861  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Wiki Question on: August 18, 2011, 03:35:05 AM
If I follow the linuxcoin wiki procedures to

1. SSH X11forwarding, then
2. SettingupVNCremotely

will that allow me to reboot and manually start mining with a headless miner rig on my local network?

Ah, never mind. I see gopher has posted a most excellent wiki for creating a headless miner.

Just a note from my experience with headless remote linuxcoin mining...don't use VNC.  I would much rather use a GUI than command line, but it just isn't efficient on a remote mining rig.  You will be losing time and hashing.  Other than accepting the license agreement, everything you need to do can be done through ssh with command line.  Efficient remote administration is one of the big advantages of linux.

Is there a link to info about the difference between the default setting and the "persistant" setting? I heard that if I don't use persistant, that data can be destroyed including the wallet file? What are the differences between these modes?

The default or "live" boot will NOT save any data.  It's like booting a live cd of linux. The "persistant" boot will save data just like a hard drive.

Awsome, I should be using mgpumon anyway with multiple rigs.  What catalyst version is BAMT using?

EDIT: With gpumon if I use do_direct_status: 1.2.3.4 should this broadcast to my local network from remote rigs? If so what ports will need to be forwarded?
864  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT - Easy persistent USB key based linux for dedicated miners/mining farms on: August 14, 2011, 10:27:25 PM
Thanks, phatk2 +3 on my 6950's.  Would it be a lot of work to add clocks to gpumon?

You will need to set DISPLAY=:0 for --odsc I think.  Are you using the newest version of atitweak?  How about atitweak -s? I'm not that great with linux - just trying what I know from experience from my remote rigs.  But I'm out of ideas.  Maybe a PM and a couple coins to the developer??

Do your aticonfig commands give errors?

aticonfig --lsa or aticonfig --odgc --adaper=all

I've see the ADL error before when adding cards.  Try initial config then reboot
aticonfig -f --initial --adapter=all
867  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: MB for 4+ 6950's? on: August 12, 2011, 11:48:46 PM
I have 2 of those MSI motherboards with a mixture of 3x6970s and 7x5830s between the 2 MBs, so 5 cards on each MB.  Like many, I've had really good luck with linuxcoin/persistence on a USB thumb drive.

Which version? I think I'm running .2b on one with no luck.
868  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: MB for 4+ 6950's? on: August 12, 2011, 08:47:03 PM
mine works fine for windows, so perhaps you want to temporarily switch to windows to see if you have the same problem?

For remote headless rigs I found BAMT to be perfect - other than the current issue.  It would take more time to setup and tweak a new os, not to mention buying and installing a drive.  I would rather just buy a new MB that I know works - this forum is full of problems with extenders and GD70's and Windows always seems to be the solution.
869  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: MB for 4+ 6950's? on: August 12, 2011, 08:07:08 PM
I think it's the combination of the board, cards, and os.  Anytime I put 4 cards on extenders X runs 100% CPU or the 4th card locks up as soon as I start mining at any clock, or they just are not detected.  I've tried different slots, different brand ribbons, with molex, without, changing pci latency - same results every time.  I have 2 more cards on the way and no more room available.  Are there different drivers for 4 cards vs 3?

Did BAMT work right out the box for you?  What MB's are you using and would you mind sharing the BIOS versions?  Maybe this could all go away with a BIOS downgrade.

Sorry, I've switched MB's recently...those are being shipped to my brothers. I'll try to get specs for you once they get there.

I've had way too much down time trying to get anything more than 3 cards to work on 890FXA-GD70 motherboard, I'm just going to buy a new MB.  Does anyone have a working rig with 4+ 6950's with x16 extenders running linux? If so what motherboard are you using?

When I try atitweak over SSH I get this:

Code:
# atitweak -l
No protocol specified
Couldn't initialize ADL interface.

Running atitweak on the computer itself works. What can I do to control the cards from outside?

Try:
Code:
DISPLAY=:0 atitweak -l

I have 2 Gagabyte boards (which I'm planning on setting on fire this weekend) that boot BAMT and Linuxcoin.  I used dd command in linux. If you have a linux box run:

Code:
dd if=<BAMT>.img of=/dev/sd[x]

Or I'm sure you can use qemu to convert to ISO, not sure of the syntax though.
874  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Have 4+ cards running on one of my rigs...took me months on: August 12, 2011, 04:32:56 AM
Is it something with the GD70 motherboard, or the 6900 series cards??? I'm in the same situation.  Been trying for weeks to get 4+ cards running under linux with no luck, just get X running 100% CPU.  Maybe I'll give Windows a try.

Settings configurable per rig like SMTP server, RPC L&P, fan speed %, over heat temp, OC core Mhz, OC memory Mhz

What are you using for OC's and fan speed?  Is it not possible to set per GPU? And does anyone know how Diablo compares to phoenix?

Right now the userland programs are setup to be able to OC all GPU's with 1 speed or each GPU at a separate speed but the WWW GUI is setup for 1 speed for all. Since there isn't much interest in the managed rigs I don't know if I want to spend the time adding that feature.

The userland programs on the linux image are also setup for either Diablo to manage all the GPU's or 1 phoenix miner for each. However the WWW GUI just uses Diablo. I'm still the only user with managed rigs so it's probably going to stay that way right now. Being a pool op of a 0% fee pool and competing with BTCGuild and deepbit is a thankless job.

Well I hope it improves, it's a great idea.  I prefer to stick with PPLNS pools and I've been using Linuxcoin and BAMT but the iPhone and web management would make things much easier.  I'll be happy to throw a couple Ghash your way at 3.5% to test it out as soon as I sort out a small lightning issue - didn't think to run cat5 through surge protector.

878  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT - Easy persistent USB key based linux for dedicated miners/mining farms on: August 08, 2011, 03:33:07 AM
how to i update/add fixes?

From the first post, it says only fix#11 and earlier is preinstalled. Does that mean i need to update it after download?

As root run:
Code:
/opt/bamt/fixer

Then send donation to lodcrappo for making it that easy.

Been having problems with one of my rigs. Getting this error:

Code:
root@miner:/opt/miners/phoenix# ./wrapper.pl 1
Phoenix wrapper for GPU 1

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Using: mineco.in:3000/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Socket listening...
[05/08/2011 00:48:26] FATAL kernel error: Failed to apply BFI_INT patch to kernel! Is BFI_INT supported on this hardware?

The other cards will start fine.  Did this card just go bad??

Is it a different type of card from the rest?

Have you tried it without the BFI_INT?

Has this card worked at all with BAMT?

Same cards
OMhs w/o BFI_INT
Worked fine until I added another card (which I removed)
