1421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: October 03, 2017, 07:13:41 PM
A block every 2 hours is not optimal, I agree. That's due to miners gaming the EDA for more block rewards.

Then again, most BTC users got used to 24 hours to confirm some of their transactions this year, how's that for usability? The worst I experienced was 3 days... oh and I did I mention I paid $3 in fees? Wow.

yep. that sucks too. luckily the creators of bch stopped spamming when they got what they wanted.

in the meantime i hope something is done to make bitcoin itself less vulnerable to this in case they start up again.
1422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: October 03, 2017, 05:30:54 PM

We've been through this before. BCH usability is the same as Bitcoin (other than address confusion issues), but fees are more than 1000x lower.

guess i wasn't there for it then. a block a minute is very usable. a block every two hours is not. the block lottery is fun but not very practical. either it settles down and then development can get to work or it remains a curio that's not going to attract users.
1423  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: wex.nz scam or it's support that suck ? on: October 03, 2017, 05:19:02 PM
your quickest way to a better response is probably to do your tickets in russian.

they claim they're a whole new operation but they're quite clearly not. whitelist and ip problems are classic btc-e issues and their support has always been terrible.
1424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: October 03, 2017, 05:16:05 PM
try to see Bitcoin Cash as the backup for Bitcoin 2.0 (Segwit). if anything goes wrong Bitcoin Cash will take over.

why would i choose another failure in case of failure? it's better to walk away from the whole thing and forget about it. if there has to be a 'replacement' then litecoin looks a lot more reassuring as a solid prospect.
1425  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Fork November: Ledger wallet in "Legacy" or "Segwit" to get free coins? on: October 03, 2017, 09:55:37 AM
wait for ledger themselves to say something. there's no point in listening to anyone else's opinion on this. if there is something that works then they'll implement it.

and as far as i know not one single exchange, wallet provider or any other service has come out with a concrete plan about how they're going to accommodate this. it's not looking like a straightforward hark fork with replay protection at present.
1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: October 03, 2017, 09:36:54 AM
Bitcoin started first with gambling.
BitcoinCash will take it back and with low fees create a use case that makes it the only one to use.
Dr. Wright said for people in the gaming industry, the question of why Bitcoin Cash is superior to legacy
Bitcoin comes down to one thing—lower transaction fees. Says thanks to Dr. Craig
https://calvinayre.com/2017/10/02/bitcoin/craig-wright-bitcoin-cashs-superiority-comes-fees-video/

uh, and what of basic usability, development and a future worth mentioning?

can anyone point to a single worthwhile contribution this abusive freak has made to bitcoin? i cannot.

realistic fees are important but they're only a small part of a wider picture.
1427  Economy / Services / Re: [Open] | 🔥 Coinpayments.net Signature Campaign 🔥 | on: October 02, 2017, 10:55:55 PM
thanks a lot for accepting me.

what's the story with the avatars you've listed? are they a necessity? it's not mentioned in the opening post.
1428  Economy / Services / Re: ★ Coinroll ★ Signature Campaign ★ on: October 02, 2017, 10:54:09 PM
i'm signing off from this campaign. thanks for everything. it's been great to be part of it.

i don't know how to sign a message with btx wallet.
i hope when we need registration, there will be a "tutorial"

as far as i know there's no need to sign anything, but if you did and there wasn't that option in the wallet, i wouldn't know as i haven't used it in a long time, you should also be able to do it in any bitcoin wallet that offers the options after you've imported the btx private key.

it's the same system so you'll end up with the same message. just make sure you don't transact with it.
1430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: October 02, 2017, 07:38:16 PM
OK, so are we concluding that Xapo did NOT sell those coins (unless otc)? They either kept them or went otc?

i think those are the only possibilities. there's no way they could move those amounts on exchanges without mangling the market.

xapo must know everyone who's anyone in the crypto space so maybe there are some weirdos who already did a deal for the anticipated amount of bcash they were gonna free up.

at the same time though as they're doing near market rates for customers there's no way they could discount it without swallowing horrific losses, and as it's something they've no real interest in i doubt they want to lose on it.

interesting question when you think about it.
1431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: October 02, 2017, 07:33:41 PM
Or is it that 250K sell would trigger a massive dump?

of course it would. volumes for all alts are tiny at the moment. 250,000 coins would wipe out every order on every exchange three or four times over. a sale or buy of that magnitude would have to be otc.
1432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Financial collapse means Bitcoin boom? on: October 02, 2017, 05:11:59 PM
if there was a real financial collapse bitcoin would turn to dust too. maybe the people writing here trust it, no one else does. people would run to gold or dollars just like always.

