101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need some ideas on: April 03, 2024, 06:08:34 PM
Maybe you could start a tutorial series with some essential wallet education? Explaining different wallet types - web wallets, self-custody wallets, hardware wallets... The difference between hot wallets (web and mobile) and cold storage (hardware and paper wallets). The importance of self-custody for Bitcoin. etc...
102  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poll: Games of sSkill or Games of Luck on: March 30, 2024, 07:30:33 PM
We all have our own style when it comes to gaming.  Some peeps like games that rely more on luck, like slots or dice rolls or whatever.  Others are all about games that test your smarts and skills.  Either way is cool with me.

For me, I'm definitely more of a skill game guy myself and  love wiping the floor with some poor sucker who thought he could take me on in some good shooter or some epic questing game.  But hey, I love the thrill of games of chance too.  There's just something exciting about watching those slot machine wheels spin and hoping you hit the jackpot.  Even if the odds are usually stacked against you in the casino.

That whole house edge thing definitely sucks if you ask me.  But I guess it makes sense - the casinos gotta pay the bills somehow right? And for a few lucky winners to cash out big a ton more folks gotta lose.  Kinda sucks, but it is what it is.

I like skill games and today I think that an online casino should have at least one skill game to attract more players as it cannot hurt.

Yes, that might attract some players, but if there are no stakes involved, what good is it to the casino?
103  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: House always wins? The case of Trump Plaza. on: March 30, 2024, 05:53:07 PM
Have you ever heard about casinos this big failing to the point they need to be completely demolished before? Because I have not.
Yes, there are other casinos on the same situation as well. After COVID pandemic, many businesses struggled to continue operating and decided to shut down their services. I believe to run a land based casino is much more challenging than managing an online platform.

Three Las Vegas-Area Casinos to Be Demolished for Land Sales

I can imagine that to be true. I mean, yeah it seems kinda weird more regular casinos haven't jumped on the online bandwagon.  Running an actual building has gotta cost a freaking fortune - rent, staff, security guards.  It's a real headache.  The online thing just seems easier and  and you can get people all over playing not just whoever can make it into the casino that day.

But I guess some of the old school casinos are probably kinda freaked out about competing with the resto of the online platforms.  Still seems short-sighted if you ask me.  Seems like itd be smart to let people play the same games online if they can't make it out to their favorite slots or table games.  Win-win, right?

Anyway, online casinos are probably the future whether the big guys like it or not.  More convenient for everyone.  The physical places will still get the die hards and tourists and stuff.
104  Economy / Reputation / Re: DT1 and DT2 members who have negative feedback (or are banned) on: March 30, 2024, 05:08:43 PM
Was I mentioned here a while ago?
Let's call it an early joke. Or a mistake. Did I startle you?

Is it April 1 already? That was a good one, LoyceV!  But let's not joke about that anymore, okay? Cheesy
105  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can we still truly achieve anonymous gambling in crypto? on: March 30, 2024, 04:56:38 PM
All that is written are probably some of the reasons why centralized casinos still wins every time.

However, let's look at this way, when crypto existed, it was promoted because it could give us anonymity, it was new to use, hard to typical person but we are able to learn on how to use it because we like to achieve the ultimate privacy which was its purpose. Things are doing great until time has come that bitcoin gets more popular and it has been notice by the government or regulators, and that they started to regulate it.

If they can ban it, they would, but they'll not gain anything from it so they just regulate it.

That's a fair point, but we gotta look at the other side here too.  Anonymity was a big draw for crypto initially, yes. But that's shaping up to be a double-edged sword in some ways. The way I see it - if crypto's really gonna go mainstream someday, it needs at least some basic guardrails and structure to build more trust and transparency with the public and get taken seriously alongside traditional finance.  It's not always about black and white, banning or complete freedom.
106  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How can we help beginners not to get addicted on: March 30, 2024, 04:19:39 PM
is it because they have no understanding or awareness about the addiction of gamble.
I am sure that gamblers know and consciously continue to gamble with their addiction.

I'm not sure that's true. Research shows that most addicts do not know how to recognize the signs of addiction or are in denial. They do not want to admit that they have a problem and it is one of the most difficult aspects of overcoming addiction.  In fact, denial is often considered one of the hallmarks of any addiction.
107  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eurovision 2024 bets on: March 30, 2024, 04:09:25 PM
I did not expect Angelina Mango to surge into second place.  I enjoy her song La noia but Im not sure it has Eurovision winner written on it.

