1701  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buy me 3 HD5970 for 2300 BTC on: March 29, 2011, 05:29:20 PM
if you're gonna ask someone to buy something for you, pay them first. that way, you can't re-negotiate the deal at your door.

Hmm good point. A lot of trust would be needed to pay first. Perhaps I should offer using an escrow service?
1702  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buy me 3 HD5970 for 2300 BTC on: March 29, 2011, 05:27:42 PM
lol is this a joke? So your gonna pay nothing for all the trouble of buying and delivering these cards to your lazy ass.. yeah good luck with that

Not a joke. I do suggest buyers to wait until the exchange rate raises above my $0.857/BTC offer, that way you make a profit.
1703  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ship me this RFID coil antenna for 30 BTC on: March 29, 2011, 09:38:09 AM
Yeah... I had a hard time finding magnet wire on Digikey, but Mouser seems to have some.

1704  Economy / Marketplace / Ship me this RFID coil antenna for 30 BTC on: March 29, 2011, 08:38:51 AM
I need a pre-made RFID coil antenna of about 2cm diameter, and 0.5-3mH for a small 125kHz RFID project. (I may later need a bulk of them - too lazy to wind them myself). I found only one seller of a similar item, but it is an Australian shop:

http://www.priority1design.com.au/shopfront/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=7

They don't seem to ship in the US. I would like to ask a fellow Australian to buy it (4.40 AUD), and to ship it to my address in the USA, I will pay you 30 BTC beforehand for your services, completely trusting you that you won't scam me and never ship anything Smiley

1706  Economy / Marketplace / [RETRACTED] Buy me 3 HD5970 for 2300 BTC on: March 29, 2011, 07:20:56 AM
This store in Los Angeles has at least 3 HD5970 available for $599.99 each ($655 including taxes): Fry's Electronic, 6100 Canoga Avenue, Woodland Hills, CA 91367 (Google maps) (Fry's map) (store hours)

Availability and price of the HD5970 can be checked on: http://www.frys.com/product/6099158  (add to cart, select 'store pickup', and search by zip code)

In fact multiple Fry's in the area carry the HD5970. But the stores are far from where I live, my time is precious, I have plenty BTC but a little strapped on cash right now, etc.

So, go buy three HD5970 from this store (or any other store), it should cost you about $1970 incl. taxes, deliver them to my place, and I will pay you 2300 BTC (my rate is equivalent to $0.857/BTC). Of course I expect a store receipt (I will not accept the delivery without it) and the cards in their original packaging. I live in south Redondo Beach (20min from LAX). You can deliver them any weekday after 8pm, or on the weekends. I will pay you on delivery. Feel free to hang out at my place a few minutes, as you wait for one transaction confirmation from the Bitcoin network. I am a cool guy, live alone, and south Redondo Beach is not a shady area :-)

1707  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Trial: 15 Ghash/s for sale (RPC mining, or zero-variance) on: March 28, 2011, 06:34:25 AM
Pure JSON-RPC mining service is an option I do offer.

1709  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Trial: 15 Ghash/s for sale on: March 27, 2011, 11:48:12 AM
Where are you seeing .82? I'm seeing .88 and up on MtGox.

The "last" price on MtGox at the time of my post (7:21pm PDT) was 0.823 USD/BTC.
1710  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Mining contract: raw RPC mining, or zero-variance delivery on: March 27, 2011, 02:21:41 AM
I operate a mining cluster, and offer selling mining capacity at a price of: 2.48 BTC per Ghash/s per day (valid from May 27 00:01 UTC). The price changes frequently, so check with me frequently. Email me at m.bevand@gmail.com

Rent this mining capacity for any number of days, from 1 to 365 days. Yes, you can rent 10 Ghash/s for just 1 day, if you want so.

The minimum purchase quantity is 1 Ghash/s. I currently have over 20 Ghash/s available.

You decide to receive the Bitcoins in 1 of 2 ways:
  • Zero-variance contract. Either you provide a Bitcoin address to which an amount of Bitcoins is delivered on a daily basis. This amount is calculated statistically from the purchased mining power and the current difficulty. This is known as a "zero-variance" contract.
  • JSON-RPC mining service. Or you provide a Bitcoin JSON-RPC endpoint of your choice (eg. http://host:8332, authenticated with a user/password) to which I connect my miners.

FAQ:

Q: Buying Bitcoins from the market is cheaper! Why do you offer this service?
A: I will be the first mining contractor to admit openly that, yes, it is cheaper to buy from the market. However, some users value freshly mined coins more than "used" coins on the market. I do this cheaper than any existing mining contractor such as BitcoinRigs, or vladimir. Also, a raw RPC mining service is particularly useful in certain cases, see jgarzik's venture below.

