It isn't just the increase in difficulty that causes you to earn less. any increase in hashrate will adversely affect how much you earn.

Not until the next difficulty adjustment.
1162  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BitMinter client (Win/Linux/Mac, BFL ASIC, Block Erupter USB) on: November 16, 2013, 06:14:52 PM
Still timeout:

"Probe of port cu.usbmodem621 failed: timeout"

Running MacOS 10.8.5 with Java 7 Update 45

So it is still not recognized?
1163  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BitMinter client (Win/Linux/Mac, BFL ASIC, Block Erupter USB) on: November 16, 2013, 03:36:22 PM
After unplug an plug the Device it is recognized, but it still won't hash.

Any error messages at all?
1164  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BitMinter client (Win/Linux/Mac, BFL ASIC, Block Erupter USB) on: November 16, 2013, 12:09:44 AM
I'm gonna test it with a Block Erupter USB type cause the 1.4 didn't like the proof of work  Cry
After few hours: Nope, it doesn't work. What shall I do? Tips pls...

What do you mean 1.4 didn't like the proof of work? Do you see an error message?

Still Time out with BF1. Any News?

If it still fails to detect even after you unplug and plug the device back in, then use bfgminer for now. I hope to get this fixed soon.
1165  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Mint Race #5: Win a KnC Jupiter 550 GH/s ASIC device! on: November 15, 2013, 11:36:23 PM
It's time for the mid-race analysis.

Early on we saw bitmeme take the lead with his tried and true strategy "mine fast". At first this seemed like a good strategy, and mining at 4+ TH/s got him quickly into first place.

The problems started for bitmeme when a duo of small miners arrived. KPR120 and subseaguru quickly deployed their strategy "be incredibly lucky". Mining at a sneaky 30 and 16 GH/s their strategy proved superior. We first saw KPR120 move into first place, and later subseaguru.

The luck strategy has proven resilient, although we did see nicetime get a good block yesterday. It was close but only got him fourth place. Other than that the last few days have been quiet, not even a single one of Fefox's rigs catching on fire.

On the top50 fastest users list we have seen a few users improve their hashrate and a couple new users arriving. But there are not that many changes. Rather than fast miners, we see big masses of slow miners joining up. We can only attribute this to the result of the recent duel between the "mine fast" and "be incredibly lucky" strategies. Miners are learning and adapting.

So, with half the race remaining, which of the many possible strategies should miners go for? Being lucky seems like the winning choice so far.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but I got a new phone a Win 8 phone and I can't get the website menus to work for me. I don't know if it's me or what. The first page comes up but you can't click/press on the menus to go to anything. What happens is you press on it and the menu pops up but then it goes away before you can choose anything.

Yeah, I think there's a problem there. I'll need to get a win phone emulator to test it I think. I don't have any of those devices available.

Situation: Running 3 ASIC miners in BFGMiner with no problem. Got my Red Fury yesterday and plugged it in, loaded drivers and it will not recognize it. It knows it's there but ignores it. I did move folders to C: . Still nothing. Tried re-installing the drivers, but nothing. I also noticed I am not getting a COM number under the icon in Devices and Printers for the Bitfury BF1.

Did you install the tiny bf1.inf driver file from the bfgminerwin.zip file that they have in the blue fury support thread?

What's this mean ?

Reward-Drop ETA: 2016-09-23 22:24:06 UTC (149 weeks, 1 day, 8 hours, 10 minutes)

That's the next reward halving. After that each block will have 12.5 new coins.

We still have a while to go though, it's not that long since the previous reward halving from 50 to 25 new coins per block.
1168  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Personal opinion on: November 14, 2013, 06:14:01 PM
So this is a comparison of the luck of two pools over a few days?

Remember that past luck has no effect on future luck.

1169  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: 8 decimals payout system pool ? on: November 14, 2013, 06:10:41 PM
Cash out even amounts down to 0.00000001 ?

