The wiki version includes the no so-nice hash hack that is a major security issue for miners
What are you talking about here?
Pretty sure he's talking about the mining.extranonce.subscribe extension.
I meant in terms of security issue. mining.extranonce.subscribe is not in itself one, at least in theory.

is there any estime when the new protocol from bitcoin 11.1 will be supported?
A long, long time ago.

Why do we send mining.set_difficulty in this case? Only to show the client we support this method?
Right.

And I can't think of any use case of the mining.set_difficulty subscription id. What was the original idea behind it?
Basically every subscription would get an id so you could unsubscribe from them.

In this case the default difficulty is 1 until the server sets a higher one, right?
Right. And the changes only take effect for notifys after it.

In the end wouldn't it make much more sense to set the difficulty per worker if we already support multiple workers per connection?
Yes, the stratum mining protocol is quite poorly designed.
165  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Stratum protocol discussion on: December 16, 2015, 11:31:46 AM
I have a question about the mining.set_difficult method.

In the example here https://mining.bitcoin.cz/help/#!/manual/stratum-protocol

the first time the parameter here is a string (I would say it's the target), but the second time its a number.
Is it supposed to be a string only if it's a result to mining.subscribe or should the client handle both?
The first one is only in mining.subscribe, and is a subscription id - just ignore it.
Target is not supported by anything for mining.set_difficulty, as far as I know.

Another question is about the result to mining.subscribe. Can the result have an arbitrary number of [method, params] pairs or am I missing it completely?
Yes, an arbitrary number is possible.

Have you read https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Stratum_mining_protocol ?

I can't login to get my 2904 BTC I left on BTCGuild!

... just kidding. Smiley

Been going back in and out of trying to figure this out for about 2 days now..

--stratum-port just flat out doesnt work for me.

I can start bfgminer with the setting and port, but i just get the SSM: no 2d upstream error continuously scrolling.  I can telnet to the stratum port and submit commands which do show up in the miners monitor screen, but the Antminers dont see it as a stratum pool that is alive.

I can probably avoid having to do this all together if I could get BFGminer working on the OpenWRT of the Antminer S1
That error means your pools can't be proxied. Try using another pool.

Cant be proxied?  I'm trying this in a solo mining setup at a local wallet.  i CAN get BFGminer to do an http-port proxy but not stratum to the local wallet.  When using the http-port, my Antminer S1 wont connect at all.
You're talking to the local wallet with GBT? It is Bitcoin Core or a compatible derivative (ie, not an altcoin)? What exact software/version?
http-port is getwork, which is significantly different from stratum.

Hello,

is a support for the Technobit "DICE" planned?

http://technobit.eu/index.php?id_product=93&controller=product

regards
At this time, they have not contacted me at all about this.
Customers (or prospective ones) should inquire if they will provide a sample to work with.

For me - working.

Weird - wont work for me, tried multiple different browsers. Can anyone check for me that this is a btc mining pool and that it exists?
Website works for me, but the Bitcoin stratum ports are all closed.
Altcoin ports work, so I doubt it's anything on my end.

Thanks Luke-Jr.

wargo - can you confirm that this is a working bitcoin mining pool?
Problem with ports fixed. What error during loading? Try to enter without subdomain and then click red "Kopalnia" button. Or add port 81.

Ok, can confirm the Bitcoin ports are actually mining Bitcoin.
However, note that as of writing this, it was 3 blocks behind for over a full minute, so mining stale blocks or a forked blockchain. :/

I tried solo-mining by running BFGMiner on the Beaglebone Black of a KNC Jupiter once, and the GBT protocol ate all the processor and wanted a lot more.

I don't know what embedded h/w the Antminers use, but it probably doesn't have the horsepower to run GBT.

Must have been a long time ago? GBT should perform as well as stratum now.

Hi Luke, do you know if BFGMiner 5.2.0 is the latest version that get installed in ubuntu using apt -get ? Ive been searching through the github readmes and also google and can't find any info on getting 5.4.1 on ubuntu. Im using Ubuntu 15.10.

I want to see if 5.4.1 fixes the issues im having with my BFL Monarch.
5.2.0 is the latest Debian has packages (and Ubuntu just leeches off them).
README has instructions for building from source code.

5.4.0 has a bug with the U1/U2, which is fixed in 5.4.1 (currently rolling the release now).

178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To Fee or Not to Fee: A Fresh Look at Bitcoin's Block Size on: November 18, 2015, 12:10:41 AM
Just a question, what is a BIP?
A BIP is a formal Bitcoin Improvement Proposal.

Would it be bad if we had a 2mb block? How long would it take to mine?
Right now, it would be impossible, since Bitcoin is defined with a 1 MB limit.
In theory, it wouldn't be any harder to mine, but it would be harmful to the non-miner network.
179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To Fee or Not to Fee: A Fresh Look at Bitcoin's Block Size on: November 17, 2015, 11:20:45 PM
Where was the discussion of this on the development mailing list, or the number assigned?
(If it had been, I'm sure many competent people would have pointed out how broken it is.)

Your assessment is correct, but the language does not imply the recipient will receive more than 1000 BTC, only that nothing will be sent unless >=1000 BTC is raised.
Feel free to make it clearer.