it's a nice idea but bitcoin's time hasn't come yet as a lifeboat. it's still a get rich quick scheme in the minds of most people who put money in and they're also the most panicky people on earth judging by the movements to the slightest scary news.

it would be nice to be proven wrong. i don't think i would be. the handful of people in places like venezuela who do use bitcoin are benefiting from the commodity boom that's fueled it that's lasted for years. they're hanging on the coattails of general market success in first world countries.
1433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which Coins are a great LONG-TERM investment ???? on: October 02, 2017, 04:54:56 PM
i don't think i'd enter any alt with a 5-10 year mind set.

bitcoin has a chance because it has history and trust and crypto as a whole has a requirement for a reference coin. to an extent it's immune from technical superiority.

everything else is fair game. some coins have good ideas. with 5-10 years of development the chances are someone will come up with something that does the same ideas much, much better.
1434  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: coindesk.com/price ---> how accurate is their pricing? on: October 02, 2017, 03:44:11 PM
the information on how they calculate it is here - https://www.coindesk.com/price/bitcoin-price-index/

though it's an old article so it could've changed.

this is a quick tldr -

"Which bitcoin exchanges does the XBP include?

The criteria for inclusion in the XBP are:

USD exchanges must serve an international customer base.

Exchange must provide a bid-offer spread for an immediate sale (offer) and an immediate purchase (bid).

Minimum trade size must be less than 1,500 USD (9,000 CNY) or equivalent.

Daily trading volume must meet minimum acceptable levels as determined by CoinDesk.

Exchange must represent at least 5% of the total 30-day cumulative volume for all of the exchanges included in the XBP.

The stated and/or actual time for a majority of fiat currency and bitcoin transfers (whether deposits or withdrawals) must not exceed two business days."

so it's all live exchanges, and significant exchanges. some price indices include localbitcoins and others. that's relevant but it skews everything else.
1435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gold (BTG) on: October 02, 2017, 03:34:44 PM
i like the idea of a gpu focused coin. i don't like the addition of the bitcoin name despite there being quite a few now.

they're also talking about combining the launch with an ico. if it's going to be a fork how on earth will that happen? i don't understand where the ico part can be shoehorned in.

i haven't checked the website since it was first mentioned but it was barely literate back then. i hope they've sharpened up their game a little.
1436  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can china actually ban mining?!? on: October 02, 2017, 09:39:48 AM
China ban ICO and that news is official, also there were several attempts that they want to ban bitcoin and mining officially but dont think that they can ban mining. Miners dont need to mine bitcoin they can mine ethereum monero or some other coin. So in this case i dont see anything that they can do to ban mining.

all they have to do is call the miners and tell them to stop. it's not like a western country.

the average chinese citizen knows perfectly well that they're completely helpless against their government. if they want to stay in one piece then they'll do what they're told. they probably won't bother to pass any laws because they know the implied threat is more than enough.

in that scenario miners might choose to ignore them and continue. most normal people would not choose to take that risk.
1437  Other / Off-topic / Re: The most STUPID coin ideas you 've heard on: October 02, 2017, 09:12:59 AM
got to be rapecoin. when people said it wasn't the most tasteful title they changed it to rapcoin for 'victims of rap'.
1438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC/ETH Wallet hacked ($550k) stolen on: October 02, 2017, 08:56:41 AM
which wallet were you using?

when i am on unfamiliar wifi, for starters i wouldn't go on it with anything holding crypto, and i'd only use a vpn when using it.

that's a terrible loss. sorry dude.
1439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should I convert my BCH to BTC? on: October 02, 2017, 08:53:28 AM
For now, no. BCH price is too low, just wait and hold it. Remember, BCH ATH is 900+ USD. My prediction is BCH will reach 1,000 USD by the end of this month.

why the hell would it do that? it's proving to be barely used and still being gamed to hell by miners. there's half a million xapo coins to get through and there are still the coinbase coins which would be released any time between now and the end of the year.

none of that is making it look like a great hold.
1440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: October 01, 2017, 07:48:07 PM
Demand for Moneros (and thus the market value) increased as some Darknet markets decided to accept Moneros as a means of payment.

blackbytes are too unwieldy to use. i like the idea but the manual pairing thing and backup needed every time isn't practical. it needs to be smoother to use.