That sounds like a bad idea. What kind of transaction fees will you have to pay after filling your wallet with such tiny amounts?

Listen to the people who collected tiny amounts from "get free bitcoins" websites, and the problems they had afterwards with fees.

Seriously, organofcorti is absolutely the man when it comes to statistical analysis.

Both Organofcorti and Meni Rosenfeld are very good with the math, statistics and perhaps most importantly: probability theory.

I think it is human nature to fail horribly at understanding probability.

It's OK to not be as good as these guys. I think it is more important to understand the limitations of our own knowledge and skills. Read and use the stuff they write. Smiley

Never used a different pool. never will in all probability unless Bitminter ceases to exist. Just wanted to say a big thanks to Doc and happy mining everyone..
Just wanna say, I never had it "so good when I could mine on Bitminter".

Thank you, sirs Smiley Much appreciated.

Does this work in ubuntu ?

The Bitminter client works in Ubuntu, yes. Or you can use any other mining client with the Bitminter pool.
1172  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [270 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: November 14, 2013, 10:24:01 AM
Blockchain.info has wrongly identified a block at height 269542 as coming from Bitminter. Some miners are already asking about this. It does not go to an address we control and there is no "BitMinter" text in the coinbase.

The block is not from Bitminter and I have no idea what makes blockchain.info think so. Perhaps it was relayed through one of our bitcoin nodes. Note that blockchain.info is very unreliable for identifying who made a block, and as a result their estimates of the hashrates of each pool is also very unreliable.

Edit: Im not doin too bad, this is over 24hrs with 3 333 sticks.

That's a lot of sticks.  Cheesy

Sorry, couldn't help it.
1174  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: November 13, 2013, 11:12:00 PM
I was going to try out Bitminter again, which I havent done for a long time - back when they first started, but after 20~ hours of hashing at 200GH/s - I had only 0.05BTC (almost all unconfirmed). Meanwhile here at slush I usually have at least 0.2BTC in that time span. The luck wasn't too bad at all during that time, so it wasn't that.

The luck is unfortunately very bad right now, after 96.73% and 74.41% CDF blocks we are now at 98.08% CDF with no block after 8 hours 48 minutes. Only 5 blocks in the last 24 hours. Add to that the fact that it takes about 10 hours from you do some work until that work is fully paid.. this is why the payout so far was low.

So I asked them what would cause this. There weren't any terribly long blocks happening on their end. The luck wasn't THAT bad. But my payouts were terribad. When asked, I was greeted by snark criticism rather than helpfulness and now insults to boot. Even after my question had been answered politely by someone nice enough. But never again.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I tried my best to explain about the variance and the work-to-payout delay, without any criticism. I think some miners got a little annoyed though.
1175  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [270 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: November 13, 2013, 10:54:36 PM
Let's calm down, guys. This is nothing to fight over. OmegaNemesis28, if you give the pool a few days I'm sure you will like it. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

If you mined only the last 24 hours then the payout looks bad because of the combination of bad luck right now (variance) and a 10 hour delay between doing work and getting paid.

Over 7000 people mine at Bitminter every day. They wouldn't do that if we paid out less than 50% of other pools.

There is some info on the payouts here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27062.msg2769824#msg2769824
If you really want to understand it then look through Organofcorti's analysis: http://organofcorti.blogspot.com/2013/05/131-bitminter-and-luck.html
1176  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Mint Race #5: Win a KnC Jupiter 550 GH/s ASIC device! on: November 13, 2013, 06:38:07 PM
Things are heating up on the top 50 fastest miners list. First mmt caught up with Ayrat at the top of the list. But now we see soniq push fast them into a solid first place hashrate-wise.

In the race rankings, though, we only see some changes among positions 7-8-9. subseaguru's hash is proving hard to beat. With only 16-17 GH/s he was very lucky to get a hash that good. But can the luck last another 17 days to the end of the race?
1177  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [270 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: November 13, 2013, 06:18:29 PM
The future reward is what I was reading from. 0.05BTC. Normally within a day I have easy 0.2BTC~ even when things get rough. I'll let it run another day, but it still doesn't look like its improving.

