1281  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BitMinter client (Win/Linux/Mac, BFL ASIC, Block Erupter USB) on: October 21, 2013, 05:27:14 AM
I'm tempted to try another client and see if it can detect the Erupters.  Any suggestions?

You could try bfgminer. It uses the same drivers I believe.

Hi I'm using cgminer and my eroupters all went down recently marked as dead though it seemed like it was trying to revive with no luck. It probably has nothing to do with bit minter it self but it was wierd it started happening after joining this pool.

Any error messages? Did you try if running with just 1 erupter works? Did you try reinstalling the driver?

I do have to ask on another note how I can set the difficulty for my mining in this pool. It feels like for my 6 europters I'm not getting alot of shares at difficulty 2 which was sufficient on btcGuild and way to low for whatever eclipseMC thought of my mining. I haven't tripped over an auto set mode so i can get an idea what bitminter thinks is appropriate difficulty for my current and future speeds.

The Bitminter server will auto adjust your difficulty. Setting a minimum difficulty is most useful right after you connect to the server, making the initial difficulty ramp up less bumpy.

Doc I started with Bitminter when the pool was around 15 th's. A few short months later the pool is doing well! 130-135 th's! I don't know a lot about website building. But I say you got this!!!

Great to work with Bitminter!!

Thanks Smiley 15 TH... things are moving quickly in the Bitcoin world.

Any Jupiter owners mining on Bitminter?

I believe most on the top 50 use Jupiter. I would guess most use Stratum. You could get lower bandwidth usage and perhaps slightly less rejected work with Stratum, but otherwise I think GBT should work fine. Maybe some Jupiter users can give some advice on upping the hashrate.

Is there a problem with Bitminter?

I don't understand why I am seeing expected block of 0.00562295?

I checked out one of the other sites and my expected block count is much higher at 226GH/s.

If you didn't mine full speed during the last 10 shifts then the pay per block won't be as high as if you had. More work means more pay.

Plus what TheQuin said. If pool hashrate goes up and your hashrate stays the same then your pay per block will go down but you will get paid for more blocks per day. Your average pay actually stays the same, but the variance decreases. Some info here: http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/10731/mining-pool-hashrate-effect-on-a-miners-income

Have you tried setting "Minimum difficulty" for your worker to 512? Some people reported that it helped if the miner did not switch difficulties.

Speaking of which is there some sort of tuning guide for the new options and/or bfgminer on bitminter, or is it all buried in this monster somewhere?

I wrote a bit about work submits per minute here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27062.msg3142713#msg3142713

The minimum difficulty option was added after that. Many suggest to set it to your hashrate in gigahashes divided by 1.4. The server will still auto adjust your difficulty, but the minimum diff gives a smoother start when you connect to the pool, so that the server doesn't have to bring you up from difficulty 1.

When block erupters fail and don't come back, what happens when you go "devices" -> "probe all ports" in the menu? Are there any errors or messages at all about those COM/tty ports?
1285  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [110 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: October 17, 2013, 02:42:35 PM
any idea why my 2 jupiters now hashing 300GH on bitminter ? both dropped after 9.00

Did you look at the cgminer on the jupiter? Does it show a lot of hardware errors or error messages? Or just a low hashrate?

The upgrade was done. Mining service running as normal.

A short mining service outage is coming up in a few minutes. I need to pop in a new version of the software. Expected downtime: 10 seconds.

An issue has been found in Namecoin. The Namecoin guys are testing out a fix for it. We will deploy the fix and continue to merge mine namecoins. Namecoin is not dying like some have been predicting, and there are no plans to remove them from BitMinter.

Is there an infrastructure problem with the doubling in hashrate of the pool in the past month ?

No, the hashrate has no direct impact on the mining server load, because of variable difficulty. Someone mining with a KNC device causes the same load as someone mining with GPU.

6 000 active workers mining and 60 000 page views per day on the website, those are the numbers that matter.

Mining server, website, database, they are all at light load. So it is still safe to recommend BitMinter to your friends.  Grin

By the way, it is awesome to see the pool growing. Thank you to all who mine in this pool!

If I had a power outage and was running bitminter client for say 10 hours, does all my work/payout get lost? This has happened to me 3 times so far because of storms here. Does it automatically save the amount of work you did? I just paid 4 grand for 2 60gh/s machines from bflabs. Like right now,Im about to exit th program but dont kno if I can because all my work/pay will get lost? Does the pool always know how much work you put in,no matter if the program quits unexpectedly?

