Next feature I'm really craving is QR codes. Any plans for them on the receiving addresses?

I was just going to ask the same question.  And am I understanding this correctly: the private key is stored encrypted on the servers and the encryption is handled by my browser? So if someone were to steal acquire the data they would not be able to spend my coins?

Anyone look through the wallets in the link Meni posted?  Archive.org is doing much better than most all of them - without the extra 100.  But I'm with Rassah on this, just tell me where to send my 1BTC and when to send it again.
743  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin100 & archive.org on: December 14, 2011, 04:02:39 PM
They do have a good chunk of BTC in a very short amount of time without the extra 100, but they also moved the donation link up.  It's interesting to look over the sites in the wiki that accept bitcoin donations, and their publicly available donation amounts.  Placement of the donation option does seem to have an impact on the amounts received.  Either way I think it would be good to point out in any Bitcoin100 comunications that placement of the button or address is important.  I'm really in the middle on archive.org.
744  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Coming Soon: 5 BTC Casascius Coin on: December 14, 2011, 02:10:25 PM
Lowest cost for me.  I like the expanding selection though.

FANTASTIC!!!  Thanks to the two recent 10 BTC donations we are now (exactly) 80% of the way to our first 100 BTC pool!

Don't forget the amount commited but not yet sent...I think we may be there already  Huh  Looking at it again, we may be well past 100 BTC.

Hey guys, I'm unsure of the payout system.  What's unconfirmed, confirmed and cashout amount?

My guess is, cashout amount is the amount you earned at this point, unconfirmed amount is waiting for the 120th block, meaning, what you will get in the next 24 hours, and confirmed amount is ....?

I looked into EMC's tech discussion board, and I wasn't able to find this.

Is there a way to check your historical (last 24 hours) btc amount earned?

Thanks,
J

Confirmed has 120 blocks and can be paid out with auto payout or manually with pay me buttons (they will turn red when you have confirmed balance).  Cashout will pay total of confirmed + unconfirmed - fee (and reset your score).  You can check block stats to see your historical earnings/block.

@Inaba
Your going to have a lot more work with all the new users, hope the donations went up so this pool doesn't join the others.  Great pool, thanks for maintaing it.

Wow, I hope someone there is checking the balance.  Thats a good bit of bitcoins in a short amount of time.  Nice to see the community supporting this.
748  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: December 13, 2011, 02:19:17 AM
I don't think the Bitcoin100 should be a free hand-out.  The two natural criteria seem to be:

1) The cause asking for funds is generally deemed worthy (most charities).
2) They add Bitcoin100 as an alternative donation method.

In this case, archive.org narrowly miss satisfying condition (2) due to the layout of their donations page.

I would agree, but I think people's idea of deemed worthy is drastically different and I hope it does not become too much of an issue here.  The way I look at it is my pledge of 1BTC is a minimum donation, more to Bitcoin than the charities themselves, as there are a few charities mentioned that I would not donate to outside of Bitcoin100.  The charities that I like more will get more from me separately. Like archive.org, which I sent 1 to already and will send more if/when they add a button directly to their donation page.

good work.
750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Internet Archive (Home of the Wayback Machine) Accepting Bitcoin Donations! on: December 12, 2011, 07:06:50 PM
Well I didn't fill it, but I sent 1 to their wallet.
751  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: December 12, 2011, 06:29:51 PM
I'd be happy to have my 1BTC going to them, though I'd be inclined to send a bit more if they put a button on their donation page instead of burying the address in the FAQ.
752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "The world is facing a major, major crisis." - Is Bitcoin ready? on: December 12, 2011, 05:45:39 PM
Yes.  Are people ready to be accountable for their own money? No. Too much personal responsibility.

Just wanted to follow this.  Great client, thanks for all the work.
754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I took a taxi today piad with VISA! on: December 12, 2011, 03:52:10 PM
A taxi driver could just have a QR code with an address laminated.  The passenger could send the minimum price at the beginning of the trip.  By the end, the driver can verify it on block explorer, and any extra time due to traffic can be paid for with bitcoin or settled in USD.  That's actually a good fit for bitcoin since the majority of the cost is known early on.

Is the wait really an issue for this small of a transaction?  It takes seconds to 'see' the transaction on any client or e-wallet.  Just seems like an added inconvenience to the merchant.  It would be great to see the thread 'I took a taxi today paid with bitcoins' though.  Nice work introducing it.

In other news, people who bought shares during Google's IPO don't deserve to profit from it, because they didn't participate in making Google's products.