16 blocks yesterday looks very nice. 5 blocks so far today is less nice. It goes up and down a bit. A day or two is often not enough to even out the element of luck.

Remember the 10 shift (10 hours right now) delay though. If you mined for only 24 hours so far and there is a 10 hour delay from work is done until that work is fully paid, it's only natural that the coins come in slowly at first. That doesn't mean you are paid badly, the pay is coming, whether you keep mining or not.
1178  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [270 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: November 13, 2013, 05:43:41 PM
I know GHs per shift has some variance, but I am observing that I am consistently 5-10% down on the shifts that end in the 10AM hour, bitminter time. Sometimes it's as bad as 15-20%

Is there some reason for this? I am thinking  network congestion near the Bitminter end as the business day starts in Germany. Is there anything I can do to avoid it?

I'm not seeing this in my stats. The Bitminter mining server is in the US currently. That would be the middle of the night where the server is. And it doesn't seem to be affecting me. Could it be something on your end? Or could it be random - did you look at many days at 10 AM and they all showed this?

I wanted to come back to bitminter. But after mining for 20~ hours with 200 GH/s I'm only seeing 0.05BTC. Was it just a bad few rounds? Even with bad rounds, I never had it this bad at slush.

Remember there is a delay from you do some work until it is paid, 10 shifts, which is currently almost 10 hours. If you don't use the prepay perk then block confirmations also take almost 20 hours, although you will be able to see the unconfirmed balance immediately after the block is found.

Have a look at the reward graphs:

https://bitminter.com/stats/rewards

That's the last 2-3 weeks. Looks pretty even. We did have that one monster round, so if you mined during that the payouts were low. We soon after recouped our losses with many lucky blocks, but maybe you had left the pool at that time.

There is also some useful info on the payouts here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27062.msg2769824#msg2769824

And remember, if you get the lowest hash in november you win a KnC Jupiter: https://bitminter.com/mintrace

Anyway all my problems went away when I rolled back to v1.3.2 of bitminter. For some reason every version subsequent will not find the erupters.  I should mention this problem is unique to my crappy old Windows XP laptop. My Max OSX machine will happily run the erupters with no drama.

Maybe it's an issue with Win XP, I don't know. Can you upgrade or switch to Linux? I don't think Microsoft will give any more extensions on the Windows XP end of life. Currently their site says april 8, 2014. After that you get no more security updates and your computer gets hacked.

Is there any way to configure the speedometer-scaling of the own computional power within bitminter.com ? my speed is now calculated and shown in Ghps  (depresssing 1.3 of 200 Ghps ) rather than in Mhps (1326 of 3000 Mhps) ?

Not currently. I'll put on my TODO list to make it adjust more dynamically, like the speedometer in Bitminter client.

I just ordered my Red Fury. You say it works fine with the Bitminter client? Just plug and it'll detect it? I'm kind of new to mining so any guidance will be appreciated Smiley

There is support in the beta version, but it doesn't seem to work for most people. I'm working on that. In the meantime try bfgminer.
1180  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [270 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: November 13, 2013, 07:16:47 AM
Personal Assets Balance Unconfirmed Future Expected per block

Would you consider a "confirmed" colum that shows what's been confirmed but just not added to account balance yet ? I suspect you could even have it to show the "true" balance, by that I mean confirmed stuff thats yet to be paid but has fees aalready deducted.
I think that's what "balance" shows now... confirmed payout with fees/donations already deducted.

Yes. The balance is the true balance. Everything paid to your Bitminter account that you haven't cashed out yet. After a block is confirmed the income from that block moves from your unconfirmed balance to your regular balance. This normally takes only a few seconds to happen, so I don't think there is the need for another balance for "confirmed" or "payment about to happen".

back to bitminter. This time for good. I love this pool. It just feels right

Welcome home Smiley
