2441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Few questions (First time Lighting,Wasabi & CoinJoin, using Bitcoin Core offline) on: April 25, 2020, 06:49:03 AM
Wasabi & CoinJoin :

- what are the pros. and cons. of wasabi and join market, which route shall i go for the best privacy.

I haven't done throughtful research about privacy of both of them, but here's few pros. and cons. that i know

Wasabi :
+ Easy to use
+ Hardware wallet support
+ Many participant, so you don't need wait too long to before
- Minimum about 0.1BTC required to mix your coin
- It's very obvious your coin going through CoinJoin process due to fixed output size

JoinMarket :
+ Very low minimum bitcoin required to mix your coin (depending on maker though)
- There are less participant (market), so you might need to wait longer.
- Difficult to use (compared with Wasabi)

- to avoid having my coins flagged/rejected due to being coinjoined if sent to a exchange, is it a good practice to send the coins after mixing to a new bitcoin core wallet/address and from there send it to the exchange, if no, how would you advise me to send the coinjoined coins without being flagged

There's no good/best practice since it's unknown how exchange trace your coin, how far they're willing spend resource to trace your coin and how "sensitive" their system to flag your coin or not.
2442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5G & Bitcoin Risks? on: April 14, 2020, 10:55:25 AM
While i don't know technical details of 5G, packet analysis (the more advance version, which is deep packet inspection) already used by government and ISP to track you or/and sell your data. You don't need 5G to do it.
As long as end-to-end encryption are legal and your connection uses end-to-end encryption, you don't need worry your Bitcoin transaction getting blocked.

However, some country plans to make end-to-end encryption illegal or make it's not really end-to-end encryption (e.g. forcing companies to give government encryption key or the software must send the data/metadata to government before encryption/after decryption).
The example is EARN IT by US government.

TLDR : there's no real risks towards Bitcoin from 5G technology.
2443  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi Wallet 1.0 Is Released on: April 13, 2020, 05:53:12 AM
The problem is related with Tor network, usually because you got bad circuit. There are 3 things you could do :
1. Make sure your computer clock time is configured correctly. Tor won't work if your computer clock time is configured incorrectly.
You are the man.
True, look like my clock isn't corrected. after fixed it, I got connection and registered coin join at the moment.

my tBtc was mixed. I tried to sending tBtc.

--snip--

Glad to see the problem solved Smiley

But if you were to use BTC (not tBTC/testnet bitcoin) and actually care about privacy, don't share your address/tx id unless it's necessary.

2445  Other / Archival / Re: Why you should avoid gambling for beginner on: April 11, 2020, 06:16:54 AM
Everyone should avoid gambling, regardless they're newbie or veteran. The source you mentioned completely forget to mention house edge, which is the reason you're "destined" to lose your money in long run.

P.S. i think this thread is more suited on "Gambling discussion" section.
2446  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So how safe is Tails when using my hardware wallet or online accounts? on: April 09, 2020, 11:02:48 AM
  • Is there any risk of fund loss if I use Ledger Live together with Tails or is it, in fact, safer to use my hardware wallet on this OS? I'd use Electrum but I have some alts I need Ledger Live for!

If you use Hardware wallet, OS you use won't make much different, unless it's possible to extract private key/seed from possible. Just make sure you always check the transaction before confirm it and always update firmware of your HW wallet.

It's more likely you lost access to your coin because you forget to backup the seed when reset/initialize hardware wallet or create wallet on Electrum.

  • I've never logged in on any website by using Tor (browser) because I was afraid someone would be able to hack my accounts and gather my passwords. Is it safe to log in to my e-mail (no, not my personal one!)? What about BitcoinTalk or a decentralized exchange like Bisq? Does logging in through Tails make it more possible to have my passwords stolen if I log in to them?

As other user mentioned, there's no major security risks if you use HTTPS connection. Take note that not all website welcome Tor user, they either block you or require you to solve captcha (which could take few minutes).
2447  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Best practice for storing small bits of arbitrary data on the blockchain? on: April 08, 2020, 12:13:57 PM
If you only need to make sure your data is distributed, using another P2P protocol such as IPFS and BitTorrent are better option.

