You have no option but making it super-safu for $16 fee from each transaction!
222  Other / Meta / Re: how is a merit eliminated if one no longer wants to give it? on: January 21, 2021, 12:06:40 PM
A desire of taking back a given merit means that you do not think the post is worth your merit any more or simply your personal preferences, like you found it good yesterday and just "changed your mind" the next day. So, don't merit someone if you are not sure about giving that merit, first of all. And regarding the second scenario of "frequent changing mind", I have no idea.

Would you trust a key from your chest with 200m dollars inside to your brain that you know might broke after a wrong step on your stairway? Doesn't really sound realistic to me.
224  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Themes (CSS-Based): Dark Silver, Dark Purple on: January 05, 2021, 01:56:30 PM

To me, the palette below for sure looks more attractive and pleasant to my eyes than the one used in the screenshot above. Just a feedback.

225  Other / Meta / Re: Can we, forum users, affect the bitcoin price? on: January 05, 2021, 01:03:04 PM
I don't remember ever seeing a specific thread regarding content and SEO, but has theymos and the mods ever considered paying a SEO experienced content writer to create some articles and drive some more traffic towards the site? Seems that mining is the most popular term people search for, but there are surely many others. Someone who knows more about this stuff could probably chip in. Why not increase the userbase in this way?

Finally someone got my point.
226  Other / Meta / Re: Can we, forum users, affect the bitcoin price? on: December 28, 2020, 01:55:06 PM
~
If you are suggesting that theymos et al. start really pushing for SEO and turn the forum into bitcoin manipulation tool rather than a discussion board, then I just simply disagree.
I'm suggesting to make more people know about bitcoin and the forum.

The thread title was changed from "Can we, forum users, affect the bitcoin price?" to the current.

So, looking at the Bullrun you might think: "how far will it go?", "will it stay at this high price level?", "what exactly is causing the rise?" or "this fast rise will be followed by a fast drop anyway...".

First, let's figure out what exactly does the real impact:

Credits to Google

DEMAND...what is demand?

Credits to Google

A desire to purchase...uhmm

As a simple man, I tend to (most time) invest professionally in stuff that I'm closely familiar enough with and surely this is not a secret formula of investment - no one puts his money in what he doesn't know about. By educating people who have willing to get into crypto but are being skeptical, we could literally affect the price. But to educate someone you have to have someone Smiley So, where does Bitcointalk get traffic from?

Credits to Similarweb

Not talking about the direct traffic, that's the people who are already deeply familiar with BTC and who already own their shares. 39.45% of the total visitors of the forum are coming from the search. Let's analyze them a bit:

Credits to Similarweb

These data are, of course, far not accurate but they might help to see the overall pattern. As you see, most part of the traffic that the forum is getting from Google are people who are interested in mining. However, there are hundreds of keywords related to bitcoin that attract millions of people and these keywords are taken by blogs/magazines who don't give a fuck about the future of crypto (the page shown as an example below does not even have a comment section, it's natural that people will have questions after reading this particular article.). They just paid someone to write the articles, took positions on the search, and monetizing their traffic. For example,

Guess what? This single page has (according to Ahrefs) more visits than the whole Bitcointalk forum.

Credits to Ahrefs

Again, these figures are not accurate, they are only for having an overall pattern. So, what keywords and positions does this "gigantic page" have on search?

Credits to Ahrefs

Oh, these keywords seem to be related to the forum's Mining section. Unfortunately, the section does not have any positions on these keywords.

I can list hundreds of other examples of the keywords that are meant to be leading traffic to Bitcointalk but are taken by other blogs/online magazines/news websites those aim out of these pages are only to monetize or promote affiliate links. Bitcointalk has all the resources to fight for each of these keywords. Google lists your page higher when the page is in-topic, when the domain is aged/authoritative, when other sources are linking to your page, and when people are engaging on this page. We have each and every of those, I think the forum needs more informative threads in form of articles covering questions that are being searched.

So,
 - More informative articles on more different topics = more keywords.
 - More keywords = more traffic.
 - More traffic = more crypto educated people.
 - More educated people = more demand.

What do you think?

The idea of the thread is wholely based on my thoughts and experience. Any idea, including against it is highly appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year!
228  Other / Meta / Re: Spam all over the forum on: December 25, 2020, 10:01:21 AM
Basically people who doesn’t know much about SEO and backlinks as far as I know. As if getting backlinks on sites(like Bitcointalk) that aren’t even in their niche(viagra, sports links, etc) helps.
Plus, taking into account that we are talking about a forum that gives much less link juice to the destination page. But not everyone is smart enough to work their asses off to analyze SEO trends (knowing a technique that used to work a year ago can not only be totally ineffective but harmful) and work according to them. They prefer to listen to "professional specialists" who say every possible shit to sell their product. Here is the one.
229  Other / Meta / Re: [2020] Positive news! on: December 24, 2020, 06:58:58 AM
2020 was just an amazing year for me in terms of personal growth. I learned a lot this year. A website I worked on rose x5 times and that was an unbelievable achievement to me even though I was returned to the place where I started after Google's December update:D. Thank this year, I have a strong enough plan, finances, knowledge and experience to start a brand new online magazine (maybe in crypto) that I always wanted next year.