If that was not a big enough hint: There are more ways to participate in an economy than to provide labor. People who buy bitcoins increase the total worth of all bitcoins, thus the incentive of merchants to accept Bitcoin, thus help grow the Bitcoin economy. If this growth results in the success of Bitcoin and a corresponding price appreciation, those who took a risk by investing in bitcoins have every right to profit from it.

Ding ding ding!  +1

I'd call that match, set, and game. And I'm just going to leave this here for the early adopter pyramid ponzi scheme unfair crowd to read.  One of many examples of early adopter successes not being called a ponzi pyramid unfair scam.

Are we at 100 yet (coins pledged, not members)?  If so, anyone think it may be beneficial to work a deal with Bit-Pay to put something on their charity page like "Add a bitcoin donation button today and receive a 100 bitcoin donation from the Bitcoin100"?  Their site looks very good, and they do provide all the services needed.  It would be a good site to direct potential charities in any communications sent.
757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Introducing LoveBitcoins.org – Driving 1 MILLION Bitcoin Users in 2012 on: December 10, 2011, 05:57:52 PM

the flaw in your logic is that you are already here.
sell to potential customers, not to yourself.

That is what I do.  It's not flawed logic, it's targeted marketing.  When the 60 yr old women in front of me at the grocery store pulls out her checkbook, my first thought isn't discussing Bitcoin with her.  However, when the the guy in front of me at Starbucks pulls out his phone to be scanned by the cashier for payment, that's exactly what I think of.  It's an easier close because its a smaller learning curve.  When google wallet, Dwolla, or Paypal mobile come up in conversations I introduce bitcoins.  I don't go into politics, speculation, or investing just the competitive  advantages bitcoins can offer over the current system - to people who already know and use mobile payment systems it's an easy sell.  And I would be wiling to bet I can drive more people to Bitcoin by targeting these users than any other demographic.  And that is the goal for me, Bitcoin users, not speculators or investors, because that is what I am and that is what I know.
758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Introducing LoveBitcoins.org – Driving 1 MILLION Bitcoin Users in 2012 on: December 10, 2011, 04:18:36 AM
fornit I think you just described the complete opposite of me and the people I introduce to Bitcoin.  I shop, download, and spend much more time on my phone than on my computer - and people like me are the ones I send to the site.  Having a resource like LoveBitcoins.org focused on mobile payment solutions is perfect.  People stuck in a chair staring at a monitor can be directed to bitcoin.org.  I would like to see the Apple and Android rows filled with options on that chart.

BTW where is Blackberry in all this?  If their apps aren't open to developers, don't the ewallets still work?  Can something be added for them?

EDIT: I don't actually send people there....

Because your leather wallet is a portable item you carry everywhere in your pocket.  Your digital wallet should offer the same convenience.

i had hoped for an argument, not a bad analogy  Undecided
imho focusing on mobile devices and especially local sales with QR-codes is pretty much a guarantee for failure. you need something like a dozen globally available, popular shops or services for bitcoin to really catch on or alternatively thousands or maybe even millions of local businesses. plus PCs and laptops are still extremly popular and will remain so, especially among the more tech-savvy crowd. you cant play games, program or do any other serious computer-related work on a phone. for the short and medium term, this will be your audience. i hope you dont try step 5 before step 3 and 4.

besides that, mobile phones are currently a security nightmare. bitcoin is a security nightmare by design. i think both have to improve before this explosive combination can really work.
I respectfully, and completely, disagree.  Mobile phones, and getting a smoothly working client running on them, should be a huge priority.  Smartphones are being carried around more and more, and not having a Bitcoin client available for them to use is cutting off a large crowd of people from using it.

I would have to respectfully disagree as well.  NFC payment systems like google wallet are not going away, why should Bitcoin not jump in.  And the more I see stories like this http://arstechnica.com/business/news/2011/12/hackers-hit-supermarket-self-checkout-lanes-steal-money-from-shoppers.ars the more I wish I could just pay with bitcoins at the store with my phone and never reveal account or identity information.  The current system is a security nightmare, Bitcoin offers some advantages and should promote that fact.

Agreed.

Q: Does this work on an iPhone or Android or other smartphone?

A: Yes!  it’s completely tested with mobile   do this.. bookmark the https://bank.flexcoin.com as a homepage icon…  you’ll see the flexcoin icon there for iPhones!

It's not a native client, but the webpage is cleaner than Instawallet (though I do like not having to login with Instawallet).  You have the option of sending all or some of your BTC to cold storage, the rest is available for transactions like any other e-wallet.
