621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Elite coin another bittrex scam? on: July 29, 2014, 02:40:06 PM
so what better exchange is there ? none ? theyre all crap eh!

i had thought bittrex was the best of the bunch, but 2 days ago, i bought a sell order, and bittrexs trade history showed almost exactly half of it as a buy order and the other half as a sell order... misreporting the trade that had happened, to what i end i dont know, nor care anymore

AllCrypt is some jerk off kids fee gathering exercise, he abuses the traders and dont care about what his customers want

Mintpal is full of bots screwing prices left right n centre

bter is slow as a wet week

poloniex seems ok, just doesnt have the volume bittrex does
(and i havent seen them do dodgy yet)

any1 can suggest a better place to trade ?

And don't forget Crypsty, I used to hate that damn place but they have gone total legit. Full licenses from the G-Men, the works. You can even trade Fiat-BTC there now. The volume is shit, so the bots will really annoy you, but if you move your trading out of ScamTrix to other exchanges obviously the volume picks up. And I am guessing they will not be risking their licenses or their own asses by scamming 5 days a week like ScamTrix.

Cryptsy is now by far the best exchange! Bittrex is miles behind and will never come close!

I like Cryptsy, but I stayed away in protest for five months after they lost my coins.
The lack of professionalism and courtesy shown towards me by Cryptsy's staff on this board recently has also turned me off the exchange.

What about Anonymity ?
What if I want to make a new coin but don't want to link it to me ? It is an open source project , so I don't see why I need to be its flagbearer.

Just like in the Lending or Gambling section (ahem , Ponzi section) , you need to think before you blindly invest in something.
Stopping people from anonymously posting new coins just because you are butthurt from a bad investment is a bad idea.

What about anonymity?
Whose stopping anyone from remaining anonymous?
I suggest you spend time reading through the thread first before commenting rather than creating straw man arguments.
623  Other / Meta / Re: Petition to introduce minimum activity count for ANN thread starters on: July 28, 2014, 11:06:17 PM
There is no difference between being able to create a thread, and being able to create and ANN thread. So what you are asking, is for people to not be able to create threads until a certain activity count, which wont happen.
According to some, Bitcointalk.org had a similar restriction on the Alt section previously. Are you saying that is not true?
Besides, I've been on other boards where certain sections are off-limits to members below specific qualifying thresholds.

No, there has never been any restriction on the Alt coin section, people seem to forget that the Alt Coin section isn't one that Bitcointalk especially cares about, its more or less an off topic board so people that wish to talk about alt coins don't post in with Bitcoin discussion. What they were talking about, is that people were confined to the newbie board until they had a few spam posts, and left their account logged on for 4 hours, which was done away with. Now there are just time restrictions on when people can post, rather than cutting them off entirely.

well what about re-instating the old rule but instead of only being able to talk in the Newby section
we could have new guys only able to post in the normal section (and not the ANN section)

see what i mean when comparing the new idea with the old rule that was previously abandoned ? (after i signed up)

i am talking about the restriction that was enforced on me and others when i signed up..
and that went as follows..
simply put, i was not allowed to post in the Main ANN section until my post count got to 16 comments or something like that.
and i think what the majority is saying is lets do that but for just the ANN section..
as in you can't create a topic in the ann section unless you have a certain amount of comments already.
this HAS to be possible because it was ALREADY like this when is signed up LOL

I'm a bit confused by what you mean Main ANN section? We are talking about people making coin ANN threads in the Alt Coin section correct? There isn't anything different about creating a normal thread and an ANN thread, people just put [ANN] in the title. I believe you are talking about Newbie restrictions, back when no one was allowed to post outside of the newbie board, we most likely aren't going back to how that was before. Theymos talked about removing the newbie section for quite a while before moving us over to an Activity system.

Frankly, the forums views the alt coin section similarly to the off topic section. If people want to post that they are stuck in Nigeria and need $1,000 to get home with their $100 Million inheritance, at a certain point its up to people to not be dumb. If people want to invest in poorly made coins that are dead in a week, how is that any different from investing in a startup company on the stock market that fails after launch. Risk vs. Reward, there can be big money to be made in new coins, so people keep throwing money in. Some coins flop, and people still throw money in, so why wouldn't people make new worthless coins to make a buck?

Enabling. Enabler. Victim blaming. Reverse special treatment.

Bitcointalk's refusal to even consider reigning in this behavior, enables scam artists to execute con after con after con here. This makes Bitcointalk an enabler. Victim blaming enables and encourages these cons, when there is absolutely no reason why cons should be tolerated.