No, nothing is lost. When the accepted proofs of work tick up in the client it means the server accepted the work, and the server keeps track of that. The stats in the client are just for the current session, since the last time you restarted the client. There's also a button to reset the stats in the client, which is quite safe to use, it won't affect the work registered at the server.

Bitminter also gives me Namecoins is there anyway to convert them into BTC's or if they are worthless how do I stop farming them as well?

Thanks

You can set namecoin donation to 100% if you don't want them. Or you can sell them at exchanges like btc-e.com

Doc I'm running win 7, I do not get any warning messages. I have my client set just like you described. The problem i am having just started a few days ago. I will lose a usb stick  it wont restart, and the client does not see its offline. This has happened twice now. I have to unplug it, plug it back in then the client will pick it back up.

In the client the device just locks up, even hashrate gets stuck? Try reinstalling the driver for the sticks - I think that's some sort of driver issue.
1291  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [50 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: October 12, 2013, 08:37:26 PM
I agree ,I'am running vista and the Bitminter client does not reconnect after the smallest of disruptions.

Try the latest version (1.4.2) and go "settings" -> "options..." then the "devices" tab. Set it to rescan every few seconds or minutes, and turn on "repeat rescan of failed ports". This will ensure that even though the hub or ASIC device doesn't work properly for a while after it disappears and reappears, BitMinter client will not give up after the first try, but will keep trying all COM ports over and over.

That's not on by default as all the error messages you would get if you have a COM port that is not an ASIC device are pretty annoying.

Here's a compromise, trying to make the most of the max topic length Smiley

The post above has a link to the previous version in case you have problems with the new release. There's also a bunch of different versions available under the "tools" menu on the website.

The only changes in the new version are listed above. I don't think your problems are related to the new version. I don't see why it would take longer to load either. That the devices lock up, including the hashrate, sounds like a driver issue. Perhaps reinstalling the silabs drivers can help.
1294  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [90 TH] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: October 09, 2013, 07:46:09 PM
Guys,

we need a few more TH/s to reach 100 TH/s.

A few +1 on Google+ would also be nice so we can reach 1000: https://bitminter.com/+

Thanks for the idea but unfortunately it didn't helped. I even tried with WinUSB driver (zadig) but nothing changed.
The laptop is on a docking station but with it or without it I got the same error message. Sad

Zadig is only used by cgminer. You could try that too. I'm running out of ideas.
1296  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [90 TH] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: October 09, 2013, 06:27:16 AM
The only reason I had to restart my clients were that the fans were to loud overnight .
I have removed all fans and placed my usb's and computer in a tub of oil so I have been able to run overnight getting the full 24hr period .
So the issue is not a major deal but it would be nice to see a resolution .
Please don't take my posts as complaints I'am simply trying to help iron out issues with you .

Thanks, I'll look into this.

Cannot probe COM124: port in use
Cannot probe COM117: port in use

Looks like the ports are in use. Another miner running in the background? If you can't figure out what it is, maybe a reboot helps?

On the laptop is nothing special, freshly installed Win7, new java and that's it.
Does anyone have some idea what could be wrong?

This kind of thing typically happens because the block erupters don't get enough power. But I guess this is a powered USB hub, so I don't see why it should fail when using it with the laptop. You could try reinstalling the drivers. I have heard of at least one instance where that fixed it.

The tick boxes at the side of my com ports to enale auto restart.

I have 11 but only about 3 stay ticked .

The others have appeared with new COM port numbers?
1299  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [80 TH] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: October 08, 2013, 07:47:57 PM
Any update to the clock and hash rate indicator not working on start up, after a restart my client works.
One thing I notice the tick boxes at the side of my auto start do not save and I have to re tick them every time I start the client

I haven't been able to reproduce the hashrate indicators failing on any of my computers, so I'm having some problems tracking this bug down.

Which tick boxes exactly are those? All of them?

Was running the best I ever have on 50+ BE sticks using Bitminter client with 3.0 hubs chained through 2.0 hubs but right at the time of Silk Road and forum being down, 3 OCT, have been down hard for days.  Have been trying all manner of things to troubleshoot.  No Joy, stumped.  Please help.  First question, what do you need to efficiently diagnose this problem?  Java Log?  TIA

With block erupters the problem is almost always that they don't get enough power.

What exactly is going wrong? Do you see any error messages, or what do you see that shows you something is wrong?
