1501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China will ban all the bitcoin exchange in Hongkong on: September 17, 2017, 10:36:07 PM
Never act on rumours as they will ruin you and you will repent later

tell that to the people who got out of mt gox in time. they only had rumors to go on. the rumors were true.
1502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China will ban all the bitcoin exchange in Hongkong on: September 17, 2017, 10:20:42 PM
bitfinex is domiciled in the british virgin islands these days.

hong kong has a completely separate legal apparatus compared to the rest of china so okcoin.com and the rest will be fine. but as bitfinex has nothing much to do with hong kong any more it doesn't matter.
1503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can anyone explain why it is bad to to buy Bitcoin with Credit Card? on: September 17, 2017, 10:18:28 PM
Interesting, my bank or country hardly supports this chargeback option I think. I use PayPal which has the chargeback option though I have never used it to buy bitcoin.

are you sure? i guess it depends on who issued your card but i'm pretty sure it's an intrinsic feature of all visa and mastercard cards, but of course there are other credit card issuers in other parts of the world.
1504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I need some advice on NEO on: September 17, 2017, 10:06:44 PM
If you truly think china will permanently ban cryptocoins, you're uninformed to say the least. Remember, there used to be a ban on alcohol in the US until they figured out they could make billions from it. China isn't stupid, they're just being cautious right now.

they themselves have said they can't ban it.

they can ban access to exchanges and blockchains with their firewall.

of course crypto will survive there but the markets will be totally crippled. you can't have a pump without a centralised exchange. there will be none in china and no chinese person will be able to access foreign ones without jumping through hoops that are being closed every day.

tor doesn't work there. vpns are being clamped down on.

as neo is on western exchanges it'll still be able to pump. i'd get out when it does and shop elsewhere but that's just my opinion.

china is a country that actually closes its whole stock exchange when it heats up too much. anyone who believes they'll continue to tacitly endorse bitcoin, let alone ico stuff, needs to buy the bridge i'm selling.
1505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can anyone explain why it is bad to to buy Bitcoin with Credit Card? on: September 17, 2017, 10:03:01 PM
Yes  that is a general disadvantage when buying anything with Credit card though. Anyway, while trying to buy Bitcoins, all credit card options are either extremely sparse or overpriced. It's extremely difficult to buy with Credit, why though? Is there a economic reason to this?

bitcoins are 100% irreversible. once they're gone, they're gone. there's no way of getting them back. credit cards are often stolen or can be charged back.

bitcoin merchants who sell to credit card holders either have to be extremely diligent or put up with a significant amount of theft. i presume that's why fees are so high as they're taking a regular hit.

if i was in the bitcoin selling business there's no way in hell i'd ever accept them.
1506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I need some advice on NEO on: September 17, 2017, 09:38:12 PM
can't all the morons predicting a chinese bounce read? china is over for good.

the only chance this coin has is if it gains a significant following outside china. i don't know enough about that but unless it pivots away from the chinese market then it's dead meat.

the fact that it's on bittrex and elsewhere is a good sign but if i owned some now i'd wait for a pump that got close to my buy in and sell and walk away. there are other coins with more certain futures.

there's risks and then there's holding a coin that's had a stupidly huge pump just before its largest market dies.
1507  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: September 17, 2017, 09:32:44 PM
I think you will find there are more people in the world concerned about the "toxic heritage" of US government departments, like the DoJ and the FBI, with there unsubstantiated smear campaigns which you have obviously fallen for.

I for one don't believe the exaggerated claims of stolen Gox funds and money laundering for a minute. The fact that the DoJ press release started with the words "Russian national" instead of some facts, clearly demonstrated the whole exercise was political, probably arranged by the Democrats or Neocons.

anyone who doesn't believe btc-e wasn't the first port of call for coin thieves and hackers is a certifiable moron. after mixing it was still the most sensible place to go.

which also means that many coins on there are the spoils of crime.
1508  Other / Off-topic / Re: iPhone X 📱 on: September 17, 2017, 09:26:36 PM
i hate apple stuff and refuse to own it on principle, but that is one nice looking phone, far more attractive than anything android. maybe it's the little cutouts that do it for me.

