Yes, buying or selling accounts is allowed, but that doesn't mean the staff or admins endorse it, but it's not against the rules. But lenders can get easily scammed by account status of member, and scammers can purchase an account at a low price, then get a loan of, perhaps 0.5 for a senior member, then sell the negative trust account.(people are buying negative trust accounts for some reason.) That's the lenders problem and that's why you shouldn't give collateral free loans, especially ones just based on forum rank. It's also unlikely you'll get a 0.5 loan without any though, nor will you get much for an account with negative feedback. Thinking about it...any one purchasing accounts, be sure to confirm with the escrow there are no open loans on the account. I can only imagine scammers selling their account after they've received a loan to juice out every bit. |

oldest price I could find on bitcoincharts [3] is from 2011-09-13 ~5 USD per BTC. The donations come from a time when BTC wasnt worth as much. It was discussed often if the amount to donate for VIP should be lowered, but theymos and others in charge think it would not be fair to those that donated 50 BTC in the past. I also think its a good idea that VIP essentials says: I have been here a long time and I believed in it. If the amount to donated would be lowered to e.g. 0.4 BTC (~ equivalent in USD to 50 BTC 2011) we'd see way to many VIPs.
With the price of a single bitcoin increasing every year, I think there should be a third category for people who donate a lesser amount, e.g. 1 BTC. Or perhaps different tiers such as bronze donator: 0.01 BTC, silver: 0.1 BTC, gold: 1 BTC, and platinum: 10 BTC. Existing donators would be given platinum status and VIPs would remain as VIPs. It's not fair for the people who donated earlier for this to happen. |

The false positives are signs of being edgy. Otherwise I wouldn't compare Ebola to influenza. Ebola virus can survive up to 10x longer than influenza and kills up to 50%-80% of people it effects. Center for Disease Control thinks there could be 1.5 million cases within 4 months. Still that's only 700,000 people dying when the US has over 1+ million legal immigrants in a year 1.4 million under the complete best circumstances is what the CDC predicts and that's a long shot. That's the best scenario with people slobbering all over each other. In my opinion, Ebola while deadly, is containable. In Africa, the death toll is at 3,400 plus after months with mediocre treatment, and the most of all, ignorance. When I say ignorance, I mean people believing Ebola is a government scam or personally carrying Ebola victims with no protection. Even with the ignorance and poor technology, we are at a relatively small amount of deaths for the magnitude of the disease. |

Account selling is still allowed and banning it would be futile. Disallowing it would just push the sale of accounts even further underground and probably make it even easier for them to scam with their accounts. Whether account selling is banned or not it will still happen just like scams and scammers so people just need to be extra vigilant and on the lookout for suspicious activity like you are doing now.
Agreed. As soon as it's disallowed, people's guard will go down. Their diligence when doing any type of trades will probably go down assuming the account owner is original. |