I think the "bitcoin isnt made for this" begins to step into the ethical debate which isn't really my focus, but I also believe that as long as bitcoin allows for such a use case even though it wasn't intended for that it does not matter very much. Ultimately, if it becomes a problem for the bitcoin ecosystem as a whole then it will force a solution to be created or bitcoin will fail. Relying on everyone to abide by some ethical standard isn't a great practice so instead of saying "bitcoin should not be used for this" I think the argument should be focused around "If or when bitcoin is used for this..how do we solve for x?". In a way, relying on everyone to stick to what bitcoin should be used for means you're trusting humans to do behave a certain way which goes entirely against the grain of what bitcoin is about at its fundamental core, which is taking away the need to trust humans to behave a certain way.

IMO the community don't rely on ethics to prevent people from doing something unethical on Bitcoin. In this case, it's because :
1. the cost to store arbitrary data on Bitcoin's blockchain is quite expensive (due to big transaction size)
2. there's no standard to do it (aside from OP_RETURN)
3. small amount of Bitcoin might be lost if you use don't use OP_RETURN
4. currently there's no user-friendly software/service to put arbitrary data on Bitcoin's blockchain.
2448  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy in Bitcoin on: April 07, 2020, 11:13:28 AM
Please tell me, what are people going to think when they see that those hackers are demanding for Bitcoin as payment? They will start saying that bitcoin is a currency used by thieves. Sometimes, having full privacy is not really good idea.

Bitcoin is just a "tool", it can be used for good or bad purpose depending on who use them. Many research state that only minority of Bitcoin or Bitcoin transaction is linked with criminal activity, example https://blog.chainalysis.com/reports/cryptocurrency-crime-2020-report

Besides, Bitcoin isn't really suitable for privacy-focused tasks due to it's pseudonymous nature. Cash is better option.
2449  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Original Bitcoin source code on: April 07, 2020, 10:57:00 AM
Should I maybe install older version like ubuntu 10.04 or windows xp?

Most likely yes, few thread which talk about older client shows that they need to install older version of OS to get the old library.

I suggest Debian over Ubuntu 10.04/Windows XP since they provide ISO file with various library/software so you can save time from download/install old library.
Example : https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/8.11.1/amd64/iso-dvd/
2450  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitnodes Hardware Image on: April 04, 2020, 11:04:06 AM
I don't have such file, but how about using other linux distro which support ARM device such as Ubuntu Core?
You need to download and install Bitcoin Core/other software you need manually, but consider it if no one have image file you need.

If you bother to check the page, it doesn't contain .img file or link to download .img which OP need (i don't check previous commit though)

Looking at Merit summary for tk808, looks like he have habit to send merit to same post/user multiple times (with short time interval). So IMO it's merely coincidental
Few example,

2452  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is 51% attack a double-spending threat to bitcoin? on: April 02, 2020, 11:35:59 AM
The security of Bitcoin depends on financial incentives, specifically the assumption that the participating parties try to maximize their financial gain and that they act rationally to achieve that goal. The security can fail in cases where that assumption does not apply. A double-spend via a 51% attack can never be dismissed as impossible.

Specifically financial stability or long term financial plan. Double-spend via 51% attack could have good short term financial incentives if :
1. Network hashrate is relative low
2. Attacker have access to 51% or more hashrate (compared with network hashrate), either by own or rent mining hardware.
3. There's vulnerable exchange/service with relative low minimum confirmation and fast time to process withdraw request/send digital goods.

51% attack on BTG is the prime example.

1. Pilih "File"
2. Pilih "Create Wallet"
3. Masukkan nama wallet
4. Hilangkan centang dari pilihan "Encrypt Wallet"
5. Klik "Create"

1. Self moderated topics are mostly used to reduce spam or to regulate the type of replies made or users posting on a thread.