Croatia and Baby Lasagna still holding the top spot, fascinating! Is it just a catchy beat or the novelty aspect hooking people? Either way, it's definitely stirring up the competition.

Seeing Ukraine knocked out bummed me out - Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil were my dark horse picks.

Anyone else surprised by the current standings? What do you think are Angelina's odds to win it all?
108  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can family members help a gambling addict? on: March 30, 2024, 02:52:45 PM
Many people are going through gambling addiction but they manage to keep it a secret from their families and loved ones. The only people that know about their gambling activities are their close friends. In the event that you are one of those close friend to a gambling addict, do you think it is right to tell their loved ones with the intention that they will be able to talk to him and help him overcome his addiction?

It depends on the situation. If I believe his family and loved ones would be supportive and helpful in his recovery, then yes, I would recommend confiding in them and seeking their help.

Can the advice of loved ones even help? What is the most effective way of going about gambling addiction.

Yes, I believe family support can be helpful, but again, it depends on the advice given. Most people lack the training to deal with addiction issues effectively. This is precisely why there are professionals and medical personnel who specialize in helping people overcome addiction.

I don't think this forum can offer the most definitive answer on overcoming gambling addiction, as there might not be someone with firsthand experience of recovery here.  Therefore, for serious gambling addiction, professional help is likely the most effective solution.
109  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How can we help beginners not to get addicted on: March 30, 2024, 02:36:26 PM
Casinos don't exactly strive to create responsible gamblers. You could say they should run awareness campaigns, but let's get real – that'd be as useless as putting a tiny little "smoking can kill" label on a pack of cigarettes. It's not gonna stop someone who's already in the throes of a gambling problem.

The harsh truth is that addiction doesnt always boil down to a lack of knowledge and  people get sucked in for all sorts of reasons, and understanding the risks doesn't automatically hit the off-switch.  Gambling businesses know this good and well.  They purposefully play on that hope, that possibility of hitting the jackpot and walking away flush.  So we shouldn't expect them to suddenly become addiction counsellors anytime soon.

Don't get me wrong,  it's great that you understand the risks and gamble responsibly. But casinos aren't going to hold your hand and teach you about addiction. That's on you.
110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm not sure if this is being sent as a payment in electrum wallet on: March 30, 2024, 02:13:37 PM
If the network is congested enough, you only need to increase the gas fee or stick with the medium gas fee and wait for a longer time.

Stop calling it the gas fee because you're confusing readers by using the wrong terminology.  There is no concept of "gas" on the Bitcoin network. Fees associated with Bitcoin transactions are simply called network fees or transaction fees.
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cutting my gambling costs to Invest some of it on the Alt and Meme Coins. on: March 30, 2024, 01:51:31 PM
<...>

I can understandthat Bitcoin seems crazy expensive.  Like when you're first starting out with crypto, a whole Bitcoin is just not happening and  that's why altcoins or memecoins can suck you in - your dollar goes further.  But here's the strategy I'd recommend: throw a little money at the riskier altcoins and memecoins, knowing its a total gamble.  But keep most of your investment focused on big guns like Bitcoin that are more likely to be around long-term.  It balances things out - you get the chance of hitting it big with an riskier coin but your money's mainly safe with old reliables.

I'm no expert though.  This is just what worked for me while I was learning the ropes.  Bitcoins still the heavyweight champ in my book!
112  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What nature of the the rewarding games would you prefer playing with friends on: March 29, 2024, 10:21:56 PM
I created such a nature of post like this in couple of hours ago, I was hoping it was going to trend on the board but it did not which got me to check on my profile if was it not successfully posted, it was deleted or was it that the network error occurances obstructed it from succesdful uploading.
It is just unfortunate that it does not have a trace so probably it could be error uploads.
<...>

No. I think your thread probably got deleted by a moderator because it wasn't really about gambling, like I mentioned before.

This board is for gambling discussions, not general gaming stuff. I suggest that you edit your post so that it is more about gambling, and maybe it'll fly.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I make my own signature and use it on bitcointalk freely? on: March 29, 2024, 10:10:11 PM

And I get the point about casinos, I’ve read that this forum operate under US law and as I acknowledge casinos can run if they have proper licenses, so yeah, it means that is legit.

