Mt Gox, Coinex, coinmarket.io and so on.
And don't forget to backup your wallet.dat and keep the backup safe on another computer, an USB-stick and/or in a paper-wallet.

Hey yall,
my cga wallet is screaming "fill me!" .... I have 31 coins from way back when cga was new....
I see it's at #1 a lot to top 10 on coinwarz... maybe it's time to try mining it again.
Wallet is up to date...
What is a good pool or pools to mine cga from these days?
The ones recommended by the main cga site are all mostly dead now...
Suggestions welcome!
Thanks
Wolfey2014

The problem with coinwarz is, that they seem to be on the wrong chain with the low diff.

Edit:
They seem to have realized the problem now, as it is downlisted to the end with a warning.

This coin pops up on the profitability list from time to time, but it seems to be abandoned, or maybe not abandoned but lower priority of the dev?  Its an interesting coin and kind of a shame.  If the dev doesn't want to operate strong seeds, why not get some volunteers to run a few and connect them together, and pop them into the code and release an update with the known good seeds and some checkpoints to get everyone onto the right chain?  It seems kind of unusual to have a coin forking constantly although sometimes with popular coins it happens.  Three strong seed nodes and checkpoints should at least help to alleviate it a little.  Maybe somebody can do a quick scan of the source and see if anything obvious jumps out that could be tweaked?

That's 100% correct.
1059  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ⚒[CGA] Cryptographic Anomaly - The Elusive Coin⚒ Update to 1.3.4.1 ASAP! on: June 15, 2014, 06:08:22 PM
I seem to be having problems syncing the CGA Wallet.  Stuck on 5 hours to sync.  Tried downloading new wallet.  I dont see any clients.dat file.  Not sure what to do from here.

You could try to add the p2pool-IP-addresses as additional nodes into your cryptographicanomaly.conf (hopefully at least they have a correctly synced blockchain running):

See the P2Pool-scanner here: http://5.45.105.66:8080/

Example:
addnode=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Edit:

You could also specify the IP-addresses for a one-time sync to IP-addresses that you trust (for example the P2Pool-nodes):
-addnode=<ip>          Add a node to connect to and attempt to keep the connection open
-connect=<ip>          Connect only to the specified node(s)

Info taken from here (there are more options):
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin

Just add the above parameters to your startup-link (or start the CGA-wallet from the command line and append the parameters).
But keep in mind, that -connect will limit the outgoing connections to only those you specify and prevents your wallet from accepting incoming ones. So as soon as you have downloaded the correct blockchain, you should remove the parameters from your startup-link, because relying on only one peer for a long time is not really recommended for obvious reasons.