Ideologically speaking (since Theymos appears to manage this board in libertarian vein), free enterprise should be allowed to flourish, but special dispensation should never be made to enable dishonest people to defraud a large majority. The ability to post using alt accounts is a special dispensation, as it allows people to hide their identity. This is NOT free market capitalism as one party holds an institutionalized advantage. Regardless of whether Theymos is a paleo, neo or Rothbardian libertarian, regardless of how everyone despises the alt coin section, this is an example of a central authority intentionally handicapping a segment of the population. There is a great imbalance there that requires adjustment.

A lot of people care about alt coins. Even those who stuck their noses up at alt coins should at least utter a quiet word of thanks to alts. Alt coins have brought a lot of positives to Bitcoin and the world of crypto in general.
That's a very interesting perspective on altcoins... can you name these positives please?

Sure. Off the top of my head,

• Altcoins create much needed competition for Bitcoin. Lack of competition leads to monopolies, signals development decay and disincentivize innovations.

• Increased awareness of cryptocurrencies with the general public.

• Increased flow of fiat into cryptocurrencies/ propping up and increasing the trade volume of Bitcoin. Altcoin speculators and investors enter/exit the market using BTC, which is the easiest conversion medium.

• Altcoins provide the testing ground for new/experimental ideas - PoS, Zerocoin, etc.

Further adventures of another new dev.

Why did you feel the need to hide the 4.5% premine then?

 No one was hiding it. Missed the line during startup. It happens to everyone.
626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] XCloudcoin File hosting | New Features | Presale on Bittrex | PoS on: July 28, 2014, 09:42:26 PM
Nevermind issues with blockchain size, bandwidth requirements or TOR network limitations, the thing is, how the heck can you remain anonymous when there are two known, identifiable points, i.e., the caller and the receiver?

It is done by using an encrypted packet communication between the caller and a central server, which then sends another encrypted packet to the intended receiver.  A snoop would only be able to discern the sender and the server, but could not reliably connect the sender to the intended receiver if there was sufficient other traffic from that server.  Military grade uses fake messages and dead end addresses to lose messages in the fog.  It is also very very slow.

Would it be safe to conclude then that you are the dev for this coin?

If so, are you saying that xcloudcoin wallet would in fact be dependent on a central server, and it is not a decentralized currency after all, similar to, say, POScoin?

oh nice to see others get in the conversation, hes not the dev for this coin!
at this moment we are still working out details for the anon mixer, and testing a few scenarios, a white paper will be release once we begin beta testing the mixer.

going back to your original post, we are not here to get fame, we want to do our best to deliver something good, and right now we have something to show for.

like i stated before everyone is free to use our test account or send us an inbox and i would be more then happy to give then an invite.

our two main twitter profiles

https://twitter.com/xcloudcoin
https://twitter.com/Rdanetti

When will the whitepaper be out? I hope not some future date long after the IPO period is done.
You are making some bold claims here, so I think it is only fair that you back those claims up.
As linked in my original post, many other devs have made similarly bold claims, and they have long disappeared with their loot.
Anyway, I don't really see the point in testing your web software now, as there is really nothing new there.
The key is your wallet, the VOIP and and anon integration.

I am not the dev for any coin.  I answered your question becuz I have "familiarity" with the process.  Dont ask how, If I told you I would have to kill you.
Your spirited defense gave the impression that you have an interest in xcloudcoin.
Unfortunately, your 'familiarity' does not answer the question at all.

that is brutal rugrats wow lol

I know, right?

Now we have another brand new account trying to raise 500BTC to fund his new coin, the Xcloudcoin.

So Satoshi couldn't have posted about Bitcoin? Grin

Nobody cares about alt. crypto, you should appreciate Bitcointalk even hosts that section. I'd like to see the whole section locked.
You know, if Satoshi's first posts in the old sourceforge forum or Bitcointalk had been about IPOs, Bitcoin would be a stillborn.
Instead, he/she/it/they spent years of his/her/its/their life developing Bitcoin.

On Current Development

Wallet & Cloud
Anonymous mixer
Decentralized P2P trade
Cloud Mining
Online wallet
Anonymous email
XCloudVoip

Every single coin claiming VOIP integration + anonymity has thus far turned out to be scams. Off the top of my head, we've had Kakacoin, Korecoin, Smoke, Veilcoin, etc.

Nevermind issues with blockchain size, bandwidth requirements or TOR network limitations, the thing is, how the heck can you remain anonymous when there are two known, identifiable points, i.e., the caller and the receiver?