$1000 is insane though. there is literally nothing a second hand iphone for a quarter of the price or less can't do and that's my main criteria for a new device. if it can't do something totally new then i ain't buying it unless my old one is dead.
1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: September 17, 2017, 09:23:11 PM
Giving these Whales such huge amounts and letting the interest compound for them was a huge mistake.

they can only sell once. if byteball is to have any future then there'll be enough demand for them to let go of it at the price they want.
1510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: September 17, 2017, 09:18:04 PM
I don't need to show any "proof" and what you've "heard" is totally irrelevant. There is at least one very large and reputable exchange that has no problem whatsoever with fiat deposits and withdrawal and where you can trade USDT/USD.

you're missing the point.

when you sell usdt for usd on kraken all you're doing is passing the risk of it being backed by thin air to some other chump who chooses to buy it off you believing it's actually worth something.

bitfinex has nothing to do with that transaction and they and the usdt seller are offloading the dollar backing on to some other moron. there is still zero evidence that tether actually has any real money at all.

i can't believe it's been allowed to become as widespread as it has with bitfinex's track record.
1511  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you think about immortality? on: September 17, 2017, 12:04:17 AM
i dont think it will be possible to upload your "mind" for at least 5000 years ahead from now.

i give it 75-150 years. technology ain't hanging around. it's gonna be a monster of a task but 75 years ago there weren't computers of any type, now look where we are.
1512  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you think about immortality? on: September 16, 2017, 11:44:40 PM
imortality is impossible..
But in the future it will be possible to connect a neuro-network to a supercomputer. And thus have robotic lims acting as usual body parts. Then the brain can then be stored seperately in a closed enviroment with its own superior blood-curcuit.

This way, you could extend a "lifetime" more than 10x i think

uploading your mind into a digital version guarantees it. these people chasing the end of biological ageing are probably wasting their time. there are too many things to take into account.
1513  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you think about immortality? on: September 16, 2017, 11:35:19 PM
Immortality is state of mind not of body

your state of mind won't be very immortal if your body is dead.

even if the mind and body could be preserved, i don't think most people would be psychologically equipped to have much fun with it. it goes against every piece of our evolution.
1514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: September 16, 2017, 11:31:00 PM
Thanks Smiley ... than one Block takes approximatelly up to 30 min ... if I need 4 confirmations the transaction will take ~ 2h?

Am I right?

it looks a lot faster than that right now.

going on the last four blocks you'd have 4 confirmations in 35 minutes.

the really big gaps between blocks are over for now after they stopped gaming the difficulty adjustment thing.
1515  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Could China Ban Miners. on: September 16, 2017, 11:09:19 PM

Let's say china throw up p2p blocks and start blocking the protocol and bitmain are forced to move there miner operations that is not going to be something that can happen over night I don't even think they would bother if they were being forced out I think they would sell out and sell all there equipment and just continue to produce chips into the market.

i assume bitmain would switch to pure hardware sales in a worst case scenario. there's still mountains of money to be made and all it is is machinery sold to foreigners so i presume the chinese government won't care.
1516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: September 16, 2017, 11:05:59 PM
Does somebody know how much time does one BCH transaction take?

Can I check that somewhere?

Thanks in advance  Smiley

http://blockdozer.com/insight/blocks

this'll tell you how fast blocks are arriving. the exchange you're using will tell you if they want a high number of confirmations.
1517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How many bought ETH just to join an ICO ? on: September 16, 2017, 11:03:45 PM
i would say the main catalyst for bitcoin's rise this year was people buying bitcoin to buy ethereum to buy icos.

if there hadn't have been any icos then bitcoin would be half or less of its current price and ethereum would be 20-30 bucks.
1518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEO - The Ethereum of China (Invest before you regret) on: September 16, 2017, 10:55:53 PM
I am greatly pleased to have bought some NEO these days.
After the China ICOs ban, if NEO has the government's trust and becomes the authoritative platform, it will make it very strong.

the one thing people keep parroting about neo is how hard they've tried to be compliant in china. china has just made it clear they don't give a shit how compliant anything is.

if they're not gonna permit a vanilla coin like bitcoin, there's no way they'll permit anything with extra layers of complexity or the possibilities for mania.

if they head abroad they'll be fine. if they stay china focused there ain't nothing to focus on any more.

and i'm amazed that some people in this thread still seem to think there's gonna be a chinese market. there won't be outside of guys meeting in bars.
1519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to do when price keep dropping ? on: September 16, 2017, 10:53:09 PM
what's the reason for the drop?

if it's just boredom or low sentiment then it's time to think about buying. that's how people get rich.

if it's a technical or scam related disaster then maybe it's best to cut and run.
1520  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Could China Ban Miners. on: September 16, 2017, 10:45:12 PM
Inner Mongolia belongs to china bitmain mines are in Inner Mongolia .

Hoping that whatever occurs works for BTC

ah. just goes to show how bad my geography is.

operations like bitmain must have war chests of tens or hundreds of millions. they must have come up with some type of alternate plan for this scenario that involved migrating their machines to the next cheapest country to operate in.
