502  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [115%] I want your hashing power! "Project #2" 115% PPS! on: February 01, 2012, 02:18:27 AM
What kind of hash rate are you looking for?
503  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: January 31, 2012, 05:18:52 PM
I thought I had it figured out. But P2pool hasn't worked in my case:

Steps I followed are:

1. Ran Bitcoin client with RPC interface enabled (created bitcoin.conf and put 'rpcuser', 'rpcpassword' and 'server' in there). Let it update the block chain.
2. Ran run_p2pool.exe
3. Ran cgminer.exe with -o http://127.0.0.1:9332 -u <rpcuser> -p <rpcpassword>

run_p2pool seems to get stuck and 'cgminer.exe' complains: "No servers were found that could be used to get works from.".

Can anyone help?

It sounds like p2pool isn't connecting to bitcoind. You have to connect it by by using the username and password you set up in bitcoin.conf. Run_p2pool.exe <rpcuser> <rpcpass> and then connect cgminer using any user pass - no the ones you set up in bitcoin.conf.
504  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT - Easy persistent USB key based linux for dedicated miners/mining farms on: January 31, 2012, 03:52:42 PM
All my rigs are 64bit. And also only 6 cards. So either way works for me.
505  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BAMT jumping between pools when 1st pool fails on: January 31, 2012, 02:38:19 AM
Code:
http://u:p@pool1.com:8332/
http://u:p@pool2.com:8332/,10,60
http://u:p@pool3.com:8332/,10,60
http://u:p@pool4.com:8332/,10,60

So with this your backup pools time out 3 times faster than your primary. 60 is a bit aggressive for 300 Mhash. It sounds like its timing out and failing forward instead of checking back to primary. Try just ,10 so you don't override the bamt.conf timeout.
506  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BAMT jumping between pools when 1st pool fails on: January 31, 2012, 12:52:44 AM
Get rid of the last / before comma and change to 120 or 90 instead of 60. Luck and pool connection can jump you over 60 seconds. What's the timeout set at in bamt.conf?
507  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BAMT jumping between pools when 1st pool fails on: January 31, 2012, 12:30:38 AM
What's your hashrate? Your also telling it to switch if it doesn't find a share in 60 seconds.  I think your syntax is wrong also try
Code:

sorry to ask this but this thread is so fricking long!

when will cgminer support 7xxx video cards?

It does, just not well. If you would like to help improve it look here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=61027.0
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bringing decentralization back to the Bitcoin network. on: January 30, 2012, 11:50:40 PM
The best way to bring decentralization to the network is just to mine for yourself. I don't know what I think about so much control of the network going to so few.

That's the idea behind p2pool, solo mining with pooled reward.  Unless you have a 100Ghash farm hiding in your garage to reduce the variance???

Variance... whatever. You get paid once every 2 months a lump sum or a little bit every day. Why does it matter except to satisfy the monkey brain.

If you do have a garage farm that can get a block ever other day, reducing variance is really pointless.
Money now is better than money later IMO. I can invest money now. In 2 months, who knows what investment opportunities will be gone or if I'll have even solved a block.  Variance matters.
There is variance then there is variance, a payout every other day has little to do with one every 2 month.

A problem with solo is that you waste 5 minute everyday to check if you've found a block and while you wait for a first block you wonder if it's working or not.

Don't forget about difficulty increases.  Variance evens out over the long term with constant difficulty.  What happens if you are solo mining with an expected reward every 2 months and hit an unlucky streak with a large difficulty increase streak??
510  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ 110-115% Bonus PPS Pool ] - Mining Opportunity on: January 30, 2012, 10:04:19 PM
The only thing that should matter in this thread is:

1. What do I offer ?
2. Are the users happy ?
3. Did users get paid ?

Thats my commitment, I dont want more people to offer my business model and take me out of the market, so I wont divulge any more information simple as that. Take it or leave it, love it or hate it, thats how the offer stands.

Good bye.

^This...(although I still think your shorting yourself).  I have new equipment coming in a couple weeks, if your miners are happy I may take some of that BTC from you.

They are hard/expensive to get in US also.  Exchange rate has been high and difficulty low for 2 months now, I need more GH/s.
512  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU bitforce overclock monitor fanspeed RPC in C linux/windows/osx 2.2.1 on: January 30, 2012, 08:20:28 PM
That's normal for p2pool. You get a lot of LP's. My cgminer rejected rate is less than 2% though. If yours is higher there may be an issue. Watch your dead and orphan rate also. They will indicate where any issues are.
513  Economy / Goods / Re: [wts] 2x Diamond 5970 new oem $410 shipped USA each or + shipping international on: January 30, 2012, 08:03:57 PM
No one interested in these yet?
514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bringing decentralization back to the Bitcoin network. on: January 30, 2012, 05:17:52 PM
I'm not personally interested in using p2pool but is it correct to say I would have to install a bitcoind on all my miners OR have to port forward my router for external miners and live with this new point of failure ?

I don't have bitcoind or p2pool running on any of my miners, all they do is mine. I have the nodes on a separate server where all the miners connect - much easier to set up. And I use a backup pool just as I would with any other pool. You can use a centralized pool or another p2pool node. There are several people who set up p2pool nodes that anyone can connect to as well, no need to run anything but the miner.
515  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: January 30, 2012, 05:02:57 PM
Totally true, but you really have to pick your battles. The way I see it, you can only solve one problem at a time. Is it going to be keeping some silly kids alive a few more days, or is it going to be helping to change the world's political system?

I'd say buy everyone a tank and the problem is solved.

That's the issue.  I don't think Bitcoin100 should be involved in political projects, too much disagreement. But I won't withdraw donations if that's where we choose to go. And I'm all in on the tank.
516  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: January 30, 2012, 04:40:05 PM
Public television run by volunteers isnt a service or a charity organisation? What do you call it then ? After all the hit pieces in the media about bitcoin you dont want to support a media startup that will disrupt their lying and propaganda ?

There are already several projects underway to help disrupt the propaganda and they are not on our list. I don't mean to be harsh but it sounds like your focusing on a group of protesters who's biggest need is electricity to charge their iPhones. There are millions of people in the world who lack basic needs, that is where I would like to see our bitcoins go. It's not just about Bitcoin. As I said before, start a separate donation thread and see what the interest is. I'll be happy to give a donation there.
517  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: January 30, 2012, 04:13:31 PM
I received several sent/received notifications today for address 1VayNert3x1KzbpzMGt2qdqrAThiRovi8 (deepbit?) on 2 different wallets which don't include that address.  Huh
518  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: some donate, some don't, collection for cgminer 7970 [47 confirmed 10 pledged] on: January 30, 2012, 04:54:19 AM
I can throw in some more but not until later in the week - getting Dwolla'd..wait...wait..wait some more.  Spent all my mining bitcoins on another rig.
519  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: January 30, 2012, 03:19:08 AM
I'm not sure I would call occupy anything a charity. They are not providing a good or service and CryptoxMedia is already heavily involved in the Bitcoin community. We will only get more Bitcoin community projects looking for donations if we do this. You should put up a donation thread like what was done for archive.org. I would donate to that seperatley.  It's a -1 for me.