Someone capable of resolving these issues would gain instant fame within the crypto community. He would be a star of the cryptocurrency world. It would make sense for that person to not hide behind a new alt account. Right? Unless this is also a scam?
630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★★SUMcoin[X11]★★★POW/POS ★★★only 55.000 coins★★★1000% POS★★★ on: July 27, 2014, 01:36:40 AM
I was silent during startup, but now it will lift a little "secret" plans coins, private messages come many ideas from the community as to promote coins and games offer, and goods for shops and much more. BUT!!! such a "trifle" will not be here, coin first is a good investment annual income and selected as a speculative tool designed for several years. Who has time to invest in it now, he will receive in the future a good income because of coins you know just 55 000 . As for premine - Yes, he was on "unfounded" cries one half of a page of the forum that this fraudulent coin I miss "deaf ears" , because only I know what you spend remain in the development of coins (already spent about 830 coins). Coins spent on accommodation on many Internet forums, will be added function of anonymity transaction - TOR and even some functions, but this is still too early to say Yes and to realize all the plans coins prematurely for her own good. Harvest, while there is the opportunity to get coins. The rest premine will also be spent in its promotion. P.S. I apologize for writing in English - it's not my native language.

Why did you feel the need to hide the 4.5% premine then?

 No one was hiding it. Missed the line during startup. It happens to everyone.

If you say so.
But the premine was discovered by appooler less than two hours after coin launch, but you just ignored it.
After being repeatedly asked about the premine for two pages, you eventually responded 16 hours later.
To some, including me, that doesn't feel right - and doesn't feel like a missed line.

Fwiw, you can immediately stop the fears of dumping by placing the coins with an escrow.
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Elite coin another bittrex scam? on: July 27, 2014, 01:10:00 AM
quit supporting new coins on bittrex until they review the code.

Fairly sure that is going to happen.  Watch the volume on bittrex over the next few days.  It was 1854 btc for 24 hours at the time of the scam. I made a note of it.  Lets see what it is tomorrow.

Well it is 24 hours ish since the scam.  24 hour volume = 1016 btc.  That is a noticeable drop.  Lets see what it is in 24 more hours.

I don't mean to break up the seemingly interesting conversation you're having with yourself there, but the volume you quoted is for the entire exchange. I think Elite barely cracked 54BTC a couple of days ago.

633  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: NEW! Bitcoin-ScratchTicket.com | FREE BTC New User Promo on: July 27, 2014, 12:55:48 AM
Registered at the site several hours ago. My strongest impression thus far is the location of the deposit button. I spent almost a minute searching for it, including going through the FAQs. I think placing it closer to the account tab is more user-friendly. In fact, I think it would be more functional and natural to place the entire account/message/bets tabs on top of the page.

Enrolled @ #159  Cool

You are using the wrong signature, you are not yet a "Full Member", but only a "Member" thus you need the one line sig.

Thanks.  Smiley Fixed.

I wonder why they chose to dump the premine now though. They really didnt make that much btc maybe a couple at the most?
The 'dev' has been trying to pump up the price throughout the day with several 'coming soon' features, notably, a retail partner.
But the price continue to plummet, and he finally decided to exit before news of the hidden premine broke.

well said that last sentence is crucial !
give us something to research !
forcing guys to use one well known account *should i think increase accountability..

A few hours ago, Bittrex suspended trading for ELITE, a new alt coin with a 20k supply cap released by a brand new dev account.

Reason?

"balance" : 22342.69416214,
    "newmint" : 0.00000000,
    "stake" : 0.00000000,
    "blocks" : 4427,
    "timeoffset" : -7,
    "moneysupply" : 94868.97591348,

That's an effective premine rate of 2,100%.

Praise the dev for his honesty in 4.5% premine and lack of knowledge on how to cross compile a windows wallet on linux.

mine away, put in 300G of hash, get listed on exchanges, profit!!!

639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Elite coin another bittrex scam? on: July 26, 2014, 02:27:07 AM
Guys it is unfair to blame Bittrex or any other exchange that adds a coin. The answer is sometimes right in front of you by applying good common sense and looking at the risk indicators. By looking at a few things you can make a call on the residual risk of a coin based on risk factors and then see how that fits into your risk appetite. You can then either stay away or risk it all and the alt-coin exchanges currently just provide a vehicle to cater for the whole of the spectrum of risk appetite.

In the absence of regulation in alt coins (self or otherwise) you can do certain basic things to protect yourself: Elite was high risk based on such an assessment, refer here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=702757.msg7974656#msg7974656

You can't blame bittrex. If they don't add the coins - mintpal/polo or some other exchange would anyway.

If you are unsure of a coin - get its source code and check it.

In this instance - it seems no one did:

Code:
>>  pindexBest->nHeight+1!=1

Was in the codebase plain to see.

The lightning listing is an issue here. Coins are listed within a day of release, sometimes sooner.
The more competent members of the community simply do not have the time (nevermind the incentive) to check the codes.
Bittrex, who many traders assume would at least take a cursory look at the codes, does not consider this part of its responsibility.