Q: Are you guaranteeing truly minted coins?
A: Yes. You may check the coins origin using blockexplorer.com when you receive them. They will originate from blocks of freshly mined Bitcoins, then travel through at most 1 or 2 wallets/keypairs throughout my infrastructure, before they are sent to you.

Q: What is the point in converting Bitcoins into Bitcoins?
A: There is demand for it. Users have asked the existing mining contractors (BitcoinRigs, vladimir) if they could purchase mining power in Bitcoins, but they do not do it. My service fills this demand!

Lol, I love the terseness of this angry smiley.

(Erick, what is your address? I will send you 1 BTC because you deserve it and you made be laugh.)
1712  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SELLERS: Let's Raise Our Prices to $2/BTC! on: March 19, 2011, 11:53:53 PM
I take it as good sign that this post seems to be totally ineffectual at moving the market.

I moved my sells order to $2/BTC on MtGox hours ago, and neither the depth of market chart, nor the trade data show my order... There could be a MtGox bug where it is not displaying asks >= $2/BTC.
1713  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: To those with multi-5970 setups: which mobo are you using? on: March 15, 2011, 02:52:47 AM
OMG, this is devastating o_O. Three disadvantages:
1. When you will be mining like for few months/years, PCIE slots will loosen and get damaged (because the cards are not properly inserted into the slots, they're bent). You will have to buy new motherboard then.
2. The slots will loosen even faster, if you make the case stand vertically. You have to put this horizontally to work.
3. When you start mining, this setup will overheat with 99,9% probability. This is not for serious solutions.

No, it does not overheat. GPU temps are between 65 and 85C. Throttling doesn't happen until ~100C. Shortly after posting this picture I slightly changed my setup by putting the spacers near the end of the card where the fans are, for more efficient cooling, and slightly less pressure on the PCIe slots. This machine has been mining for 2+ months 24/7.

How to make about $10k with Bitcoin:

1. Pick a cool handle... something like "Baron"
2. Bruteforce mtgox account passwords, find 2 of them!
3. Withdraw the maximum amount of BTC per day
4. DON'T GET CAUGHT (some often forget this step)
5. Profit!

1715  Economy / Marketplace / Re: '403 forbidden' at Mt.Gox on: March 03, 2011, 06:10:31 AM
Yeah the new server is up. The DNS will just take awhile to update. If you are in a hurry you can try flushing your DNS or put 174.121.74.59 in your hosts file

You should reduce your DNS TTL from 24h to just a few minutes.
1716  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mini PCI-E and PCI Express x1 on: February 28, 2011, 08:15:18 AM
Heh, the knife business is going to be hard work. At least this makes my Bitcoin miner very cheap.

Most recently I used a dremel instead of a knife. Much easier.
(Cut it with the cutting disk perpendicular to the length of the PCIe slot, it takes 10sec.)
1717  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Looking for used hardware, or advice, for a 2 or 3 card miner, on: February 23, 2011, 11:00:26 AM
You can't put more than 2 double-slot GPUs in a box and still keep them cool without some kind of custom (expensive) cooling system.

Yes you can. This is what I run: http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=47
1718  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Dedicated Bitcoin Mining Rigs on: February 08, 2011, 01:56:09 AM
I don't see someone who is interested in a pre-built mining computer having the knowledge to run gui-less linux on one of these. I think the market for these exists with those who have little knowledge of how to build a computer, which mostly goes hand in hand with not knowing cli-linux. Smiley

<shrug> After years of building my own computers, I learned the value of pre-built computers with warranties and support.  Plus, my own time has a cost.

In my case, I find it more efficient to spend 20min finding the faulty component in a PC and RMA'ing to newegg than spending 1h+ on the phone with a Dell/HP/whatever Support Representative who insists on following his script before concluding there might be a problem with the PC.

1719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox account compromised on: February 02, 2011, 10:14:38 AM
(For those not in the know: davout's Bitcoin Central platform hashes passwords with SHA256($pass.$salt). Although safer than the way most people hash passwords, this method is not safe enough because it does not implement iterated hashing to slow down bruteforce attacks. In a scenario where an attacker gains access to BC's hashes via SQL injection for example, the attacker would be able to bruteforce passwords at a rate of 1+ billion per second with one HD 5970. Iterated hashing like Linux's standard MD5-crypt slows this attack by multiple orders of magnitude.)
If it was as simple as that I would've done it already, the hard part is not to replace the hash function, the hard part is update the passwords that are recorded in the database if you see what I mean Smiley

The traditional way to handle a change of hashing algo is to have a transitional phase where 2 algos are supported in parallel in the DB. Whenever a user logs in and you detect an old hash format in the DB, just update it (you can because you have the pass during authentication). I would be glad to submit a patch but I am unlikely to find the time to do it.

My bank snail mails lists of 300 one-use keys you need when logging in. A quicker but perhaps more expensive option is to send the keys in SMS.

Cool. What bank does this? If you don't mind sharing...
