No, changing your password regularly is not a recommended practice by many security experts.  In fact, it can make things less secure.  People who change passwords a lot sometimes use simpler ones or reuse passwords across sites and  both bad ideas.  Best to use strong passwords.  And only change when there's a reason, like a breach somewhere else you used the same password.  No reason to regularly change just because.


Actually, I've never received an email from my email provider or bank advising me to change my password. Unless, of course, it was a preventative measure implemented following a security breach.

I don't believe the lack of spellcheck makes this forum more "real" or authentic.  Actually, I've seen many other forums I know don't use spellcheck either.  This probably owes to how spellcheck can be kind of a pain to configure and keep up, and it could also slow the forum. 

Basically, what makes a forum real or genuine boils down to the value of the conversations occurring there.  And for spellchecking better to put it on the user side, like in web browsers.

I know the feeling all too well.  You get your hopes up, thinking this is it - the big payout you've been waiting for.  The anticipation builds as you edge closer and closer.  Then bam! No dice!  Talk about a major letdown.  I've had plenty of close calls myself over the years.  And youre right, it really takes the wind out of your sails.  One minute youre riding high on the thrill of almost winning it big.  The next, you've crashed back down to earth with nothing to show for it. 

It's the risk we take when we play games of chance.  The emotional rollercoaster is part of the package.  As much as we revel in the exhilaration we have to be prepared for the accompanying plunges too.  The trick is learning how to roll with the punches when luck doesn't go your way.  Easier said than done sometimes, I know.  But, chin up! Theres always next time.

I hear you.  This crypto stuff can feel real overwhelming sometimes.  Heck, when I first got started, I was confuzzled as all get out! Couldn't tell a Bitcoin from a Dogecoin.   But I'll tell you what I've learned over the years - you cant expect no hand holding in these parts.  Them cowboy crypto traders they wanna see you stand on your own two feet and 

Now don't get me wrong, these folks here are mostly good people.  They'll give you some advice if you ask nice, point you to a few good coins maybe.  But when it comes day's end, your moneys yours to make or break.  Ain't no guarantees in this racket no sir.  Crypto coins go up and down faster than a yo-yo.  You gotta be ready to hold on tight.

My advice? Do your reading, figure out what projects you believe in, then give your wallet a slap on the ass and tell it to buckle up, cause you're in it for the long haul.  And whatever you do don't put in more money than you can stand to lose.

I respectfully disagree with the notion that no one enjoys gambling.  For some folks, hitting the tables or slots provides a welcomed chance to socialize and connect with their nearest and dearest and  take Poker Night with the guys, for instance.  Or that lively trip to the casino with the gals.  Even just snuggling up to play some online slots with your special someone. 

The way I see it, the social dimensions of gambling can infuse these pastimes with merriment and meaning win or lose.  The key is keeping perspective and not breaking the bank.

Beyond social bonds, gambling also allows some people to relax and decompress.  Sliding a few bucks into a BUSY slot machine while waiting around.  Attempting to best the blackjack dealer in a battle of wits and odds.  For these folks, a little wagering is a salve for the worries of life, if only for a short while. 

I don't think I can answer your question in the poll, because there is no simple answer.  Gambling makes people feel all kinds of ways - excited when you win, frustrated when you lose, disappointed if you don't win as much as you hoped, even guilty or ashamed about spending so much time and money.  If gambling leaves you with bad feelings afterwards don't ignore them - let yourself feel whatever comes up.

You're so right.  We gotta think about who we're talking to.  For folks with gambling problems or who've lost a bunch betting, hearing stuff like that can hurt or even trigger unhealthy stuff.  I'm not saying hide it but maybe tone down the bragging around certain people and  the last thing we wanna do is rub salt in someone's wounds or cause them pain. Just something to chew on.

Crypto and real estate can both be good investments if you play your cards right.  But with only a little bit of money to invest, real estate is probably out of reach.  You'd likely need at least tens of thousands of dollars for even a small down payment on a place. 

Cryptocurrency on the other hand offers a way to potentially get big returns without a huge buy in.  The catch is that crypto tends to be volatile and  so you gotta have the stomach for some serious ups and downs if you wanna ride that rollercoaster.  But hey, you might catch it on an upswing and do really well if lady luck is on your side.

Just know that any investment carries risks.  Don't put in more money than you can afford to lose.  But if you've got a little discretionary income set aside to play with, crypto could give you a shot to turn it into something more substantial.  At least more likely than trying to scrape together enough for real estate right now.

Who knows maybe once your crypto gains roll in youll have enough for that downpayment after all!

I get why some folks don't like going through Know Your Customer stuff.  Handing over private info to a company you don't know makes people nervous.  And yeah, companies have screwed up and leaked data before, so that doesn't help either.  I think if companies were more transparent about how they safeguard your information, more people might feel better about it.  But for now the anxiety is understandable.

So, I understand the desire to get around policies, but it's best to follow proper channels.  Attempting shortcuts could backfire with closed accounts or legal issues. Either way, cooperation tends to work out better for all.

Yeah, we gotta think for ourselves when moneys involved.  What's popular ain't always right.  Social media makes spreading opinions too easy - even bad ones.  Investing like that rarely goes how you hope.

As a student studying cloud computing, you can totally explore blockchain at the same time.  The stuff in your classes like distributed systems and encryption and consensus methods relates to blockchain anyway.  You're already learning things that cross over into blockchain behind the scenes.

No reason a student couldn't pursue both interests in parallel - maybe even discover innovative ways they intersect.

I think Bitcoin's got legs in the long run, but no way am I gonna bet the farm on some pie-in-the-sky price target.  I'm playing the long game here - just gonna ride out the highs and lows and wait for my precious coins to shine and  if we ever get to 100k, heymazel tov, but I ain't cashing out completely.  Maybe just a little to treat myself.  Nah, hitting a number like that - itll tell me I wasn't nuts for hodling and remind me why I got into this whole crazy ride in the first place. 

I'm not one of those guys watching the charts all day, ready to dump everything.  I believe in this thing.  That means taking the downturns with the upswings.  So I'll keep on hodling keep on waiting, maybe grab a little profit if we moon.  But I didnt get into Bitcoin to make a quick buck.  I'm here for the long haul.

I'm not so sure about those statistics OP mentioned.  From what I've read, way more people seem to be investing in bitcoin for the long run instead of trading it.  The numbers show that a ton more buy it planning to hold it rather than try to make a quick buck off price changes. 

Sure, some make money playing the volatility game in the short term.  But those traders are by far the minority compared to the growing number of investors who think bitcoin could explode in value down the road.  Most folks aren't out to make a fast profit - they want to hold it for years and hopefully make a killing when it really takes off and  thats been the pattern at least.  People buy it and hang onto it, rather than flipping it day to day or week to week.  They're playing the long game not trying to time the dips and peaks.

Just doesn't seem right to say there are more traders than investors.  From everything I've seen its the total opposite.

Nevertheless, we reap as we sow.  I think we can all agree on that.  So whatever treatment you get on this forum stems from how you act.  If you want folks here to be kinder to you, then you gotta start being kinder yourself first.  Show more respect, manners and open-mindedness and  get into meaningful conversations and avoid spreading misinformation or negativity.  If you can do these things, you will start to see a difference in how people treat you.
