281  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for good web hosting on: May 07, 2012, 08:02:19 PM
I would second BitVPS.COM cause I run it.

We have a shared hosting server for people who don't want to deal with VPS.

james@bitvps.com / sales@bitvps.com for a custom deal.
282  Economy / Services / Re: [SOLD OUT] MomentoVPS - Immediately Available KVM VPS SSD backed on: May 07, 2012, 06:12:51 AM
That's a shame gusti.

There are many other quality VPS providers around: BitVPS.COM, Luke-jr's VM cluster, etc

BitVPS has a promotion for Bitcointalk members to get 50% off their first month using the coupon code 'BTALK' during sign up.

Don't leach other peoples threads, ass.

Uhh he poaches clients out of #bitvps, thats why hes banned.
What comes around, goes around.

Figured I'd add that the 2-4btc is negotiable depending on the level/quality of your work.

286  Economy / Marketplace / [WTB] BitVPS.COM needs new banners/ads [2-4 BTC?] on: April 30, 2012, 10:01:44 AM
Ok,

I can no longer pain prospective customers with my ugly 5 minute banners/ads. I'd like to have something professional looking. I don't care if you're a professional or not, so long as your work is nice.

Feel free to respond here with your work, ideas, etc.

Basically what we'd like the banners to emphasize is our multiple hosting locations, low pricing, and our new logo (which also isn't that great but will do for now)

http://www.bitvps.com/wp-content/themes/bitvps/images/logo.png <- thats the logo we'd like to incorporate into the banner.

I'd prefer a banner that isn't ugly/takes focus away from the content of the site hosting it.

When listing ideas/samples/previous work please include a price you're looking for and the time frame you can complete this in. We're not looking for someone who is tied up with other work and can't complete our stuff in a timely fashion.

If you have any other questions you may contact me on the forum, leave a post here, email me james AT bitvps.com or contact me on Freenode IRC, my nickname is 'rg'

Thanks so much!
James @ BitVPS.COM

hmm j/w if it is true that the server was sold before the lease agreement is up. bc in that instant your BitVPS Policy - # We are not liable for any damage or loss of data. All clients are responsible for the backup of their data. would be null and void since you broke the lease contract. at least that is how it would play out in a court.

Generally, a service provider limits their liability to the terms of their agreement via SLAs.  I.e., bitvps is not going to get any money from their hosting provider beyond a day or two credit (if it was the hosting company's fault) and bitvps will have to eat any overtime, etc., spent cleaning up the mess, along with any credit they have to issue to their customers, e.g., Goat.

Think about your cable modem.  If you work at home and your broadband connection goes down for the day, the cable company isn't responsible for your lost wages or the coffees you ended up buying at SBUX to use their wifi all day, even if it were a business account.  They would never make back the money you claim to have "lost".

However, when you call the cable company after it's cleared up, they'll credit your account for the outage, and usually round up (to the day, week, whatever) to appear customer focused.

The whole industry is built on a stack like this.  Why do data center providers have to use multiple network carriers, each of which exits a different side of the building?  Why do they have redundant power along with redundant generators?  It's because if the power company takes out a line, they don't go out of business.

Sure, they have insurance, but that is yet another negotiated agreement that will just balance expense and risk.

Goat's going to end up eating whatever loss is involved in the contents of that server.  He may choose to pay out of pocket, assuming he has the btc and can come to some terms with what is owed to miners.  Without backups, his ability to determine that is based on the honesty of the miners. (In math, we call that "epsilon".)  What he does is up to him, and yes, you'll probably feel ripped off.

Sure, bitvps failed to provide a service, and frankly, I do not believe they are qualified to run a hosting business for anything other than personal websites, but their liability is limited.  They just handled this in a really immature way in a public forum.  It would be in their best interests never to discuss this sort of issue in public, even if Goat made up lies such as,"They copied my wallet off the server and THEN set fire to it, and by the way, rg told me he was shakaru!"

EDIT: imsaguy is an annoyance.

reeses, you're such an intelligent man

Are you a lawyer/judge?

You are extremely difficult to work with.
292  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [102% TESTING] I want your hashing power! "Project #2" on: April 28, 2012, 04:06:56 PM
I have talked to Chaang and all I got was a bunch of curse words thrown at me, complaints about mtgox, his lawyer, wife, etc, not the issue at hand.

I want to make one thing *sparklingly* clear.:
BitVPS Policy - # We are not liable for any damage or loss of data. All clients are responsible for the backup of their data.

That has been up on BitVPS.COM since day one. (http://www.bitvps.com/information2/terms-of-service/)

We are NOT liable for their data loss YET we are still helping them because we believe in the Bitcoin Community and will help as much as we can.
I am honestly at a loss here because I try to work something out with Chaang and he freaks out at me.

So you may flame and say what you will, but, we're doing ALL we can to help. I can't do anything til the owner of the server decides what to do to payout the users(we pretty much have it down, its a matter of implementation)

Ask Linode how much they helped Bitcoinica after they had 100k BTC stolen.

Thanks for your attention in this matter,
James "rg" Edward
293  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [102% TESTING] I want your hashing power! "Project #2" on: April 26, 2012, 04:45:39 PM
Any ETA's by RG? Seems really unprofessional by a VPS company to sell their clients' servers while still in contract.

Unfortunately its not that simple. This will all be fixed in due time. I'm just waiting for the person who actually pays for the server to talk to me. BitVPS is going to do what we can to fix this and attempt to make every happy, as per the usual.
294  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [102% TESTING] I want your hashing power! "Project #2" on: April 26, 2012, 04:43:59 PM
1. Chaang is not listed on the account, he did not sign up, his name is not listed anywhere.
*I am unable to discuss any specifics with him*

2. The person who *did* sign up and their name is on the account I have been in constant contact with him since this whole fiasco happened. We are also dealing with our own issues with the DC as they have given us the royal screw job.

So there's our statement.

Hi TizzyTazzy,

I am the owner of BitVPS.COM. I wanted to give you some hints for your ad. It helps to list the specifications of your hardware, where its located, what makes you better than the competition and other misc info. You need to grab the customer and bring them to your site. Just listing prices and a few specs isnt enough.

Good Luck!
James @ BitVPS

Though in the spirit of honesty, I do agree 20BTC is a lot. But then I realize not everyone is as poor as me.