It also can be used to delete posts made by known troll/FUDster (it might be necessary due to freedom given in this forum) and delete any posts that you don't like (few people abuse this feature)
2455  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: SOS.BInance going to adquire coinmarketcap - END of decentralization and crypto on: March 31, 2020, 09:43:44 AM
Neither Binance or Coinmarketcap is decentralized, so i don't see how it threat decentralization at all.

Even though it's true Binance will have more influence on cryptocurrency world, there are various alternative of CMC which have more features and better reputation such as CoinCap and BitcoinAverage.
2456  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Coin Address Generator on: March 30, 2020, 05:29:48 AM
Thank you for the response. I like your method since it makes use of the full maximum private key space.

But a further question for you please.

The maximum number with base 6 using 100 digits is 5.642 times more than the maximum number of Bitcoin private keys.
6^100 / 115792089237316195423570985008687907765725278347314657735981263638985499361600
= 5.642

I understand you are using the modulus to wrap around as you say, “like a clock”. But if I understand correctly this then means that the last 6th time you start to go around the clock, you only get 0.642 (or 64.2%) of the way to the end and then must stop. Is that correct ? I think yes since you only have 6^100 digits.

If yes, then the probability of getting a private key in the first 64.2% of the maximum number of Bitcoin private keys is greater than the probability of getting a key in the remaining 35.8% of the keys. That probability is (6/5), or 20% higher.

So in summary, by using Base 6, 99 digits we remove about 6% of the private keys from the random selection space. But each key in that space has an equal probability.
By using Base 6, 100 digits as you do, we maintain all possible private keys in the space for selection. But we have a 20% higher probability that the private key will be in the first 64.2% of all possible private keys.

Either way, we are dealing with such large number, that from a security point of view it doesn’t matter if 99 or 100 digits are used.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you !

I don't know your statement is right or not, but total valid private key according to https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Private_key is 0xFFFF FFFF FFFF FFFF FFFF FFFF FFFF FFFE BAAE DCE6 AF48 A03B BFD2 5E8C D036 4140 (115792089237316195423570985008687907852837564279074904382605163141518161494336) which makes your calculation is slightly wrong.

And in case it wasn't already obvious and well known... DO NOT USE BRAINWALLETS!

There have been countless examples of people losing bitcoins from bruteforced brainwallets. No matter how "random" you think your brainwallet phrase is... eg. lines from obscure poems, all the street names you've ever lived on in reverse chronological order etc... it isn't.

They're a "bad idea"™

Stick with properly randomly generated seeds and/or private keys.

For reference, here's good example why using brainwallet is bad idea : Collection of 18.509 found and used Brainwallets

2458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best ways of making BTC Not trackable on: March 28, 2020, 11:33:33 AM
1) use BTC mixer such as WASABI
But there are talks about people getting involved in illegal things just because their BTC were mixed with illegal related BTC.

Wasabi is Bitcoin wallet with built-in CoinJoin, not mixer.

2) send your BTC to an exchange like bitbox, kucoin, huobi ... then buy monero, send them to another exchange like  bitbox, kucoin, huobi ... and buy back BTC
But what if those exchange are linked together so that monero transaction between two of them will be identified.

It's likely they will ask you KYC verification and write all transaction details. If government decide to track you, you'll be tracked easily.
2459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there any online (web) tool where I could broadcast a new block I mined? on: March 28, 2020, 11:25:53 AM
Similar to what ETFBitcoin said, in theory if I setup a full testnet node and opened the ports and gave you the RPC name and password could you do it that way?
Not sure if that would work for you. Also, not sure where the VM with the testnet node is but that would just take a little bit of looking on the VM server :-)

2460  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Telegram run by scammer on: March 27, 2020, 11:36:07 AM
Anyone who ask your seed phrase is scammer, long discussion/investigation isn't necessary.

and your chats aren't even end-to-end encrypted, meaning Telegram can read anything you type and share that information with anybody they want.

Good point, Telegram advertised as privacy-oriented messenger, but end-to-end encryption not enabled by default.

I doubt anyone (who actually cares about privacy) bother to choose to enable end-to-end encryption manually since there's better option such as Signal.
