Of note....in Houston, TX, real estate taxes are 'killing" me every darned year.
They are roughly 2% per year per current year RE value...you can have 3X of the house (in $) in Cali, 4X in Colorado for the same tax.
As valuation rises, that 2% becomes more and more. The only limit of increase is 10% increase max for the year, but if, say, property value increased 20% in a year, this means that you would get hit with 10% tax increase two years in a row, unless value drops in year 2.

But no income tax.

You have to pay somehow for the quality electric infrastructure...

Not sure if this is serious or sarcastic considering how much shit my state gets for the icepocolypse a couple years ago.  But TX is bringing big time mining companies into the state and they are balancing the grid.

The lack of a state tax IS quite nice.  But yes, the property taxes are the other end of it all...

Yes I was being sarcastic about the cold event, I don't pretend to know what has been going on since then. And Texas is supposed to be "low tax".

As a Texan, I will say this.  Ultimately it is pick your poison.  But at least the policies in TX favor your actions rather than just your income.  If I make a $2mm/yr salary and live in a house I bought in 1991 for 72k then I pay less taxes than if they take a percentage of my earnings.  It's really all about time preference.  TX is not perfect.  But it is WAY better than many of the alternatives.

In my opinion, the entire US is in a state of "fucked".  But TX and FL have been shining lights of the way we COULD do things.

I lived in

Hawaii
California
New York
Florida
New Jersey
New Hampshire
Connecticut
Virginia
Maryland

Not impressed with any of them.

I recommend never stopping for more than a night or two in Vermont and only if absolutely necessary.

If I were free and young with a few dollars in my pocket I would move to Mauritius.

I spent a few weeks there and like it a lot

Le Tampon in Réunion Island sounds quite good to me. Maybe you prefer Flic en Flac in Mauritius.

What's wrong with Vermont, (apart from this)?

To hell with the turkey; it'll keep.

Carolina is back!  I'm heading over to my local MickeyDs to see if we can't get this train back on track.
If one Carolina doesn't do it, I'll have a second... the things I wont do for you guys!

Get them fast, before they shoot up in price.

Minimum wage is way over $7.25

How many big macs is it?

This says how many big macs you get depends on which state you work in.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_wage_in_the_United_States

Quote
The federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour applies to states with no set minimum wage, and to most workers in states with lower minimum wages

Ironically despite the things you hear about the Arab World, Dubai is the only place where I've ever seen condoms dished out in hotel rooms like they are sweets and they blatantly invited hookers to the bar for guests.

One gets what they can get and if not you miss out and that's that.

What brand of condoms do they give away? Any of these?

Taking down FTX hurt but now that we know how dodgy it was, you can't really argue it's a bad thing.

...

It taught Jennifer Aniston a lot.

When we were bouncing around at $18K I was telling myself that I think the next leg down will be the one to buy.  As we dip into the 15's I can't help but think this is the dip people have been waiting for.  There's still a ton of uncertainty and even more bad news on the horizon, but I think we've gone low enough in the short term (once this Genesis stuff is cleared up).  I think we're likely to start seeing a runup before the halving soon, with a small crash as we go into the halving and people cash out profits, followed by the start of the next bull run.  That's how it's gone in the past anyway.

yeah we are good to go here maybe we never drop to 14.9k or less.

This price is a special black Friday deal.

.... the epic bull run that will come in 2024 & 2025.

Now the saying is 24/25 ??..  Cry Cry
God gives us health and a long life to live that..

(not in my mood these days/months.. some numbers are hard to digest)

Always has been.
2024 halvening & then a big, powerful bull run in 2025. Just like previous cycles!

2023 will suck!

Wow, congrats to the ex-smokers here! I smoked hard for 30 years, vaped for 10, no nothing now for the last 3 years.
I figured up how much I was spending on cigarettes, and once I quit, that amount became my DCA.  Even if BTC goes to zero, I have done a better thing for myself.

If you smoke cigs, try to quit. I felt a lot better, and I didn't think I felt bad.
Missed this.

I smoked from 1970 to 1996

I quit on feb 29th. 1996

Used the cigarette money to pay the 30 year mortgage off in under 15 years.

I am proud and very happy for you.

Was it hard to give up?

The GBTC situation is starting to get interesting. There are rumors going around that they lost their coins after they tweeted that they couldn’t publish proof of holdings because of security issues… If GBTC lost their coins in the Genesis blowup things could get real interesting. That would lead to so many different regulatory and market scenarios that I’m anxious to see how it plays out. One thing I believe will be certain, in several months we’ll all be wishing for the kind of price stability we’re seeing now.

How the fuck could they lose 600,000+ coins.

If true brace for a spectacular melt down.

On the other hand, if they haven't lost them FTX might have shown us Bitcoin's bottom.

BIG IF…

If GBTC doesn’t have enough coins, this will be the mother of all short squeezes.

between them and FTX inflating the supply it would be ginormous.

...

If that happens I'll be able to afford to upgrade my bike.