Other than that, thank God, I did not lose anyone close because of the virus (some of them suffered real bad tho, but considering that at some point people kept dying in a couple of days after being infected, I'm thankful to God).

Also, no need to mention how fantastic year was it for the world of crypto! We got back to the point where we actually belong after the last two awful years. This is only a start and cryptocurrency will more and more be valuable by time.

Thank you everyone in Bitcointalk for being a part of it, blessings to mods, admins, scammer busters Cheesy, data guys, quality posters and all other contributors of the forum. Sending you all my heartfelt wishes with joy that never ends.

Happy New Year!

230  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk is being used as a backlink source on: December 23, 2020, 11:54:54 AM
Good lord. Who pays that much for this? ~
Because that used to work for SEO some time ago. It does on some level now too, if the context of the backlink is super relative and the profile of the publisher is established, a bunch of such do-follow backlinks might lift your google positions. Especially, if the forum is active and well moderated.
231  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk is being used as a backlink source on: December 23, 2020, 10:11:27 AM
Yeah, bitcointalk has always been open for obtaining a do-follow link from. Not sure if this was left uncontrolled by purpose or not but this was exactly the reason for such spammy comments.
232  Other / Meta / Bitcointalk is being used as a backlink source on: December 23, 2020, 09:40:08 AM
I'm not sure if this is an issue that needs to be immediately handled and solved but I thought it is worth creating a thread.

So, there is a service that sells backlinks called Crowdo. Generally saying, they provide backlinks from forums. They have a thread on BHW which is a known forum for webmasters and SEOs. The thread has 185 pages which is above the average on that forum. As their prices were pretty high (forum links are not considered as white hat and are not that effective nowadays as it used to be) I decided to dig a bit.

On their website, I found their so-called deck including all information about them. On the bottom of the 8th page of it, you can see a doc file with the link samples they provide. And btctalk is on the list.

Turns out the comment from @landy5277 was not "organic".

They create fresh profiles for each comment and sell each comment for ranging from $6.95 to $9.95 depending on the package purchased. This, unfortunately, cannot be controlled and does very little or no harm to btctalk, I guess...

What do you think about this?

Got what I wanted get. Thank you everyone.
234  Other / Meta / Pls Add a Price Tracker somewhere on the forum on: December 18, 2020, 07:28:51 AM
Not sure if this was discussed yet and don't know if there is some restriction or kind of an agreement that Bitcointalk cannot have a widget or a tracker tool of crypto prices. I'm personally done with every time opening an extra tab for coinmarketcap and checking the price. Having it on the home page of the forum would help a lot Smiley

235  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for a very special market service provider on: December 17, 2020, 06:22:56 AM
You do not want to buy on the exchange because you do not want to empty the order book. And you also don't want to do it through an official contact.

What exactly you mean by Does anyone know if there is a service or someone that can help me?

Not having a good daily volume does not mean that some third party service or hacker can access their back and transfer tokens to you without their notice. If you are confident about their future, why not just contact them directly and buy a bag of their tokens by becoming an early "investor" or "partner". I'm sure if the project is still young and not doing fine even though they are officially listed on a good exchange, they will consider such offer.

and also use one of these "payment processors/gateways" to automate BTCitcoin payments.
another good option that I do not see in the list. I have it installed on my website for quite long time now and never had issues with it.

I'm in crypto since 2017, yes, relatively a newbie. I witnessed how it blew up the world in Dec 2017 and remember how almost everyone around who even had no knowledge in crypto bought it. I'm proud that I was born in the decade that it was invented and believe that it will only become more and more valuable by time.

So, the purpose of this thread is I want to buy some good pizza to my fellow forum users on the day when bitcoin hits 20K (maybe it will happen after an hour, maybe tomorrow). Just take a screenshot from blockchain or coinmarketcap at the moment when it crosses the line and post it here.

Some mentions:

 - only the first 5 users will be chosen
 - the pizzas will be chosen by the users in range of $15-20
 - I'll directly pay the bill or send you the cost in bitcoins (delivery fee will be included)

This is not a giveaway or something and I don't hodl millions either. I just want to celebrate the event properly. Until that, stay safe.

*if bitcoin won't hit 20K in two weeks, this offer will either be closed or the milestone limit will be changed