Yes, this forum works under US laws, but that don't automatically make everything folks post here legally "US-approved".  The forum itself doesn't officially promote casinos or companies, but members can use their signature space for their own personal things - even promoting casinos that might not be regulated by the US laws.
114  Other / Off-topic / Re: What if an employee of a betting company misuses company funds for gambling? on: March 29, 2024, 07:36:54 PM
Yeah. The company has every right to take legal action and get him arrested.  But sending someone to jail often just makes the roots of the addiction deeper.  This guy needs counseling and a path to make amends, not just punishment.  There should be opportunity for grace too.  The betting company could get its money back and maybe help reform an employee rather than ruin a life.  Just a thought.
115  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: House always wins? The case of Trump Plaza. on: March 29, 2024, 06:13:31 PM
One must wonder what happened for a casino of this level and category to get in bankruptcy?

There's likely more to the story - there always is.  But an over-eagerness to line ones own pockets while neglecting the product is a tale as old as time in business.  And for casinos especially, greed can become an addiction in itself.  In the case of Trump Plaza, that addiction clearly exacted a heavy cost.

Do you think this is one of the few cases when the house did not win or perhaps it had something to do with factors external to the casino snd it's management?

From wikipedia article:

Quote
Trump Plaza's revenues took a sharp decline in 1990, due to competition from its newly opened sister property, the Trump Taj Mahal, which was a mile away.

Have you ever heard about casinos this big failing to the point they need to be completely demolished before? Because I have not.

No, I havn't. But I bet this isn't the first time something like this has happened, and it probably won't be the last.
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is all this memecoin hype about? on: March 29, 2024, 04:18:06 PM
I just don't get it. What puts such a intense hype on meme coins?
<...>

Memecoins seem to run mostly on hype.  The excitement around them comes from silly names, celebs talking them up, and viral online communities more than anything else.  Not all memecoins even have a clear purpose in the real world - it's more like people hope they'll randomly blow up to be the next Dogecoin. But that seems like a big gamble rather than an investment.

Im not saying all memecoins are shit. Some have potential if the community rallies behind them. But more often it feels like everyone's just trying to make a quick buck - the developers rugpull laughing all the way while regular folks are left holding the bag. At some point the hype train always comes to a stop.
117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I make my own signature and use it on bitcointalk freely? on: March 29, 2024, 03:42:30 PM
Yes you can. But make sure it is legit and not a scam. You have not charges to pay. People that are wearing signature and avatar are the ones that are paid by the company that has the campaign.

But I think you are not a newbie because newbies will find it difficult to know those are signatures.

Can you please explain what does it mean “make sure it is legit” as I see most of the signatures is about casinos, so not sure that it is legit. But anyway, thanks for the answer, really appreciate that Wink

Let's put it this way, scams aren't moderated on this forum. Technically, you could promote a even scam platform in your signature without violating forum rules. However, keep in mind that other members, especially DT members (DefaultTrust), might tag your account with a negative trust rating if they have convincing evidence of a scam.

Also, NSFW content is not allowed according to forum rules, not even in signatures.
118  Economy / Speculation / Re: are you expecting Bitcoin to hit $400,000 after the bull run. on: March 28, 2024, 11:25:23 PM
I'm skeptical we'll see Bitcoin hit $400,000, though I guess anything's possible.  That seems wildly optimistic to me and  not saying it couldnt happen, but maybe we shouldn't get our hopes too high.  As someone already mentioned, the next halving might push us in that direction over the next four or five years...  Who knows.
119  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you been kicked out of a casino? on: March 28, 2024, 11:18:07 PM
Luckily, I haven't been kicked out from a real bricks-and-mortar casino before.  Don't really do the whole gambling in person thing, I prefer to just play online.  But I've heard the stories about people getting kicked out.  Sounds like you can get kicked out for all sorts of stuff - some of it fair, some of it kinda sketchy. i knew a guy who got barred for life after he went on a winning streak and security assumed he was cheating.  Pretty ridiculous rationale if you ask me.  But then again some people definitely deserve to get kicked to the curb for causing a ruckus or harassing other patrons.  At the end of the day, casinos can refuse service to anyone they want.  It's their prerogative.  Still seems harsh though when folks get blacklisted over petty stuff.
120  Other / Meta / Re: Alts vs farm. on: March 28, 2024, 11:01:48 PM
According to my understanding, having alt accounts for your personal use is allowed.
What is meant by having alt accounts for personal use. Do people have alt accounts for general or public use? Please clarify...

What I meant was to have an alt account to participate in specific discussions anonymously (maybe you're shy about a particular topic and don't want to expose your main account, as theymos mentioned somewhere) or to play around with a different persona (harmless fun, as long as it's within forum rules), or use alt accounts to access from different devices (for example a "mobile" account, as some members have).
